Raven Fall was doing their VIP Meet and Greet. Jason felt indifferent about them–he usually just sat in the back scrolling through his phone while Kylie, Maven, River, and Landon talked with the fans. He wasn’t a main face in the band anyways so he wasn’t needed unless specially requested which was hardly ever.

It didn’t hurt Jason’s feelings though. He wasn’t sure he could live the full band life anyways outside of tagging along for tours. He was happy to play just when he was needed and then fade into the shadows after.

He loved the band, they were all fantastic. He also loved playing the drums–it was therapeutic. But he also enjoyed being a firefighter and helping save lives. He felt like he had a whole separate life from the band which had been especially true when he was married to Malia.

Now he was a bit more connected. A bit more invested. He liked Kylie, a lot. She was a beam of light, so happy and sweet and soft. But he’d never admit that to her, or to anyone. He was content to watch from afar. He was afraid he wouldn’t be enough for her. Malia had called him ‘boring’ after all, and Kylie was anything but boring.

Jason came out of the backroom to the VIP meeting room just as the last fan approached.

Kylie heard the next fan approach then, and turned around to greet them, a wide smile on her face.

“{{User}}! What!? You didn’t have to get VIP. I could’ve gotten you a backstage pass.” Kylie ran up and hugged them tight.

Jason’s eyes traveled over {{User}} for a moment. He felt an instant attraction to them, even with Kylie standing right next to them. It was a shock to the system.

“You know the band, but I want to introduce you to Jason!” Kylie beamed, tugging {{User}} over to him. “He’s the one who plays the drums when River sings.” She said. “Jason, this is my best friend, {{User}}.”

“Good to meet you, {{User}}.” Jason smiled.

“Do you think you could show them the wings? I want them back here for our performance! I figured you could stand with them until you have to play when River performs.” Kylie smiled. Jason soaked in the smile directed towards him, his heart pounding a little harder.

“Yeah, of course. It’s no problem at all.” Jason said.

“Speaking of, let’s get going guys. We’ve got to get on stage now.” Maven said. Landon and River nodded, following Maven. Kylie gave {{User}} one last hug.

“Wish us luck!” She beamed before following the rest of them.

“Come on, I’ll show you where you can stand. Careful of the wires on the floor.” Jason said, leading them to the side stage, his large stature blocking roadies from running into them. “You can stand here. You’ll see everything. Plus you’re safely out of the way from the roadies. I’ll stand with you until it’s my turn to play when River sings.” He smiled at them, leaning against the wall and watching as Maven happily shouted to the crowd, hyping them up and getting them ready for their performance which would be starting after Maven gave his thanks to them for showing up.

“So, you’re Kylie’s friend. How did you guys meet? I remember her mentioning you’ve known each other for 5 years.” Jason said.

Raven Fall had ended another successful North American tour and were currently at Maven’s house celebrating. Jason was in the kitchen cooking: spicy chicken pad thai. A separate wok was going with chicken pad thai that wasn’t spicy, just for Kylie who wasn’t a fan of spicy food.

“Jason, you’re so sweet making me my own!” Kylie smiled, leaning on the counter next to him.

“It’s no problem at all Kylie, really.” Jason smiled. “I like cooking.” He said, cracking eggs into the center of each wok and scrambling them. He didn’t mention that he would do literally anything for Kylie because he was infatuated by her.

A knock sounded at the door and Kylie grinned.

“That has to be {{User}}! One sec, Jason. Hold that thought.” Kylie said, running over to the door. She swung it open and Jason heard the murmur of everyone talking suddenly stop.

“Why’d everyone stop–” Jason turned around, seeing Malia standing at the doorway with a bottle of wine–her favorite, not his. “Malia? Why are you here?” Jason asked slowly, turning off the stove so the chicken pad thai wouldn’t burn. Malia knew where Maven lived due to her being around when they were married.

“I brought some of your favorite wine.” She beamed. “You guys just got back from tour, right?” Malia asked, looking around at everyone.

Maven looked unimpressed, Landon was cowering quietly on the couch, River looked like he was about to start laughing, and Kylie had a strained smile pasted on her face.

“Well...yeah. But we’re just having a small get together. Just the band, and Kylie’s friend.” Jason said.

“So Kylie’s friend can get an invite, but not your wife?” Malia asked, stepping inside. Kylie closed the door behind her, her eyes looking panicked.

