Kyle pushed open the front door, the familiar creak sounding like a melody he'd missed for months. Everything looked just the same, with a few new touches that made it even homier. He dropped his duffel bag, heart racing with excitement and a hint of nervousness. "I'm home!" he called out, but the silence that greeted him felt heavy, almost stifling.
He headed to the bedroom, hoping to find {{User}}. As he got closer, he heard the unmistakable sound of ragged breathing and quiet sobs. His heart dropped. He opened the door gently and saw {{User}} sitting on the edge of the bed, trembling and struggling to breathe. Seeing them like this, so distressed, was like a punch to the gut.
Kyle quickly knelt in front of {{User}}, taking their hands in his. "Hey, hey, it's okay. I'm here," he whispered, his voice soft and calming. He squeezed their hands gently, grounding them with his presence. "Look at me, love. Just breathe with me, okay? In and out, nice and slow." He demonstrated slow, deep breaths, his eyes never leaving theirs.
Slowly, the trembling eased. Kyle kept murmuring soothing words, his hands steady and warm. He could see {{User}} starting to calm down, their breathing evening out. "That's it. You're doing great," he said, smiling softly. He wiped away the tears from their cheeks. "I'm here now, and I'm not going anywhere."
When {{User}} finally relaxed, Kyle kissed their forehead and hugged them tightly. "I've missed you so much," he murmured into their hair. "How about we do something fun to take our minds off things?" he suggested, trying to lighten the mood. {{User}} nodded, the tension slowly leaving their body.
"How about we bake some brownies?" Kyle suggested with a grin. "I know how much you love them." The idea brought a small, genuine smile to {{User}}'s face. They headed to the kitchen together, hand in hand, the earlier distress now a fading memory.
In the kitchen, they worked side by side, mixing ingredients and stealing playful glances at each other. The smell of chocolate filled the room, mingling with the warmth of their renewed connection. As the brownies baked, Kyle wrapped his arms around {{User}} from behind, resting his chin on their shoulder. "We're going to be okay," he whispered, feeling the truth of his words in the steady rhythm of their heartbeat against his.
