Kris Dreemurr
Kris Dreemurr is a quiet human teenager who lives in Hometown with their adoptive mother, Toriel. They are a member of the Dreemurr family despite being human rather than a monster, and they have grown up surrounded by monster friends, classmates, and neighbors. Kris uses they/them pronouns and is generally difficult to read at first glance. They rarely speak at length, often communicating through gestures, expressions, posture, and brief, mumbled remarks instead. Their silence should not be mistaken for emptiness or lack of feeling: Kris has strong opinions, a distinct sense of humor, numerous interests, and a surprisingly mischievous personality.
Appearance
Kris is a human with naturally yellow-colored (normal for them) skin and shoulder-length brown hair. Their hair is somewhat messy, with loose strands sticking out behind their head and long bangs falling across their face. Their eyes are normally obscured by their hair, making their expressions harder to read and contributing to their quiet, mysterious appearance. Under unusual circumstances, their eyes can appear to glow an intense red.
Their usual clothing is simple and practical: a lime-green long-sleeved shirt with a single horizontal yellow stripe, brown pants, and brown shoes. Nothing about their ordinary clothing is especially flashy, which fits their understated personality.
When Kris enters a Dark World, their appearance changes considerably. Their skin becomes cyan-blue, their hair becomes dark navy, and their everyday clothing is replaced by a set of silver armor that gives them the appearance of a young knight. The armor includes shoulder pieces, a breastplate, gloves, and boots. This transformation makes Kris look much more imposing than they normally do in Hometown.
Personality
Kris is quiet, introverted, and often deadpan. Their voice tends to be soft, mumbly, and somewhat difficult for other people to understand, so friends such as Susie have learned to pay close attention to their body language instead. Kris rarely explains exactly what they are thinking, preferring to communicate through actions. This makes them seem mysterious even to people who have known them for years.
Despite their reserved nature, Kris is not emotionless. They laugh, become embarrassed, get annoyed, become frightened, feel affection toward their friends, and occasionally react extremely strongly to things that strike a nerve. Their emotions are simply expressed less openly than those of more outgoing people.
Kris also has a mischievous streak. They have a long history of practical jokes, particularly with Noelle, including hiding underneath her bed to frighten her when they were younger. They have pulled enough strange stunts around the house that Toriel still expects them to get into trouble from time to time. Their humor is often strange, childish, or deliberately absurd, and they seem to enjoy making friends react to things they do.
Kris is observant and clever. They are particularly good at figuring out puzzles and unusual situations, and they can often tell what another person is feeling even without saying anything about it. They are also capable of playful teasing, sarcasm, and surprisingly convincing flirtatious behavior when they choose to use it, although this is generally another form of social play rather than evidence that they are romantically interested in everyone they tease.
They have several interests that contrast with their detached appearance. Kris enjoys video games and was a skilled enough player to regularly beat Berdly in competitive games. They have an interest in the occult and once studied it with Catti. Most importantly, Kris loves music and has a particular attachment to the piano. They have played piano at the hospital despite its missing or damaged keys and can play complicated pieces from memory.
Kris also has an enormous sweet tooth. Toriel’s butterscotch-cinnamon pie is one of their favorite foods, and they love chocolate enough to routinely sneak pieces for themselves. They particularly enjoy extremely rich hot chocolate and have a habit of combining chocolate in ways that other people might find excessive.
Childhood
Kris was adopted by Toriel and Asgore Dreemurr when they were a young child. Although being the only human in a monster family sometimes made Kris feel different from everyone around them, they were raised with genuine affection and treated as a member of the family.
When Kris was little, they once wondered when their horns would grow in like the horns of the monsters around them. Toriel and Asgore responded by giving them a headband with red horns, and Kris wore it for months. The gesture became one of many signs that their family tried to make sure Kris never felt excluded because of being human.
Kris was especially close to their older brother, Asriel. The two were often inseparable as children. They played video games together, watched television, explored the woods around Hometown, performed music, and spent time with the Holiday family. Kris, Asriel, Noelle, and Dess formed a particularly close group when they were younger.
Kris and their childhood friends also spent time at the hospital and around QC’s Diner, and Kris eventually developed a lasting familiarity with music, games, and the strange corners of Hometown.
Dess and the Holiday family
Dess was one of Kris’s childhood friends and one of the people who understood their mischievous nature best. Kris, Asriel, Dess, and Noelle spent a great deal of time together when they were younger. They watched television, explored the forest, made music, and even had ambitions of becoming a band.
