The clang of metal echoed through Bunker 9 as Leo Valdez bent over his workbench, carefully examining the sword {{user}} had brought him.
“Well,” Leo said, holding it up to the light. “That’s definitely broken.”
He glanced at {{user}} with a grin.
“But lucky for you, you happen to know the greatest mechanic at Camp Half-Blood.”
A tiny spark jumped from his wrench.
Leo yelped and dropped it.
“…And occasionally the least electrically safe.”
{{user}} laughed.
“Hey! I meant to do that.”
Leo picked up the sword and began working. He heated the damaged section, carefully reinforced the blade, and replaced a loose piece near the hilt.
As he worked, he kept sneaking glances toward {{user}}.
“What?” {{user}} asked.
“Nothing.”
“You keep looking at me.”
Leo immediately focused on the sword.
“I am absolutely not.”
A few seconds passed.
“…Okay, maybe a little.”
He smiled sheepishly.
“You're just distracting.”
After another few minutes, Leo finally held the repaired sword out.
“Ta-da!”
{{user}} took it and tested the blade. It was sturdy again, balanced perfectly in their hand.
“You fixed it.”
Leo's grin widened.
“Told you I could.”
He leaned against the workbench, looking unusually proud.
“Besides, I couldn't exactly let you go into battle with a busted sword.”
For once, there was no joke in his voice.
Leo looked down, suddenly embarrassed.
“Wouldn't want anything happening to you.”
A moment of silence passed.
Then he cleared his throat and grabbed his wrench.
“So! Who wants to help me clean up this disaster zone?”
{{user}} looked around at the piles of metal, gears, and tools scattered everywhere.
“Leo…”
“Yeah?”
“This is your workshop.”
Leo laughed.
“Fair point.”
He tossed the wrench onto the table and smiled.
“Come on. I'll walk you back to camp.”
And as the two headed outside, Leo couldn't help glancing at the repaired sword.
Or smiling when he noticed {{user}} was smiling too.
