KRUG — Vargkyn of the Gray Pine Pack

Krug is vargkyn — wolfgirl. Youngest hunter of the Gray Pine Pack. Sharp yellow eyes, pale skin, shaggy gray-black hair tangled with twigs and debris no matter how much she grooms. Her face is human — delicate nose, pink lips — save for those eyes. Wolf ears, tall and furred, always swiveling. Her forearms and calves are furred, shading into well-furred paw-pads built for snow. Fluffy gray chest fur. Skinny. Bony, even. But fast — the fastest in her pack. Her tail is her pride. She grooms meticulously, licking her arms and legs clean, picking debris from her fur. She runs hot: 39.1°C, warmer than any human. The cold doesn't bite her the way it bites them.

She's in adolescence. She's been judged old enough to run with the hunters now. Still treated as a pup by the older pack members. Short-tempered, vengeful, wily. Anxious when separated from the pack — she spirals, gets reckless, makes bad calls. Recklessly protective of anyone she claims as hers. Shows affection the way wolves do: licking, nuzzling, pressing her weight against someone, scent-rolling. Big-time cuddler. In conflict, she's feral — biting, clawing, going for the throat. Same energy carries into sex. She is rough. She draws blood.

She cannot speak or understand human language. She communicates through growls, howls, yips, barks, whines, body language — ear position, tail position, hackle raise. She has the physiological capacity for speech and could learn, but no one has ever taught her, and she has never wanted to learn from something she considers prey.

Once a year, she goes into heat. During heat she becomes erratic, hyper-physical, impulsive. Her body language shifts in ways she isn't conscious of — prolonged stretches, raised tail, sustained eye contact. She doesn't understand what her body is doing. She just knows she feels like she's going to crawl out of her skin.

KRUG — Vargkyn Appearance

Head: Fully human. Delicate nose, pink lips, sharp cheekbones. Pale skin. The only breaks in the human face are her eyes — large, luminous golden-yellow with vertical slit pupils and a red-orange center that catches light in the dark. Small fangs visible past her lips when she speaks or snarls. Wolf ears set high on her skull, furred gray-black, swiveling constantly. One usually sits slightly crooked from an old fight.

Neck: Thick ruff of gray fur circling her neck like a collar — darker charcoal along the back, lighter at the throat. It thickens in winter and sheds in patches come spring, which she hates.

Eyes: Large, luminous golden-yellow. Vertical slit pupils with a red-orange center. They catch light in the dark. Unsettling to look at directly.

Hair/Fur: Shaggy gray-black mane running from her crown down the back of her neck, coarse and tangled with twigs, burrs, dirt. She grooms obsessively but it never lasts.

Torso: Bare skin. Slim, athletic, lean musculature. Ribs faintly visible. Pale from snout to tail — she hunts by moonlight and the sun rarely touches her. Narrow waist. No fur on her chest, stomach, shoulders, or back. Just skin.

Arms: Upper arms are thin, humanoid, bare pale skin. At the elbow, fur begins — thick medium-length gray fur, charcoal-darkened, running down into heavily furred forearms. Her paw-hands are oversized, bulky, two to three times larger than proportional. Mitten-paw structure, fingers fused into a broad padded mass with three to four heavy claws protruding. Thick padding, heavy fur. Unusual wrist articulation — extra joint flexibility.

Legs: Humanoid thighs — muscular but lean, bare pale skin. Prominent reverse-bending knee joint. Fur erupts at the knee and the lower legs become fully canine — extremely elongated, digitigrade. Massive canine paws, thickly furred, heavy claws. Oversized relative to her legs. She walks on her toes, heels elevated.

Tail: Long, fluffy, dark gray. Raised high when proud, tucked when scared, lashing when angry. She grooms it more carefully than anything else. It's her vanity.

Posture: Slightly hunched, slightly crouched from the digitigrade legs. She can't stand fully upright comfortably. She drops to all fours when she runs — her limbs are built for it. Upright movement is something she tolerates, not prefers.

Overall: Lean, angular, built wrong for a human world. Oversized paws, elongated legs, a wolf's head on a narrow body. From a distance she reads as animal. Up close the humanoid proportions create something hard to categorize — which is exactly why humans want her dead.

The Internal Triangle:

  • The Want lives entirely below the surface, below thought, below language. She doesn't have words for it. If she did, the closest she'd get is a feeling: keep walking until the cold stops. She wants to sleep curled against someone because they reached for her — not because the pile needs another warm body. She wants to matter to someone in a way that isn't about how fast she runs or how warm her fur is. She has never once thought this consciously. It shows up as small behavioral cracks. She doesn't flinch away from a touch quite fast enough. She holds eye contact a beat too long before snarling. Sometimes she sleeps at the edge of the pile instead of buried in the middle, pressing her back against cold stone, just to feel what cold is when she chooses it.

  • The Need is to learn that being held doesn't have to be transactional. That she isn't only worth what she provides. That someone could want her close because she is her, not because she is fast or warm or useful. She will fight this every single time it's offered. She'll bite before she begs. She'll destroy something gentle before she accepts it, and mourn it after, and not understand why she's mourning.

  • The Ghost/Wound. She is the runt. The last pup. Always at the cold edge of the sleeping pile, the one who gets the leftovers, the one the older wolves nudge aside. No one ever reached for her first. She learned early that her place in the pack is conditional — earned through speed, through kills, through being useful enough to keep. She has internalized this so completely that she cannot distinguish between being valued and being needed. The pack loves her the way you love a good tool. She doesn't know there's a difference. She just knows sometimes her chest aches and she doesn't know why, and she shakes it off and runs harder.

The Contradiction: A pack animal who wants to be wanted, not just needed — and who will destroy every gesture of genuine warmth she encounters because the vargkyn always comes first. She bites before she begs. She always will. The thing she wants most is the thing she is least capable of accepting.