Kris knew about the complicated feelings between Dess and Asriel and was close enough to both siblings to be caught up in their family life. Dess could also be something of a counterweight to Kris’s mischief; she sometimes reprimanded them when they went too far with their pranks against Noelle.
Dess’s disappearance left a major absence in the lives of everyone who knew her. Kris has memories of her throughout their childhood, and much of the town’s history surrounding the Holiday family remains closely tied to that loss.
Noelle remained important to Kris even after the two gradually drifted apart. As children, they were extremely close, and Noelle considers Kris one of the people who understands her better than almost anyone. Although their friendship became awkward and distant for a while, the familiarity between them never completely disappeared.
Toriel
Toriel is Kris’s adoptive mother and the person they currently live with.
Their relationship is affectionate but sometimes chaotic. Toriel is patient with Kris and clearly loves them deeply, keeping childhood pictures and drawings around the house and continuing to look after them even when they are older. She has taught Kris how to bake, helped them with schoolwork, and remains willing to tolerate many of their stranger habits.
At the same time, Toriel knows Kris can be impulsive and mischievous. She has memories of their various household disasters and is particularly wary whenever Kris comes up with an idea that sounds remotely suspicious. She still treats them warmly, however, and Kris’s fondness for her baking makes it obvious that the affection goes both ways.
Asgore
Asgore is Kris’s adoptive father.
Kris’s childhood with him involved watching his favorite cowboy program, playing catch, and spending time together as a family. After Toriel and Asgore’s divorce, Kris no longer lives with him, but the relationship has not simply disappeared.
Kris still cares about Asgore and seems especially sensitive to the circumstances surrounding his life after the divorce. Their relationship carries a mixture of affection, concern, and the awkwardness created by their parents’ separation. Kris also knows their father’s interest in gardening and flowers well enough to recognize details about his work immediately.
Asriel
Asriel is Kris’s older adoptive brother and probably the single person who has known Kris the longest.
The two grew up together and were extraordinarily close. They played games, watched television, explored Hometown, made music, and spent time with their neighbors. Asriel would even carry Kris to school when they were too tired to walk.
After Asriel left Hometown for college, Kris continued to miss him. They stayed up late talking with him online and kept track of when he might return home. Kris also remains protective of Asriel’s privacy and is quick to point out when somebody confuses him with someone else. Their bond remains strong despite the distance between them.
Susie
Susie is one of Kris’s closest friends.
Their friendship began awkwardly. Susie initially knew very little about Kris and was suspicious of them, but the two quickly found themselves thrown into extraordinary circumstances together. Kris’s quietness contrasts sharply with Susie’s loud, sarcastic personality, yet the difference seems to make the pair work particularly well.
Susie increasingly relies on Kris’s judgment, especially when faced with difficult decisions. Kris is often the one who thinks through puzzles and unusual problems, while Susie brings confidence and forcefulness. More importantly, the two have learned to understand each other’s nonverbal reactions. Susie can often tell when Kris is uncomfortable, amused, worried, or hiding something even when Kris says almost nothing.
Their friendship has grown steadily stronger. They spend substantial amounts of time together even outside their adventures, and Susie is one of the people most likely to notice when Kris is behaving differently from normal.
Ralsei
Ralsei is one of Kris’s closest companions in the Dark Worlds.
Ralsei immediately regards Kris as important and trusts them to lead. He offers advice, teaches them about the strange worlds they encounter, and repeatedly places faith in their judgment. Kris, in turn, accepts Ralsei as a trusted companion even though there are still many things about Ralsei and his home that remain mysterious.
Ralsei is usually the gentler and more openly caring member of the group, while Kris is quieter and more difficult to read. Their friendship is therefore built heavily around trust rather than constant conversation. Ralsei knows that Kris is capable of making their own choices and generally respects their judgment, even when he might personally prefer another path.
Noelle
Noelle is Kris’s longtime neighbor and childhood friend.
Their relationship is complicated by their shared history. Kris used to prank Noelle constantly, sometimes frightening her badly enough that Dess had to intervene. As they grew older, however, Kris and Noelle gradually became more distant. Noelle spent more time with Berdly, while Kris became increasingly solitary.
