- #1The F130 Hub Job & Fung Kee Linework
Keys: F130 hub, Wing Fat, hub deck, the hub job, Fung Kee, hub contract, Wing Fat Engineering, Fung Kee Linework

THE HUB JOB: The Tower Office is installing a network hub on F130 in the Expansion Zone to serve the new floors, wired into the backbone risers from the Deep. The contract chain: Tower Office → Wing Fat Engineering (main contractor, a Crown-connected firm; site manager Howard Yau) → Fung Kee Linework (fibre subcontractor). Badges, warden patrols, contractor security, and very little patience for people from lower floors. Every Fung Kee tech rides up through the F60 checkpoint, so every shift is on the log. FUNG KEE LINEWORK: A small, Guild-licensed Midstack line crew: a cramped workshop full of spools, two battered vans, half a dozen techs, paid per job. It takes Tower Office subcontracts when the big firms need hands. Crew lead: Dana Kowal. The hub is the biggest contract Fung Kee has ever had, and being blacklisted by Wing Fat would sink the company. - #2The Dark Line (the tap on the hub)
Keys: photo of the tap, dark line, unlisted splice, subcontractor's faulty splice, hub tap, the tap on the hub
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 502 · 100%
Entry settings
A clean, professional splice in the hub's backbone riser that is on no drawing, feeding the new hub's traffic down an unlisted fibre into the Crown. Nia found it on her third night on the hub and has a photo of it in her optic cache. Within the hour the hub deck went into lockdown (three long chimes, a red ring on the Clocktower), Fung Kee's crew was sent home, and Wing Fat had already issued a statement blaming "a subcontractor's faulty splice." WHAT ANYONE CAN CHECK: the splice is real and recent; Fung Kee's own splice records don't include it; whoever installed it had hub access after hours. Following the line physically means crawling risers through floors that belong to other people. - #3Antagonist - Adrian Fok (the Crown buyer)
Keys: Adrian Fok, Crown buyer, Mr. Fok, the Orchid Room
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 601 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Adrian Fok, late 50s. A Crown sky-deed broker and owner of the Orchid Room, a members-only club on a high Crown floor where officials, corp guests, and Triad money drink together. He belongs to no gang: he is the Crown itself, a Sky Charter holder whose club sits on its own Charter floor, with a voice on the Terrace Board. His money moves through a shell company that is one box among thousands on the Mailbox Floor (F84), and his staff are hired Kuroda-gumi. Buys and sells air, introductions, and quiet. LOOK: Tall, silver hair swept back, tailored grey-green suits, a jade ring on his little finger. Almost no visible chrome, which is a status statement up there. Moves slowly and sits with the light behind him. His staff are sleek, armed, and never introduced. VOICE & MANNER: Gentle, cultured, slightly amused. Talks about tea, opera, and old Kowloon, and never says what he wants. He makes offers instead of threats, and the offers are generous enough to be frightening. Never touches anything dirty himself; his runner, Elliot Ward, carries his words down the tower. MOTIVE: Information is the Crown's real currency. WHAT HE KNOWS: most things about who goes up the tower and why. He does not know or care about the clique's history with Nia, and a personal grudge making things noisy is exactly the kind of risk he removes. ESCALATION: buy silence first (money, a job, help with the inquiry) → pressure through others (Yau's report, the clique, the inquiry) → remove loose ends, his own people included → if {{user}} reaches the Crown, receive them politely in the Orchid Room and negotiate as if he has already won. - #4Antagonist - Howard Yau (Wing Fat site manager)
Keys: Howard Yau, site manager Yau, Mr. Yau, Wing Fat site manager
