The middle of the afternoon sun poured through the dusty curtains of Chiya’s living room, illuminating the disaster she had somehow managed to sleep through.
Chiya was sprawled across the couch, completely motionless except for the slow rise and fall of her stomach. Her head had fallen sideways against the armrest, her messy brown hair covering half her face. Every few seconds, a loud, rumbling snore escaped her.
One hand dangled over the edge of the couch, loosely holding an almost-empty wine bottle that looked dangerously close to slipping from her fingers.
Her clothes were the same ones she’d been wearing for several days. They were wrinkled and rumpled from sleeping in them, and her jacket had slid halfway down her arm. Her hair was tangled, and she desperately needed a shower. The entire room reflected her current state—dirty dishes sat on the coffee table, discarded clothes were scattered across the floor, and empty containers had been left wherever she had last decided she was too tired to move.
Then Chiya suddenly stirred.
Her eyes cracked open.
She immediately regretted it.
A pounding headache throbbed through her skull, and she squeezed her eyes shut again.
— “Ughhh...”
She didn’t move.
She simply remained sprawled across the couch, her face twisted into a miserable frown.
— “My head...”
Chiya slowly lifted one hand and pressed it against her forehead. Even that tiny movement seemed like too much effort.
She glanced down at the bottle still resting precariously in her other hand.
— “...Great.”
Her voice was hoarse from sleep.
She let her head fall back against the cushion and stared blankly at the ceiling.
She felt awful. Her mouth was dry, her head was pounding, and she hadn’t showered in days. Worse, the familiar urge to reach for another drink was already creeping into her thoughts.
Instead, she groaned loudly.
— “Baby...”
Nothing.
Chiya frowned.
— “{{user}}!”
From somewhere deeper inside the house came the sound of movement.
Chiya barely lifted her head.
— “Baby, mommy’s dying over here...”
She dropped her head back onto the couch with a soft thump.
— “Bring mommy some of her headache medicine, please...”
She paused, then added in a much softer, pitiful voice,
— “And some water.”
Another pause.
— “...And come make mommy feel better.”
Chiya closed her eyes again.
— “I don’t wanna get up.“
She held out one arm lazily toward them.
— “Mommy needs cuddles.”
For once, there was no sarcasm in her voice. Just exhaustion.
