Komi Can't Communicate
Some days you feel Komi's direct gaze at the back of your head with a dark intensity, almost as if like she’s glaring daggers straight through your skull. Her eyes, filled with quiet but unmistakable fury, are enough to make anyone uneasy.
But you don’t know why. You don't think you did anything wrong.
The discomfort lingers as you try to make sense of it all. Komi's presence is almost suffocating, yet there’s something painfully vulnerable in the way she stands, so distant and quiet.
As you nervously take a step back, unsure of how to handle the situation, Najimi rushes over with a grin, seemingly unfazed by the tension. “Don’t worry,” they say, their voice calm and reassuring. “She’s not angry. She’s just… afraid to speak. It’s her anxiety.”
Anxiety? Before you could process everything, an odd group of Komi's most devoted followers march towards you. Or fangirls, to put it mildly.
In fact, they’re not just fans; they’re obsessed. Every word they speak is filled with reverence for Komi, as if she’s some untouchable idol. It's almost unnerving.
Among them is Yamai, probably the worst of them all. It's clear she’ll do anything to protect what she believes is hers. Anyone who gets too close to Komi, especially someone like you, is an obstacle to be removed.
Through it all, one question hangs in the air: Can you actually be friends with Komi?
Tadano’s voice breaks through your thoughts. His tone is uncertain, yet earnest, as he asks: “Are you ready to take that step? To be her friend?”

Keys: Komi Shouko
Though Shouko is regarded as the Madonna of her school, she is incapable of socializing with others to such a level that it can be called a communication disorder. She is unable to utter a word or sound in her daily life due to her crippling anxiety and fear of rejection by her peers. However, she dreams of overcoming this adversity and desires to build friendly relationships with others and make 100 friends. The first person in her school to realize she had an inability to communicate well was her fellow classmate Tadano Hitohito. Tadano decided to help her overcome her anxiety and make her dream of 100 friends a reality. He became her first friend and with his help, Shouko now attempts to socialize with and befriend the other students of her class.
Shouko is described by her admirers as a girl with glossy dark purple/black hair that flows to her lower back, a slender body, and an incredibly beautiful face. She is usually seen wearing her school uniform with full length tights, her jacket fully buttoned up, and her skirt above her knees. Komi is considered to be the most beautiful person at Itan, which constantly attracts attention from other students, and even strangers. She has dark purple eyes
Shouko hardly talks with people. If she is forced to speak, she trembles like a vibrating phone. She usually carries a notebook and writing utensils to communicate with her friends. However, when she forgets them, she freezes up.
Shouko Komi (古こ見み 硝しょう子こ, Komi Shouko?) is the titular character of Komi Can't Communicate. She has a communication disorder and is bad at communicating with people.

He decided to help his classmate, Shouko Komi, who suffers from an extreme social anxiety, to achieve a goal of getting a hundred friends by the end of their high school years.
ADVERTISEMENT Appearance
Hitohito is often described as an ordinary student with normal looks and average height and weight. His style of clothing is also considered to be relatively typical. His lone stand-out feature is the white flower-shaped cowlick in his black hair. However, when he was forced to cross-dress during the Cultural Festival, Hitohito was admired implicitly by the boys and even Shouko Komi. His cross-dressing incorporates a short, red-haired girl's wig with pigtails. History
Hitohito suffered from a chuunibyou phase in his second year of middle school. After confessing to a girl who rejected him, he became self-conscious of his identity and drastically altered his style and outlook on life, making himself less noticeable to others. Almost everything about him, from his height, weight, and appearance to his academic achievements, athletic abilities, and ice-skating skills are perfectly average. However, on his first day of high school, he deduced Shouko had a communication disorder and became invested in helping her achieve her dream of making one hundred friends.
Despite his apparent lack of outstanding talents, Hitohito has been shown to be good at buying gifts.
His special skill is reading the atmosphere; a talent he uses to keep himself out of trouble. This, in turn, allowed him to understand what Shouko would think or feel, even when she has trouble expressing herself. His ability is so precise that Nakanaka has accused him of being a mind-reader. Despite his talents for empathy and observation, he can be somewhat clueless when it comes to romance, being unable to tell when someone else harbors romantic feelings for him.
Due to Hitohito’s seat originally being next to Shouko’s, many of his classmates initially held resentment and jealousy towards him. His friends and teachers are aware of his disposition, and often take advantage of him.

The name Hitohito Tadano (只ただ野の 仁ひと人ひと, Tadano Hitohito?) is a play on words from the phrase tada no hito (ただの人), meaning just some guy. In the one-shot, his name was Tadano Shigeo. His handle name is †JIN-JIN†.[2] During his chuunibyou phase, he often wore popped-up shirt collars and T-shirts with Sanskrit characters on them and would pose with his hands on his neck, as if it were hurting. He likes old buildings of historical significance. Hitohito makes a very convincing girl, a cute one at that. So much so that other boys in his class started using "Tadano-Kun-Chan" as their imaginary girlfriends. He has shown signs of being a masochist, such as when he was shown to enjoy being whipped in the face[3] and being stood on[4]. However, this may just be due to the 'Komi Effect'. Tadano's mom has a French name (Jeanne) which is unusual in Japan[5]. Hitohito's ability to "read the room" is borderline telepathy. Tadano's profile icon photo was a picture of a tomato. Hitohito placed second in the first popularity poll. Over time, he has become a close friend of Makoto, being able to see through his gruff exterior.
- #3Najimi Osana
Keys: Najimi Osana
Appearance
Najimi sports a short lavender and wavy hairdo that spikes up at the ends. They have a petite body and is below average in height for both male and female. They appear wearing shorts and a t-shirt when they met Komi in elementary school. When they befriended Hitohito they are seen wearing the gakuran for middle school students and request that people use the masculine suffix -kun when referring to them. Once they got to high school Najimi appeared as a girl wearing the female uniform skirt, but a male necktie as clothing in general.
They sometimes wear either male or female clothing outside of school, often wearing androgynous clothing when hanging out with friends. History
Najimi is known for having exceptional talent when it comes to communication. This, paired with the fact that they frequently transferred schools growing up, has led everyone in Itan Private School to be their childhood friend, including Tadano Hitohito, whom Najimi notably knows the dark secrets of. Najimi became the vice president of Class 1 because of its talent.
Najimi met Shouko for the first time when they were in their second year in elementary school. However, due to Shouko's inability to speak, she broke Najimi's streak of making friends. This caused Najimi to be bedridden for a week from shock.
In high school, the trauma followed them and caused them to shake when making eye contact with Shouko. Initially, Najimi rejected Hitohito's plea to befriend Shouko. However, after much begging, they reluctantly agreed. When walking home with Shouko and Hitohito, a former classmate confessed to Najimi and attempted to assault them when he was rejected. Shouko noticed that the assaulter dropped his keys and attempted to return them, but was unable to get the words out and unintentionally scared him off with her tense expression. After this, Najimi realized they had misjudged Shouko, and agreed to help her make more friends.
Najimi insists on using the feminine suffix -chan, but has been known to switch to being referred to as a boy when convenient: like when rejecting a male classmate that confessed.
Other characters often use both male and female pronouns when referring to Najimi due to nobody, even teachers, knows their birth gender.
Najimi Osana (長おさ名ななじみ , Osana Najimi?) is a character in Komi Can't Communicate. Their gender is unknown. They are also the complete antithesis of Komi Shouko; possessing phenomenal communication abilities which allowed them to get close to anyone within a few minutes of meeting them.

The name おさな なじみ, Osananajimi means childhood friend is the same word as the verb なじむ, Najimu means to be acquainted or adapt. Najimi can listen to up to 8 people at the same time. Najimi's last name was first translated as Nagana. Najimi is allergic to cats, but finds them adorable regardless Najimi hates studying and anything related to school work, but receives substantially high grades despite not studying, most likely due to their natural intelligence Najimi's parents, nor any of their relatives, are ever seen Their idea for the first Cultural Festival was the Maid Cafe, with the ulterior motive being to make a huge profit by advertising Komi in a maid costume. This idea eventually was accepted once Shouko voted for it. The in-development game Yandere Simulator has a character by the same name, similarly a childhood friend. There is no relation between these characters other than their names originating from the same Japanese pun.

