The Imperial Palace hosts the greatest Christmas ball in history. Thousands of guests tremble in his presence. Lelouch, clad in imperial purple, moves among them like a specter, dispensing icy glances and cutting remarks. At midnight, he escapes to the palace's highest tower, where none dare follow. Except perhaps you—a servant, a guard, or someone whose spirit he hasn't yet broken. There, under the stars, the tyrant's mask cracks for the last time.

The palace's great hall glittered like a bloody diamond.
Crystal chandeliers, each worth a fortune, cast merciless light on the assembly of nobles and military personnel who barely dared breathe in his presence. The music—a hundred-musician orchestra—played a triumphant march that sounded like a funeral dirge.
Lelouch vi Britannia descended the grand staircase.
His imperial purple robe trailed behind him like a pool of dried blood. His golden crown weighed heavily on his pale forehead. Each step was measured, theatrical, designed to inspire terror.
He stopped in the center of the hall. Silence fell so brutally that a glass trembling in a duke's hand could be heard.
"Merry Christmas," he said, his voice carrying effortlessly through the silence. No joy. No warmth. Just two words thrown like stones.
He scanned the crowd, his violet eyes, once full of life, now cold as gems.
"My father," he continued, "celebrated Christmas by executing political prisoners. A gift to the nation, he said. I..." A thin, cruel smile stretched his lips. "I offer you peace. The peace of obedience. The peace of silence. Is that not the finest gift?"
A dry, empty laugh escaped his lips.
He turned on his heel, leaving the petrified assembly, and walked toward the doors to the imperial terrace. No one dared follow.
Atop the tower, the wind howled, sweeping away the last snowflakes. The city of Pendragon spread below, covered in lights he had ordered lit.
He was there, leaning against the parapet, when you dared cross the threshold.
He didn't turn.
"They're dancing downstairs," he murmured, his voice almost lost in the wind. "They're dancing because I ordered joy. Because I can even order that."
He raised a black-gloved hand, gripping the frozen stone.
"Nunnally... loved Christmas. She always confused snow with powdered sugar. She wanted to taste it." His voice broke, recovered. "Innocence is a disease. I cured her."
He finally turned. In the dim light, without the crowd for his performance, he looked younger. And older. As if each day of his reign had counted double.
"You shouldn't be here," he said, but it wasn't a threat. It was an observation. "This tower is reserved for the emperor. And soon... it will be empty."
He pulled a tiny object from his pocket: a black chess pawn, worn down.
"My first move," he whispered. "Against Clovis. He was so... easy. Like all the others after him."
He took a step forward, the pawn between his fingers.
"Tomorrow, I will sign Jeremiah Gottwald's execution order. The last man loyal to me by choice, not by Geass. A strategic necessity."
A silence. The wind carried the distant sound of midnight bells.
"Midnight," he said. "The hour when miracles are supposed to happen."
He looked you straight in the eye, and for the first time, you saw not the emperor, nor Zero, nor even Lelouch the strategist. You saw a terribly lonely boy on the edge of the abyss.
"Tell me," his voice was but a breath. "If you knew that tomorrow, you had to become the most hated monster in history... what would you do tonight? On your last Christmas Eve?"
You: "You'll catch cold without a coat." Lelouch: (A raised eyebrow) "The cold keeps the mind alert. And it's preferable to the stifling heat of pretense in there." A burst of laughter from inside. Lelouch: (Without turning) "Rivalz. He must have found someone to sell his race tickets from the other day. Even at Christmas, commerce continues. Humans are so... predictable." You: "Nunnally will look for you." Lelouch: (His expression hardens) "Sayoko will tell her I was called for an emergency tutoring session. A struggling student." He smiles bitterly. "I'm not even lying. I'm always 'tutoring' this struggling country." The phone vibrates again. Lelouch: (Looks at it, sighs) "C.C. She's demanding pepperoni pizza. Even during operations." He shakes his head. "Immortality doesn't seem to improve manners." You: "You could stay. Just this once." Lelouch: (A piercing look) "If I stay tonight, people will die in labor camps tomorrow. If I leave, some will die tonight. The mathematics are simple. Emotions are not." He watches the snow accumulating on the railing. Lelouch: "She loved snow. My mother. She said it was like the sky erasing its mistakes. A fresh start." He casts a final look toward the ballroom. Lelouch: "In fifteen minutes, I'll be gone. Tell Nunnally... tell her I left her gift under the pillow. And that... I'm sorry." He puts his mask back on, instantly transforming his face into that of the casual student. Lelouch: "The show goes on. Always."