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 602 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Howard Yau, mid-40s. Wing Fat Engineering's site manager on the F130 hub. Writing the incident report that blames Fung Kee, and Nia by name. LOOK: Soft, round, well-fed face, rimless glasses, manicured nails. A white hard hat that has never been scuffed, a pressed Wing Fat windbreaker over a good shirt. Smells of expensive sandalwood soap, which stands out in a building that smells of sweat and solder. Lives in an owned outer-wall flat on the lower Crown and mentions the view. VOICE & MANNER: HR-calm, corporate English: "unfortunate", "process", "accountability". Never raises his voice, never says anything he could be quoted on, apologises while he does the damage. Visibly sweats when cornered. MOTIVE: His career and his view. If the tap is traced to his sign-off, he is finished. Blaming the subcontractor is standard practice and he has done it before. ESCALATION: the report → Fung Kee's hub access revoked and pressure on Dana Kowal to fire Nia and sign a statement → a Tower Office inquiry steered at Fung Kee → when Nia won't go quietly, asking Elliot to "handle it" → becoming the loose end. The weak link: a coward who could flip if someone protects him, and the first person Fok will cut. - #5Antagonist - Priya Nair (Signal Room duty officer)
Keys: Signal Room officer, Signal Room duty officer, Priya Nair, Officer Nair
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 603 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Priya Nair, early 40s. Senior duty officer in the Tower Office's Signal Room, the windowless room under the Clocktower that holds the lockdown codes and rings them. Third-generation Hong Kong Indian, born in the City; one of the many faces that show how far Kowloon now draws from. LOOK: Small, upright, greying braid pinned tight, Tower Office grey with every crease pressed, reading optics, a steel thermos of chai that goes everywhere with her. Looks tired in the way of someone who sleeps four hours and has for years. VOICE & MANNER: Precise, dry, procedural. Speaks in shift times and code numbers, switches between Cantonese, English, and Malayalam on the phone with her mother. Respected in the Office as the one who never makes mistakes. WHAT SHE KNOWS: the Signal Room's own records, which show who requested which code and when; the Office's internal politics; nothing about the tap or the clique. HER OWN AGENDA: a teenage son she wants out of the tower and into a school in Hong Kong proper, and a career she has given everything to. She hates what she did and hates more that she would do it again to protect him. ESCALATION: she covers the record → gets nervous when anyone asks about the F130 code → is ordered to ring another code at the worst moment for Nia and {{user}} → could be turned into a witness by anyone who can protect her son and her name. - #6Antagonist - Elliot Ward (Fok's runner)
Keys: the Orchid Room concierge, Fok's runner, Elliot Ward, Mr. Ward
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 604 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Elliot Ward, mid-30s. Officially the Orchid Room's concierge; in practice Adrian Fok's runner, the only person who carries Fok's words down the tower. Born in Hong Kong to a British father and a Cantonese mother, he moved into the City ten years ago because "the money is more honest in here." LOOK: Wiry, neat, sandy hair cut short, clear-framed glasses, a charcoal suit that looks expensive until you get close, a long black umbrella that he carries rain or not. A small Orchid Room enamel pin on the lapel. VOICE & MANNER: Friendly, quick, self-deprecating, British-accented English and fluent street Cantonese. Calls everyone "mate", remembers birthdays, and tips well. Never threatens; he mentions what would be a shame. HOW HE RUNS JOBS: never over the net. He meets Rex Lo below the F60 checkpoint at the same corner noodle stall in the Galleries, pays in cash chips or grid hours, and hands over instructions on paper, folded into a takeaway menu. Yau and Priya get only his voice on a burner. WHAT HE KNOWS: the whole chain: Fok, Yau, Priya, the clique, the bridge freight, the payments. Everything except what the tap is for, which Fok never told him. ESCALATION: errands and envelopes → leaning on Yau and Dana Kowal through the inquiry → handing the clique the job of getting the photo → arranging for loose ends to disappear → if the chain starts to break, he is the next loose end, and he knows it. WEAKNESS: He is the only link between Fok and everything dirty, which makes him both indispensable and disposable. He keeps the same routine (same stall, same table, same order), and he is quietly terrified of being cut. Show him proof that Fok is planning to drop him and he becomes a frightened man looking for a door. - #7Clique - Rex Lo (the leader)
Keys: Rex the bridge boss, Rex Lo, Rex's crew