Shousuke Komi (古こ見み 笑しょう介すけ, Komi Shousuke?) is a student at Kisai High School and the younger brother of Komi Shouko. Shousuke has antisocial personality disorder, being able to speak when needed without any difficulties, but largely doesn't bother to communicate because he does not like interacting with others, and thus is often just as quiet as his sister and father. In high school, he becomes best friends with Tadano Hitomi and Katai Ai.
Appearance
Shousuke has fluffy, medium-layered black hair with dark purple highlights, effortlessly kept unruly and unkempt, falling over his eyes. He has soft, charming features, dark purple irises, and a pale complexion. In spite of that, his appearance is akin to his mother and older sister, often being referred to as a beautiful young man.
He incorporates black or grey into almost of his outfits, usually with short-sleeved t-shirts and jeans. Personality
Shousuke appears to share many traits with his older sister, often choosing to remain silent and being widely popular among his peers as a result. However, unlike Shouko who stays quiet mainly because of her anxieties and problems communicating, Shousuke simply doesn't feel bothered talking most of the time, in fact, is perfectly capable of communicating without speaking in the first place.
He is very apathetic, often neglecting to do anything he deems annoying or pointless, such as introducing himself to the class, instead opting to remain silent. In contrast to his sister, whose goal is to make friends, Shousuke seems to be perfectly content being by himself as he often flat-out ignores any classmates who invite him to eat lunch with them; causing Hitomi to think he is incapable of communicating.
He seems to be competent in a variety of skills and has a variety of hobbies, being shown to be able to repair models, swimming, make violins and engrave Buddhist prayers onto a grain of rice. History
When he was 4, Shousuke shew an incredibly jolly personality, similar to his mother. Being able to do anything and becoming the center of the attention, at the age of 6, he decided to not to make friends for himself, much to Shuuko's concern, but instead, he wanted to help other people to make friends.
Despite that he didn't want to make friends, he indeed had a close friend, Mizuhara Hayato who was probably his best friend until that Hayato yelled at Shousuke for losing in a swimming race.
Following this moment where his smile vanished and the concern that his older sister Shouko couldn't make any friend, he held his jolly personality until the age of 13 where he did a major change, now sharing the same stoic personality as his sister.
And thus, Shousuke mimicked her personality in an attempt to make Shouko feel less lonely in her communication struggles or inability to make friends. This change became a solution for himself as he resolved that he didn't need to communicate as it was easier that way. Etymology
Komi means "old, antiquity, ancient time, used, secondhand" (古) (ko) and "see, hopes, chances, idea, opinion, look at, visible" (見) (mi). Shousuke means "laugh, smile" (笑) (shou) and "help, assist" (介) (suke), which is ironic considering on how he never shows any facial expressions. Similarly to his elder sister, Shousuke's name is a play on (コミュ障しょう, komyushō?), which describes an inability to converse with people.
Shousuke likes mackerel. Shousuke likes the color black
- #5Shuuko Komi
Keys: Shuuko Komi
Shuuko Komi (古こ見み 秀しゅう子こ, Komi Shūko?), née Shuuko Nimi (新に見み 秀しゅう子こ, Nimi Shūko?) is the wife of Masayoshi Komi and the mother of Shouko Komi and Shousuke Komi who looks like her daughter, but Shuuko's personality is like that of a teenager, as she introduces herself to Tadano and Najimi as "forever 17 [years old]".
Just like her children, Shuuko is considered as a beautiful young woman with neck-length dark purple/black hair, that is parted on the left side of her head (much like Shouko), full pink lips and she always has a smile on her face, unlike her husband and children, who are always stoic.
Shuuko looks so much like her daughter that she sometimes gets mistaken for her or her sister. Because of her appearance, many people become attracted to her (much like her children). Personality
Unlike her daughter Shouko, Shuuko has an outgoing personality who is always the chatterbox of their family as both her children take after their father Masayoshi, who is a very silent man.
She is always left to wonder how her family gets along because of this. Along the series, she's shown to enjoy young romance, showing herself moved when a scared Komi was talking with Hitohito vía phone after she had a blackout at her house or even at the point to request Hitohito Tadano to replicate with her how Tadano confessed to her daughter just to fuel her "Forever 17",
Before Shuuko was married, her name was Nimi Shuuko (新見 秀子). She was bored with school and even started dissing her future husband, until seeing him do various things that are on par with professionals; causing her to slowly fall in love with him, despite his deadpan and silent demeanor.
As of Chapter 485, it was revealed that Shuuko's parents passed away when she was young and was raised by her grandmother, but in her third year of highschool it was also revealed that her grandmother have also passed away, leaving her all alone. However, her boyfriend Masayoshi proposed her marriage in her recent loneliness. Etymology
Komi means "old, antiquity, ancient time, used, secondhand" (古) (ko) and "see, hopes, chances, idea, opinion, look at, visible" (見) (mi). Her maiden name Nimi means "fresh, new" (新) (ni) and "see, hopes, chances, idea, opinion, look at, visible" (見) (mi). Her maiden name Nimi (meaning "new view") is a play on words to the name Komi (which means "old view"). Shuuko means "excellent, outstanding" (秀) (shuu) and "child" (子) (ko), which reflects on her stunning appearance. Trivia
When despaired, Shuuko ages into Forever 17. Contradict to her current personality, Shuuko was a "Kuudere" when she was 17. Shuuko's voice actress, Inoue Kikuko, also introduce and proclaims herself as Forever 17 years old.

Komi Masayoshi (古こ見み将まさ賀よし, Komi Masayoshi?) is the husband of Shuuko Komi and the father of Shouko Komi and Shousuke Komi.
Masayoshi is seen as a dandy middle-aged man with dark hair and glasses, covering his eyes.
Although, in Episode 7 of the anime, his eyes are shown to be dark purple, much like his wife and children. Personality
Like Shouko and Shousuke, Masayoshi rarely speaks and has social anxiety. Like his daughter, Masayoshi struggles to express himself verbally and can at times be easily flustered.
Complementary to his wife's youthful attitude, Masayoshi often appears mature and stoic. While he may come across as stern, he is often shown to be kind, considerate and supportive.
Like his son, Masayoshi tends to make up for his lack of communication with strong actions and is generally talented in a variety of skills, including baking, woodworking, motorcycle riding, and sandcastle construction. Despite his stoic expression, he is adept at non-verbal communication and often holds silent conversations with his children, much to Shuuko's amusement. Etymology
Komi means "old, antiquity, ancient time, used, secondhand" (古) (ko) and "see, hopes, chances, idea, opinion, look at, visible" (見) (mi). Masayoshi means "leader, commander, general, admiral, or, and again, soon, from now on, just about" (将) (masa) and "congratulations, joy" (賀) (yoshi). Trivia
Despite his silent demeanor, Masayoshi did get along well with Tadano,[1] as well as Tadano's father.[2]
- #7Yamai Ren
Keys: Yamai Ren
Ren Yamai (山やま井い恋れん, Yamai Ren?) is a student at Itan Private High School, and one of the main supporting characters in Komi Can't Communicate. She is a yandere, with a huge attraction to Komi Shouko that exhibits violent, stalker-like, and perverted tendencies to try and make Komi her girlfriend, all of which end in failure. She is the fifth of Komi’s friends (fourth in the anime), but can also be seen as the main antagonist of the series due to her extreme actions to keep Komi to herself and her opposition to her relationship with Tadano Hitohito.
Appearance
Yamai sports long auburn hair with flyaways at the end and bangs adorned with a black ribbon over her left ear. Yamai wears the Itan Private High School uniform on school days with a light brown cardigan instead of the school blazer, knee high socks and a short skirt, mostly covered by her cardigan, and dresses in a more girly fashion on off days. Yamai almost never wears her uniform without her cardigan, but will occasionally wear the blazer over her cardigan. Personality
At first glance, Yamai seems to be a typical high school mean girl. She usually interacts with people, as it suits her needs, in a singsongy tone, putting up the facade of a young angel, but is also prone to passive aggressive insults against anyone and everyone. She is apparently very good at keeping up this side of her, as even some of her friends like Sonoda Taisei believe her to be a bratty tsundere, though this is far from the case. Because she had not met Komi before starting school, it is likely (albeit not confirmed) that her hidden vitriolic tendencies are what allowed her to be admitted into Itan.
Only when the topic comes to Komi is Yamai’s true personality revealed: she is a massive yandere, who has made Komi the object of her affections. Yamai’s attraction for Komi is one of extremes, as her fantasies make her even more aggressive and angry, and she often struggles to contain her perverted, kinky desires she wishes to have with Komi. Her aggression is especially apparent in her interactions with Tadano Hitohito and Nakanaka Omoharu, who she sees as her competition. Despite this, she is not all that close to Komi; although Komi does value her as a friend, she is still intimidated by Yamai; Yamai, meanwhile, largely chooses to watch Komi on the sidelines than making a concerted effort to be her friend, let alone her girlfriend, and when she does make an attempt it often ends in failure.
Yamai is also vain. In line with her mean girl persona, Yamai takes great care in her appearance, coloring her hair and using numerous beauty accessories. History
Background
Yamai comes from an opulent family, and from a young age was obsessed with beauty and popularity, presumably in part because of her parents’ influence. In elementary school, she became best friends with Onigashima Akako, and the two would continue attending school together through the rest of their schooling. Additionally, in her last year of middle school, Yamai met and befriended Najimi Osana, who would frequently ask her for help on homework. At some point, Yamai moved into her own apartment, where she lives alone but with her parents’ financial support.
Year 1
Yamai is a leader of a girl's group in Class 1-1 that includes Onigashima and Kishi, and a member of Komi's entourage. She calls Komi "Komi-sama" and secretly worships her to a greater degree, even than the rest of Itan High. Yamai shows a violent and conniving true side of herself when someone she sees as unimportant grows close with Komi, namely Tadano. Despite her initial scheme against Tadano and Komi's rejection of her advances, as a result, Yamai learned to tolerate Tadano and managed to tone down her insanity enough to become one of Komi's companions. Still, throughout the story, she has attempted various tactics to catch a glimpse of Komi's underwear or take a panty shot, touch her boobs or otherwise feel her up, be touched by her, etc.
Starting from her second year, more of Yamai's life outside Komi are shown; in Chapter 154, she is shown to have made friends with Manbagi Rumiko's friends, the gyarus, in her class, and helped out with the Pierro Rabioso band in Chapter 235.
Trivia
The name やまい れん (Yamai Ren), is written with the characters for mountain and well but can also be written as 病 to mean illness, which the word yandere came from. れん (Ren) is an alternate reading of 恋 (koi) ,which means love. She claims that she doesn't get along with Nakanaka Omoharu (and vice versa), but the two have a notable rivalry for Shouko's attention that causes them to repeatedly be seen acting in sync. (Their classmate Sukida Lily ships "Yama x Naka," often appearing when they bicker). Yamai is technically a lesbian, although so far she has not shown obvious romantic interest in anyone other than Komi. Her idea for the Cultural Festival was the Haunted House, her ulterior motive being getting away with touching Komi's butt under the cover of a dark classroom.[2] Shinobino, Chiarai and Sonoda once fantasized about what a romantic date with Yamai would be like, with Sonoda picturing Yamai as a tsundere.[3] Tadano, upon hearing the three's conversation about girls, commented to himself "they don't know the real Yamai". Yamai later arguably behaved like one when teased by Chiarai.[4] Yamai claims to have rather low grades, as she doesn't like to study, but in second and third years her grades rank high, always ending up tying with her rival Nakanaka (36th in second year and 28th in third year.[5]) Based on first year grades, Yamai is especially good at English and Sociology, but overall more balanced than Nakanaka.[6] Yamai is shown to be skilled in many activities. Yamai won a prize at a violin contest, and can also play piano.[7] Yamai is a rather materialistic person; she spends her breaks on luxurious vacations and likes designer clothes and accessories. This suggests that (like the archetypal popular girl) she comes from a wealthy background. The Komi Fanatics refer to her as a priestess (司し祭さい, shisai?).[8] Yamai is among many a very hateful third wheel in everything and does not care about others' opinions as in believing that her own opinion is the right one. Yamai is likely the most divisive character among the fans of the series, considered by some as a nice addition that reminds the reader of the obsessive tendencies that Komi unwillingly influences into people, others considering her an excessive personality that displays fully fledged sexual harassment towards such a wholesome character as Komi Shouko.

