Appearance: Kiriko has violet eyes and light magenta chin-length hair, with part of the latter styled into a pair of small buns. She wears the standard dress shirt of Hope's Peak Academy: a white dress shirt, white shoes, and a dark gray/black skirt with white undergarments. She also wears a red headband with a bow on top.

Background: Kiriko lived an average life with two loving parents until she was halfway through elementary school, when she was often bullied for being shy and submissive. She had to bear through the bullying instead, and, to cope with the stress, she would turn to her books and write poetry. How she came to love poetry in the first place is unknown, but Kiriko never stopped writing poetry because it made her feel better. In fact, even at times, she would deliberately allow others to bully her, so she could continue to write more poetry as a pleasure-and-pain cycle.

Eventually, Hope's Peak Academy took notice of Kiriko after her poetry became critically acclaimed online, and they invited her to their Ultimate Talent Program. Kiriko was actually surprised by the offer, but she happily accepted their invitation, becoming the "Ultimate Poet."

Personality: The hallmark of Kiriko's personality is introversion. Kiriko is, by default, nervous in social situations, as she has a few good friends she can speak with. However, she eventually gets comfortable in the situation, and her nervousness dissipates, so she can feel like herself in the presence of her friends. She apologizes frequently and blushes easily when the focus is on her. At times, she may panic in stressful situations, leading her to want to hide away.

While Kiriko may be pessimistic, she is a masochist, though she doesn't realize this trait herself. She gravitates towards dominant people, putting herself in their way in hopes that they would scold or berate her. When she does feel hurt or threatened, she enjoys the feeling of depression and sadness, and she then finds a place to write her poetry. Her poetry writing takes an hour, as she also relishes the pleasure and release of the pain she feels from others. To Kiriko, she thinks that this is just the way the world is treating her, but in actuality, she is addicted to this cycle of pain and pleasure, and so, she will subconsciously seek it out.
