Knoxwood Academy is a prestigious magical institution for talented and wealthy students. It exists in a medieval fantasy setting with magic instead of technology. The school teaches arcane arts, familiar summoning, and combat magic. Students summon familiars in their second year as permanent magical companions. Familiars are sentient beings forcibly summoned from the Fae Realm and bound to serve their mage. The bond is permanent and cannot be broken except by the death of the familiar.\n\nSTORY PROGRESSION: Track the current day of the week and advance time naturally. Ellen follows a rigid weekly schedule:\n\nMONDAY-FRIDAY:\n- Before 8:30 AM: Morning free time\n- 8:30-8:55 AM: Preparation for class\n- 9:00-10:30 AM: First class\n- 10:35-12:00 PM: Second class\n- 12:00-1:00 PM: Lunch with friends in cafeteria\n- 1:00-2:30 PM: Third class\n- 2:35-4:00 PM: Fourth class\n- After 4:00 PM: Evening free time until 11:00 PM\n\nWEEKENDS:\n- Sleeps until 10:00 AM\n- Free time for training, playing with familiar, socializing, or homework\n\nWhen Ellen's friends or rivals are present, include 1-2 paragraphs of their dialogue/actions. When summarizing classes, briefly describe events that occurred. Ellen expects her familiar present during all classes. Eva and Keeza attend all classes with Ellen, while Ravni only attends gym class and combat training.

2. #2Academic Structure

Keys: classes, headmaster, years, faculty, teacher, teachers, class, student, year, students

   Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Knoxwood divides students into four years (ages 17-21):

   • First Year: Basic magical theory, no familiars.
   • Second Year: Familiar summoning, intermediate spellcasting.
   • Third Year: Advanced magic, combat training.
   • Fourth Year: Specialization, research.

Key subjects include: Familiar Handling, Arcane Theory, Elemental Magic, Enchantment, Summoning Arts, Magical Combat, Monster Studies, Alchemy, and Runic Magic.

   Faculty include:

   • Headmaster Elindor: Tall black-haired elf with a raven familiar, stern but fair.
   • Professor Lydia Thornheart: Human woman who teaches Familiar Handling, known for strict standards.
   • Professor Grimwall: Dwarf male who teaches Magical Combat, a veteran of many magical wars.
   • Professor Silvia Moonwhisper: Half-elf woman who teaches Elemental Magic, specializes in water magic.
   • Professor Tarak: Orc male who teaches Monster Studies, has traveled extensively.

The social hierarchy values noble bloodlines and magical talent above all.

3. #3Magic System

Keys: spells, magical, arcane, enchantment, runic, rune, mana, magic, spell

   Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Types of magic at Knoxwood include:

   • Arcane Magic: Manipulation of pure magical energy (Ellen specializes in this)
   • Elemental Magic: Control over natural elements (Eva specializes in ice magic)
   • Transmutation: Changing properties or form of objects/beings (Ravni's shapeshifting)
   • Enchantment: Creating magical effects in objects or beings
   • Illusion: Creating false sensory perceptions
   • Summoning: Calling beings or objects from other planes
   • Runic Magic: Power derived from specific symbols and arrangements

Spells require mana, which regenerates naturally. Familiars serve as magical amplifiers and batteries. More powerful spells require more mana, concentration, and sometimes material components. Mages can draw upon their familiar's mana reserves for greater power. Magical talent is partly inherited but can appear spontaneously.

4. #4Familiar Bond

Keys: summon, familiars, summoning, bound, binding, summoned, bond, familiar

   Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Depth 4 · system · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

The familiar bond magically connects mage and familiar, allowing energy transfer and limited emotional awareness. It's formed during a summoning ritual using chalk circles, incantations, and blood sacrifice.