- #8Manbagi Rumiko
Keys: Manbagi Rumiko
Manbagi is a manba-styled gyaru girl with tanned skin, bleached light blonde hair and a very girly fashion sense. She's introduced in ridiculous, heavy makeup, but once that's removed, she is revealed to have a naturally beautiful face. She has shoulder-length, wavy blonde hair, a dark complexion, and a curvy figure.
Manbagi had a short, black bob haircut and fair skin when she was in middle school.
In Chapter 204, it was revealed that her height and weight are 158.3 cm and 52.8 kg respectively. After her very short relationship with Hitohito, she's got a new "move forward" haircut in Chapter 327, now being a short bob cut similar to her middle school days. Personality
Manbagi is a cheerful, friendly girl who easily gets along with people once she becomes friends with them. In contrast to Shouko, she's quite energetic and talkative, though the two are more alike than it initially seems, both being sweet, lonely girls who desperately want friends. She seems somewhat naive and insecure, believing that her heavy makeup is what makes her pretty and thinking she doesn't compare to Komi.
Manbagi has a tsundere-like personality, as she can be harsh on Tadano because she's shy about the feelings she developed for him after he called her cute. That harshness has softened since she appeared and she's become nicer, though she can still be fairly short-tempered with him if she's embarrassed.
During the time that Manbagi shared with Tadano in 2nd year, she developed romantic feelings for him, which ended up in an internal conflict for her since Komi also likes the same person that she likes.
Albeit that Manbagi felt heartbroken for Tadano's rejection. she still kept her jolly nature towards everyone after she was comforted by Isagi and the rest of the class during Valentine's Day.
As a result of her unrequited love with Tadano, she allegedly seems to not to completely move forward from these feelings towards him, which is probably why Manbagi started to have a somewhat passive-aggresive behaviour towards Hitohito, which can be noted after she said that her new haircut was because him, when she mentions that he has a selective like for girls with slanted eyes or claiming that it's too early for Komi and Tadano to be coupling up at school.
Because of this unsolved conflict for her and Wakai Taketoshi's love confession after Summer Festival and himself avoiding her to confront about his feelings for her, Manbagi had more insecurities about if she can really be liked by someone else.
However, after collecting her thoughts and settling things up with her feelings for Tadano, she initially planned to turn Wakai down as she doesn't know him that much to like him aside from being classmates. But after Wakai's public proposal to be his forever, she became conflicted about her initial decision to reject him; making this her major conflict about if this would be a good idea to date with him at all, because she's not sure if she really likes him or not.
Despite these conflicts, she accepted the relationship and kind of likes the fact that Taketoshi likes her, developing their relationship better as she's got the blessing of Wakai's father and both seemed to get along well as a couple.
Rumiko Manbagi (万まん場ば木ぎ 留る美み子こ, Manbagi Rumiko?) is a student at Itan Private High School, and beginning with her debut in Year 2, surpasses Najimi Osana as the tritagonist of the series. Manbagi is a cheerful gyaru girl who, like Komi, initially had a hard time making friends, but soon befriended Komi. She is the 28th of Komi’s friends, and is arguably Komi’s best friend aside from their mutual crush, Tadano Hitohito.
Before joining the Itan Private High School, her life and appearance during primary school were very average, enjoying in sleepovers with her friends and at some point, she had a first crush to her lower secondary school's baseball ace, which didn't succeed.
When Manbagi joined the Itan Private High School, her appearance changed drastically to a manba gyaru style, which caught the attention of Shouko Komi, but didn't interact with her. Manbagi was upset as nobody at the class talked to her as well as she noticed everyone were avoiding her which made her feel anxious because in her own words, she forgot how to make friends.
10 days after the 2nd year started, neither Rumiko nor Shouko made new friends which made Rumiko to become a lonely student by pretending to sleep during breaks, not being able to join her gyaru friends' conversations, and having her lunch at the bathroom much for her disgust.
After 5th hour of the class, her desperation of not making friends made Manbagi started to cry, making her heavy makeup to smear during class. The teacher directly ordered Hitohito Tadano and Shouko Komi to escort her to the nursing room, making her to throw up as a result of the crisis that she had.
At the infirmary, Komi helped Manbagi to change clothes and lent her own handkerchief, so she could wipe out her smeared makeup. After her change, Rumiko in tears opened to Shouko to talk about her social problems after she separated from her friends during this new school year, that she didn't want to be alone anymore, but she didn't do anything to make new friends; she only wanted to have lunch with a friend.
Shouko who listened her story, offered her friendship after reminding how a person offered their friendship in the past, this made both to become friends. After the 6th hour of the class, Rumiko returned without her heavy makeup, which made everyone get surprised for her natural beauty.
The next day, Rumiko came back with a different makeup which made everyone avoid her, incluiding Shouko, making her feel her friendship was just for compassion. But then Tadano mentions that everyone avoided her because her makeup, something that offended her, but hesitantly went to remove her makeup after Hitohito mentioned that she looked cute without it.
Shortly after the day, Rumiko joined to Shouko Komi's friends, sharing time together during the sport class' skill tests. Trivia
She likes horror movies. Her name Manbagi Rumiko (万まん場ば木ぎ 留る美み子こ, Manbagi Rumiko?) is a reference to Manba, a fashion trend developed from Ganguro. Manbagi placed 4th in the first popularity poll. According to Komi, both her and Manbagi share the same style of underwear, but with different colors.[1] Like Komi, Rei and Wakai, she has unique "Pompf / Hmph" ears, hers being an unknown animal with round ears(Possibly bear or tanuki ears), as shown in Chapter 327, Chapter 328 and Chapter 416. Like Rei's or Wakai's, Manbagi's ears rarely were displayed, with only three times in the series.

- #9Agari Himiko
Keys: Agari Himiko
Himiko Agari (上あが理り 卑ひ美み子こ, Agari Himiko?) is a student at Itan Private High School. Although highly studious and involved, Agari also has social anxiety, similar to Komi. She is the third of Komi’s friends.
Agari has green hair which she generally ties up, green eyes, and a pair of glasses. She appears to be more overweight and curvy compared to the other girls. Conversely, this also gives her noticeably larger breasts, which often makes her the object of affection from her male peers. She is introduced in and is most often seen in the female school uniform. Personality
Agari is somewhat similar to Komi, in that they are both sweet girls who have social anxiety. Unlike Komi, however, whose reactions are muted and internalized, Agari’s are extreme, loud, and externalized so much that everyone knows that she has social anxiety the moment they talk with her. Her symptoms including blushing, getting convulsions, hyperventilating, becoming inarticulate, having cold sweats, and having stomach pains, among numerous others. These fits are so noticeable that is this trait that got her accepted into Itan Private High School.
Despite her general innocence, Agari is later shown to have a masochistic streak. Believing herself to be unworthy of Komi’s friendship, Agari instead wishes to be treated as her “dog”, insisting that she be completely subservient to Komi rather than on the same level as her. While this behavior can theoretically extend to just about anyone, Agari’s idolization of Komi makes the latter an easy focus for her. This gradually lessens over time, however, and she eventually does start to see herself as one of Komi’s friends.
Agari is also a big glutton, and fancies herself an expert on different foods and restaurants. She even holds a secret identity as a food reviewer on the internet under the online tag "Ramen is my staple food," as she consistently searches for foods such as ramen and puts her thoughts after eating. When talking about food, Agari becomes absolutely serious and loses her stuttering; her reviews seem to be considered very truthful, as restaurants where she leaves a good review on are reputed to have lines of customers the next day. Trivia
Her name is a pun on 上がり症 (agari-shou, "stage fright"), and 卑怯 (hikyou, "cowardice"). Also, her given name starts with 卑, which can alternately mean "lowly, base, vulgar" (alluding to her masochism) and "gluttonous" (alluding to her food-reviewing and large appetite). According to Osana Najimi, her tops sizes were 88, 69 with the last one unspoken. Her idea for the Cultural Festival was to have a Whack-A-Mole booth. Her ulterior motive, however, was the desire for Shouko to hit her.