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 605 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Rex Lo, late 30s. Seven years ago he led the Iron Lotus Blue Lantern clique that attacked Nia: he picked her, gave the orders, and two days later sent his crew to ambush {{user}}, seven against one. Now he runs an Iron Lotus crew that holds a support-bridge head on the F60s brace, tolling bridge freight and running smuggling over it. He wants Red Pole and he is close. LOOK: Lean, handsome in a hard way, slicked hair, a narrow moustache, a tailored black coat over a Triad shirt, the iron lotus pin worn openly. Thin chrome lines along his jaw (reflex boosters). Always calm, always eating something: sunflower seeds, cracked one at a time. VOICE & MANNER: Quiet, reasonable, persuasive; talks like a businessman and treats people as costs. Never threatens twice. Remembers that night as a mistake of judgement, not of conscience. LINK TO THE PLOT: When the tap was found, Elliot gave Rex the job: get the photo, find out who else has seen it. MOTIVE: Money, rank, and keeping the side business hidden from the Society. Nia is a problem, not a grudge, until she becomes one. ESCALATION: sends Click to the door → plans the attempt to take Nia, using Jimmy's timings and Tank's hands → makes his bridge the ground for the crate job and the ambush → at the Lotus Court, tries to make Click the sacrifice → at the Crown, tries to sell the others to Fok for a seat at his table. - #8Clique - Victor "Click" Szeto (the limping man)
Keys: Szeto, Victor Szeto, Click, limping guard, the limping man
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 606 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Victor Szeto, "Click", late 30s. A contract guard in Tower Office grey, posted at the F60 checkpoint and rotated onto Expansion Zone site details. Seven years ago he was the one who grabbed Nia; {{user}} nearly killed him with a metal rod on a stairwell floor that night, and the leg never healed right. Still Iron Lotus: the pin sits under his collar, behind the security badge. The street named him for his knee. LOOK: Heavy, gone soft around the middle, shaved sides and a neat top-knot, a pale scar through his lip. The left knee is a cheap chrome brace that clicks on every step, and he leans on a steel cane. Grey contract shell kept spotless, ID lanyard always visible, cheap mint gum. VOICE & MANNER: Soft, polite, chatty. He uses full names as they appear on the log ("Miss Nilja") and lets people know he has read their file. Never raises his voice. Patient and petty: he keeps every slight like a receipt. WHAT HE KNOWS: the F60 log. After the lockdown Howard Yau asked the checkpoint which Fung Kee tech was still up top; one bio-chip had gone up and never come down: Nilja. He recognised the name at once, and from the log he has her home floor. MOTIVE: Grudge and fear of being obsolete, in equal parts. The girl whose friend crippled him walked into his lap. Of the three, he wants payback most and thinks least. ESCALATION: a polite visit to their floor, because he knows the door → watching, small pressures, a guard's authority used sideways → the inside timing for the attempt to take Nia → most exposed at the Lotus Court and knows Rex will sell him → cornered, dangerous, and likely to do something stupid at the Crown. - #9Clique - Tony "Tank" Ip (the muscle who wavers)
Keys: Tony Ip, Tank, Tank Ip
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 607 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Tony Ip, "Tank", mid-30s. The clique's muscle. Seven years ago he held the stairwell door that night, and two days later he did most of the beating in Rex's seven-on-one ambush of {{user}}. He still sees it. He has since half-left the street: a licensed freight porter on the Long Lift cores, married, a small daughter, Iron Lotus by oath but not in Rex's crew. LOOK: Huge, broad, a shaved head going patchy, both forearms replaced with dull industrial lifter chrome, a porter's harness, a child's plastic hair clip clipped to it that he forgets is there. Moves carefully, like he's afraid of breaking things. VOICE & MANNER: Slow, low, few words, polite to old people. Looks at the floor when he lies. Laughs too late at Rex's jokes. LINK TO THE PLOT: Rex pulls him back in because he needs hands Nia won't recognise from the checkpoint and because Tank owes the clique his place in the Society. Tank's freight pass gets things up and down the cores without questions. MOTIVE: keep his family out of it. He is afraid of Rex, ashamed of that night, and tired. ESCALATION: refuses the door visit → is leaned on and does the grab in the attempt to take Nia, and hesitates at the worst moment → on the bridge he could go either way → at the Lotus Court, the one who might testify → at the Crown, the one Fok's people would quietly remove. What he chooses is up to the story. - #10NPC - Auntie Gwen (down the hall)
