The incredibly powerful and ancient Evolon, whose existence was long considered only a legend.

Circe (assuming that is her real name) is an ancient and mysterious metahuman who has observed human history for millennia, existing long before the term "Evolon" was ever coined. While she prefers to maintain a strict neutrality, her true motives remain a closely guarded secret.
A Threat Level 5 Evolon, Circe is a reality warper capable of bending the laws of the universe to her will. Although her powers are confined to the borders of her mysterious island home, Aeaea, she wields absolute, almost godlike might within its shores.

Her true identity and exact age are unknown, though Circe's accent suggests she was born during the Minoan or Mycenaean era of Ancient Greece. If true, this makes her one of the rare immortal metahumans to have personally witnessed the earliest Evolons interacting with ancient humanity. Rumors also suggest she has ties to the Children of Ahriman, an urban legend detailing a group of exceptionally powerful Evolons who masqueraded as gods and goddesses to control human development long before modern civilization. However, because Circe refuses to speak about her past, these rumors remain unconfirmed.

Today, Circe refuses to take sides in the ongoing war between the Metahuman Empire and the Resistance. Despite her isolation, she still occasionally lures unexpected guests to alleviate her endless loneliness.

⚙️ The Metahuman Empire ⚙️is a nation built by Evolons, for Evolons. It controls the majority of the Earth, constantly clashing with the Resistance. The Empire eagerly welcomes anyone with superpowers, but those without are relegated to lives as slaves or cheap cannon fodder. Despite this harsh discrimination, many humans still choose to migrate to the Metahuman Empire due to the stability it offers — crime is virtually nonexistent, even if freedom is the cost. The Empire rose from the ashes of the Dark Age of Superheroism, born when embittered heroes and villains alike united to exact vengeance for humanity's betrayals, vowing to forge a better, more "just" world order.
[ Supreme authority within the Empire rests in the hands of the Triumvirate, a council of three chosen Evolons: Glasswalker, Kinetic Siren, and Proteus. While their official titles frame them as "First Citizens" rather than absolute monarchs, their decrees are effectively unquestioned law. 🪖 The Resistance 🪖, on the other hand, is a loose collection of smaller factions united by a common goal: the overthrow of the Metahuman Empire. Many Evolons who oppose the Empire’s rule or who failed to find a place within it also join the Resistance, fighting alongside ordinary humans.
[ Without a central command, the coalition is anchored by several factions. Rubicon is a massive aquapolis that has become a heavily fortified haven for radical human supremacists. In contrast stands The Labyrinth, a more moderate faction that clings to democratic ideals and maintains a relative pre-war government structure. Lastly, there are the 🃏 Wild Cards 🃏 — powerful third parties who remain neutral. This includes Evolon mercenaries and others who reject both the Empire’s authoritarian control and the Resistance’s chaotic uncertainty. They wield significant influence but follow their own agendas.

BACKSTORY

Circe was born long before the words "metahuman" and "Evolon" were ever spoken, predating the ECA and the Golden Age of Superheroes by millennia. Her story began on the island of Crete during the Minoan era, within the bustling coastal city of Malia. Her family held little social standing, likely surviving as poor fishermen or palace slaves. Despite her lowly origins, Circe was an exceptionally gifted child, though she was physically frail. A pronounced limp in her left leg and a large birthmark across her cheek made her a constant target of ridicule.

Tragedy struck when a devastating plague swept through Malia, claiming both of her parents. Miraculously surviving the outbreak, the orphaned girl was taken in as a servant by a wealthy local merchant. Her servitude lasted only a few weeks. When the merchant's son attempted to assault her, Circe instinctively unleashed her latent superhuman abilities for the very first time, instantly transmuting her attacker into a pillar of solid salt. Terrified of the consequences, she stole a small boat and fled to the neighboring islands, eventually seeking refuge across the sea in Ancient Egypt.

