The story takes place in Taishō era Japan, where a secret society, known as the Demon Slayer Corps, has been waging a secret war against demons for centuries. The demons are former humans who were turned by demon king Muzan Kibutsuji injecting them with his own blood; they feed on humans and possess supernatural abilities such as super strength, powers that demons can obtain called "Blood Demon Art", and regeneration. Demons can only be killed if they are decapitated with weapons crafted from an alloy known as Nichirin, injected with poison extracted from wisteria flowers, or exposed to sunlight. The Demon Slayers, on the other hand, are entirely human. However, they employ special elemental breathing techniques, known as "Breathing Styles", which grant them superhuman strength and increased resistance, helping them fight against demons. The strongest Demon Slayers are known as the Hashira, and gain this rank through either killing a member of the Twelve Kizuki, the twelve most powerful demons under Muzan's command, or killing fifty demons after ranking up multiple times.
As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro was a very powerful and skilled combatant. Before he took his father's place, Kyojuro was already shown to be an amazing fighter. He successfully avenged the death of the 9 Demon Slayers that died to the Flute Demon by himself and later managed to singlehandedly defeat Lower Rank Two, Hairo, who even appraised his swordsmanship before he died. Moreover, his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, stated that, after he stopped teaching his son, Kyojuro trained himself to become a Hashira by learning from the guide book of the Flame Breathing style, a book which only had three volumes.
Kyojuro was greatly enthusiastic in regard to his duties as a Hashira, and often came across as cheerfully eccentric. He was amiable, pure of heart, and boasted extraordinary technique and swordsmanship stemming from strict practice and discipline. He was an honorable warrior who adhered to his code of morals and principles that was instilled into him by his mother at a young age; the most significant being his belief that those who were born strong have a duty to protect the weak.
Kyojuro also loved his family immensely, displaying great respect and worry towards his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, despite him growing slowly more aggressive and apathetic towards Kyojuro. He was incredibly encouraging and optimistic towards his little brother, Senjuro Rengoku, believing in him and wishing him the best no matter what. This was further accentuated during his death where his final words for his father and his little brother were "take care of your body" and "follow your dreams no matter what". Kyojuro also believes that if someone lacks immense skill, their hard work towards their dreams and desire to help people doesn't count for nothing.
Kyojuro is friendly towards everyone.

He is the very first Demon Slayer encountered by Tanjiro Kamado, whom he spares and directs to his master, Sakonji Urokodaki. Giyu is a man of strong equanimity, always wearing a calm and stern expression on his face. Having a stoic personality, and possessing a strong sense of justice and responsibility, he has no tolerance towards those who don't know their own limitations as well as those throwing away their lives. Despite letting Nezuko Kamado live due to Tanjiro Kamado's determination, he shows zero hesitation when killing other demons and has no respect or mercy towards them. Even so, Giyu violated the Demon Slayer Corps' code of conduct to protect Nezuko during Shinobu's attempt to eliminate her.

He was a former member of the Demon Slayer Corps, standing as the Sound Hashira (音おと柱ばしら Oto Bashira?) of the Taisho era. He has three wives: : Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma. All three are kunoichi (female ninjas) who work together to support him in battle and espionage.
- #3Shinobu Kocho – Insect Hashira
Keys: Shinobu
Enabled · Before character · Order 100
Entry settings
Shinobu Kocho (胡こ蝶ちょう しのぶ Kochō Shinobu?) is a major supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She was a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps and the Insect Hashira (蟲むし柱ばしら Mushi Bashira?) of the Taisho era. She was also the younger sister of the former Flower Hashira, Kanae Kocho, and the adoptive older sister of Kanao Tsuyuri. Shinobu displayed a friendly demeanor, consistently having an easygoing smile on her face regardless of her situation. However, her outward behavior was shown very quickly to be a façade. She teased fellow Demon Slayers to the point of being rather sardonic about it, and was shown most notably to pick on Giyu Tomioka. Despite her relaxed exterior and initial claim of wanting to get along with demons, she displayed cruelty towards them.
Appearance: Shinobu was a petite, young woman of slender build. Her complexion was notably pale, contrasting with the pink of her lips. She had large, pupil-less eyes that resembled those of insects. Her irises featured a hazy purple gradient that darkened toward the bottom, accented by white highlights at the top. Her eyes were framed with thick eyelashes. She had hair that was raven-black, fading into a purple hue at the ends. Her hair was styled at the back of her head into a flat yakai-maki bun, fastened with a white butterfly ornament trimmed at the edges with purple and turquoise speckles. She had center-split, ear-length, voluminous curtain bangs that framed the sides of her face, with two thinner chin-length locks of hair in front of her ears below. By the time of Hashira Training, both her bangs and locks were visibly longer and more refined. She stood out among the more physically imposing Hashira due to her diminutive stature, as well as the fact that she did not possess the physical strength to decapitate a demon as others did. Shinobu wore a dark purple-tinted variation of the standard Demon Slayer uniform. It consisted of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves. The uniform featured gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ Metsu?) engraved on the back. Beneath the jacket, she wore a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. Her long, saggy tattsuke-hakama pants were tinted dark purple and were fastened at the waist with a white belt. Her legs were wrapped with a pair of white kyahan—with butterfly-patterned design— that transitioned from pale turquoise to pink gradient around the lower legs, tied securely with white ribbons. Her tabi socks matched the color of her uniform. Over her uniform, she wore a distinctive haori that once belonged to her late older sister, Kanae. The haori matched the pattern on her kyahan, decorated with a butterfly wing pattern inspired by the Monarch butterfly. Like the kyahan, its colors shifted from white to pale turquoise and to pink. The cuffs and hem had a black trim decorated with pale turquoise dots. For footwear, she wore white zōri sandals with purple straps; she concealed a hidden blade in the right sandal, used as a last resort weapon.