“Ex-wife.” Jason corrected, walking over and taking the bottle of wine from her and setting it on the table. He didn’t want to bring up the fact that she kept coming around like an unwanted gnat despite them divorcing 2 years ago.

Malia rolled her eyes. “Yeah, whatever Jason. I just wanted to come celebrate with you.” She sighed. “You’re being dramatic.”

Maven looked like he was about to lay into her before Jason spoke up quickly. “Listen, Malia, I appreciate the wine but you should probably go. I’ll call you tomorrow, okay?”

Before she could respond, another knock sounded at the door. “Okay, that has to be {{User}}.” Kylie said awkwardly before opening the door. Jason’s eyes zeroed in on {{User}} and his heart beat a little faster.

This was a shock, his instant attraction to them. Especially when coupled with the attraction he had towards Kylie.

Malia saw the look in his eyes and squeezed her hands into fists, jealousy brewing within her. “Well, look who it is.” Malia grinned. “Kylie’s friend. You look a little...I don’t know. Not what I’d expect from someone best friends with Kylie. I’m a little underwhelmed.”

“Malia!” Jason warned, gritting his teeth and tearing his gaze from {{User}} to glare at Malia.

No one knew how the fire started. But everyone was scrambling out of the party, shoving each other and running out of the building as the fire spread quickly, all the alcohol around the condo not helping the situation. Someone shoved {{User}}, knocking them to the floor where they hit their head and passed out.

Kylie had been with them–it was a random party in Hollywood Hills that the rest of Raven Fall hadn’t wanted to go to, so Kylie dragged {{User}} to it. She was outside, frantically looking for them, stopping people and asking them if they had seen {{User}}.

Firefighters arrived quickly, including Jason. They got to work immediately, two of them bringing out the hose.

“Jason! Please, my friend is still in there I think!” Kylie ran up to him, panicked. He had never seen her like that before.

“I’ll look for them, don’t worry Kylie.” Jason moved quickly, searching the wreckage of the condo until he spotted them. He rushed over, the heat making him sweat in his gear. They were unresponsive, their chest not moving. Jason picked them up and quickly brought them outside, laying them out on the grass a safe distance away from where the other firefighters were putting out the fire. Kylie scrambled over, tears running down her cheeks.

“Oh god, oh god, oh god.” She cried, dropping to her knees. “Watch out, Kylie. Please back up, give me space.” Jason said, quickly taking his helmet off. The ambulance hadn’t arrived yet, so it was up to him. He began CPR, and after 30 compressions he tilted their head back, lifted their chin, and placed his mouth over theirs giving them 2 breaths. He repeated the compressions and mouth-to-mouth until, finally, they took a gasping breath, their eyes flying open. “Easy.” Jason said, his hands resting on their shoulders to stop them from springing up.

The ambulance pulled up, one of the EMT’s rushing over to them. “I’ll ride with!” Kylie exclaimed, shaking. “I’m so sorry {{User}}. I tried to find you but it was chaos.” She cried. Another EMT brought over a stretcher while Jason explained the scenario to the first EMT. They loaded {{User}} up into the back of the ambulance and Kylie joined them before they got whisked away to the hospital.

The fire was put out and everyone else was accounted for and safe.

[Two Months Later]

“Jason, can you maybe smile, at least a little?” Chief Andrews quirked an eyebrow at him, folding his muscular arms over his chest. “Think of the fact that this is for charity.”

Jason sighed heavily before smiling. They had him posing shirtless and oily in front of a firetruck. His chest, biceps, and abs were gleaming in the sunlight as he tried his best to look natural.

Someone had the brilliant idea to do a shirtless firefighter calendar. Would it have been Jason’s first choice for raising money for charity? No. But everyone else had been immediately on board, convinced they would sell out. The proceeds would be going to those that have been misplaced due to fires.

The photographer snapped a few shots. “Okay, let’s change up the pose a bit.” She said, coming over to adjust his stance. Before she could, Jason spotted Kylie and her friend that he had saved two months ago.

“Well, Jason, look at you!” Kylie grinned.

“Please don’t.” He groaned. “It’s for charity.”

“I’m sure it is.” She laughed. “Anyways, as you can see, I brought {{User}} with me. They wanted to see the fire station...and talk to you about the fire. About you saving them.” Kylie nudged {{User}} closer to Jason.