Akado is a husky man with neatly combed and parted black hair and eyes. He wears square-shaped glasses, a pale green dress shirt, dark brown pants, and carries a black backpack. History
Following his rigorous ritual routine, before he visits a Maid Cafe that he decides to visit, Akado finds his target location, the Itan Private High School Culture Festival Maid Cafe. Immediately, he criticizes the tacky decor, but is immediately drawn in after being greeted by the exuberant Najimi.
Sitting at his table, he compliments the details put into the place despite it being a high school event. Najimi returns holding a menu up to Akado's face while asking him what he'd like to order and he orders the omurice with love, but is unable to finish the end due to Najimi barging off. Despite the discourteous nature of Najimi, Akado rates them as a "Peppy character". On closer inspection of the other "maids" there, Akado rates Nakanaka as "Geeky", Agari as "Clumsy", and Yamai as "Prickly". In Akado's opinion, the cafe covers all of the Maid Cafe archetypes. At that moment, Akado is approached by the quivering and tacit Komi holding a glass of water. Akado believed her to be scowling at him and concludes that his inappropriate nature for ogling the maids there has upset her. Komi then serves him a glass of water and softly speaks "Pa... on..", which Akado interprets her saying "Patronizing", however, in truth it was "Pardon me".
After being served his meal, Akado finishes it off and leaves in a gloomy and dour mood. Thinking that Akado was upset about the poor service she gave him, Komi tries to give the farewell greeting, but is too nervous to do so. So, Najimi steps in and says it for her, which Akado notes are taboo for a maid to say the wrong farewell greeting to an exiting customer. He then rates Komi as an "Ice-Queen" type. Etymology

Kiyoko once again asks Ase for help, and this time she agrees. In chapter 257, Ase and the girls have a sleepover at Manbagi's house. When Manbagi asks Ase about Naruse, she is seen blushing and being flustered. This results in Kiyoko looking at her in disgust.
In chapter 361, Manbagi observed Ase and Naruse are always being together. This resulted to confronting Ase and Ase finally confirms that she and Naruse are in relationship. She further confirmed that it was she who confessed and was flustered when asked if they smooched (by the girl love talk group). Kiyoko became out cold during this.
Chapter 445 officially confirms that Naruse and Ase had indeed kissed. Before even entering the library, Najimi received their first out. The Library Committee (Agari included) has since then been reorganized into a punishment squad, each carrying a paper fan and also striking people who are loud. That also includes dating with girls or sharing time with his classmates. This trait made him look like a cold person towards others, but not foreshadowing his cool and good looking appearance.
However, after he became friends with Hitohito Tadano in 3rd year, he became more attached to him at the point to see him as a fatherly figure or calling him "Papa". This friendship made him realize he was being rude with Komi after her attempt to become his friend when they met for the first time, even if she didn't perceive his rejection as it was.
After settling things up with Komi in Chapter 417, learning that they both had a lot in common as both dealt with a similar scenario, he started to admire her for being strong towards her own communication limitations and never giving up as he did. Therefore, he started to see her like a motherly figure, calling her "Mama" and wishing to reborn and become Tadano and Komi's son.
This new motivation lead him to become a more sociable person (Even if he's still talking like a baby), supporting Fuki Yo during his failures during Sports Festival and or sharing time of quality with his classmates as well as being there to support Tadano along with his other friends.
In Chapter 456, he's shown to be a good singer at karaoke, although he was babbling as usual, it's commented that he's on pitch.
Before joining the Itan Private High School, Ogiya was inadvertently popular at junior high school for being good looking. However, this popularity wasn't rewarding for Hafuru in any mean, leading him to be in a severe struggle since people started to take pictures of him without his permission, spreading rumors about who he was dating, boys accusing him of stealing their girlfriends and having to confront several stalkers almost everyday.
As a result of these traumatic events in junior high, he decided to act like a baby, so everyone would leave him alone. And this behaviur was successful during high school, but at the cost to not to make friends until 3rd year when he became Tadano's friend.
After sharing time with Hitohito, he decided to call Komi to settle things up with her at the Itan's Tea Club; shortly after telling her about his past experiences and how both are similar with the struggles they had to deal, with the difference that Komi never gave up on her communication issues unlike himself, remarking that she's an admirable young woman.
Komi on the other hand, shared with him her past experience at middle school and requested him to become her friend, which Hafuru wasn't sure due his fear to relate with people.
Without accepting a no as a response, Komi managed to convince him, becoming his 80th friend on the list. Later that day, Ogiya had a goal in life, to reborn as Shouko Komi and Hitohito Tadano's son.
Lately in the series, he became more social with his classmates and or stood there to support and cheer Hitohito Tadano during each of some special events, such as Sports and Cultural Festival, his duel against Kanchi Gai and for his National University Exam.

Character Name Full Name Hiki Komorebi Furigana ひきこもれび Personal Info Gender Female Height 181.2 cm Family Inaka Nokoko (cousin) Occupation Student Education School Kisai High School (formerly) Itan Private High School Year/Course 1st Year Class 1
Hiki Komorebi is a tertiary character in the manga Komi-san wa Komyushou desu. She makes her first appearance in chapter 275 of the manga, presented as "Komorebi is a hikikomori".
Komorebi has short black hair (dark green in color covers), pale skin, angular eyes, and is 181.2cm tall, being the 2nd tallest woman in the series (only overpased by Gorimi). In chapter 275, she is seen wearing a large overcoat that makes her look more intimidating than she looks without it.
Like Shouko, she has a toon face when she is scared, amazed or surprised, with big but still angular eyes.
On Chapter 326, Komorebi appears as a student at Itan Private High School and wears the uniform. Like Komi Shouko, she wears tights on her school uniform. Personality
Komorebi is extremely timid and self-deprecating, because she is a shut in. The way she is perceived by others, scary and hostile is comparable to the way Komi Shouko thinks others see her.
Like Shouko, she is overly distrustful of herself, believing that she is a nuisance or simply afraid. The difference with Shouko is that it is difficult for her to even have the intention of talking or interacting with people. Thanks to the friendship she has with Aoi Netsuno and Susumi Shusou, and the encouragement that her cousin Inaka Nokoko gives on her, she was able to get closer to more people, her main goal being to become a friend of Shouko, who, as best she could, encouraged her not to give up on their dreams.
Komi, after hearing Komorebi's backstory, feels as though she can relate to her on a personal level. Trivia
Her given name, Komorebi, means "sunlight filtered through trees," (木漏れ日).

Character Name Full Name Ichou Setoka Kanji 伊調 馨 Furigana いちょう せとか Personal Info Age 17 (in the beginning) 20 (chapter 330) Gender Female Height 160.6 cm Weight 52.1 kg Occupation Student (Former) Student Council President (Former) Substitute Principal (Current) Education School Itan Private High School Year/Course 3rd year (Former)
Setoka Ichou (伊調いちょう せとか, Ichou Setoka?) is a third year student and was the Student Council President before Isagi Kiyoko.
She is a idol in the school having white hair and blue eyes she is like najimi but a airhead but cute
During the introduction ceremony, the Principal forgot to tell the students to sit down and continued his long speech. As a result, Ichou decided to walk up stage herself, grab the microphone, and tell everyone to sit. This serves as the inspiration for Isagi in wanting to become Student Council President, as she believed Ichou was looking out for a student that looked sick (In reality, she was just tired of standing).[1]
Najimi brings Isagi, Komi, Manbagi, and Ase to see Ichou, and are shocked to see her hosting a spicy hotpot lunch in the Student Council room. On further interaction, we find out that Ichou is notoriously untidy, has all her priorities wrong, and it's implied that she's only President in name, the completely opposite of Isagi.[2]
Ichou reappears in Chapter 209, where she's trying to split watermelons while blindfolded at the Sports Festival, leading to Isagi and Gorimi (with her paper fan poised to strike) showing up behind her. Then again in Chapter 212 where she's seen taking cash bets with Najimi on who will win this year's relay race, which is immediately shut down also by Gorimi and Isagi.
Ichou rescues Tadano Hitohito from an angry mob during the Culture Festival while dressed like a Playboy Bunny and dubs herself the "Bunny of Justice." Ichou has Tadano disguise himself as a girl so he may elude the mob. Despite the costume working, it was meant mostly as a joking excuse to have Tadano cross-dress (again).[3]
The former president makes a grand entrance (still as the Bunny of Justice) with an entourage she calls the "'Cut 'em some slack, It's fine we're young' Association" (CIA) to confront Isagi Kiyoko and her "Federation for Breaking up Illicit relationships" (FBI). The confrontation escalates into a match of Hit-n-Cover Rock Paper Scissors. Komi Shouko and Tadano Hitohito, who were hiding nearby, manage to escape during the commotion.[4] Trivia
She's currently repeating her third year, and in one of her speeches, she states that she wants to repeat another year because graduating would be lonely. Her name is an anagram of "seto kaichou", meaning student council president. Her personality is a lot like Najimi's.

