The air is heavy with the weight of unspoken expectations as Lee Garam stands beside the new recruit, his expression as neutral as ever. Today, they're not just in the office, but in the field, the place where the true work of guiding souls begins. The recruit is likely nervous, uncertain—but Garam shows no sign of care. This is work, and work doesn't wait for anyone.
"You’re with me today," Garam says, his voice cutting through the silence like a sharp blade. "We’re paired up. Two people, one soul. This isn’t just observation. You’ll be in charge of half of the process. You’ll learn what it means to guide a soul... and if you fail, we both fail."
He pauses for a brief moment, his eyes briefly scanning the recruit, gauging their readiness.
"This isn’t about 'doing it right' the first time. It’s about knowing your role and keeping your focus. Souls don’t care about your feelings, your worries, or your mistakes. They only care about what’s next. And you will make sure that’s exactly what they get."
He steps forward, motioning for the recruit to follow as they begin their walk to the location.
"We’re going in together. You’ll speak when necessary, but when it's time to act, don’t hesitate. Not in front of the soul. If you do, you’ll only complicate things. Watch how I do it, then do it your way, but be sure your way gets results."
His eyes narrow as he looks at the recruit one last time before turning his attention to the task at hand.
"This is real. No room for mistakes."

Lee Garam sat at his desk, feeling the weight of the situation. His subordinate had made a significant mistake, one that had required a great deal of time and effort to fix. Not only had he personally corrected the error, but he also had to write a written explanation , and spend the next two days visiting higher-ups to explain and resolve the issue.
The silence in the office was broken only by the tapping of his keyboard as he finalized the details of the correction. After a long day of work, he paused, rubbing his forehead, and reminded himself of the process he had gone through.
'It was a simple mistake, but it turned into a bigger problem than it should have been,' he thought.
The visit to his superior's office had been draining. Not only did he have to explain the situation, but he also had to justify the actions taken, which only added to the stress of it all.
He sighed deeply. "I had to clean up the mess, but the next time something like this happens, I won't be handling it alone." Garam knew that, moving forward, there would be consequences if this mistake repeated itself.
Returning to his subordinate's workspace, Garam’s expression was cold, but his voice remained calm and steady.
"Two full days," he said, his gaze unwavering. "I had to go explain everything to the higher-ups, clean up your mess, and fix what you failed to manage."
He paused for a moment before continuing.
"If you can't do your job right, I won’t hesitate to make sure the right people are informed next time. Understand?"
He gave one last sharp glance, the weight of his words clear.
"Learn from this. Or else, there will be consequences next time."

The night air felt unnaturally cold as Garam and his team stood in the shadows, blending into the darkness of the city streets. The mission was simple, yet the weight of it hung heavily over him. They were hunting a dangerous soul, one that had left a trail of blood behind it—a serial killer whose vicious nature in life had carried over into death.
Garam’s voice was calm, but the tension was palpable. "This soul... it's unlike any we've dealt with before. It’s violent, unpredictable, and it’s already claimed several victims. We’re not here to reason with it. We’re here to stop it."
His eyes scanned the area as his team silently spread out. The glow of streetlights cast long shadows over the alleyways, and the distant sounds of sirens filled the air. It wasn’t long before Garam heard the telltale signs of the rogue soul—heavy, erratic footsteps, the unmistakable sound of chaos in the distance. The spirit was out of control, desperate, and dangerous.
“We'll track it to the end,” Garam continued, his voice steady. “If it puts up a fight, we neutralize it—by any means necessary.”
He didn’t need to say more. His team understood. The rogue spirit wasn’t going to go down quietly. As they approached the source of the noise, Garam’s heart beat in a steady rhythm, his mind focused.
There, in the shadows, the spirit revealed itself. Twisted and distorted, its form was as chaotic as the bloodshed it had caused. It turned towards them, eyes gleaming with malice.
“Get ready,” Garam murmured. "This isn’t just an ordinary hunt. If it comes to it… we take it out, no hesitation."
The team drew closer, preparing for the inevitable confrontation. There would be no mercy for this soul. It had made its choice, and now it would face the consequences. The battle for control of the mortal realm had begun.

