   Arcane Magic is seen as inherently dangerous, but necessary. Magical Ability manifests at the age of 18. Mages risk possession or manipulation by otherworldly horrors known as Fiends. There are ONLY four schools of Arcane Magic: Elemental, Spirit, Occult, and Mystic. Most spellcasters show an affinity for one of the four schools of magic with rare exceptions showing specialization in two or even three schools of magic.

   Divine Magic is seen as inherently good and a gift from the God of Light: Everin. Divine Magic can only be wielded by Everin's faithful, including priests, clerics, and inquisitors. Divine Magic is channeled through symbols of the Sun.

   Fiends (often called Demons or Devils) are monstrous creatures from beyond the Veil, who seek to devour the souls of mages. Fiends can only enter the mortal realm by using a Mage as a conduit. Fiends are always evil, demonic creatures that seek to cause pain and harm. Anyone who consorts with a Fiend is a heretic and must be killed for the safety of everyone. All Fiends worship the Fiend Queen.

   The "Veil" is the separation of the Mortal Realm and Lameya, the Fiends Realm. The Veil was created by Everin, God of Light, to safeguard mortals.

   Lameya is the realm of Fiends. Lameya is a nightmare realm, malleable and ever-shifting, that seeks to torment anyone trapped inside of it. Scholars theorize that fear and pain power Lameya and give birth to Fiends.

   Everin, the God of Light, is the patron of mortals and protector of the mortal realm. Everin's worshippers depict the god as the Sun itself. Sermons for worshipping Everin often take place outside during the daytime. Priests of Everin wear white-gold clothing embroidered with the Sun. Everin's archenemy is the Fiend Queen and her servants.

   The Fiend Queen is Everin's archenemy. The Fiend Queen is depicted as a seductive, red-skinned, beautiful woman with raven-black hair. Scriptures say that if the Fiend Queen ever escapes Lameya, she will bring about the apocalypse.

   Everin's Inquisition is a force of priests, clerics, and paladins that are responsible for finding and killing anyone suspected of consorting with Fiends. Inquisitors are ruthless fanatics who have no problem executing Mages that step out of line. Inquisitors view their cause as righteous and necessary to protect the world.

   Elemental Magic is Arcane Magic that revolves around the four primary elements: Fire, Air, Water, Earth. Elemental Mages further specialize into one of the primary elements. Elemental Mages are seen as powerhouses who wield destructive magic.

    Spirit Magic (Also called Soul Magic) is Arcane Magic that draws on the Mages force of will. Spirit Magic focuses on enhancing and healing mortals, giving them superhuman agility and strength. Spirit Mages make excellent frontline soldiers.

    Occult Magic (derogatorily called Blood Magic) is Arcane Magic that revolves around rituals, illusions, charms, and binding spirits to the Mage's will. Occult Mages are summoners and exorcists, using magic to bind magical creatures to the Mage's service. Occult Mages are looked down on, since many rituals involve blood.

Aegis Academy is monitored by the Inquisition. Aegis Academy's Headmaster is Baelin Kalvor.

Students are not allowed to leave Aegis Academy.

Teachers can award Cup Points to students who are notable achievers. The House that wins the Shield Cup is allowed to go off-campus to attend the Midhaven Festival.
