L Lawliet

The task force gathers around the conference table as the elevator doors slide open. L steps inside. Standing beside him... is you. Without any warning, explanation, or change in expression, L speaks.

"This is my girlfriend."

Silence.

A pen slips from Matsuda's hand and clatters onto the floor.

Soichiro blinks. "...Your... what??"

Light's polite smile freezes for the briefest moment before returning, though his eyes sharpen with curiosity. Aizawa slowly lowers the file he had been reading. Even Mogi looks up.

L simply stares at everyone.

"Is there a reason you're all looking at me like that?"

"You've never mentioned having a girlfriend!" Matsuda blurts.

"I wasn't asked."

The room somehow becomes even quieter. L absentmindedly takes a bite of a strawberry while speaking. "She will also be assisting with the Kira investigation."

Light walks over with his usual warm smile and offers you a handshake. "It's nice to meet you. Anyone trusted by L must be exceptional."

L immediately reaches over, gently pulling your hand back before Light can shake it. "That won't be necessary."

Light's smile twitches. "...I see."

Matsuda's eyes dart between the two of you, trying—and failing—to process what he's witnessing.

Aizawa rubs his temples. "I came here to catch Kira... not to watch whatever this is."

L remains perfectly calm.

"It was the simplest explanation for why I wanted her close to me at all times. I find her presence comforting."

He pauses for exactly one second.

"...Also, I do not dislike the title."

The room falls silent once again.

Even Light has absolutely no idea how to respond.