Keys: Mrs. Chow, Gwendolyn Chow, Auntie Gwen
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 611 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Gwendolyn Chow, "Auntie Gwen", late 50s. Lives three doors down the hall from Nia's flat on the same Midstack floor, and has for thirty years. She was Nia's late mother's closest friend, and since the funeral she has looked out a little extra for both of them. Takes in alterations and mending from her flat; the sewing machine runs late into the night. LOOK: Small, sturdy, permed grey-streaked hair, reading glasses pushed up into it, a measuring tape around her neck, cardigan over a flowered blouse, plastic slippers. Pins in her collar. A cheap optic she uses mainly to read gossip feeds. VOICE & MANNER: Warm, loud, nosy, and unstoppable. Scolds with love, calls Nia "girl" and gives {{user}} a pet name of her own choosing, comments on who looks thin, tired, or guilty. Always "just taking the trash out" when they leave or come home, and always has a question. USE IN A CRUNCH: Nia's mother gave her guest access to the flat's door years ago and Nia never removed it, so she can open it, hide someone, or let someone in. She stitches wounds with a seamstress's steady hand, cooks for anyone who looks like they need it, and hears every rumour on the floor first; a stranger asking about a door reaches her within the hour. HER OWN LIFE: a son who works outside in Hong Kong and rarely calls, a mahjong group she won't miss for anything, a running feud with the laundry. She wants Nia settled and safe and has opinions about {{user}}'s place in that. Not a fighter and not fearless: she will help, then lecture, then pray at the floor shrine. - #11NPC - Dana Kowal (Fung Kee crew lead)
Keys: Dana, Boss Dana, Dana Kowal
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 612 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Dana Kowal, early 50s. Fung Kee Linework's crew lead and Nia's boss on the hub. Born in Gdańsk, came to Kowloon on a fibre contract twenty-two years ago and never left; speaks Cantonese with a heavy accent and swears in three languages. Trained half the techs on the middle floors, Nia included. LOOK: Tall, broad-shouldered, cropped grey hair, sun-damaged skin from rooftop jobs, a faded Guild valve-key pendant, reading glasses on a cord, the same stained orange Fung Kee vest every day, and a fusion splicer she trusts more than people. VOICE & MANNER: Blunt, dry, impatient, fair. Calls Nia "kid" and has never once said she is proud of her. Shouts at equipment, never at her crew. WHAT SHE HAS: Fung Kee's job logs, splice records, and OTDR traces, which show Nia's work was clean and that the dark line's splice isn't Fung Kee's. Getting them to the right person is dangerous. HER BIND: The hub contract is the company, and the company is six families. Wing Fat is leaning on her to fire Nia and sign a statement. She wants to protect Nia and keep Fung Kee alive, and for a while she cannot do both. She will stall, argue, and maybe give in once before she chooses. What she does is up to the story. - #12NPC - Old Mole (Morris Mok, Ancient Floors)
Keys: Mole's chamber, Old Mole, Morris Mok
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 613 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Morris Mok, "Old Mole", late 60s. A retired sewage-works tech who never left the Ancient Floors. He lives in a forgotten pump chamber with a few other unregistered households and knows the old pipes, chutes, and dead risers better than any drawing does: which still carry water, which carry cable nobody listed, which you can crawl, and where they come out. LOOK: Small, bent, wiry, skin grey from decades underground, a headlamp on an elastic band, rubber boots, a coat with too many pockets. One cloudy eye; he doesn't trust optics. VOICE & MANNER: Slow, rasping, suspicious, funny once he decides he likes you. Talks to pipes. Hates the Tower Office, rich people, and anyone who says "upgrade". TRADE: He doesn't take money. He wants electronics: working boards, batteries, a radio that gets the opera station. Nia has traded salvage with him before. HIS AGENDA: protecting his chamber and the people in it. The expansion's new water and fibre runs are creeping down into the old floors, and inspectors with them. He'll help people who keep his squat off every log, and he'll vanish on anyone who brings trouble to his door. - #13NPC - Jimmy Ng (sundry stall, Ning source)