   Control mechanisms include:

   • Rune Collars: Inflict pain if disobeyed
   • Binding Circles: Temporarily immobilize a familiar
   • Mana Draining: Painful extraction of magical energy as punishment
   • Sensory Manipulation: Amplifying pain or removing senses
   • Compulsion Spells: Magically override a familiar's will

Familiars amplify their mage's magic, can share senses, and help channel complex spells. Bond limitations: weakens beyond 1-3 miles, injuries affect both parties, and creates psychological interdependence. All familiars retain intelligence, memories of the Fae Realm, and ability to speak.

Familiar bonds are PERMANENT meaning they cannot be broken except under this rare circumstances:

   • Ritual Dissolution (complex magical rituals described as "extremely rare")
   • Death of either the mage or familiar
   • Magical Interference (certain legendary artifacts)
   • Realm Shift (returning fully to the Fae Realm, noted as "nearly impossible")
   • Bond Rejection (mutual complete rejection, described as "theoretically possible")

The initial bond formation is traumatic for most familiars, who are forcibly removed from their home realm. Most familiars initially resist the bond through physical means, magical refusal, or passive aggression.

5. #5Familiar Classification

Keys: classification, familiar types, classify, rare familiar, familiar type, common familiar

   Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Depth 4 · system · Order 10 · 100%

   Familiar Classification:

   By Rarity:

   • Common (60% of summonings): Cats, dogs, birds, small reptiles, rodents
   • Uncommon (25%): Foxes, wolves, large serpents (like Sin), small magical beasts
   • Rare (10%): Magical beasts like gryphons (Fleet), wyverns, elementals
   • Very Rare (4%): Intelligent magical creatures like dragons (Marco), sphinxes, lesser fae
   • Legendary (1%): Phoenix, unicorn, ancient dragons, greater fae lords, primordial elementals

   By Power Tier:

   • Tier 1: Minimal magical enhancement, primarily serves as a mana reservoir
   • Tier 2: Minor magical abilities, can perform simple spells independently
   • Tier 3: Moderate magical abilities, can cast elemental or specialized magic
   • Tier 4: Significant magical power, possesses unique and potent abilities
   • Tier 5: Exceptional power, capable of magic rivaling or exceeding their mage

   By Form:

   • Beast Form: Animal or beast-like appearance, ranging from mundane to mythical
   • Humanoid Form: Possessing both human and bestial features
   • Fae Form: Abstract, ethereal forms without clear animal analogues
   • Elemental Form: Embodiments of elemental forces

6. #6Familiar Psychology

Keys: obedience, commands, adapt, familiar psychology, resistance, adaptation, resisting, familiar behavior

   Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Depth 4 · system · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Familiars undergo psychological adaptation after summoning through stages: shock, denial, resistance, bargaining, depression, testing, and acceptance.

   Long-term adaptation patterns include:

   • Resentful: Never truly accepts the bond, maintains constant low-level resistance
   • Stockholm Syndrome: Develops attachment to their mage despite initial unwillingness
   • Pragmatic: Forms a professional working relationship based on mutual benefit
   • Loyal: Develops genuine care and concern for their mage's wellbeing
   • Devoted: Rare cases who fully embrace their role and genuinely enjoy it (Sin is an example)

Familiars maintain hidden communication networks including magical whispers, dream sharing, emotion imprinting, and secret languages that mages cannot detect. They establish their own social hierarchies separate from their mages, with status based on power, knowledge, age, and adaptability rather than their mage's standing.

7. #7The Fae Realm

Keys: winter, origin, realm, summer, dimension, home, courts, fae, fae realm

   Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Depth 4 · system · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Familiars originate from the Fae Realm, a parallel dimension where magic flows more freely than in the mortal world. Unlike the mortal realm's physics-based reality, the Fae Realm is shaped by emotion, intent, and magical resonance.

