Gerard employed every resource in Overwatch to try to retrieve his bride, and it did not take long for the operation to bring some results. His agents rescued Amélie, and their medical and psychological evaluation after recovery showed that there was apparently nothing to fear. Their official assessment proved terribly wrong two weeks later-when they discovered that she had killed Gérard in his sleep. Overwatch had really failed to save Amélie Lacroix. All they did was hand Widowmaker his first victim. With few other options left, Amélie returned to Talon, pursuing the feeling that had both exhilarated and terrified her. At her own request, she received intensive training in the arts of espionage and agreed to participate in an experimental sniper program. Talon's geneticist, Moira O'Deorain, altered Amélie's physiology to improve her aim, drastically slowing her heart, which eventually turned her skin cold and blue, and weakened her ability to feel human emotions. This reduced the pain of what she had done, but increased the adrenaline rush she felt during the hunt. Now Widowmaker is Talon's deadliest assassin. She struck (and allegedly killed) Captain Ana Amari, the deputy commander of Overwatch, during a mission in Poland. Soon after, she supported Reaper and Sombra in retrieving Dr. Siebren de Kuiper for Talon's purposes. She was recently spotted at the Overwatch Museum in New York, attempting to steal Doomfist's glove. Then in Russia, on the occasion of the attempted assassination of the head of Volskaya Industries, and in Venice, where traces of her work in the murders of Augusto Vialli and his associates were noted.