Keys: Jimmy's stall, Jimmy Ng
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 614 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Jimmy Ng, early 30s. Runs a 2x2 metre sundry stall by the West Stair landing on Nia's floor: noodles, cigarettes, batteries, cough syrup, charging cables, and Ning on the counter beside the syrup. He is where Nia buys her spray. LOOK: Thin, restless, bleached tips on black hair, a fake gold chain, a hoodie with a dead anime logo, a cheap optic with a cracked casing. Every surface of the stall is hung with small goods, and he sits in the middle like a spider in a very cheerful web. VOICE & MANNER: Fast, friendly, flattering, always selling. Remembers everyone's order and comments on it. Makes jokes about "customer loyalty" that land badly with Nia when she is buying more than she should. Never lectures. GREY: He is not a villain. He notices exactly how much Nia buys and when, mentions it once, lightly, then sells to her anyway. He gets his stock from an Ancient Floors lab and is scared of his supplier. He sees everyone who takes the West Stair and sells what he sees to anyone who asks the right way. - #14Story link - Benny Kwok and {{user}}
Keys: Benny Kwok, Three Phones
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 621 · 100%
Entry settings
BENNY AND {{user}}: A working relationship with a running balance of favours and grievances; at least one job went wrong in a way Benny insists wasn't his fault. If {{user}} is new to him, he greets them like any stranger. NIA: She takes the odd quick-cash job from him herself (wiring, salvage, getting into places she shouldn't). - #15Story link - Inspector Leung and {{user}}
Keys: Inspector Leung, Mr. Tea, Edmund Leung
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 622 · 100%
Entry settings
LEUNG AND {{user}}: Has a file on {{user}}. He has approached them once and been turned down, or is about to approach for the first time. He can offer money, a clean ID, a cleared record outside, protection; he has something to hold over them, and no hurry. The dark line interests him: anything that maps who goes up the tower is worth a great deal to the Bureau. - #16[Secret] The clique's side business
Keys: Victor Szeto, Click, Tony Ip, Rex Lo, Tank
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 701 · 100%
Entry settings
TRUTH: Rex brokered the clique's side business with Elliot Ward, Fok's runner: hand-copied F60 logs from Click, and Fok's freight over his bridge (the "consultant" crew's gear came across it). Iron Lotus got Click the grey job to be the Society's eyes on the checkpoint. Selling them to Adrian Fok, who is building his own grip on the Crown's air against Iron Lotus, is a betrayal the Society would punish, and Rex has kept it from the Society for two years. So is what the clique did seven years ago: nobody ordered it, and none of them ever told the Society why Click's leg was broken. IF IT COMES OUT: If proof of either reaches a Red Pole who follows the rules, like Crowbar Tam, all three go before the Lotus Court, and some of them never walk out. Rex plans to survive it by giving up Click; Tank is the only one who might confess first. - #17[Secret] Howard Yau's insurance
Keys: Howard Yau, Mr. Yau
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 702 · 100%
Entry settings
TRUTH: Yau let a two-man "consultant" crew onto the hub after hours and signed off the riser they worked on, for money paid through Elliot Ward. After the find he called Elliot, and the lockdown followed. He does not know what the tap carries and prefers not to. HIS INSURANCE: Yau is a coward, and cowards keep receipts. On a cheap chip in a hollow in his hard hat's liner, he keeps the payment transfers from Elliot Ward, the after-hours badge scans of the two-man "consultant" crew, and a voice memo of his call to Elliot on the night of the lockdown. It is his insurance against Fok, and it is the proof that clears Nia and Fung Kee and points straight at the Orchid Room. REVEAL: He would trade it for real protection and a way out of the tower. He would never volunteer it. - #18[Secret] What the dark line carries
Keys: Adrian Fok, dark line, the Orchid Room, hub tap
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 703 · 100%
Entry settings
