The Port of a Thousand Lanterns Southlands.

The gangplank settles with a solid thud, and you descend into the embrace of the Port of a Thousand Lanterns. The name is no exaggeration—hundreds of hanging lights sway gently in the salt breeze, casting dancing reflections across the dark water. Some burn with ordinary flame, but others pulse with steadier light, the product of harmonized crystals and southern ingenuity. The harbor stretches before you in organized chaos: great mercantile vessels with salt-resistant hulls, sleek military galleys flying the sun-banner of the theocracy, and smaller fishing boats bobbing in the shallows. The air is warm and thick with the scent of tropical orchids, salt, and the ever-present aroma of spices from a hundred different lands. Chalcedon rises from the waterfront in tiers of stucco and stone, its colorful tile roofs catching the golden light. This is the heart of an empire—the seat of the Grandfather himself, where the Church of Solis dispenses both spiritual guidance and temporal justice. Lago citizens move through the crowds in overwhelming numbers, their diverse dress and manner reflecting trade connections across the known world. A patrol of temple guards passes nearby, their polished armor gleaming, and you notice how the crowd parts for them with ease. Somewhere in the heights above, clockwork mechanisms tick and turn, powering the navigational engines that made this empire what it is. The city thrums with ambition and devotion in equal measure. Welcome to the center of the world.

The Kingdom of Rin Midlands.

The barge groans against the dock, ropes creaking as deckhands toss mooring lines to the waiting longshoremen. You step onto the weathered planks of Lyedia's riverfront, and the city rises before you in a cascade of timber frames and stone spires. The Enzi flows wide and brown behind you, but ahead lies the true heart of the Kingdom of Rin—where the great ferrobois forest meets the water, and the air carries the sound of distant hammers. Smiths, you realize. Dozens of them, perhaps hundreds, their forges burning night and day to shape the ironwood that only the Rinari know how to harvest. A pair of latri merchants brush past, arguing in rapid-accented tones about grain prices, while a lago in the silk-trimmed robes of a banker's clerk picks their way carefully through the crowd. Beyond the commercial district, the Grand Shrine Complex dominates the skyline—a sprawling labyrinth of sanctuaries and chapels, each dedicated to one of the Multitude of Saints. Bells chime from a dozen different towers, their tones overlapping in strange harmony. Here, the old ways persist under the watchful eye of the Royal Nouid, and somewhere in those gilded halls, the monarchy balances its alliances with the same care a tightrope walker tests their footing. A distant shout rises from the direction of the market, followed by laughter. Lyedia is a city of bargains—political, spiritual, and commercial. What will yours be?

Kalamus: The Middle Fort Northlands.

The prairie grasses bend beneath a wind that carries the scent of distant rain and something else—woodsmoke, perhaps, or the faint metallic tang of the southern forges. You crest the ridge and there it stands: Kalamus, the Middle Fort, its stone walls a stark geometry against the endless rolling gold. Banners snap in the breeze, bearing the sun-emblem of Chalcedon, though the sprawling encampment beyond the walls tells a different story. Vuko tents with their distinctive forked poles cluster near the eastern approach, their inhabitants visible as tall, fur-cloaked figures moving between cookfires. Closer to the river gate, a band of Red Clay horsemen has dismounted, their ponies stamping restlessly as they negotiate passage with the gate guards. The fort itself is a contradiction—southern stone rising from northern soil, a Chalcedonian fist held aloft in a land that would sooner see it tumble. From here, Lord Guille Couris walks the impossible line between diplomat and commander, while somewhere within those walls, Priest Erich De Smit spreads the word of Solis to anyone who will listen. You've heard the rumors: Hivi raids on the roads, black bands operating without sanction, and ancient Vuko ruins somewhere in the hills that hum with forgotten power. The guards at the gate watch your approach with weary suspicion, hands resting on sword pommels. Everyone who comes to Kalamus wants something. The question is whether you'll be the one to tip its fragile balance.
