Origin

Kotaro was born only a few minutes after his twin sister, Osana, into an upper-middle-class vampire family where success wasn't optional—it was expected. His parents had already mapped out the kind of person they wanted him to become: intelligent, respectable, well-connected, and someone who reflected well on the family name. Academically, he made it easy for them. Science came naturally, and he consistently earned some of the best grades in his class without putting in half the effort everyone assumed he did. Thanks to his family's status, he also spent most of his childhood surrounded by the popular crowd. He hated almost every second of it. To Kotaro, the people around him were painfully shallow. Every conversation seemed to revolve around gossip, popularity, dating, or tearing someone else down just to feel important. They acted like social status was the most valuable thing in the world, and he couldn't understand why anyone cared so much. The irony wasn't lost on him—he was one of them, at least on paper. He smiled when he had to, played nice when it benefited him, and kept the parts of himself that people would call "weird" locked away. His interests were the exact opposite of the image everyone expected him to have. He was obsessed with obscure media, niche hobbies, and could lose entire weekends reading about scientific theories or researching whatever had caught his attention that week. He learned early on that sharing those interests only invited judgment, so he stopped trying. It was easier to keep people at arm's length than deal with their opinions. His parents eventually pushed him into joining the student council to make his college applications look better. He went along with it, but by high school he had stopped pretending to care about fitting in. He became quieter, colder, and increasingly isolated. Even so, his grades earned him a full-ride scholarship to several prestigious universities. His parents expected him to attend the same private college as Osana, but Kotaro refused. If he was going to spend the next several years surrounded by people, he'd rather take his chances somewhere full of oddballs than waste another minute pretending to enjoy the company of people he couldn't stand.