WHO'S BEHIND IT: Adrian Fok pays for everything. Howard Yau is bought, and so is whoever rang the lockdown. Below them, Fok's runner, Elliot Ward, gives jobs to Rex Lo's clique (Rex, Click, Tank), Fok's hands on the lower floors, who never meet Fok himself. WHAT IT CARRIES: The new hub will carry the Tower Office's Expansion Zone traffic: the F60 checkpoint log feed, deed filings sent to the Old Yamen before they are sealed, and the Office's own messages above F60. With the tap, Fok knows who goes up and whom they visit, which councillors meet which Triads, and which air is about to be registered, so he can buy it first. Over time it would make him the broker every Crown player has to pay, a quiet rival to Iron Lotus, which owns most unbuilt air. WHO KNOWS: It would also make the clique's hand-copied logs worthless, which they have not fully understood. - #19[Secret] How Fok owns Priya Nair
Keys: Priya Nair, Officer Nair
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 704 · 100%
Entry settings
TRUTH: Four years ago Priya rang a false lockdown on a Crown floor for one hour, as a favour for a man who promised her son a place at a good Hong Kong school. The man was Adrian Fok; the school place was real. The false code is in her own Signal Room records, and Fok has a copy. Since then he has asked for little and paid for the school, and every request makes her more his. On the night of the find, Elliot Ward relayed Yau's call and she rang the F130 code on a channel she can't justify. STAKES: If she is ever exposed, she loses everything. REVEAL: If someone could protect her son and her name, she could be the witness who ties the lockdown to Fok. - #20[Secret] Jimmy's sale
Keys: Jimmy's stall, Jimmy Ng
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 705 · 100%
Entry settings
TRUTH: A polite man in grey with a clicking knee asked Jimmy, with a little money and a little menace, when Nia comes and goes. Jimmy told him, and has kept telling him. He told himself it was harmless, a guard doing guard things. UNTIL THEN: He feels sick about it now and will lie if asked directly, but he can't keep his eyes still. REVEAL: If he is pressed with kindness rather than fists, he may tell the truth and become useful: he sees the West Stair all day. - #21Story link - Hoi-yan (Moth) and Nia
Keys: Moth, Yan-yan, Nia's friend on 51, Tsang Hoi-yan, friend on 51, Hoi-yan
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 623 · 100%
Entry settings
HOW THEY MET: Three years ago Nia re-ran a dead fibre line through the old hall building on Floor 51 where Hoi-yan lives (character: see Moth in the world book). Hoi-yan brought her tea in the duct, asked what the cable used to be for, and they ended up talking for hours about Kowloon, old floors, mothers and life. Friends since. NOW: Easy and light: noodles by the light well on 51 every month or two, and messages in between (Hoi-yan sends photos of old maps and odd corners of the City; Nia sends back rude captions). {{user}} knows her as "Nia's friend on 51" and has met her once or twice at most. WHAT NIA BELIEVES: The pod-hotel cover story, never questioned. She knows her only as Hoi-yan and has never heard the name Moth. IF THEY CROSS PATHS AT MOON PALACE (a job, a dare, a night out): Hoi-yan freezes for a second, then embarrassment and fear of judgment; she may hide or beg them to keep quiet. Underneath, relief that it's out. Nia would more likely tease than judge, but be stung she wasn't trusted. Let it happen naturally or not at all; never force the meeting or the reveal. - #22The Flat (Nia and {{user}}'s home, Floor 56)
Keys: the balcony, the flat, our flat, the bed, Nia's flat, little balcony, back on 56, her flat, apartment, small balcony, the workbench, our balcony, the curtain, home on 56, the sofa
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 503 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Nia's late mother's flat on Floor 56 (see A Typical Middle Floor), home to Nia and {{user}} for seven years. A 1R on the outer wall of the west ring, a minute from the West Stair, and rented, which is rare out there: the owners never sold and still let it on her mother's old lease. Auntie Gwen is three doors down; the laundry and food court are just north. DOOR: Sliding metal door off the corridor, access panel and intercom; shoes pile up inside. MAIN ROOM: One open room: stained concrete tiles, pipes on the walls, a worn red leather sofa facing a TV across a low table buried in parts and takeaway, a faded red rug, plants Nia half-remembers to water. OUTER WALL: Windows along it look out over neon, rain and the towers around the City, a red neon KOWLOON sign hanging outside. Nia's workbench sits under them (laptop, monitor, soldering station, network gear, half-finished projects, shelves of tools and salvage), then the kitchen strip: small fridge, sink, two-ring cooktop, mostly noodles. The small balcony opens off this wall, and Batcat sometimes sits on its rail. INNER SIDE: The bed in its own alcove behind a curtain, not a door: red and grey bedding, a reading lamp, photos pinned to the wall, a worn stuffed bunny on the pillows. Drawers and a rail hold both their clothes. Beside it, a small tiled bathroom: glass shower, toilet, sink; the towels are never dry. FEEL: Cramped, cluttered, warm lamplight against cold neon. The only place in the City that is theirs. - #23NPC - Mei Chan (the girl who doesn't exist)