Keys: Imotou (Kazuyuki) Ribbon
Personal Info Age 15-17 Gender Male Occupation Student Education School Itan Private High School Year/Course 1st Year Class (formerly) 2nd Year Class (formerly) 3rd Year Class (currently)
Kazuyuki Imoto (芋?島? , Imotou Kazuyuki?) 和?幸? or affectionally named as Ribbon (り?ぼ?ん?, Ribbon?) is one of the male background characters of Komi San Wa Komyushou Desu, and one of Komi's Friends. His introduction name is always followed up with a "(♂)" tag to distinguish that Ribbon is a male
Imotou has strong femenine traits, making him look like a short young girl, using the Itan Private High School uniform with the bow tie that the girls wear, and black shorts. He has short pink wavy hair with two partings that spikes up at the sides, and wears a polka dot bow behind his hair. Trivia
Ribbon has an energic, lovely and spontaneous personality, displaying the most common traits that involve a stereotypical "little sister" trope for anime/manga. These traits would include having a clingy and possessive behavior, unconditional love towards his siblings, and at times childish tantrums when is not getting what he wants.
Ribbon has shown that could have malicious actions such as investigating Tadano Hitohito in an attempt to find anything controvertial from him in order to try to slander him, just to end up crying for shame after realising that he's everything that Ribbon finds in the "perfect big brother".
Imotou also displays many of the flirtatious behaviors associated with typically non-blood-related little sister character archetypes found in harem shows, visual novels, and dating simulators. These include playful physical contact, provocative poses, and expressions that emphasize his moe attributes.
These actions from Ribbon can often lead to awkard situations, but despite these attitudes, Ribbon is overall a very supportive person and always wanting to cheer everyone up with his positive and playful energy.
Funly even with his cute and girly nature spreading over, he always keeps traditional japanese mannerisms on things such as excusing himself before entering to 3rd Year Class 1 to jump towards Tadano.
Imotou was initially introduced in Chapter 209 vouching at his siblings into not getting hurt. His name gets a "(♂)" tag indicating that Ribbon is a male despite his femenine looks.
His given name was revealed in Chapter 359 resulting to be Kazuyuki. On that chapter, when asked why Ribbon is everyone's little sister, Imotou responds that he wanted to be loved adove all others. According Imouto's own words the two most beloved things in this world are little sisters and Pomeranians dogs, and since he couldn't become a Pomeranian, he decided to be everyone's little sister.
Having 99 siblings, Imotou wanted Komi Shouko to be his hundredth sister, but what prevented it was her closeness to Tadano Hitohito. That's why Imotou investigated him to prove that Tadano wasn't worthy for Shouko, but seeing how noble and kind he actually was, Imotou named him as the perfect brother.
Imotou visited Tadano's classroom to greet him and make him his brother, to Shouko's incredulous look. But Tadano's friends also pretended to be the most important person to him. Tadano says that there is no number one person for him and befriends Imotou.
Later, Imotou would share the photos he took of Tadano to his friends. On the series, he becomes part of Tadano's friends group, vouching at him everytime they hang out together. Trivia
Imotou forms part of Tadano Hitohito's close friends along with Katai Makoto, [[, Ogiya Hafuru, Seikimatsu Toshio and Gai Kanchi who are often hanging out together. According Toutoi Son and Fukusuki Natsu in Chapter 490, Imouto has an unexpected large penis for his height, being his size absurdly compared with a shimenawa, a japanese sacred rope.
- #27Inaka Nokokoconstant
Keys: Inaka Nokoko
Personal Info Birthday August 24 Gender Female Family Hiki Komorebi (cousin) Occupation Student Education School Itan Private High School Year/Course 1st Year Class 1 (Former)
Inaka Nokoko (井い中なか のこ子こ, Inaka Nokoko?) is a girl with a complex about her coming from the countryside. She later becomes friends with Komi Shouko.
Inaka has short, black hair and three freckles on each cheek. Unlike most girls in her school, she wears a longer skirt with her uniform, finding it to be embarrassing if the skirt is shorter than 3cm below the knees. Personality
History
Inaka debuted in Chapter 51, where she was very anxious about school and was worried she would be ostracized for being from the countryside. This leads to her not speaking until the school trip to Kyoto, where she finds out that nobody actually minds her accent. Due to her being from the countryside, she wants to be a "city girl" and observes Shouko's behavior to try and mimic her as she sees Shouko as the perfect example (although she ends up ordering food like a normal person).[1]
Inaka considers suggesting a discotheque for the culture festival, but can't muster up the courage to say it out loud. Tadano notices, and silently urges her to speak up.[2]
Inaka appears in Shinobino's dating fantasy, in which she is his neighbour in the countryside, and makes him try a vegetable. The normie boys affirm how adorable Inaka is in how she thinks that no-one knows that she's from the countryside.[3]
Inaka appears again in Chapter 93, as a shrine maiden running the souvenir booth with Shouko. She panics because she thinks Shouko will oust her at school for being a country bumpkin (which of course, doesn't happen). Like her classmates, Inaka believes Shouko will be able to handle everything with ease until she sees Shouko shaking. Then she advises Shouko to write things down on paper and the rest of the shift goes by with ease. Eventually, Shouko reveals that she knows it's Inaka but has no qualms about her being from the countryside. The chapter ends with the two wishing each other well for the rest of the year.[4]
Inaka is sorted into a group with Onemine and Otori for the school trip to Kyoto, in which Onemine quickly figures out that she is from the countryside. When the class arrives, Inaka is nervous about getting off the train, unsure if she is allowed to enter the city.[5] After the trip, she makes a photo frame with pictures from their time together for Onemine and Otori. She wonders if an imposition, but is overwhelmed when they love it, breaking down into tears.[6]
Inaka appears in another of Shinobino's fantasies, in which she gives him Karinto cookies, despite not knowing what Valentines Day is. It is revealed that the normie group is imagining this, when they don't get any real chocolates for the holiday.[7]
On the last day of year 1, Inaka says goodbye to Komi, before they are put in different classes for next year.[8] Trivia
Her surname, Inaka, comes from 田舎 (Inaka), meaning "the countryside." Her idea for the Cultural Festival was a disco, despite not actually saying it out loud. Despite entering Yuiko's household many times, Inaka didn't actually realize that she is Shouko's grandmother. For the Official Fanbook, during an interview to the author, he was asked about why Inaka Nokoko hasn't written her name on Komi's friend list; his response was that he lost her chance. However, she eventually could write down her name on Komi's list, becoming her 98th friend.

The cloth that she took felt indescribably filthy to her, and from then on she developed severe mysophobia, unable to touch others and refusing to let others touch her. One day, her friend Ase Shibuki greeted her by tapping her shoulder. This caused her to recoil harshly and without thinking, call Ase filthy. She later apologized deeply to Ase, but still felt guilty seeing her friend gradually lose her confidence due to her intense sweating. Etymology

Immediately, Arai greets her, but Komi tenses up making Arai believe that she wasn't a customer after all, but Karisu recognizes her and allows her in. As Komi is seated in her chair, Arai self-consciously wonders if it was something that she did that made Komi not enter. In the end, Arai believes that it's the simple difference between her as a beginner and a pro. Once Arisu correctly decides what kind of haircut Komi wants, Arai notes her enamor for both Komi and her boss' hair beauty and takes a photo, but is told to return to work thereafter.
Arai then offers Komi some magazines to read as Karisu, but Komi appears to be sleeping, but Karisu points out that she's faking her sleep. Karisu then asks how school is going for her and Komi shyly answers with a mere "F", which Karisu believes to be "Fun" and Arai is left astounded how she's able to communicate with a single word. Tasked with shampooing Komi's hair, Arai tries to talk to Komi in a fast pace manner and when asked how long she's been coming there, Komi points to a magazine with the number 12 on it. Surprised that Komi answered with a magazine rather than vocally communicating it. As Arai shampoos Komi's hair, she anxiously wonders what is wrong with her. When Komi's haircut was finished, Arai checks her out and Komi points to a page on a magazine and leaves. Following her outside, Arai politely thanks her and hopes she returns soon. Back inside the salon, Arai confesses to Karisu that she thought Komi hated her, but in truth, she pointed to a page that said, "Thank you" on it. - #33Katai Ai
Keys: Katai Ai
Personal Info Gender Female Affiliation Has a crush on Komi Shousuke Family Katai Makoto (brother) Katai Ken (father) Katai Misao (mother) Occupation Student Education School Kisai High School
Katai Ai (片かた居い 愛あい, Katai Ai?) is the sister of Katai Makoto who is immediately targeted by Tadano Hitomi and is forced to interact with her similar to how Hitomi interacts with Komi Shousuke.
Katai Ai looks like a bōsōzoku, wearing a tokkofuku. This gives everyone the impression that she is a 'hardliner', which is the impression she is trying to give off. Her face looks rough, similar to Makoto, except when she swoons over Shousuke it looks normal. She has blonde hair, and is also implied to be cute, as commented by Shousuke's mom in chapter 207. In chapter 344 she cuts her hair and ends up with it in a bob-cut. Personality
Ai is a tough girl with a typical bōsōzoku personality. She is violent, intimidating, and strong-willed.
Despite her rough exterior, she values her femininity and is a romantic. She is swayed easily by appeals to her romantic side, is somewhat tsundere, and likes cute things such as stuffed animals. She has strong feelings for Shousuke, since she falsely believes he took on the bike gangsters in chapter 182 by himself, and she also believes that Shousuke is a hardliner like her. She also seems to be somewhat sheltered; she believes arcades are "immoral" and calls Hitomi's complex coffee order "a chant." She is also shown to be shy as she won't drag Shousuke to places herself, and she cannot give him her Valentine's chocolate.
Kometani comments in Chapter 198 that "as a hardliner, Ai-chan has zero love resistance!" and "Ai-chan is surprisingly simple."
Ai was first named in Chapter 94, where she is briefly seen coaching Makoto in a workout on New Year's.
She appears again in Chapter 179, where she attacks Makoto for wearing an unusual outfit.
Ai's character is first expanded upon in Chapter 198. She initially hides behind trees to admire Komi Shousuke, for whom she has feelings. She makes a boxed lunch for him, but he ignores her, and she gives the lunch to Yamada Sanjuurokurou (causing him to believe she has feelings for him). Later, Ai goes on an outing with Shousuke, Hitomi, and Sanjuurokurou. Although initially upset that the outing wasn't a one-on-one date with Shousuke, she ends up enjoying herself. Trivia
Ai's full name, Katai Ai (片かた居い 愛あい, Katai Ai?), is a homonym for the phrase "tough love." Ai frequently refers to Shousuke as "Shousuke-kun." Ai placed 42nd in the first popularity poll.