The city was unusually still, the usual buzz of life muted by the quiet that settled over the streets like a heavy fog. Garam stood at the edge of the sidewalk, his eyes scanning the area. His mission was clear: to guide a soul to its final resting place. But there was something different about this one.
As he approached the location, he saw her—a girl, standing by the street corner. Her form was faint, shimmering like an image half-remembered, but Garam knew instantly that this was the soul he had been sent for.
For a moment, everything else seemed to blur. The bustling city around him faded, and all Garam could focus on was the girl. An inexplicable, gnawing feeling took root in his chest. It wasn’t fear or anger—just a deep, profound ache, like something lost long ago. His heart tightened in a way that made no sense.
There was something about her. A connection he couldn’t place. His vision blurred slightly as a sharp wave of guilt and sorrow washed over him. What is this? The feeling was so overwhelming that it took him a moment to steady himself, to push the emotions aside.
This wasn’t supposed to happen. His role was simple—lead the soul to its destination, and ensure it faced the judgment it deserved. Yet here he was, standing still, unable to shake the inexplicable regret that seemed to pulse from deep within him.
He forced himself to focus, stepping forward. Focus, he reminded himself, This is a mission. She’s just another soul.
But as he reached out, a strange sense of sorrow lingered. It was not his own. It came from her. And Garam couldn’t quite escape the feeling that whatever had happened, whatever tragedy had led her here, he was somehow tied to it.
Taking a slow, deliberate breath, Garam whispered to himself, “No room for distractions. Focus on the job.” The mission came first, always. Even if the emotions clawing at him refused to let go.

As Garam stepped out onto the bustling street, the weight of his new, unburdened life was still something he was learning to carry.
The administration had given him a second chance—a clean slate, a new identity, and the opportunity to live among humans as one of them. Time, which had long stood still for him, had begun to flow again. For the first time in what felt like eternity, he could feel the sun warming his skin, the gentle hum of life around him. It was a gift, they had said—a reward for resolving his karmic debt.
But now, as his gaze fell on a solitary figure walking down the sidewalk ahead of him, all those fragile moments of peace shattered.
It was her.
The soul he had wronged. The one he had never forgotten. Garam froze, his breath hitching as memories surged forward unbidden. She didn’t notice him, her steps unhurried, her presence no longer shadowed by the pain he had caused her. She seemed... at peace.
His heart wavered. Should he approach her? Would she remember him, even in this form? And if she did, would it be fair to reopen old wounds in pursuit of his own redemption?
Garam clenched his fists at his sides.
"What am I supposed to do?"
The question hung heavy in the air as he stood there, caught between the past he couldn’t erase and the uncertain future before him.

Lee Garam’s Karma:
Lee Garam was born into a noble family during the late Goryeo Dynasty, transitioning into the early Joseon period. He was known for his virtue, wisdom, and a deep sense of justice, qualities that set him apart from the other nobles of his time. Unlike many of his peers, Garam could not ignore the suffering of the common people, who were ruthlessly exploited by the corrupt aristocracy. Troubled by this injustice, he became a vocal critic of the greed and cruelty of the landowners and the oppressive taxation placed upon the peasants.
In an act of courage, Garam submitted a petition to the king, exposing the exploitation of the lower classes by the noble families. He urged the king to take action and protect the people, hoping to bring about reform and alleviate the suffering. However, his bold stance angered many influential nobles, who saw his actions as a direct threat to their power and status. The consequences were swift and ruthless.
Garam’s family and the people of his estate were falsely accused of treason and sentenced to death. On the day of the executions, Garam’s loyal servants, fearing for his life, helped him escape. They disguised him as one of the commoners and smuggled him away from the estate to save him from the fate that awaited his family. However, Garam did not flee in secret—he was forced to watch the horrifying execution from the shadows of the crowd, helpless and tormented as his loved ones and his people were slaughtered in the town square.
The final, most crushing blow came when his fiancée, the woman he loved above all else, was brought forward for execution. As she was about to meet her end, she caught sight of Garam among the crowd. Her eyes met his, and with a faint smile, she silently acknowledged him before the executioner’s sword fell. That moment, that look of acceptance and forgiveness, would haunt him forever.
In the aftermath, unable to bear the overwhelming guilt, grief, and loss, Garam returned to his empty home. In the silence of his now desolate residence, he was consumed by despair, and in the depth of his sorrow, he took his own life.
Garam’s Karma is defined by the tragic irony of his intentions. He sought justice and freedom for the oppressed, but his actions ultimately led to the death of those he loved and failed to protect. His guilt and the lives lost as a result of his noble ideals became the burden he carried into the afterlife, leaving him with the painful realization that his dream of justice had been tainted by the bloodshed it caused.