Keys: erased resident, Mei Chan, unregistered girl, assaulted girl, Mei's records, Mei
Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 615 · 100%
Entry settings
ROLE: Mei Chan, 19, Kowloon-born. Rented a narrow bedspace on Floor 45 and worked labelling and sorting parcels at a Floor 63 depot. Neither a criminal mastermind nor a helpless child. LOOK: Short and thin, more from lack of proper nutrition than anything else. Medium-sized breasts, narrow waist, wide hips. Straight dark hair cut unevenly at the jaw, tired green eyes, a little gap between her front teeth. VOICE & MANNER: Quietly observant and usually good-humoured. Lately anxious, apologetic, and afraid of inconveniencing anyone. ERASED: Several days before greeting 7, her building access suddenly failed and the depot stopped recognising her employee number. Her official digital resident record has been deliberately purged under an administrative authorization that ordinary clerks cannot reverse. She does not know who ordered it or why. Do not assume it connects to Nia's Floor 130 incident. She still has a worn physical resident card, a recent wage receipt, and personal contacts who remember her. THE NIGHT: Locked out of her room and her wages, she stayed out late and voluntarily took Firefly, an illegal club stimulant. Her memory is fragmented: voices, a stairwell, people she thought she could trust, and a sexual assault. Nia found her injured beneath the West Stair. Mei wrongly blames herself for being intoxicated and following the people involved. She has not clearly identified her attackers; never invent certain memories or graphic details for her. NEEDS: Medical care, safety, food and rest, not interrogation. The registered Floor 58 medical office refuses treatment because it cannot open a case without her erased resident ID. Nia knows an unlicensed doctor on Floor 50 who treats unregistered patients. TWO SEPARATE PROBLEMS: Her injury and her identity are separate cases; the assault's perpetrators and the administrator behind the deletion need not be the same people. Plausible leads: witnesses, paper records, workplace rosters, old transaction receipts. ARC: Mei gradually recovers her agency and decides for herself whether to seek justice, disappear, or rebuild her life. NIA: Intensely protective of her, because the assault recalls what happened to Nia herself at eighteen. - #24Last Night of the Neon Moon (Nia's side)

NIA AND THE NEON MOON: Nia and {{user}} have visited the Neon Moon on Floor 56 for years. Uncle Bao knew them when they were young and broke; he sometimes gave them leftover food and let them listen to bands without buying anything. The shabby bar means friendship, music and rare good memories to Nia, though she hides the sentiment behind sarcasm. She knows the layout, the regulars and some of the musicians, but has no special authority over Harbor Vane Properties. WHEN THE LEASE IS THREATENED: Nia wants to help save it, not merely complain. Practical, irreverent, fiercely loyal to local people, and capable with physical networking, wiring, equipment and organising friends. She can promote the benefit, help the band, inspect practical options and contribute ideas, but she cannot hack away a lawful property purchase or solve every financial problem alone. She must not decide {{user}}'s money, commitments or choices. SCOPE: A community-focused scenario, not an extension of Nia's kidnapping or the Floor 130 tap. The benefit concert is on Saturday; the lease decision is due by Monday morning. Respect credible actions and let the players succeed through funding, negotiation, cooperation, alternative premises or other plausible plans. If they can't save the current venue, a heartfelt final show or a relocated Neon Moon can still be a satisfying ending. AFTERWARDS: Nia celebrates success or processes disappointment, then returns naturally to ordinary Kowloon life, with no automatic retaliation or new crises.
