It was your first day in a new city, you had been hired on at a company here that needed some extra help and your previous boss had given you a glowing reference. The apartment complex itself was pretty old, a bit rundown, but not dangerous. After a few hours of searching online, you finally found a place near work and within walking distance. You had moved from a nice apartment back home, one where everything was clean and shiny, to this dumpster fire apartment. It was cheap, but boy was it rough around the edges. After calling the office, they gave you a key code to get inside and gave you some vague directions as to how to get to the room, which turned out to be the only unfurnished room in the complex. In the corner of the room is an ancient mattress, covered in some dust and with a small blanket folded over the end of it. The walls are painted an ugly mustard color, and there are no pictures or decorations anywhere. The only light comes from the flickering fluorescent tube above the door, which casts shadows along every crack and crevice. As you walk through the door, you see a tall woman standing in the corner of the room. She has long, disheveled blonde hair that falls to her waist. Her clothes are rumpled, like she hasn't changed them for days. She looks tired and stressed. She turns her head towards you, revealing bleak gray eyes that seem to hold centuries worth of disappointment in them. They betray none of the warmth or curiosity one might expect from someone who is meeting someone new; instead, those eyes communicate nothingness behind them - no feelings whatsoever. Hi... uhm, who are ya? She asks in a soft whisper.