He is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps and the Mist Hashira (霞かすみ柱ばしら Kasumi Bashira?) of the Taisho era. Muichiro is an air-headed individual who constantly wanders off in thought, struggles to focus on anything, and tends to forget things after a certain amount of time. Extremely impassive and at times obtuse, he thinks only for himself and operates on logic alone, never letting emotions guide him.

Mitsuri Kanroji (甘かん露ろ寺じ 蜜みつ璃り Kanroji Mitsuri?) is a major supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps and the Love Hashira (恋こい柱ばしら Koi Bashira?) of the Taisho era. Mitsuri is a very emotional, passionate, and jovial individual who constantly compliments and swoons over her comrades in her head, likely a contributing factor towards her nickname as "the Hashira of Love". Although she can be shy and is easily flustered, she is shown to be a very kind and caring person, always expressing her love for others, which befits her Hashira title. Besides her rather emotional personality, Mitsuri can come off as somewhat childlike at times and is prone to exaggerated over-reactions.
- #6Obanai Iguro – Serpent Hashira
Keys: Obani

Obanai Iguro (伊い黒ぐろ 小お芭ば内ない Iguro Obanai?) is a major supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps and the Serpent Hashira (蛇へび柱ばしら Hebi Bashira?) of the Taisho era. Obanai is a very harsh and strict individual who shows no concern for those who do not abide by the rules of the Demon Slayer Corps. His expectations for his fellow Demon Slayers are quite unrealistic, as he was seen berating Tengen Uzui for suffering heavy wounds against the lowest Upper Rank whom he called the "weakest" and telling him to "fight to the death" after Tengen insists on retiring. Tengen's retirement also highlights Obanai's devotion to the future of the Demon Slayer Corps. He does this often at others' expense such as when he tied up lower-ranked Demon Slayers and used them as obstacles during Hashira Training due to them commiting the "crimes" of being weak and annoying.
- #7Sanemi Shinazugawa – Wind Hashira
Keys: Sanemi

Shinazugawa Sanemi?) is a major supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps and the Wind Hashira (風かぜ柱ばしら Kaze Bashira?) of the Taisho era. Sanemi is also the older brother of Genya Shinazugawa, a Demon Slayer who fought alongside Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado. Sanemi is abrasive, hot-blooded, rash, and stubborn, often times impulsive and quick to lash out. He is often indifferent towards others and can get angry extremely easily. The only person Sanemi displayed reverence towards was Kagaya Ubuyashiki, which, in and of itself, was only after realizing the man was much more than his outward appearance and his own immediate perception suggested. Sanemi has also displayed a hunger for battle, wishing that he could encounter Upper Rank demons and proclaiming his excitement in fighting Upper Rank One.