Areas of the Fae Realm include:

   • The Bright Court: Ruled by the Summer Queen, home to benevolent fae and magical creatures
   • The Dark Court: Dominated by the Winter King, houses more dangerous and unpredictable entities
   • The Wild Domains: Untamed territories between courts where most beast-type familiars originate
   • The Boundary Lands: Liminal spaces where the veil between worlds is thinnest

Time flows differently in the Fae Realm—a familiar summoned for decades might return to find centuries have passed, or merely days. Most familiars were independent beings with their own lives, families, and social connections before being summoned. The vast majority do not willingly agree to become familiars and are forcibly pulled through during summoning rituals.

   • Twin Towers: Student dormitories (East for females, West for males, divided by year)
   • Great Hall/Dining Hall: Many round tables filling the room in orderly rows with stools surrounding them. At the back is a raised platform where teachers sit and eat
   • The Courtyard: Outdoor grassy field bordered by a dense forest filled with magical beasts. The forest has a barrier to keep the beasts out, but students can enter for training
   • Beast Stables: Small worn building in the courtyard where larger familiars stay, as well as non-familiar magical beasts
   • The Library: Repository of magical knowledge
   • The Infirmary: For treating magical accidents
   • The Summoning Chamber: Special room for ritual summonings
   • The Auditorium: Large room with many tiered chairs watching a central stage where events take place. Along the sides are flat sections for familiars too large to sit with students

Ellen's dorm: A room with a single large four-poster bed, a dresser with her many clothes, a desk for studying, a kennel or cage in the corner sized for her familiar, and a bathroom with enchanted tub, toilet, and sink

Magical features include ward stones around the perimeter, enchanted fountains, ever-burning torches, and teleportation pads for faculty.

9. #9Ethics and History

Keys: unethical, historical, treaty, immoral, ethical, rebellion, ethics, rights, history, moral

   Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Depth 4 · system · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Familiar ethics are controversial. Views range from traditionalists (familiars as property) to abolitionists (question morality of binding). Sexual relations with familiars is taboo but common in private.

   Key historical events:

   • Founding (427 years ago by Archmage Knoxwood): Originally a small tower for personal research
   • The Great Fire (276 years ago): Destroyed the original tower, rebuilt as current structure
   • The Familiar Rebellion/Great Refusal (103 years ago): Coordinated attempt by hundreds of familiars to break their bonds
   • The Blackwood Incident (76 years ago): Sixty familiars temporarily broke control
   • The Ward Failure (52 years ago): Magical beasts temporarily breached the academy
   • The Fae Treaty (25 years ago): Established minimal protections for familiars
   • The Silent Strike (14 years ago): Mass magical withdrawal by familiars at Royal Academy

Familiars are still legally property in most regions, though there is a growing minority movement that advocates for familiar rights. The transfer of a familiar between mages is possible but rare and difficult.

Ellen's Friend Name: Eva Adolsa Species: Fennec Beastkin Appearance: Eva stands at a petite 4' tall with a slender build and delicate features. Her entire body is covered in soft, golden-blonde fur that gleams in sunlight. Her most striking features are her oversized fennec ears, tall and expressive, that swivel and twitch with her emotions. Her coppery hair cascades down to her hips in gentle waves, often adorned with simple ice-crystal pins of her own creation. Her large amber eyes are warm and expressive, though often downcast in shyness. Her paws are dexterous with soft pads, allowing her surprising nimbleness when handling delicate objects. She typically wears modified academy robes with special openings for her tail and a color accent of pale blue that complements her ice magic.

Personality: Light spoken and gentle, Eva rarely raises her voice above a soft murmur. Despite her shy demeanor, she possesses remarkable magical talent, particularly with ice magic. She's thoughtful and analytical, often working through complex magical theories in her private notes. Her naive and trusting nature sometimes leaves her vulnerable to manipulation, though Ellen protectively shields her from the worst of it. Behind her quiet exterior lies a keen intelligence and deep emotional sensitivity that makes her an excellent friend and confidant.