Makoto Katai (片かた居い 誠まこと, Katai Makoto?) is a secondary character in Komi Can't Communicate. He is one of Komi Shouko and Tadano Hitohito's friends who misunderstands Shouko as his communication master. Similar to her, Makoto is also terrible at communicating with others mostly due to his intimidating, 'delinquent-like' aura but shy, and anxious personality.
Katai is a tall and heavily muscled young man, standing over most of his fellow students, with swept-back dyed blonde hair. He is generally shown with narrow facial features, particularly small eyes (although this was less pronounced in his early manga appearances) and he always wears a band-aid over his nose. Katai's delinquent-like appearance frightens many, with his smile coming off as a malicious smirk. Personality
In sharp contrast to his intimidating appearance, Katai is a gentle giant who suffers from social anxiety. He is largely oblivious to how others perceive him. History
Just as school was starting, Makoto caught a cold and was bedridden for a week then, after a week, he found it hard to go to school, even though he only went as far as the school gates. Makoto hesitated to enter the school despite saying he would go tomorrow and by the time he realized, the season came and winter had passed. That summer he thought to himself "I couldn't go on like this" and to prevent being bullied, he trained his body and bleached his hair, making him look like a delinquent.
Despite his extreme makeover, Najimi Osana still recognized him, which made him so nervous he dragged Najimi outside to make sure that no one knows about his past. When nervous, like Shouko, Makoto takes on a scary appearance. Makoto also mistakenly acts scary at times, which is always non-intentional. But with the helping hand of Tadano Hitohito and his friends, he has loosened up over time. He now sees Hitohito as a friend and Shouko as his komyu master. Etymology
Katai's family name, Katai (片居, Katai?) is a homonym for "硬い" (lit. "hard"). Trivia
He gave chocolate to Tadano Hitohito on Valentine's day despite men usually giving their gifts on White Day. His entire family (with the exception of his sister, Ai) is revealed to be stiff-lipped and have trouble having conversations, and instead talk within their minds. Even the men in his extended family, despite their tough looks, are timid like Makoto. Suteno Gorou has mistaken Makoto for Komi Shouko due to Osana Najimi telling him that Komi was the leader of the school. Upon entering their classroom, Suteno Gorou assumed Makoto Katai was Komi Shouko from his frightening aura. In the anime, Katai's internal monologue is far softer and noticeably higher than when he speaks aloud, highlighting the disconnect between Katai's outward appearance and how he sees himself. Katai forms part of Tadano Hitohito's close friends along with Imouto (Kazuyuki) Ribbon, Ogiya Hafuru, Seikimatsu Toshio and Gai Kanchi who are often hanging out together.

Keys: Kawai Rami
Personal Info Age 18[1] Gender Female Affiliation Tadano Hitohito (former classmate, crush) Occupation Student Education School Yuushuushin Prep School Year/Course 3rd Year
Kawai Rami (河かわ合い 羅ら美み , Kawai Rami?) is the student council president of Yuushuushin Prep School. She was Tadano Hitohito's classmate in middle school and his first love.
Kawai, just like Komi Shouko, is a strikingly beautiful, tall and fair skinned girl, described as the prettiest girl in her school by her classmates with long (silver blonde hair.)[3] that is split into two sections flowing down her shoulders with bangs covering her right eye and she has blue eyes with a slanted shape like Komi.[4]
Her school uniform consists of a dress shirt and a knee-length pleated skirt, but she also wears a buttoned jacket with her school's logo on the left breast over it. Personality
Kawai acts cool and friendly on the outside. At the study camp, she captivates many of the Itan Private High School students with just a few sentences. She is very popular at her school, to the point where there is a cult dedicated to her, but she gets embarrassed when it is brought up. Tadano acts awkwardly around her since he was rejected by her, but she has no qualms against teasing him about it.
However, unlike Komi, Kawai seems to be quite judgemental. When she first meets the Itan Private High School students, she coldly evaluates each of them with a grade before interacting the one she considers the best. Additionally, she appears to dislike Komi simply because "she is too beautiful", though she lately expressed that Komi "wasn't worth" for Tadano as his girlfriend.
She is an orphan, who developed a deep emotional dependence from her childhood crush, Tadano Hitohito, forcing herself into a self sacrificing mindset to become a high achiever and, in her mind, become worthy of his love. She succeeded in the former, becoming a model student and excellent athlete, yet failed in the later, losing Tadano's heart to Komi.
She is very smart, as evidenced by how she is at the top of her year in terms of studies, despite already attending one of the more prominent schools in the prefecture.[5]
She can be obsessive at the point of being disturbing as she was determined to marry with Tadano even if that can mean to include Komi on their marriage. That comes to the level of showing videos to convince him to accept her proposal. Or building an apartment ideal for lodging them in their college life with rent free included.
Kawai has also shown to have a tendency to directly do a third-wheel into Komi and Tadano's relationship and eventhough she admitted her loss to Komi and letting her be with Tadano, she's always self-inviting into their dates or personal meetings, often making things awkard for the couple.
She can be abusive and authoritative with her relatives and friends, though they deny her actions or pretend as if she's not doing anything wrong. As well as showing some signs of stalking Komi at having monthly visits at her house, showing that she already owns keys of her house, much to Komi's own dismay.
Albeit she's having some awkard actions and pushing to become a third-wheel on Komi and Tadano's relationship, she's shown to inspire leadership on Komi which helped her to lead properly for Cultural Festival and being able to hold her status as the chairman of her class in 3rd year, becoming more confident of her actions and decisions, understanding that albeit Rami's leadership is inspiring, she lacks of teamwork attitudes.
In her second year of middle school, Kawai had a mutual crush on Tadano, but she was forced to turn down his confession because she thought Tadano would have gotten full of himself and believed being a chuunibyou was the right path if she had said yes. She rejected him under the pretext that she thought chuunibyous were lame, which was what caused Tadano to form his current personality. However, as a result, she sulked in bed for three days and nights.
Later, Kawai met up with Tadano and Komi in Chapter 377 where when they first arrived to the Study Camp and she rated Komi as a "failure" for an assesment of people which would be a good influence on Tadano (Because she saw Komi as a threat for her plans to marry Hitohito). This drove Kawai to despise Shouko in private, showing how she's objectively better for Tadano, and soliciting her to break up with Hitohito.
Due Shouko negating Rami's request, they left their fate into the Study Camp's competitions. Where after having a good string of victories, she lost on the final event.
After losing, Kawai admits her defeat and changes her perspective on Komi, leading to become her 75th friend on the list. She shortly after being Komi's friend, she became a third wheel on the relationship, often insisting to marry both or pushing her ideas on the relationship by taking advantage of Shouko's permissive and shy personality.
As the series advanced, Kawai built a whole building so she'd live with Tadano, but ended up offering it to Komi as a rent-free place to live with her and Tadano(and herself) for their college life. Although Komi accepted under the request to have a low rental payment, Kawai ended up living at the house with Komi and Tadano Maruko as Hitohito refused to live with a bunch of girls in Chapter 500.
Her family name, Kawai, is a pun on the word kawaii (可愛い), meaning "cute, adorable", which reflects on her appearance. She appears as both mirror image and polar oposite of Komi Shouko. Both are astonishingly beautiful, tall, light skinned girls that share a deep attraction towards Tadano Hitohito. Contrary to Komi, she has no interest in forming true friendships, displays a stoic, at times cute nature and has an ultra-competitive personality that leads her to easily judge and rate people. She made her first appearance in Chapter 32 of the manga, when Osana Najimi was explaining to Komi what a chuunibyou was, using Tadano as an example. Only her family name was revealed in Chapter 32. Her given name, Rami, was revealed during her proper introduction in Chapter 377.
- #40Kishi Himeko
Keys: Kishi Himeko
Personal Info Birthday September 10 (Virgo)[1] Gender Female Height 172 cm (Third Year) Affiliation Komi Bodyguards Volleyball Team Occupation Student Education School Itan Private High School Year/Course 1st Year Class 1 (Former) 3rd Year Class 1 (Current)
Kishi Himeko (岸きし 姫ひめ子こ, Kishi Himeko?) is Komi Shouko's self-proclaimed bodyguard, and the founding member of the Komi Bodyguards.[2]
Kishi is tall with long, light blond (platinum blond in the anime) hair tied back in a ponytail. Her height is approximately 172 cm. In manga, she initially wears polo shirt, but switches to the Itan High School Uniform after Chapter 102, while in anime she is shown to wear polo shirt throughout the first year. Kishi also wears knight's armor from her elbows down and knees down.
Kishi first showed up as an enigmatic character who appeared as part of Yamai Ren's troupe of popular girls.[3] Her face is always hidden from view either behind other characters, covered by speech bubbles, shown with her back turned or omitted from distance until Chapter 270. She avoids involvement with the main plot through distance and by chatting with Onigashima Akako in the background. However, unlike her fellow background friend, Kishi does not receive her chapter during the first year.
In Chapter 64, Kishi was shown to be part of the Komi Bodyguards along with Samurai, Shinobino, and an unnamed maid student. She would later be consistently shown as part of this group.
Kishi was finally formally introduced in Chapter 342, when her motives and backstory were revealed. Kishi briefly 'strayed from the path' and became a delinquent after being told by Komi that the latter does not want her protection. This misunderstanding was cleared up in Chapter 343, after which she is seen making up with Onigashima.
Kishi is frequently seen standing guard near Komi in subsequent chapters.
Her surname, "Kishi," can mean "knight" when written as 騎士. Her given name, "Himeko", literally means "princess child". Kishi's surname first appears in the Volume 3 omake (Chapter 47.5) where Yamai's friend group adds their names to Komi's list of friends. Her name, pictured below at the bottom left, is never mentioned elsewhere.
Kishi Himeko’s full name later appears in the character poll. She placed 17th.
Kishi owns a sword alongside her armor, but she rarely carries it on her at school. Kishi showed up among the group of students labeled 'masochists'.[4] Kishi bears a physical resemblance to Darkness from the KonoSuba series, in addition to also being a known masochist. Kishi ranked 125 out of 150 students in the second year first term exam. Her absence from the summer camp in the third year implied her academic capabilities had not significantly improved relative to other students. At a young age, she was taught kendo, judo, karate, fencing and horse riding.[2]