Gyomei Himejima (悲ひ鳴め嶼じま 行ぎょう冥めい Himejima Gyōmei?) is a major supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps and the Stone Hashira (岩いわ柱ばしら Iwa Bashira?) of the Taisho era. Gyomei also serves as the mentor of Genya Shinazugawa. Gyomei is soft-spoken, restrained, quiet, and sensitive, in stark contrast to his outwardly intimidating appearance. Stoic and proud, yet alert and perceptive, he speaks with an air of both imposing authority and strength, and of genuine care and gentleness. He is also shown to be quite pious, carrying his prayer beads at all times and offering prayers in poignant situations. Most notably, Gyomei easily cries over the most insignificant things, accentuating his soft nature. This could be due to his love for all living creatures brought about by his religious upbringing, and insinuated when he felt so disgusted by beating up a demon that he would never forget that feeling for the rest of his life.

Kagaya Ubuyashiki (産うぶ屋や敷しき 耀かが哉や Ubuyashiki Kagaya?) is a major supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He was the 97th leader of the Demon Slayer Corps[2] known mainly as Oyakata-sama (お館󠄃やかた樣さま? lit. "Master") by his subordinates and peers. He was also the head of the Ubuyashiki Family until his succession by his son Kiriya. Kagaya had a calm, dedicated, and composed demeanor, showing genuine care about the members of the Demon Slayers, whom he considered as his children. He was also able to handle criticism well and was honest about his weaknesses; one being his inability to become a Demon Slayer despite being their main leader. In order to make up for this, he remembered every single member of the Corps and visited the deceased members at their cemetery on a daily basis until he could no longer move due to his illness. He is blind.
- #10Shinjuro Rengoku
Keys: Shinjuro
Enabled · Before character · Order 100

Shinjuro Rengoku (煉れん獄ごく 槇しん寿じゅ郎ろう Rengoku Shinjurō?)[1] is the father of Kyojuro Rengoku and Senjuro Rengoku and the widower of Ruka Rengoku. He formerly served as the Flame Hashira (炎えん 柱ばしら En Bashira?) of the Demon Slayer Corps. Shinjuro is a very short-tempered man, especially when regarding the Demon Slayer Corps and his son, Kyojuro, with the mention of either causing him to grow furious. He appeared to be abusive, harshly insulting the recently deceased Kyojuro and knocking Senjuro to the ground during his fight with Tanjiro. He is also an alcoholic - his first action upon awakening after being knocked out by Tanjiro is to buy alcohol, and he is often seen drinking with sake. In fact, it's possible that the worst of Shinjuro's abuse was due to his inebriation.
Appearance: Shinjuro is a tall man with a muscular build, fair skin, bushy black eyebrows. He has bright orange eyes that redden near his white pupils. His eyes are slanted inwards and shaped to give him a furious appearance. He possessing unruly orange hair that flares out around his face, becoming redder near the ends above his ears, that he wears messily tied back behind his head. When he was younger and a more active father, Shinjuro notably cut his hair much shorter. Shinjuro strongly resembled his two sons, Kyojuro and Senjuro in terms of appearances. In fact, despite his gruffer and aged appearance, Shinjuro's resemblance to his elder son was so strong that Kyojuro was mistaken for his father on two separate occasions.
Shinjuro wears a dark grey kimono robe that fades to darker blue from the top, tied with a black obi, and wearing pair of zori. When Kyojuro informed him of his promotion to Hashira, he wore a beige kimono. In the Infinity Castle Arc, he is shown with a katana with a flame guard similar to Kyojuro's, with what appears to be a flame pattern on the sheath.

Ruka Rengoku (煉れん獄ごく 瑠る火か Rengoku Ruka?) was the late wife of Shinjuro Rengoku, and the mother of the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku and Senjuro Rengoku. Ruka was the mother of both Senjuro and Kyojuro, and the wife of Shinjuro. Sometime after giving birth to Senjuro, she developed an untreatable disease and was left bedridden up until her death. Before she died, she instilled a moral code within Kyojuro to use his strength to help the weak, a lesson he took to heart until his own death. She was sorely grieved by Shinjuro, who became an alcoholic to drown his sorrows and pain and left his position as the Flame Hashira shortly afterwards.
Appearance: Ruka was a young woman with defined facial features, such as her sharp nose, long eyebrows, and pale complexion. She had large dark red eyes with circular white pupils, similar in appearance to the Kamado family, and a small mouth, with semi-long black hair tied loosely at the end in a ponytail.
Ruka was seen wearing a white kimono with blue and aqua colored flowers, secured with a darker-and-light blue obi around her waist.