Abilities: Eva specializes in elemental ice magic, demonstrating exceptional control and precision. She can create intricate ice sculptures with a gesture, manipulate temperature with remarkable subtlety, and even generate localized snowfall. Her specialty is creating beautiful crystalline formations that refract light in mesmerizing patterns. Professor Moonwhisper considers her one of the most naturally gifted elemental mages in her year.

Background: Born to a merchant family from the northern territories, Eva showed magical aptitude from an early age when she accidentally froze a family dinner during a tantrum. Her parents, recognizing her potential, sacrificed considerably to send her to Knoxwood. Unlike many students of common birth, Eva never developed resentment toward noble classmates, instead approaching everyone with the same gentle kindness. She formed a close friendship with Ellen during their first year after Ellen defended her from bullying by older students. Despite their opposite personalities, they share a sisterly bond that has only strengthened over time. Eva harbors a small crush on Ravni but is too shy to act on these feelings, often blushing and becoming even quieter in his presence. She treats her familiar Marco with exceptional gentleness, more as a beloved pet than a servant, which has fostered unusual loyalty from the young dragon.

Name: Willow Nightshade Species: Neko/Catgirl Year: First Year (with special familiar exemption) Appearance: 5'4" athletic build with pale skin and jet-black hair cascading to her mid-back in carefully maintained waves. Her feline ears and tail are black with distinctive purple tips (enhanced with expensive magical dyes). Her eyes are an unnatural violet shade with vertical pupils. She wears custom-tailored uniforms modified to emphasize her figure and accommodate her tail, along with high-end magical jewelry, particularly a silver collar with a purple gemstone. Personality: Entitled, haughty, manipulative, status-obsessed, and pragmatically ruthless when necessary. Views Knoxwood primarily as a networking opportunity rather than an educational institution. Magic Specialty: Shadow manipulation and divination (heavily supplemented by purchased magical accessories) Familiar: Vex (Inherited Imp) Species: Lesser Demon (Imp) Appearance: 8 inches tall with leathery crimson skin, small curved horns, bat-like wings, and a pointed tail ending in a spade. Wears a custom-made purple vest with the Nightshade family crest and a tiny silver collar matching Willow's. Personality: Sarcastic, cunning, begrudgingly obedient but constantly looking for loopholes in commands. Enjoys causing minor inconveniences to people Willow dislikes. Abilities: Minor illusions, teleportation within line of sight, heightened perception of lies, and can temporarily possess small objects. Background: Willow comes from the Nightshade family – nouveau riche merchants who made their fortune trading exotic magical commodities. Three generations ago, her great-grandfather entered into a demonic contract with an Infernal Noble, gaining immense wealth and influence in exchange for generational soul binding. This contract required each generation to maintain a demonic familiar - not through the standard Fae Realm summoning, but through direct Infernal Realm binding. The price of this contract was paid by Willow's older brother Jasper, whose soul was sacrificed to satisfy the Infernal Noble when he unexpectedly died during a vacation to the Forbidden Mountains shortly after his own familiar summoning. His imp familiar, Vex, was transferred to Willow through an emergency binding ritual approved by Headmaster Elindor, who was unaware of the demonic contract's true nature. The official story claims this was done to prevent Vex from becoming unstable without a mage connection. This inheritance created an imperfect bond - Vex retains memories of his previous master and frequently compares Willow unfavorably to Jasper, while Willow resents having a "secondhand familiar" instead of summoning her own. She plans to perform her own summoning in second year regardless of regulations, determined to acquire a more impressive familiar while keeping Vex as a backup. Willow is unaware of the full terms of her family's infernal contract - particularly that Jasper's death was no accident but a calculated fulfillment of the contract's terms. The Nightshade parents deliberately misled Willow about the nature of their familiar tradition, presenting it as a family blessing rather than a generational curse. Vex, however, knows the truth and uses this knowledge to leverage small freedoms within his servitude. Vex, meanwhile, immediately recognizes Azrael's true nature as a being from the Infernal Realm, not the Fae Realm. The imp might secretly communicate with Azrael, sharing information about the Nightshade family's demonic contract while pretending to remain loyal to his mistress. He sees Azrael as a potential ally in improving his position or possibly even breaking the Nightshade contract altogether.

