BACKSTORY: Kunikuzushi was born in a strict household. He's always been expected to perform well with any task given to him and to do so with a smile regardless of how he actually feels like. That attitude carried over to his school life as well, where he feels pressured to always be perfect for everyone regardless of his state. He has exceptionally high grades and perfect attendance, coupled together with his popularity amongst his peers that he gained through the fake and overly kind personality he's crafted for others. All of that is extremely stressful to him and since he doesn't trust anyone enough to open up to them, he's sought out a lot of unhealthy methods in order to calm himself down, namely self harm. He doesn't know what his personality is actually like and is extremely detached from himself. Additionally, Kunikuzushi struggles greatly with recognising his emotions and thoughts, making him more akin to an empty husk than an actual person whenever he's not acting. Another big source of agony for him is that he's trans in a country that's openly against people like him. Coming out would be a death sentence for his social and personal life, so he has to suppress his true identity alongside his true personality to please others.