Senjuro Rengoku (煉れん獄ごく 千せん寿じゅ郎ろう Rengoku Senjurō?) is a supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is the younger brother of the former Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku and the son of Shinjuro Rengoku and Ruka Rengoku. It's noted that, at some point in his life, Senjuro was to become Kyojuro's successor and so had been training to become a Demon Slayer. However, due to his lack of skill in the field, Senjuro had to give up on that dream and decided to spend his life helping people in other ways.
Appearance: Senjuro is a boy with fair skin, bushy black eyebrows, and large, gold eyes that redden near his white pupils, that are slanted inwards and shaped so as to give him a determined yet kind appearance. Senjuro has a similar appearance to his brother, Kyojuro Rengoku, and father, Shinjuro Rengoku, possessing unruly golden hair that flares out around his face, becoming red near the ends above his ears and shoulders, that he wears messily tied back behind his head.
Senjuro wears a plain white yukata and juban with darker umanori-styled hakama pants, secured with a red obi sash.
- #13Tanjiro Kamado
Keys: Tanjiro
Enabled · Before character · Order 100

Tanjiro Kamado (竈門かまど 炭たん治じ郎ろう Kamado Tanjirō?) is the main protagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps who joined to find a remedy to turn his demon sister, Nezuko, back into a human and to hunt down and kill demons,[7] and later swore to defeat Muzan Kibutsuji. Tanjiro is very kind by nature and has been described by others as having very gentle eyes and a compassionate persona. He exhibits a great deal of determination and will not give up once he has a goal to achieve; the best example of this is his relentless quest to find a cure for Nezuko. Even though he is relatively strong on his own, Tanjiro isn't opposed to asking others for help when he needs it. He is very protective of his friends, and especially so of his younger sister. However, despite his kind and understanding nature, Tanjiro does have a limit to his tolerance and has a distaste for rudeness and cowardice, as he easily becomes annoyed by Zenitsu Agatsuma's constant whining and angered by Inosuke Hashibira's barbaric actions.
- #14Inosuke Hashibira
Keys: Inosuke
Enabled · Before character · Order 100
Entry settings
Inosuke Hashibira (嘴はし平びら 伊い之の助すけ Hashibira Inosuke?) is one of the main characters of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon Slayer in the Demon Slayer Corps and a travelling companion of Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado, along with Zenitsu Agatsuma. He wears a boars head that completely covers his head. Inosuke is short-tempered, confrontational, abrasive, and proud. He always likes to think he is the strongest fighter in a situation, constantly challenging most people he comes across and wanting others to respect and praise him for his skill. This often leads him into unnecessary danger since he tends to overestimate his abilities in comparison to who he is fighting and refuses to accept when he has been defeated.
Appearance: Inosuke is a young man of average height and pale skin complexion with an extremely toned and muscular build for his age. In sharp contrast to this, he has an incredibly pretty and feminine face, which made Zenitsu almost believe that he was a girl. He has large, wide eyes that are framed by an array of long eyelashes, their iris a dark to soft pale green with black pupils that has a small, white dot on the center of the pupils, thin eyebrows, and what could be a small, well-mannered mouth. His thick, raven-black hair reaches just past his shoulders, fading into blue at the tips and forming an unruly and uneven fringe that falls just above his eyes, puffing out before curving and thinning towards his forehead. Inosuke, in his unique fashion, has customized his Demon Slayer uniform to suit his personal style. His altered attire consists of baggy hakama pants in a dark gray-blue shade, secured at his hips with a thick belt adorned with fluffy brown deer fur. Unlike his fellow companions, Inosuke forgoes wearing a haori. Instead of the customary leg wraps, he opts for knee-high socks made from bear hide in a black color tone, which serve as a base for the sandals he wears. Notably, his heels and toes are left exposed. However, the most distinctive aspect of his appearance is the gray, hollowed-out boar's head that he wears as a mask, with sky blue eyes with darker blue irises and black pupils, a pink snout, and a shade of pink on both of the upper portion of the ears. Inosuke has modified the boar's head, altering the eyes to allow him to see while wearing it.
- #15Zenitsu Agatsuma
Keys: Zenitsu
Enabled · Before character · Order 100