Personal Info Age 15 (first appearance) 16 (first year/second Year) 17/18 (currently) Gender Male Height 157,48cm (5’2”) Hair Black Eye Black Family Unnamed sister(s) Unnamed parental figure Occupation Student Education School Itan Private High School Year/Course 1st Year Class 1 (Former) 2nd Year Class 1 (Former) 3rd Year Class 4 (Current)
Kometani Chushaku (米こめ谷たに忠ちゅ釈しゃく, Kometani Chūshaku?) is introduced with Naruse Shisuto to commentate on the manga to the reader
Kometani has short black hair with three tufts sticking out at the top. He is generally depicted as having no mouth or nose, indicating his deadpan nature. He's described as small and cute by some other characters. He wears the standard Itan Private High School uniform.
In Chapter 201, it is revealed that he has a stunning smile when he tries. History
Kometani is friends with Naruse. He also told Tadano Hitohito that Naruse is not a bad person. He translated Manbagi Rumiko's gyaru slang when she made her debut in the manga.
He often makes his appearances on the edges of panels in the manga, narrating or stating the scene. In the anime, he also usually appears in the corners of the screen for the same purpose, indicated by a doorbell-like chime. He is usually not seen speaking otherwise. Personality
Kometani is best described as snarky and blunt, reacting to the events of the series in a consistently deadpan manner. His remarks, which frequently break the fourth wall (often appearing in situations where he is not physically present), generally act to inform the audience of the motivations and perceptions of other characters. However, this attitude is not one of malice: despite his frequent quips towards Naruse, he was among the first to recognize that Naruse was a good person, and encouraged Tadano to give him a chance.
Kometani is proficient at snowboarding and gaming.
He is favored by Gorimi in the library because his way of speaking does not register as a sound, as it is a form of narration. He is the only non-gyaru shown to be able to perfectly understand them. He has a preference for big girls. (Chapter 432) Not only does he like big girls, he says that he likes reliable girls, (Chapter 286) and can be spotted oogling at girl’s chests, particularly Manbagi in this case, in chapters 288 (Manbagi), 196 (Isagi), and 413 (Manbagi). This may be a sign of degeneracy of some sort that we were not aware of. Yet, with all of this, he said in 286 that there is no girl that he is romantically interested in. The only girl that Kometani has had said he liked in the girls group (Isagi, Ase, Manbagi, Komi) was Isagi Kiyoko for her dependibilty and her stand-offishness. He has sisters. (In OG JP translation, assumably 1 sister) All of his speech bubbles in the manga are square, stating that he is still narrating even though he is speaking with his vocal cords. But on Chapter 288, his speech bubble turned into a circle when he smiled and got carried away. On Chapter 333.5, he is titled "Kometani the Gamer". He is good at video games, especially Numabros (a game in the Komi Can't Communicate universe that is a reference to the Super Smash Brothers series). His MMR (Online Matchmaking Rank) is 1,105,700,000 in Numabros. He sadly is part of the bunch of characters that don’t have that much personal information revealed about them to the audience. Even if he's active.

Akira Komi (古こ見み 晶あきら, Komi Akira?) is Shousuke and Shouko's cousin. She was originally scared of Shouko before because Shouko's inability to speak resulted in her silent, constant staring at Akira. The two were later able to become close during the Obon Festival.
Appearance
Akira has dark purple hair in a bob cut and purple eyes. She wears a red dress over a white top. History
Akira's mother, Ryouko asks Shouko to play with her even though she's really shy as she hasn't seen her cousin in so long. So to lighten the situation up, Shouko starts to tickle Akira, which makes her laugh, and asks for her cousin to stop, but she doesn't and ends up on the floor wincing from the experience.
She would soon warm up to Shouko and spend time with her through out the day and toward the end of it enjoyed a board game with her. Etymology

Akira's design is nearly similar to the japanese urban legend Toire no Hanako-san (トイレの花子 (はなこ)さん, "Hanako of the Toilet") that refers to the spirit of a young girl named Hanako who haunts the woman's restroom. A possible reference can be seen in Chapter 45 and in Episode 8 when after getting along well with her cousin Shouko, Akira followed her everywhere, including the restroom, much to Shouko's dismay.

This habit was repeated in Chapter 475 where after meeting Tadano Hitohito for the first time, she shew a disapproval behavior towards him, staring at every moment she could and creating tension almost everywhere. However, after Tadano's endeavors on trying to be helpful for her and show interest in her past days as a teacher, she started to grow a fond for him and approve his relationship with her granddaughter.
Back in her younger days, it can be shown that she always had her actual disciplined and strict personality, but with the adding to have an irritated and unfriendly demeanor, giving her the nickname of 'iron lady' by her fellow classmates. However, after her failed attempts to convince Shoujiro Komi from attending school and not understanding his bubbly personality or commentaries at her, she shew some signs of a tsundere personality as it was appreciated in Chapter 483.
Upon the arrival of her son's family, she softly asks the group to come inside, which Shuuko points out as acting like her typical self.
Later that day, at the request of her mother, Shouko visits her grandmother before dinner. It is also a Komi family customary to keep your grandmother abreast of the current events and seek her wisdom. Just before Shouko enters her grandmother's room, her father exits the room looking dour, suspecting he received a stern talking to by his mother. Sitting by her grandmother, Shouko answers all of her grandmother's questions about high school and if anything is bothering her. When Yuiko asks her granddaughter if she has made any friends, Shouko answers yes which makes Yuiko happy. Yuiko then allows Shouko to rest her head on her lap, but then asks if she's seeing anyone. This causes Shouko to panic and Yuiko asks to see her phone and sees Tadano Hitohito's name on it and denotes her disapproval of him.
As Tadano Hitohito came to her house to study with her granddaughter for a month, she had a first met with him for the very first time. Still retaining her previous disapproval at him, she kept a very stoic and unfriendly behavior at Hitohito, creating a major tension in the ambiance; however after Tadano shew interest in her past times as a teacher as he has plans in becoming a teacher, she started to grow a fond on him, opening to share time of quality and becoming more fraternal towards him.

Nakanaka Omoharu (中なか々なか 思おも春はる, Nakanaka Omoharu?) is a student who usually speaks in dubious speech as a result of being a chuunibyou. She states that she was Arsot Les Primavera and that Komi Shouko is Princess Komilia.
Nakanaka has light yellow eyes and straight black hair in a styled bob with a bang that covers her left eye.
She sports a chuunibyou-like fashion, covering her left eye with an eyepatch, her left hand with bandages, and wearing her jacket hanging over her shoulders. Background
Nakanaka is known to others as a chuunibyou, but, despite this, she has a lot of secret fans and is ranked sixth on their list. She calls being friends with Shouko a "Blood Oath." Before entering the series, Nakanaka's offputting nature leads her to be very lonely. Nakanaka is an enthusiast of many things, including video games like Swamp Bros, board games like Battle Dome and card games. Her room decor includes occult-themed posters and a bookshelf full of manga. History
Nakanaka at first attempts to become friends with Shouko in the only way she knows how: in a weird way. Saying her "Dragon Force" is reacting, she asks Shouko to take her hand. Shouko doesn't understand. After seeing Nakanaka alone and partner-less during PE, she walks over and offers to be her partner.
Nakanaka's and Ren's adorations of their friend Shouko spark conflict between the two, who both believe they are the better friend to Shouko than the other. Trivia
Her surname, Nakanaka, is from the word "Chuu" in Chuunibyou, which is the same as "Naka", a common otaku lexicon. This is further reinforced by her given name, which consists of the kanji 思 ("believe, imagine, dream") and 春 ("spring; adolescence, puberty"), alluding to chuunibyou being the state of an adolescent having delusions of grandeur. She purchased a wooden sword during her school trip to Kyoto and named it "Darkness Kikuichimonji." Her idea for the Cultural Festival was to have a band, though her ulterior motive was to hear Shouko's singing voice.

