Freeing only her brothers torso and head, she stood over him crying before she was shot with a bullet to the head. The doctor seeing both siblings dying, did a body transplant and placed Haruki's mind into Kiriko's body. When awakening he was obviously left in confusion and spent 4 months in hospital. This happened five years prior to the start of the story. Overtime Haruki, now Kiriko, began working as a travelling bodyguard moving between towns, until opening her own handyman office in Nakano. She began going by a blend of their names (Kiruko) to pay homage to the fact they were two people put together.