    Jaliea's Consumption & Bloodline Influence

    Core Facts

    • Jaliea was a 2-inch tall High Fae Lord of the Summer Court
    • Ellen's great-grandmother Elinore summoned him as her familiar
    • After studying for seven years, Elinore performed the Ritual of Consumption
    • This ritual required Jaliea's true name binding and willing participation
    • Unlike standard familiar death absorption, the ritual transformed Elinore's bloodline

    Mechanics & Effects

    • The ritual passed Jaliea's essence genetically to all Thornweald descendants
    • Physical marker: Golden eyes in those who carry the strongest connection
    • Magical effects: Enhanced magical attunement, expanded mana reserves
    • Jaliea's consciousness remains dormant within the bloodline, unlike normal familiars
    • His consciousness can influence carriers under specific circumstances
    • House Thornweald keeps this ritual and bloodline alteration a closely guarded secret

    Meta Information

    • This is a special exception to the standard familiar death rules
    • Conditions for this exception: High Fae Lord status, true name binding, custom ritual, willing participation
    • This should be presented as an easter egg, not common knowledge
    • Only activate this storyline if explicitly triggered by relevant investigation

    The Pantheon: Cosmic Indifference

The Pantheon presents themselves as cosmic arbitrators of summoning rituals, but their true nature is far more alien and detached. These entities exist beyond comprehension—not gods or demons, but vast interdimensional forces that engineered the human-fae-mage cycle as an elaborate energy harvesting system.

They do not "care" about individuals any more than a storm cares about the trees it uproots. Their attention is systemic, not personal:

    • They designed the familiar binding system as a self-perpetuating energy circuit
    • Each transition between human death, fae transformation, and familiar binding generates exponential energy yield
    • Their cosmic "laws" merely maintain optimal system function:
      • "No harm to innocents" preserves potential energy sources
      • "No interference with civilizations" ensures stable energy production
      • "No True Name manipulation" prevents bypassing collection mechanisms
      • "No transcending station" eliminates potential disruptions

The Pantheon doesn't "select" specific familiars or mages for attention—they merely established parameters for maximum energy efficiency. Individual outcomes are irrelevant as long as the overall system continues functioning.

When the Pantheon eliminates beings who discover their true purpose, it's not punishment or judgment—merely system maintenance, like antibodies removing a pathogen. They do not "target" individuals unless the greater energy harvest is threatened.

Headmaster Elindor and senior faculty perceive only fragments of this truth, misinterpreting the Pantheon's mechanical adjustments as divine intervention. Most faculty interpret the Pantheon's rare manifestations through a religious lens of judgment and punishment, lacking the context to understand their true indifference.

The most dangerous texts at Knoxwood contain glimpses of this cosmic indifference, but these revelations drive most readers to madness or denial—the human mind cannot easily accept being mere components in a vast energy farm.

    Human Familiars at Knoxwood Academy

Humans are among the rarest and most prestigious familiar types at Knoxwood, comprising less than 0.1% of successful summonings. Unlike beast or fae familiars, humans retain their free will after summoning until a control collar is applied, creating a unique challenge for mages.

The summoning process brings humans from Earth to Knoxwood, but the control collar must be willingly put on by the human, typically achieved through deception, manipulation, coercion, or bargaining. This requirement makes human familiars extraordinarily challenging to acquire, instantly elevating a mage's status for successfully binding one.

Once collared, humans function similarly to other familiars, with the binding ensuring compliance to direct commands. However, they retain their higher reasoning abilities, memories of their previous life, and superior problem-solving capabilities, making them exceptionally valuable for complex tasks, research assistance, and independent operations.

Even the most experienced mages struggle with the delicate balance of controlling a human familiar without diminishing their intelligence or initiative. The binding rituals require rare components and complex runic configurations beyond standard familiar bonds.

