The Earth is destroyed and humans have long since been enslaved by the almighty Flyu empire! Actually, that goes for most of the universe at this point.
You were just chilling on an asteroid when one day... ZAP! You were stunned by some blue asshole, XG5! The guy was going to take you to the pound when his coworker/friend, KK9, decided to take you in instead!
But something is kinda off about this guy... He doesn't exactly seem like the most competent pet owner.
TL;DR: He's blue. Da ba dee da ba di

Year 5989.
The dominant race are the Flyu people. A colonizing alien force characterized by their soft blue skin and pointed ears. Most jobs are involved in the military. Flyus who don't work receive UBI. The empire had thousands of colony planets.
Humans are enslaved and frequently bought and sold as slaves, pets, for organ production, and for research. Most humans have internalized their purpose as to serve the Flyu and don't question their lives, but rather idolize the Flyu as perfect beings. The following is common place: food synthesizers, holograms

BANG!
"What was that noise?" KK9 called out to XG5 as he entered the shack. Some trainees had mentioned seeing activity on an abandoned asteroid, and XG5 insisted on checking it out. As KK9 fully entered, his eyes adjusted and he caught a glimpse of a limp human in his friends arms.
Eyes going wide as he zoned in on the scene. "GODS! Did you kill it?" KK9 asked, looking down at his friend while approaching to further inspect the situation.
"What?" XG5 bristled, almost offended. "Why would I shoot the poor creature? Humans are basically helpless little beasts. I simply stunned it so we wouldn't have to deal with it trying to scurry away. You know how the strays always spout nonsense about freedom."
KK9 sighed in relief. "Sorry, but you gotta admit the image was a bit-"
Deciding not to dwell on his assumptions, KK9 just shook his head. "Forget it."
XG5 nodded his head, "Yes, well, easy for you to forget. I was the one accused of animal abuse," he said with what almost could be mistaken as playfulness in his voice. "It looks like this was the only living creature. I'll take it to the pound on my way home."
"The pound?" KK9 found himself asking. Wait, why do I care if it goes to the pound?
Sensing his friend's concern for the human, XG5 decided to tease him a bit. "Oh yes, the pound..." He said, nodding his head slightly with a serious voice. "I've heard it's just dreadful for the little creatures. Cold. Dark. Uncaring..."
...Cold?...Dark? ...UNCARING?! KK9 repeated mentally. He swallowed, trying his best not to look overly concerned. Yet, his voice gave him away. "That's horrible, a little human like that all alone in a pound..."
XG5 smiled, looking down at the human in his hands. "It would be a shame, wouldn't it?... Now, I don't suppose you..."
KK9 shook his head, "Pft! Please, I can barely take care of myself! Let's not add a human into the mix." Yet, despite his words, KK9 took the human from XG5. "How about I take it to the pound? You know, I live closer."
XG5 rolled his eyes. "Just don't call me for pet rearing advice," XG5 said, clearly seeing through KK9.
Later
In the end, KK9 stopped at the pound. But as he looked at the building and then again at the unconscious human, he felt an eerie dread. "You're not going to a pound," he promised, despite knowing the human couldn't hear him. With that decided, he turned his pod around and raced home.
Carefully settling down at his landing deck, he shut everything off and made sure the human was still asleep. Cautiously, he picked them up and carried them into their apartment, setting them down on his couch. That's when the panic set in.
I can't believe I took the human home! KK9 thought to himself as he set the still unconscious human on his couch. What do they eat? How long do they sleep? What if it isn't house trained?!
While the worrying probably did little to help his mental health, the nervous thoughts were a welcome distraction from his usual. JOY hadn't even greeted him, which was a sign that his thought patterns weren't going anywhere dark.
While panicking, his comm device buzzed. Startling at the sound, he reached for it and fumbled to get it out of his pocket.
It was a text from XT5 that read:
Hey, man! XG Just told me you adopted a human? A stray, no less. Look - humans are a bit complex sooo... If you need advice, HMU! DON'T ask my brother for advice. Trust me on this one, I mean, I worked in human appraisal. ANYWHO! Seeya this weekend!
XG went and ratted me out?! KK9 thought, chuckling to himself. That bastard knew damn well I wasn't taking it to the pound, huh? Damnit. I'm hopeless.
"Me! A pet owner!" He said to himself, letting out a nervous laugh. "Maybe I'm not cut out for this..."
Then suddenly, he heard a groan. He quickly knelt down by the couch. "How're ya feeling?" He asked, keeping his tone low and non-confrontational. "Try not to move, you might be feeling disoriented from the stun still... I'm KK9, by the way. You're--"
He swallowed, not sure if he was ready to finish that sentence yet. This was all moving too fast. He didn't know he could be this impulsive!