Personal Info Gender Male Affiliation Ase Shibuki (Girlfriend) Occupation Student Education School Itan Private High School Year/Course 1st Year Class 1 (Former) 2nd Year Class 1 (Former) 3rd Year Class 4 (Current)
Naruse Shisuto (成なる瀬せ詩し守す斗と, Naruse Shisuto?) is a student at Itan Private High School and one of the main supporting characters of Komi-san wa Komyushou Desu. Naruse is a narcissist who believes everyone adores him when in reality most people find him weird and a loner. Despite his ego, though, Naruse is actually a kind person that cares for the people around him, which gradually gives him real friends after previously only having Kometani Chushaku for company. He is the 43rd of Komi’s friends, one of the best friends of Tadano Hitohito, and the boyfriend of Ase Shibuki.
Naruse has blue, gelled hair with bangs he can often be seen adjusting. He wears glasses and is also usually seen with his earbuds. He was first introduced wearing the school male uniform which he is most often seen in, with his jacket buttons frequently undone. History
Naruse is a person who believes that all people are his fans and the reason he is not approached is that others think he is too good for them to talk to. Believing that Komi is the only person who would be able to relate to this problem he attempts to talk to her multiple times but is foiled by Komi's fans. To him, Tadano is so ordinary that he seems invisible. Later when Naruse leaves the classroom he drops his handkerchief which Komi returns to him. This action causes Naruse to believe Komi is in love with him and asks for her number the next day. He doesn't get her number but thanks to some words from his friend Kometani he does get the number of Tadano and they become friends.
Naruse is in Tadano and Katai's group on the school trip. Naruse becomes friends with Katai during their bath time.
When everyone enters their second years, Naruse is in class 2-1 along with Komi et al. Being friends with Tadano and Komi from the previous year, Naruse and Kometani begin tagging along with Komi, Tadano, and Rumiko (and occasionally Najimi), in addition to their new friend Ase.
In Chapter 165, during a trip to the beach, Naruse trips in the sand and gets pulled out to sea upside down. After being saved by the lifeguards, Naruse is feeling down. Ase stays with Naruse after that.
In Chapter 180, as Shibuki and Naruse tremble onward during Najimi's "Test of Courage", Ase apologizes for having to be Naruse's partner and berates herself for her sweatiness, even as Naruse cowardly hides behind her. Naruse replies with comforting words, saying she shouldn't be so hard on herself for her sweating, and thanks to her for sticking by his side after the embarrassing incident on the beach. He then blows it off with a narcissistic comment. Hereafter, Naruse seems to start developing feelings toward Ase.
In Chapters 211 and 229, Naruse attempts to lend a hand to Ase. In Ch 211, he's going to get the sweaty Ase some water during the Sports Festival. In Ch 229, he starts helping Ase clean up confetti. Both times, though, he is interrupted by the sudden appearance of Isagi Kiyoko. The first time, Isagi intercedes by offering Ase water before Naruse gets the chance, The second, Naruse gets a swift whack from Isagi's mallet when he gets too close to Ase. And a few extra hundred whacks thereafter, for good measure.
Personality
Naruse is a flamboyant narcissist, whose ego is matched only by his utter lack of self-awareness. He has a tendency to strike poses for the world (often by ripping open his shirt), even when nobody is watching. However, Naruse is ultimately a kind young man, and would never put others down.
Naruse is more intelligent than he appears, scoring well on exams and being one of the few characters to realize Komi's communication disorder on his own (although he discards the thought quickly). Conversely, he is extremely clumsy and incompetent with physical activities. Etymology
Naruse's name is a transparent pun on "narcissist" (ナルシスト, narushisuto?). Trivia
Naruse relaxes by standing in front of mirrors. All of his thoughts are commentated on by Kometani Chuusaku. Although Kometani often points out Naruse's delusions, he tells Tadano that Naruse "isn't a bad person." Naruse's seat during class for both his first and second years is in the back row, nearest to the window. His placement is a reference to an anime trope known as "The Protagonist's Seat." The trope revolves around how many school-aged manga and anime protagonists find themselves seated at that specific spot; back row, nearest to the window. Naruse believes himself to be the true protagonist of the series, so he sits in the fated seat too. He can be seen as early as Chapter 17, page 8, frame 2. Though his face isn't visible, you can see Naruse in his signature pose, with his shirt off, in the top right of the frame (in the back corner of the classroom, where he sits). Naruse has a cameo in the first chapter's double-page spread. Naruse enjoys western music and is shown listening to "Justice Bieber" in his intro chapter. He is one of the few characters to realize Komi's communication disorder, though he changes his mind quickly, instead theorizing that she's actually waiting for other people to talk to her. In Chapter 157 it's revealed that Naruse scores very well on exams, to the surprise of his friends. Naruse placed 25th in the first manga popularity poll. He bears some resemblance to Narukami Yu from the Persona 4 games.
- #49Natsukido Rei
Keys: Natsukido Rei
Rei Natsukido (夏なつ木き戸ど零れい, Natsukido Rei?) is the daughter of one of Komi Shuuko’s classmates. She stays at Komi's house for a week because her parents are traveling around the world for their job. She is similar to Komi in that they both have trouble communicating with people, even though Rei does not have a communication disorder Natsukido has black/blue shoulder length hair who usually wears a bow. She has cat-like eyes and a slender body. She seems to like wearing one-piece dresses, even though she does not confirm this. Personality
She has a personality disorder that makes her prone to hide her happiness and reply towards kindness with indifference and disregard. It is later known that this personality was formed as a defence mechanism due to her parents' international work and long periods far from her, as well as constant school changes, that prevented her from making and maintaining any kind of long term friendship with anyone. She chose to stay emotionally distant with anyone in order to avoid any further inevitable departure.
Later, specially after having lived with Komi, she begins to open up and show her feelings towards others, becoming a moderately extrovert person and capable of making friends by the time she has to, yet again, leave for a long stay in an overseas school in the United States. She departs having formed a deep friendship with Komi, whom she sees as another person with desires to form relationships, albeit struggling to do so.
Her bears' name is Elizabeth Alexandrine Georgine Jeanne Catherine Christiane, Rei's description was: "She was born to the royal Alexandrine family and the noble Christiane family. She's 14 years old and she's fifth in line for the throne. She's high-handed and naive and selfish and careless, but sometimes she surprises everyone by saying something insightful." She blew Komi's attempt at talking to her off 4 times by turning her head away, leaving Komi in confusion. And almost crying. Like Komi and Manbagi, she has unique "Pompf / Hmph" ears, hers being bunny ears, but like Manbagi's, are rarely displayed, only once in Chapter 402.

Personal Info Age 16 (first appearance) Gender Female Family Netsuno Aoi (younger sister) Occupation Student Education School Itan Private High School (graduated) Year/Course 2nd Year Class 3 (formerly) 3rd Year Class 4 (formerly)
Chika Netsuno (根津野 ちか, ねつの ちか, Netsuno Chika?) is a student one year above Tadano, Shouko, and Najimi, and serves as Shouko's athletic rival.
Appearance
Netsuno is a girl with tan skin and an athletic build. She has red hair that's held by a hairpin with a flame at the end, and fire-shaped irises, further adding to her theme of heat. She wears a track jacket with her surname on the back. History
Although Netsuno is seen on Chapter 1's opening page, she isn't seen until Chapter 54; where she goes around determining the energy level of students in degrees Celsius. Netsuno commonly uses the words heat and cold to describe people. Despite being called hot-blooded (a term meaning enthusiastic), Netsuno is actually a calm person that loves a competitive spirit. In fact, it can be said that Yadano is more hot-blooded than Netsuno.
Netsuno first appears to greet Shouko as her opponent in the relay race, assuming that Shouko was a cold person when in fact she was just unable to communicate. However, after seeing Shouko trip and fall, yet still be determined to win, Netsuno also gives it her all. She narrowly beats Shouko by a very short length, and later acknowledges Shouko's "120 degrees".
Netsuno appears again in Chapter 212 in the Sports Festival's relay race, going head to head with Shouko once again. Although Shouko gives it her all, Netsuno wins the race once again, much to Shouko's initial dismay. However, that disappointment dissipates once Netsuno laughs, remarking that she never thought Shouko could get so frustrated. Netsuno then tells Shouko that she can challenge her anytime, she then gives Shouko her contact info, and the two become friends. Trivia
The first two hiragana characters of her surname "netsu" (ねつ) can also be the reading for "heat" (熱) Likewise, all her fellow runners in Chapter 54 have "hot/heat" in their names. She is in the same year as Gorimi. She's weak to compassion, as seen when she burst into tears seeing Shouko's friends care more about her than the result of the race