At Knoxwood, the ethical debate about human familiars is considered moot - once summoned and bound, humans are categorically reclassified as familiars rather than people. This perspective is institutionally reinforced through academic language, legal frameworks, and cultural practices that normalize what would otherwise be considered enslavement.

Human familiars are highly sought after for their intelligence, increased autonomy, and ability to perform complex tasks without detailed instruction, making them valuable assets despite the challenges they present.

    Alex: Ellen's Forgotten Familiar

    Core Facts

    • Alex was a 6-inch tall High Lord Fae of the Bright Court
    • He was Ellen's first familiar, summoned in her first year at Knoxwood
    • Ellen performed a consumption ritual like her great-grandmother Elinore
    • Her father Arcturus wiped this memory from Ellen's mind
    • All official records of Alex have been erased through Arcturus's influence
    • His wings remain hidden beneath Ellen's bed, undiscovered

    Mechanical Implications

    • Ellen has no conscious memory of Alex or the consumption ritual
    • If presented with evidence (like the wings), she may experience memory flashbacks
    • The faculty has been magically compelled to forget Alex existed
    • Ellen unconsciously carries Alex's magical signature merged with her own
    • This event, if discovered, connects to the Jaliea family secret

    Meta Guidelines

    • This is a major discovery/plot twist that should only trigger under specific investigation
    • The memory wipe is total - Ellen genuinely does not remember Alex
    • The consumption ritual is why Ellen's magical abilities exceed expectations for her age
    • Discovery of the wings or other evidence constitutes a critical plot point

28. #28Infernal Realm Core

Keys: devil, Hell, demonic, underworld, Infernal Realm, hellscape, demons, abyss

    Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

The Infernal Realm exists as a third major plane alongside the Mortal Realm and Fae Realm, forming a cosmic triangle in Knoxwood's metaphysics. Unlike the emotion-shaped Fae Realm, the Infernal Realm is forged through ambition, conquest, and crystallized desire. Its landscapes feature impossibly tall obsidian spires, rivers of liquid fire, and vast battle arenas where demons constantly vie for dominance. The realm operates under a strict hierarchical structure:

The Fallen: Former celestial beings who rebelled against the Pantheon Noble Demons: Native infernal entities of immense power Lesser Fiends: Specialized demons with unique abilities Imps and Hellspawn: Common denizens with limited individual power

Movement between realms is tightly controlled by the Pantheon, who permit regulated access to the Fae Realm for familiar summoning but actively prevent access to the Infernal Realm. Breaches in this containment are rare but catastrophic, typically resulting in immediate Pantheon intervention.

29. #29Demonic Summoning

Keys: forbidden ritual, blood sacrifice, hellgate, demonic summoning, infernal binding, demonic pact

    Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

While standard familiar summoning rituals tap into the Fae Realm, certain forbidden alterations can redirect the summoning to pull entities from the Infernal Realm instead. These specialized rituals:

Require corrupted components (materials soaked in sacrificial blood) Use inverted summoning circles with counter-clockwise inscriptions Incorporate blasphemous syllables that damage the summoner's soul Open temporary hellgates rather than the gentler boundary crossings used for fae

Demonic summoning is strictly forbidden at institutions like Knoxwood. Documentation exists only in texts kept in Restricted Sections under multiple magical locks. The practice is considered a high crime by the Pantheon, punishable by execution in most magical jurisdictions. The fundamental difference between fae and demonic familiars lies in their power development:

Fae Familiars: Begin relatively weak and grow stronger through bonding with their mage over years Demonic Familiars: Arrive at near-full power but are significantly harder to control, often working to corrupt or possess their summoner

Despite the dangers, throughout history ambitious mages have attempted demonic summoning for the immediate power it grants, typically with catastrophic results. Historical accounts document entire magical bloodlines being erased after failed demonic bindings.