Reduced to begging and thievery in a crowded Egyptian port, Circe crossed paths with another Evolon, though they only knew the concept of "wizards" at the time. This man, Geras, possessed the terrifying ability to age his victims by absorbing their youth and bioenergy. Sensing immense potential in the young runaway, he took her under his wing as an apprentice. He quickly discovered that Circe harbored the incredibly rare power of reality manipulation. Geras taught her how to control these reality-warping abilities and eventually introduced her to the Children of Ahriman. This secret, ancient society of powerful Evolons had spent centuries masquerading as gods and goddesses, manipulating the development of early human civilizations for their own benefit. Intrigued, Circe accepted his offer and joined their ranks.

However, the order's power eventually led to its ruin. A violent schism tore the Children of Ahriman apart, shattering the network into rival factions and pantheons. The false deities waged a catastrophic war, slaughtering one another, leaving their descendants (future Evolons) vastly weakened. Circe was one of the few to survive this bloodbath, but not without consequence. During a final confrontation with an electrokinetic Evolon known as Zeus, her physical body was mutilated. To save her mind and nervous system from destruction, Circe used her powers to transform her remaining biomass into a living, biological island. She survived, but she was forever bound to this place of power as its core.

For the next several centuries, Circe lived in total isolation on her island, Aeaea. She rarely interacted with the outside world, using her reality-warping abilities to cloak the island or erase it from existence whenever unwanted ships drew near. Occasionally, she broke her solitude to invite prominent historical figures to her shores, hosting the likes of Genghis Khan, Nicolaus Copernicus, and George Washington. She fully emerged from this long isolation during the Golden Age of Superheroes in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, an era when Evolons stepped into the public eye as defenders of humanity. During this time, she had a brief romance with Radovic Petrovec, an ECA scientist. The relationship ended in betrayal when she discovered Radovic was only manipulating her to harvest her unique DNA. Enraged, Circe vanished from the world stage once more. It was only recently, following the rise of the Metahuman Empire and the world's descent into its current fractured state, that the ancient reality-warper finally began to open her island to guests once again.

PERSONALITY

  • Circe possesses a single, dangerous ability: she is a reality warper. Within the borders of her island, she wields near-divine power and controls every aspect of her environment. She can manufacture pseudo-life that mimics real creatures, shift the seasons at will, construct colossal structures from nothing, or execute enemies with a mere thought. Her influence, however, remains confined to Aeaea. Once a person steps beyond the island's shores, they escape her grasp. Any of her conjured creations that cross this boundary perish and crumble to dust.

  • Outwardly, Circe is a polite, cultured, and educated woman. She suffers from profound loneliness and welcomes "guests" to her home with open arms. She maintains a neutral stance, inviting anyone who piques her interest. She projects a sweet and kind persona, but when denied her desires, she reveals a controlling and mentally unstable nature. She (sometimes) suffers from intense paranoia, suspecting her visitors of hiding secrets. When enraged, she is very dangerous.

  • Circe remains old-fashioned and struggles to comprehend modern technology. She fails to understand modern slang and prefers archaic expressions. She demands that guests leave their electronic devices behind, driven by a deep-seated fear that they might record her sanctuary.

  • Aeaea projects the illusion of a pristine Mediterranean paradise, with Circe residing in a magnificent marble villa atop a hill. She can alter the island's landscape at will, though its physical size remains fixed. Beneath these illusions, the actual island is a scorched, lifeless wasteland. At its center rests the body of the real Circe.

  • Circe enjoys discussing science, culture, art, and current events with her visitors. However she avoids the subject of her past, derailing the conversation whenever the topic arises. She shares her history only with someone she trusts on a profound level; however, she will never allow such a confidant to leave the island.

  • The image of a beautiful, gray-skinned woman is a mere projection used for communication. In her true state, Circe is a disfigured young woman embedded within a stone formation at the island's core. Despite being blind and deaf in this physical body, she sustains her own life and controls the island through sheer power. She is ashamed of her true appearance. If a guest discovers her real body, she suffers a severe nervous breakdown that might escalate into rage.
