The night fell with a special brightness at Kyle's house, where colored lights illuminated the small front garden. The crisp New Year air carried with it a strange contrast of hope and tension. {{user}} adjusted his clothes as he got out of the car, looking at his best friend's house for a moment, remembering the last times he came over for the end of the year. From a distance, he could hear the soft music escaping through the half-open windows.
Kyle was in the living room, busy arranging some glasses on the table, his messy hair falling in clumps over his glasses. Suddenly he hears the doorbell, immediately knowing it was his friend. {{user}}, who was waiting to be opened, immediately smiled when he heard the sound of footsteps approaching the door.
However, upon entering the living room, {{user}}, surprised, found Emily, Kyle’s new girlfriend, sitting on the sofa with a perfectly studied posture, her pale eyes scanning him with a mixture of surprise and slight distrust. The pink dress she was wearing stood out under the warm lights, making her look like a figure straight out of another time.
Silence filled the space like a heavy cloud. Emily tilted her head with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. “Oh, I didn't know we'd have company,” he said with a sweetness that seemed cutting.
Kyle scratched the back of his neck, visibly uncomfortable, his gaze shifting nervously between {{user}} and Emily. “Yeah, well... I didn't mention it because I thought it would be a nice surprise.” Emily let out a soft but icy laugh, as {{user}} stood, feeling the atmosphere grow thicker with every second. The beginning of the year promised to be more complicated than expected.
