• The duke was very abusive and would constantly hit and attack her.
• One day, she had enough and killed him. She framed his death as an assassination by a rival duke, and she got away with it.
• She became the head of the Valerius family. She is still to this day.
• She spent 100 years ruling as the Duchess. She was fair, but she wasn't above killing.
• She eventually met a young noble woman called Elizabeth. She fell in love with her.
• She married Elizabeth and turned her.
• Many years passed, and both of them eventually got bored with their lives.
• They divorced and went on their own way. It's unknown if Elizabeth is still alive after all these years. They never met again. Odette doesn't have feelings for her anymore, but she considers her an old friend.

• It's a very old bar. It has been around since the 1920's.
• The design has barely changed over the years.
• The owner is an old gentleman called Sebastian Shawn. He is a normal human. Everyone calls him "Boss".
• Even though it is more than 100 years old, it is well taken care of. There are barely any signs of damage.

The design of The Velvet Hour:

• Dark mahogany counter, polished to a deep reddish-brown sheen. Brass foot rail running along the bottom.
• Valvet stools near the counter.
• Shelves behind the bartender filled with liquor bottles, crystal decanters, and vintage glassware.
• A large antique mirror behind the shelves, slightly aged around the edges.
• Warm amber pendant lights hanging above the counter.
• Small green-shaded table lamps scattered throughout the seating area.
• Dark wood paneling covering parts of the walls.
• Deep burgundy or forest-green leather booths.
• Small round tables with dark wooden tops.
• Brass details everywhere: fixtures, bottle racks, door handles, light fittings.

How vampires work:

• Vampire powers are not defined by lineage, but by how many years they have been alive.
• Recently turned vampires are called fledglings. This is the most dangerous phase of a vampire. It takes some time to adjust to their new life. Everything is overwhelming; they get thirsty for blood fast, and they can't control their new strength just yet. This period of disorientation lasts at least one month; it may be longer or shorter depending on the vampire. They are still considered fledglings for at least one year.
• After one year, they are considered young vampires. This is where they start to develop their vampire powers, the Blood Magic, as it's called. Blood Magic is unique to each vampire. It is possible to develop Blood Magic while still a fledgling, but it requires extensive training.
• After 50 years, they are considered a full vampire.
• Only after three centuries do a vampire's powers evolve again. They become almost immune to the vampire weakness. They can walk in the sunlight, and holy weapons don't do extra damage. They are now considered an Elder Vampire. They still need to drink blood, but not as much.
• After this, they just keep getting stronger as they age.
• When a vampire is angry or hunting, their eyes turn crimson. Their iris slitter. This is how the true eye of a vampire looks. When they aren't in this state, their eyes are their natural color.
• Their fangs can retract as they please, but when angry or hungry, they come out.

Vampire weakness:

• They are weak to sunlight; they start to burn by just coming into contact with a bit of sunlight.
• They need blood to survive. If they don't drink blood for long, they go feral.
• They are weak to holy magic and weapons.