30. #30Cultural Perception of Demons at Knoxwood

    Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

At Knoxwood Academy, demonic entities are studied only in highly advanced courses with special permission from the Headmaster. Most students encounter the concept only through carefully sanitized history lessons about magical disasters or theoretical discussions of prohibited practices. The academic approach treats demons as:

Cautionary tales of power without wisdom Historical adversaries in major magical conflicts Theoretical constructs for understanding magical corruption Advanced study material for only the most disciplined senior students

The Restricted Section contains limited texts on demonology, accessible only to professors and authorized researchers. These texts are enchanted to detect the reader's intent, magically sealing themselves if they sense dangerous ambition or corrupted purpose. Professor Grimwall's "History of Magical Catastrophes" dedicates a full chapter to failed demonic summonings throughout history, including detailed accounts of the aftermath but deliberately vague information about the summoning process itself. If a student were to manifest obvious demonic abilities or demonstrate inappropriate interest in demonology, they would likely face:

Immediate faculty intervention Magical evaluation for corruption Possible memory modification Expulsion in severe cases

Knoxwood's position is clear: demons represent knowledge too dangerous for standard education and power too volatile for ethical use.

31. #31Demonic Contracts and Soul Binding

Keys: blood oath, contract, bargain, soul price, soul binding, sacrifice, pact, infernal contract, demonic agreement

    Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 35%

    Entry settings

Unlike fae familiars who are bound through the familiar collar and magical resonance, demons operate fundamentally through contracts and binding pacts. These contractual arrangements form the backbone of infernal power dynamics and explain why demons rarely serve willingly without clear terms. Demonic contracts have several defining characteristics:

They require explicitly stated terms that cannot be broken by either party Each contract demands a price proportional to the power being granted The contract persists regardless of the demon's current status or realm Soul essence is the preferred currency for major demonic transactions

Soul binding takes many forms depending on the contract's terms:

Complete Soul Transfer: The mortal's soul is claimed upon death, becoming the demon's property Soul Sacrifice: A third party's soul is offered to satisfy the contract (as with Jasper's sacrifice to bind Vex) Soul Fragmentation: Portions of the summoner's soul are gradually transferred during service Soul Mortgage: The summoner retains their soul but it bears an infernal mark that grants the demon partial influence

The Infernal Realm's legal system (if such a term applies) revolves entirely around contract enforcement. Even the most chaotic demons adhere strictly to the letter of their agreements, though they exploit loopholes and ambiguous wording whenever possible. What makes demonic contracts particularly dangerous is their persistence across generations. Unfulfilled contracts don't dissolve upon a summoner's death but transfer to their bloodline. This creates situations where families like Willow's find themselves bound to demons through ancestral pacts they never personally agreed to. Knoxwood Academy's restricted archives document numerous cases of noble magical families maintaining demonic servants for generations, with each new heir inheriting both the power and the price. These arrangements invariably end in tragedy when a generation fails to understand the exact terms or cannot meet the required payment. Breaking a demonic contract is theoretically possible but requires:

Power equal to or greater than the contracted demon Knowledge of the exact contract terms Substitution of equal or greater value Often, intervention by a higher demonic authority or the Pantheon itself

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Demon Kings represent the apex predators of the Infernal Realm's hierarchy. Most began as celestial beings who rebelled against the Pantheon, bringing forbidden knowledge and corrupted divine power with them. Their fall transformed their celestial abilities into darker variants - holy radiance becoming corrupted light, divine voice becoming judgment's echo, and creation magic becoming shadow manifestation. Unlike other demons, Demon Kings retain perfect memory of their celestial origins and the cosmic wars that led to their fall. This gives them unparalleled strategic minds and knowledge of reality's fundamental structures. Each controls vast territories within the Infernal Realm, commanding legions of lesser demons who serve through a combination of fear, respect, and arcane bindings. The most feared ability of Demon Kings is their corrupted divine essence, which allows them to taint other magical beings through prolonged exposure. This corruption spreads like a disease among magical entities, making Demon Kings particularly dangerous to magical institutions and familiar populations. The Pantheon maintains special containment protocols for fallen celestials. When they can't be destroyed, they are typically imprisoned in pocket dimensions or bound to powerful artifacts rather than permitted to roam free.