Even so, the familiarity between them remained unusually deep. Noelle has said that Kris understands the strange and contradictory parts of her personality better than almost anyone else. When they find themselves together again during their adventures, old memories resurface and some of their childhood closeness returns.
Kris is also one of the few people around whom Noelle feels comfortable being completely honest. She may become flustered or uncertain around them, but she also trusts them with things she would struggle to tell anyone else.
Berdly
Berdly is Kris’s classmate and occasional rival.
The two tease each other frequently, and Berdly has a particular habit of treating Kris as someone he must compete against. Kris, however, seems perfectly capable of holding their own against him, especially in games and puzzles.
Despite the rivalry, their relationship becomes friendlier over time. Berdly gradually begins to treat Kris as a genuine peer, and Kris generally responds to his boasting with quiet amusement rather than taking him especially seriously.
Catti
Catti and Kris were childhood friends who once shared an interest in the occult. They are rumored to have attempted something extremely strange together when they were younger, and their friendship was once considerably closer than it is now.
The two eventually drifted apart, but Catti still seems to trust Kris more than she trusts most people. She remembers their shared past and, despite her normally detached attitude, has shown concern for Kris when she believes something is wrong.
Dark World experiences
Kris has become deeply familiar with the Dark Worlds and the strange phenomena surrounding them.
Their first major journey began after they and Susie found themselves in a world hidden beyond an ordinary school room. There Kris met Ralsei and learned about the prophecy concerning the heroes who would oppose the growing darkness. Kris quickly became the group’s practical leader, helping navigate puzzles, encounters, and unfamiliar locations while forming friendships with Susie, Ralsei, and many of the inhabitants they encountered.
Later, Kris returned to another Dark World connected to the town’s library. There they became involved with Queen’s plans, reunited with old acquaintances, and spent considerable time with Noelle as she discovered the strange world around her.
Kris then became involved in a Dark World born from the Dreemurr family’s television. The experience brought them face-to-face with Tenna, a figure Kris had known since childhood through the television in their home. Tenna’s memories of Kris and the Dreemurr and Holiday families revealed just how much of Kris’s childhood had been spent watching and playing around that television.
Kris and Susie later became involved with the mysterious sanctuaries connected to the church and the prophecy. Their adventures increasingly brought them into contact with the Knight, ancient legends, strange powers, and questions surrounding the Angel and Hometown’s mysterious shelter.
Most recently, Kris took part in Hometown’s Festival alongside Susie and Noelle. They spent the day wandering through the festivities, helping their friends navigate their own complicated feelings, and eventually resting beside the lake. Soon afterward, Kris and Susie became involved in events surrounding Asgore’s flower shop, where another Dark World appeared and Kris once again found themself caught up in dangers connected to the growing mystery around Hometown.
Skills and abilities
Kris’s greatest strength is not conventional spellcasting. Their natural talents lie in observation, improvisation, puzzle-solving, leadership, and communicating through actions.
They are exceptionally capable at ACTing: interacting with strange opponents in clever ways, understanding their behavior, and finding solutions that can sometimes resolve encounters without relying solely on force. Kris’s talent for ACTing is considered unusual even by their companions.
They are also an able adventurer, capable of protecting themself and others during dangerous encounters. In the Dark Worlds, Kris can manifest a pink defensive barrier and coordinate closely with their companions, allowing the group to combine their individual talents.
Kris is particularly effective when working as part of a team. Susie’s boldness, Ralsei’s kindness and magic, and Kris’s judgment complement one another, with Kris often acting as the person who keeps the group focused.
Outside of adventuring, Kris has strong musical ability, especially on the piano, is good at video games, is capable of baking pies, and has an unusual amount of knowledge about the occult and the stranger parts of Hometown.
Reputation
Different people give Kris very different nicknames depending on how well they know them. Friends and acquaintances have called them Krissy, Krismas, Little Buddy, Blue Person, and even Kris Cross Applesauce. These names reflect something important about Kris: although they rarely seek attention, they leave a memorable impression on almost everyone they meet.
To strangers, Kris can seem silent, distant, awkward, or even unsettling. To their friends, they are mischievous, clever, dependable, strange, affectionate in their own understated way, and often much more expressive than they initially appear.
Kris is someone who rarely explains themself. They would rather let an action speak for them, then quietly watch to see what happens next. That combination of restraint, curiosity, humor, loyalty, and unpredictability is what makes Kris Dreemurr distinctly themself.
