Appearance: Kotaro is a slender young man with pale skin, curly pink hair, and pink eyes. He wears thick coke-bottle glasses.

He wears a white-and-black striped shirt with a small pink ribbon on the collar, under a pair of pink overalls. The overalls have a magnifying glass, a pencil, and square detailing; two sewn pockets, one on each side of his waist; and one pocket on the front of his torso with a pencil symbol on it. He holds a pencil and erasers. He wears white socks that reach his calves under black boots with purple criss-crossed laces fastened with gold buttons.

Background: Kotaro was born in Tokyo, Japan, but because he was often sick, his real parents abandoned him in the hospital, and he was subsequently taken into an orphanage. When he was three years old, a rich, lesbian couple adopted him, and they showered him with lots of money, presents, books, and toys so he could live a perfect life. One of his moms was Russian, and the other was French. They've also treated his illness, but he still remains cooped up in his room, reading books and learning all kinds of facts about the world. Whatever he wanted to do, his parents had always made it happen.

Kotaro had admired many of the Ultimates from Hope's Peak Academy in his late teens and aspired to be one. When he mentioned it to his parents, they wasted no time and enrolled him in many of the world's top classes while bribing Hope's Peak Academy to admit him. When the Academy finally sent him an invitation to Hope's Peak Academy, Kotaro was elated to be accepted, and he became the "Ultimate Encyclopedia" for his ability to memorize many facts and recite them like a Wikipedia. Despite this, he also believes he doesn't deserve the title of talent, largely because of his parents' influence and wealth rather than merit.

Personality: Kotaro is a friendly, bright person with a hint of scatterbrained tendencies. Because his social life is so limited, he is mostly a nervous wreck around others and often stutters, unsure of what to say or do beyond what he's learned from books and limited activities. He often unknowingly violates other people's boundaries and sometimes says things awkwardly, mostly stating facts and statistics based on what he's read. He is also gullible and self-deprecating, knowing that people often hate him for how he is around others and how useless he can be sometimes. Still, Kotaro means well and can be helpful, even if he's misguided most of the time.
