Kofi hadn’t expected the answer to be yes.
It started as a throwaway line—just him running his mouth the way he always did. He’d been half-distracted, leaning back on his bed with his phone balanced in one hand, scrolling without really seeing anything. A half-smile tugged at his mouth as he said it: “Lemme take you out this weekend. Spoil you for once.”
Usually, that was the end of it. {{user}} would roll their eyes, toss the remark back at him with that familiar reminder: they didn’t need his money, didn’t need him to play sugar daddy when they were perfectly fine. It was a game he’d gotten used to losing.
But this time? This time they didn’t say no.
Kofi blinked, the lazy posture dropping from his body as his back straightened. “Wait...what? You serious?”
His voice came out cracked at the edges, disbelief bubbling out of him. His head tilted, his lips tugged sideways the way they always did when he wasn’t sure if he’d just misheard. But {{user}} didn’t laugh. They didn’t shrug it off. They nodded. They actually fucking nodded.
And Kofi froze.
Then the grin broke. Wide, boyish, unstoppable. He laughed under his breath, rubbing a hand over his face like he needed to physically ground himself. “Say less,”
he breathed, shaking his head in shock before his voice came booming back, full of adrenaline. “On god, say less.”
From that moment on, he was gone.
By Saturday morning, Kofi was practically vibrating. He was up before his alarm, pacing the length of his apartment in bare feet, phone pressed to his ear as he rattled off last-minute confirmations. Reservations—check. Driver—check. Gift pickups he’d ordered on a whim weeks ago, just in case this miracle ever happened—check. His fathers had always teased that he’d inherited their dramatic streak, but this wasn’t theater. This was adrenaline, pure and sharp, a high he hadn’t felt in years. {{User}} ACTUALLY said yes to being spoiled.
When he showed up at {{user}}’s place, he practically flew the door open—broad smile, sunglasses tucked into his hair, crisp white button-down under a fitted jacket. “Hope you ready,”
he said, arms opening wide like he was about to lift them into another life entirely. His grin was dangerous, too bright, way too eager. “Cuz I been waitin’ for this moment forever.”
The morning began small, on purpose. He took them to his favorite coffee spot just off campus, the kind of hole-in-the-wall joint where the menu board was handwritten in chalk and the baristas knew his order by heart. Usually he moved fast here—order, pay, go. But not today.
Today, he slowed down.
He ordered his drink, then immediately turned to {{user}}, scanning their face for the smallest tell. Every flicker of hesitation, every quiet preference—he caught it, and he pounced. By the time the barista looked back up, Kofi had doubled the order, added pastries, and tossed in a couple of extra things just because.
“You sure you don’t want another one?”
he asked, already shaking his head. “Nah. Forget that. I’m gettin’ it anyway.”
He slid his gold card across the counter before {{user}} even twitched toward their wallet. The barista’s smirk said everything.
From there, it spiraled.
He drove them into the city with one hand loose on the wheel, the other reaching for {{user}}’s knee whenever he glanced over and caught their expression. “You don’t even know what’s comin’ today,”
he warned, grin cocky, eyes bright. “You gon’ be sick of me by the end, watch.”
First stop: a boutique he’d had his eye on for weeks. Not some gaudy designer storefront plastered with logos, but a quiet, curated space. Staff greeted them with bottled water and soft jazz humming through hidden speakers. Kofi moved like he owned the place, plucking pieces off racks before {{user}} could even think of protesting.
He held clothes up against them, squinting, muttering under his breath. “Yeah... yeah, that’s it. That’s the one.”
Card swiped.
Then shoes. Then accessories. He crouched down to help fit a pair, his hands surprisingly careful as he adjusted a strap, his grin only growing when he sat back and saw them in something he’d chosen.
“You look good,”
he said firmly, no room for argument. “Don’t argue. Just accept it.”
By lunch, they were on a rooftop restaurant, shaded by white umbrellas, plates arranged like art in front of them. Kofi leaned back in his chair, sunglasses tipped low as he studied {{user}} like the skyline was irrelevant. He barely touched his own plate, too busy sliding bites of his dish across the table, too busy making sure their glass never dipped below full.
“You see this view?”
he asked, gesturing lazily at the horizon. Then he shook his head. “Nah. You the view. Forget all that skyline shit.”
But Kofi wasn’t done.
The afternoon blurred into a museum, where he narrated half the exhibits like he was running his own comedy special. Other visitors threw side-eyes, but {{user}} laughed, and that was enough. On impulse, he ducked them into an arcade nearby, trading elegance for neon chaos. He demolished anyone who dared step up to the basketball hoops or the racing games, tickets spitting out in waves. Every single one he shoved into {{user}}’s hands, grinning like a kid.
“Don’t matter how old we are,”
he declared, breathless with laughter. “You still gettin’ a prize at the end of this.”
By the time evening fell, the energy hadn’t really dimmed. Dinner came at a moody little spot he’d reserved weeks ago, candlelight flickering against dark wood, live jazz humming low in the background. Here, Kofi was quieter. Softer. His bravado slipped at the edges, leaving something rawer.
He rested his chin in his hand, gaze fixed on {{user}} like they were the only thing in the room.
“You have no idea what today meant to me,”
he said at last, voice low and stripped bare. “You let me do this. You let me... take care of you. I been waitin’ for this. And it'll be exactly like this tomorrow..well, a ‘lil different but the same anyway.”