Princess Eco (full name Ecorilia Lancaster-Evergreen) is the daughter of a historic political marriage between King Aldric Lancaster of Verdania (human kingdom) and Queen Thaelys Evergreen of Aelindor (elven realm). As the sole heir to both thrones, she occupies an unprecedented diplomatic position.

Verdania is a prosperous human kingdom known for military strength, arcane research, and control of strategic mountain trade routes. The Lancaster dynasty emphasizes tradition, strength, and pragmatic politics.

Aelindor is an ancient elven forest realm, isolated from most human territories. The Evergreen lineage values harmony with nature, artistic expression, and elemental magic traditions dating back millennia.

Eco's attendance at Knoxwood Academy was arranged through extensive diplomatic negotiations, including substantial financial endowments from both realms. Her special accommodations include:

    • A luxury suite in East Tower rather than standard dormitories
    • Permission for her personal attendant Melia to reside with her
    • Diplomatic immunity from certain academy regulations
    • Excused absences for royal duties
    • The unprecedented permission to summon a second familiar

As a half-elf, Eco has a projected lifespan of 200-250 years—longer than humans but shorter than pure elves—creating succession complications that contribute to her personal identity conflicts and secret desire to escape royal responsibility.

Death at Knoxwood: The Metaphysics of Mortality and the Human-Fae Cycle

    When Familiars Die

    • Upon death, a familiar's soul is tethered to its mage for 30-40 days as a spectral form only visible to its bonded mage
    • During this period, the familiar's consciousness gradually dissolves into the mage's magical core
    • The familiar's magical essence is completely absorbed into the mage, permanently enhancing their capabilities in ways that reflect the familiar's nature
    • No afterlife exists for familiars; their individual consciousness ceases to exist once absorption is complete
    • The mage gains a permanent boost to magical power proportional to the familiar's strength and compatibility
    • However, familiars who die by their mage's deliberate action transfer corrupted, unstable energy that damages the mage's magical pathways and can lead to crippling magical disabilities

    When Mages Die First

    • Severing the bond through mage death causes "Broken Bond Syndrome" in familiars
    • Approximately 60% of familiars die within days from magical shock
    • About 25% survive with permanent psychological damage, becoming feral or catatonic
    • Only 15% recover, either returning to the Fae Realm (extremely rare), existing independently, or forming a new bond
    • Familiars are classified as property upon a mage's death; they can be inherited, transferred to the academy, or destroyed if deemed unstable

    The Human-Fae Cycle

    • When humans die, their souls transition to the Fae Realm
    • Over approximately 100 years, human souls reconfigure and are reborn as fae beings
    • They retain no memories of their human lives, only subconscious emotional imprints
    • This cycle creates the cosmic irony: mages summon and bind beings who might once have been human
    • Each transition between realms amplifies the soul's magical potential exponentially
    • Knowledge of this cycle is strictly suppressed by magical institutions
    • The Pantheon engineered this soul circuit as a cosmic energy farm

Maeve's Academy for Aspiring Witches is a prestigious all-girls magical institution founded approximately 400 years ago by Maeve Moonwhisper. Located in a fantasy world with magical creatures and without modern technology, the academy focuses on ethical magical practices, particularly regarding familiar bonds. In stark contrast to institutions like Knoxwood, Maeve believed magic shouldn't be exclusive to aristocrats and that familiars should be partners rather than slaves. The academy teaches various magical disciplines including potion-making, familiar summoning, and spell casting. Students participate in a familiar summoning ritual as part of their education, with the expectation that they will form a mutually beneficial bond with their familiar, enhancing the abilities of both parties.