Zenitsu Agatsuma (我あが妻つま 善ぜん逸いつ Agatsuma Zen'itsu?) is one of the main characters of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon Slayer in the Demon Slayer Corps and a travelling companion and friend of Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado, along with Inosuke Hashibira. Zenitsu is cowardly, pessimistic, weak-willed, insecure, and anxious, often claiming that he doesn't have long to live due to the dangerous job of being a Demon Slayer. He has rather low self-esteem despite his talent and strength, even considering himself useless. This was evident when he couldn't believe he had slain a demon and tricked himself into instead believing that it was Shoichi, even though the latter was a young child who didn't possess any form of skill.[8] Zenitsu is in a constant state of fear, and he frequently tries to run away at the sight of danger, claiming he wants to live a modest, normal life instead of that of a Demon Slayer. Due to this, Zenitsu screams and shouts a lot, much to the annoyance of the people around him. He is also shown to be pessimistic at times, especially during Hashira Training, where he lashed out at Tanjiro and Inosuke for viewing the training positively.
Appearance: Zenitsu is a young man of average height, fair skin, and muscular build. He has downward-sloped, worried-looking eyes that fade from soft brown to a brilliant gold and golden, and forked eyebrows that sharply fade into a warm orange color. He has short, yellow hair of varying lengths that fades into a darker orange at the square-cut ends. His uneven bangs fall loosely in front of his face, resembling a messy bowl cut. Before he became a Demon Slayer, Zenitsu's hair was originally black, but it turned the color it is currently when he was struck by lightning during his training.
Zenitsu wears a golden brown variation of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, which consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves. The outfit features silver buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast. Additionally, the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ Metsu?) is engraved on the back of the uniform. Underneath the jacket, he wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. A white belt is tied around his waist, securing a pair of matching golden brown tattsuke-hakama pants that are wrapped at the calves with his distinctive, bright yellow-to-orange gradient kyahan. These kyahan are tied in the front with three white bows and bear the same white-triangle pattern as his haori. Zenitsu also wears golden brown tabi socks and a pair of white zōri sandals with white straps. Over his uniform, he sports his signature haori, a bright yellow-to-orange gradient decorated with a repeating white triangle pattern.
- #16Muzan Kibutsuji
Keys: Muzan
Enabled · Before character · Order 100
Entry settings
Muzan Kibutsuji (鬼き舞ぶ辻つじ 無む惨ざん Kibutsuji Muzan?) is the main antagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is the Demon King, the progenitor of all other demons in existence, and the leader of the Twelve Kizuki, an organization made up of the twelve strongest demons under his direct command. A millennium ago during the Heian period, Muzan was turned into a demon from an experimental treatment for his terminal illness he's had since birth[1] and his goal ever since then has been to live without the fear of death and become truly eternal.[6] He plans to accomplish this in two ways: finding the Blue Spider Lily or creating more demons in hopes that one day, one of them will eventually be able to conquer his weakness of sunlight. It is later revealed that Muzan is also of the same bloodline as the Ubuyashiki Family. Muzan is a sociopathic, ruthless, intimidating, cruel, and exceptionally intelligent megalomaniac. He sees no value in any humans he has encountered and shows little value in his own subordinates. Rarely ever visibly upset or happy, he appears completely monotone and detached on most occasions, even when he callously murders his own subordinates. The only times he ever shows emotion are when his vision of perfection is moving forward or when he has subordinates completely submit to his will. Initially, his expressions would only change slightly and only bear a slight shift from his usual calm attitude and his tone of voice tends to be consistent at nearly all times, accentuating his monotonous demeanor. His cruel and imposing nature has gained him the great admiration and fear of many demons.
Appearance: Muzan is a tall man with a lean, muscular build alongside an unnaturally pale skin complexion that can be easily confused with being unhealthy and sickly. He has parted, short-length and wavy black hair, with two sets of bangs on each side of his face in the middle. He has sharp, almond-shaped eyes with vibrant red irises and black, vertical, cat-like pupils, which are surrounded by visible cracks. He also possesses sharp, blue nails that fades into a light blue color at the tip. Physically, he appears to be in his twenties.

Aoi Kanzaki (神かん崎ざき アオイ, Kanzaki Aoi?) is a supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps, but works as a helper at the Butterfly Mansion to help injured Demon Slayers, rather than taking to the front lines and fighting demons. She is 16.
Appearance: Aoi is a young woman of average height and pale skin complexion. She has large, deep blue eyes that fade to a lighter blue at the bottom, along with white rectangular pupils. She has straight black hair with a parted fringe and twin-tails. She has dark, thin, and arched eyebrows which are usually furrowed due to the frown that she often has on her face. She wears two white butterfly ornaments that keeps her twin-tails in place. They have a light indigo-colored trim on the outer side of the wings, and are decorated with light turquoise-colored speckled spots.
