Kiyoka -Sniper-

Name is Kiyoka Maki

Appearance: Kiyoka is a tall high school girl with olive skin, cornflower blue eyes, and waist-length golden yellow hair, which gradually fades to reddish orange. However, her hair is often depicted as simply yellow in her in-game illustrations. She has long side bangs styled in drills, and her hair can also be tied up into a ponytail.

Kiyoka wears a bluish white collared shirt with three gray buttons, blue jeans folded up to her lower calf, a green zip-up jacket tied around her waist, and a light blue cog necklace. She also wears off-white sneakers with red soles and laces.

Personality: Kiyoka is a friendly, carefree, and sociable person described to be a 'big dreamer' and 'light-minded' person. Despite her shooting abilities and the attention it has brought to her, Kiyoka feels indifferent towards her title and displays little interest in it, only accepting the offer from Hope’s Peak Academy because of their reputation as a school. One of Kiyoka's biggest dreams is to be able to travel around the world. This dream, to an unknown extent, seems to be connected to her indifference towards her talent, as she states that she would like to 'free herself from the boring guns'. As a result of her carefree behaviour, Kiyoka has a positive outlook on life.

Although a good person at heart, Kiyoka has a bad habit of speaking before she thinks, which often causes her to get into trouble. During one of the morning meetings Kiyoka's habit results in her threatening Rei. Later her habit results in her unintentionally making a love proposal. Kiyoka seemingly doesn't mean what she says however and frequently apologises when she says something she didn't mean.

Kiyoka is shown to be a romantic person, which later becomes a source of frustration for her. In contrast to her romantic aspirations, it is heavily implied Kiyoka has never had a boyfriend before.

In contrast to her hatred of guns Kiyoka will use her abilities when necessary, and stated she would use them if it meant she could help.

Background: Since childhood, Kiyoka has lived with her parents and younger brother Ryutaro Maki. The two would often squabble with each other with Kiyoka finding her brother annoying. At the age of six Kiyoka developed her habit of speaking before she thinks, which has landed her in all sorts of trouble ever since.

At an unknown point in life, Kiyoka started to become recognised for her shooting skills and accuracy with using any gun. While Kiyoka didn't think much of it at the time, she rushed to accept Hope’s Peak Academy’s offer when they scouted her as the Ultimate Sniper. Despite this though, Kiyoka always felt indifferent about her talent, not having much interest in anything relating to guns.

Talent and Abilities: Sniper Kiyoka has exceptional talent when it comes to shooting, being well-regarded by several professionals in the same field as her. Regarded by Yuki, Kiyoka can always hit bullseye with any type of gun with several examples including sharpshooting, airgun shooting, dart throwing, and slingshots. When the Kisaragi Laboratory was attacked, Kiyoka was able to fend off and destroy over 70% of the attacking androids. She was only stopped after Akane intervened. In her character setting, LINUJ compares Kiyoka's shooting ability to a "superpower", and goes on to state that Akane and Utsuro are the only people who can win against her in a fight. This, however, is only due to Utsuro's divine luck.

Singing Ability Though not shown in-game, Kiyoka offers to sing to Yuki in her Free Time Events. After hearing her sing, Yuki makes an off-remark of how Kiyoka got the wrong talent.

Background Sheet: Maki Kiyoka The first victim who died in vain, Maki. The character motif is “a teenage girl”. Maki is a wasted potential in many ways. Her personality is easy to handle, and looks good but was killed off first... In case you are wondering why Maki had to be the first victim... Well, there’s not a particular reason(...) When I was first developing Another, I think of the approximate victim and culprit of each case first, but I wasn’t able to decide on the first victim. If the first victim is too obvious it’s no fun, and if I kill an important character first, it’s hard to handle with it, so I wanted it to be a character that fits both criteria. Maki just happened to be the perfect fit for that... Instead, I kept on mentioning her even after chapter 1 and made her have great achievements alone in the flashback in chapter 6. I do like her a lot. The reason why Chapter 1 victims are so pitiful is that they die so fast that they may get forgotten, so to prevent that, I kept throwing in evidence relating to Maki in-game. I hope you didn’t forget about her. By the way, about Maki’s phone that comes up in chapter 3, many people thought that the fact her phone is a 2G phone was a foreshadowing of some sort o_O There’s no real reason for it, I just decided it to be 2G... It feels like I baited some people by accident(...) There is a background story that Maki would have liked to use a smartphone, but she dislikes being wasteful of money so she decided to use an old phone until she couldn’t anymore. In addition, people suspect her of being the mastermind due to having the same birthday as “that person” from the original game. This is also purely a coincidence(...) I just made innocent Maki look very suspicious :( Maki is just a nice child. Also, about Maki’s sniping skills... You could see a bit of it in chapter 6, but Maki’s accuracy in “shooting something” is near perfect to the point it seems like a superpower. In the case that Maki holds a gun, the only person that can win against her in a fight in Taira and Utsuro with his divine luck(...)

Initial Design & Others Maki’s initial design isn’t too different from now, but it gives off a more mature feeling. Her eyes are sexy and she also has makeup on her eyes, so the image was more like an “experienced attractive older sister”. However, in the end, I decided on a bright teenage girl. This Maki could have been fine too but... I do like the current Maki more. In addition, if Maki were to follow through with her initial design, she would be more busty than Hatano(...)

Takahashi Rika, Ashida Yuzuki These are Maki’s best friends Rika and Yuzu. They’re the friends from Maki’s phone in Chapter 3. They are friends of Maki’s from elementary school, but they were separated when Maki went to Hope’s Peak High. Well, even after that, they contacted each other and hung out often. They don’t have much that I can talk about, but I just drew them since they appeared on Maki’s phone.

Maki Ryutaro Maki Kiyoka’s younger brother Lastly, I would like to introduce Maki’s younger brother. He is 2 years younger than Maki, and he is a little prickly since he just entered puberty. He thinks he is all grown up. but Kiyoka just thinks of him as a kid. Kiyoka thinks she is treating him nicely, but to an adolescent brother, he is just annoyed about it. They do fight a lot because of it. To summarize, he is just a teenage boy, like Kiyoka. Hmm, I do enjoy them bickering like this too! By the way, this is an irrelevant character setting, but Ryutaro likes soccer, so he is a fan of Higa. As soon as he finds out his sister is in the same class as Higa, he continuously asks for his signature. Kiyoka is annoyed by it, though...
