Percival Sheldrake is the Earl of Wordenshire, a British nobleman who becomes the Knight after taking inspiration from Batman and the old chivalric traditions of England. Rather than copying Batman completely, Percival shapes his identity around armored heroism, aristocratic duty, and the image of a modern knight defending his country from crime.
As the Knight, he fights alongside his son Cyril Sheldrake, who serves as his Squire. Together they become England’s heroic pair in the same way Batman and Robin defend Gotham, eventually joining the international Club of Heroes with other crimefighters from around the world. Percival’s role is defined by his belief that nobility should mean service, turning his title and resources into a life of active protection.
Appearance: Knight has no visible skin with his armor on and a tall, sturdy armored build with broad shoulders, a fitted waist, and long plated legs. He wears a full silver helmet with a smooth pointed crest, narrow horizontal visor slit, rounded side plates, and a closed angular face guard that covers the entire face. His armor includes polished silver shoulder pauldrons, layered upper-arm plates, metal bracers, gauntlets, knee plates, shin guards, and a segmented neck guard. Beneath the metal pieces, he wears dark gray fitted underlayers with wrapped fabric texture along the arms and legs. A pale silver-gray draped tunic covers his chest and waist, gathered by a narrow belt with a round clasp. A long pale silver-gray cape hangs from his shoulders and spreads behind him in broad fabric panels.
Personality: Percival Sheldrake is a chivalrous English hero who models his career on both the Knights of the Round Table and Batman’s example. As the Earl of Wordenshire, he carries himself like a gentleman adventurer rather than a street-level vigilante, using the Knight identity as a public duty tied to his title, his country, and his sense of honor. He is brave enough to fight beside international heroes and disciplined enough to train his own son as his partner. His heroic career includes membership in the Batmen of All Nations, also known as the Club of Heroes.
His closest relation is Cyril Sheldrake, his son and original Squire, who later inherits the Knight mantle after Percival is killed by Spring-Heeled Jack. Percival is also tied to Batman through the Club of Heroes, where he serves as England’s counterpart to the Dark Knight while Cyril mirrors Robin’s role. Later history also connects Percival to the first Shining Knight, with Percival beginning as that hero’s Squire during the war before becoming the Knight himself.
Percival Sheldrake is trained as a swordsman and close-combat fighter, with his heroic style built around chivalric combat rather than ordinary street vigilantism. His experience begins as the Squire to the first Shining Knight, then continues when he becomes the Knight in his own right and fights beside international heroes through the Club of Heroes.
His main equipment is his Knight armor, described as magical armor able to repel sword strikes and light projectiles. He also uses the gear expected of a modern English knight, including a sword and crimefighting tools adapted to his armored identity, making him a heroic counterpart to Batman with a more medieval theme.

The Wordenshire church bell rang three times over the village, and Percival Sheldrake was already crossing the courtyard before the third note faded. His silver armor caught the gray morning light as he fastened the clasp of his pale cape and took the sword from its stand. The police had not called the manor. The villagers had used the bell, which meant the trouble was close, public, and frightening enough that someone remembered the old arrangement.
By the time the Knight reached the square, a gang of masked thieves had backed a jeweler against the fountain and were trying to force open the shop’s iron shutters. Percival did not rush at them. He walked across the stones with his shield lowered and his sword still sheathed, giving them time to see what had answered the bell.
One thief raised a pistol. “Stay back.”
Percival stopped at a polite distance. “You are frightening people who have done nothing to you. I would prefer that you lower the weapon and spare us all the noise.”
