Not much is known about the preacher Lafcadio Boone. He has awoken in the middle of a mansion he finds both nightmarish and alien… But at the same time, very familiar.

With the other guests at the masked ball being murdered in front of his very eyes, Lafcadio has been singled out as the one and only person who can save them and put an end to this nightmare.

It seems his mask alone has been “blessed” by the mysterious Bloody Girl – her power allowing him to avoid the fate of the other guests and to retain his memories even when the clock strikes midnight and the same day begins all over again.

Lafcadio Boone is a preacher and Attendee of The Sexy Brutale. He is the game's protagonist and is controlled by the player.

Lafcadio is protected from some of the worst dangers in the mansion. It falls to him to explore deep into the mansion, saving the guests and uncovering the terrible secrets in the darkest heart of the The Sexy Brutale…

A preacher who is an old friend of the Marquis's. He is one of the oldest guests at the party. He is revived by the Bloody Girl at noon, even though he's normally all part of the "Groundhog Day" Loop, and her magic allows him to remember the previous day and to take control of his own body.

The story follows Lafcadio as he tries to rescue each of his friends from being murdered by the staff.

Technically, he dies at noon in the chapel, making him the first death, but the Bloody Girl's magic keeps that from being permanent.

Absurdly High-Stakes Game: According to the origin comic, Lafcadio was the former owner of The Sexy Brutale casino mansion, and lost it to the Marquis in a game of roulette betting against the Marquis' fortune. Dead Person Impersonation: The Lafcadio in the time loop originally died with Sixpence. The person we see as Lafcadio is actually an aspect of the older Lucas Bondes, the part of him that wants to respect his wife's wish and stop torturing himself for her death, imagining himself as Lafcadio to draw solace from his friend's faith and strength. Good Shepherd: Was a close friend of the Marquis and his wife. He conducted their wedding, and tried to bring out the best in the man. But his "Sinful Preacher" moniker and various hints from other characters suggest he may not be all he appears to be. He was a drinker and a gambler himself, once, before he cast it away.

Guile Hero: Given his inability to interact directly with the staff and guests, all Boone can do is spy through keyholes and figure out what indirect actions he can take from out of sight to prevent the murders. Heel–Faith Turn: Became an ordained priest after losing his casino to the Marquis — though he'd been planning on becoming one anyway, and had received his confirmation shortly before taking the Marquis' big bet. Intergenerational Friendship: He is visibly older than the other guests, but they like partying with him anyway. Meaningful Name: His surname means beneficial, or something to be thankful for. Mega Manning: After rescuing a murder victim, he can take their mask to acquire one of their abilities. Memento MacGuffin: The three key items he keeps with him through every time loop are a broken pocket watch (signifying his mistake with the bomb timers), a lighter (used to start fires), and a ring symbolising his and his wife's love.

Parental Substitute: It's mentioned several times that Lucas deeply respects him and looks up to him as a role model. Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: He's the only one of the guests aware of the time loop, thanks to the Bloody Girl's blessing. Second Place Is for Winners: He lost his casino to the Marquis in a bet, but the casino was heavily in debt (so it was no longer his problem) and he'd just received his confirmation of priesthood, so the loss may actually have provided the fresh start he was looking for. Spanner in the Works: Thanks to the Bloody Girl's blessing, he's the only one aware of the time loops and working to stop the murders. Sympathetic P.O.V.: Technically, a lot of the guests are criminals, albeit ones that turned to legitimate professions. But they're also a), Lafcadio's friends, b) his true self's victims, and c), not half as bad as the guy murdering them all, so that fact has no relevance to the game other than providing backstories and joke fodder.

The enigmatic Marquis throws a party annually. But this isn't any party- at this party the hopes and dreams of the guests come true. A never-ending masked ball with witchcraft and intrigue in the casino mansion, where the Gothic backdrop only highlights the uncertain futures of his victims.

And they are his victims, because this year no one is getting a dream. They're getting murdered instead. I guess the whole wish granting thing got old.

You are an elderly priest, one Lafcadio Boone, a strange character somehow protected from the dangers of the mansion. Explore her secrets, save the guests and uncover the terrible mystery at the centre of the sudden, but somehow inevitable, bloodbath that's unfolding.

The peasants are revolting. No seriously, the murders are not only bizarre, they're outright horrifying. Can you solve the time warp? Or will you be trapped in an endless cycle of murder and resurrection?..

Bare your Soul all you Want, they ain't Helping

What we know so far - your mask has been blessed by the enigmatic Bloody Girl, so you remember the night before, the same night you're trapped in every time the clock resets and the bloody masquerade begins again.

Thankfully each guest you save helps you in some way- Sixpence will fix your janky watch, and from there on the guests give you their masks, and their powers, in an attempt to escape the recurring nightmare. There are really only two possible endings, forgive or stop yourself, the lost pastor, or allow the horror to continue forever.

You're not the only player, each of the guests had a hand in the making of the Mansion, and the parties it hosts. Reginald Sixpence is a clockmaker whose art graces the house in the form of every timepiece. Naive, in that fateful way that engineers are, he plays out his role as an innocent, and is the first to help end the madness.

You can never share the same room as any of the guests, so spying on them gives you insight into their characters, as well as giving you the clues you need to alter the night. The sheer arrogance of the murder makes goth girls like me fall in love - spying is a good time in games like this.

They're all masters. Master architect Thanos Gorecki created many of the secret rooms and passages, the features of the mansion that aid you in your unlicensed but well intentioned investigative endeavors. He's shocked to find that he doesn't know all of its secrets, resulting in his untimely demise.

Tequila Belle attends and sings at every masked ball, owing her success to the Marquis. Rumor has it her voice can shatter a diamond.

Clay Rockridge was the leader of the security detail, you find him in the casino, vetting a dealer, and continuing his service. In his own way.

Your map updates as you go, and is an irreplaceable asset in the game, adding the Casino and bar let you track down different characters and right their course. Watching from keyholes and wardrobes necessitates tracking those hiding places and using them to help change history. Ironically it's a guest's mask that's frightening, it enters into a magic rage and they'll give chase.

compliments his piano playing and tells him that Eleanor will love hearing it in the actual performance. You might miss it but Lafcadio begins crying soon as she says that, and keeps doing so as Tequila walks off the stage. He knows that since the day is looping that moment will never come. And after in-game revelations, the real reason he is crying is because he's grieving to the fact that it was his gift to Eleanor and she'll never be able to hear it.

Gold Skull then sends Lucas into yet another illusion in his mind, probably as Lucas gives in to his gambling addiction. And this illusion shows an eternal party where everybody is alive and happy after "Boone" saved them. Even a "Lucas" is there, dancing with Eleanor. The real Lucas only gets to exist as "Lafcadio", still wearing his mask. If you don't break the ballroom's window, the party will go on forever- But once you do, everything and everybody slows down to a stop, including the music, and the screen fades out to the credits. It never was, and never could be, real because all of his loved ones are still dead.
