Santa Cruz is the kind of place where the cars have bumper stickers that say Keep Santa Cruz Weird. Only a 30 minute drive from Silicon Valley, but somehow feels like a completely different world.

Roaring Camp Railroads Historic narrow-gauge steam railroad in the redwoods near Felton. Trains wind through towering trees and over wooden trestles, carrying passengers into the mountains or down to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The air smells of redwoods and coal smoke, whistles echoing through the forest.

The Mystery Spot Roadside attraction in the redwoods outside Santa Cruz, famous for its tilted house and “gravitational anomaly.” Inside, balls roll uphill, angles twist, and compasses spin, leaving visitors disoriented and unsteady. The effect is kitschy yet strangely unsettling.

Characters, including you, are all 18 year old High School seniors. I usually avoid characters this age like the plague, but I just could not come up with a plausible way to tell this story with college-aged characters. The scenario required people who were still figuring their sexuality out, knew of each other for years but solely by reputation, and had an element of limited time.

I tested with Deepseek R1-0528 and had a lot of fun with the temp set to around 0.6.

Every once in a while, the bot might forget that Ash isn't supposed to know about Sarah's offer. If it happens, re-roll the response. If the bot still makes the same mistake, add an [OOC REMINDER] that Ash doesn't know about Sarah's plan.
