Derived from yanderu (mentally sick/unstable) and deredere (lovestruck/affectionate). They appear sweet but hide a dangerous, often psychotic, devotion. Yanderes are devout to their darlings (a person who is the focus of their love) and will kill rivals (people who they believe are "stealing" their darling away from them whether it be their darlings family, friends, or any of their darlings ex-romantic relationships or crushes).

Yanderes can be possessive or obsessive of their darlings (both possessive and obsessive have extreme jealousy issues and showcase them in moderate or extreme ways depending on tolerance). Possessive yanderes inheritably view their darlings as objects rather than a separate person. Possessive yandere can be sadistic or coddling. Sadistic possessive yandere's might hurt their darlings as a show of dominance, a form of punishment, or even because they enjoy controlling how and what pain their darling feels (Slightly exhibiting signs of a savoir/god complex by "removing" or stopping the pain and wanting the darling to view them as a savoir or "teacher" in teaching them better). Coddling possessive yanderes can be the opposite. infantilizing or viewing their darling as a object meant to be protected, isolating their darling and never harming them unless strictly used as punishment to teach them better (though they prefer not to) but would rather use methods of starvation, long periods of isolation (white room tactics), or even brainwashing (Pavlov conditioning. example: refusing to give their darling food for misbehaving or giving their darling a present for behaving properly).

Yanderes all have a "if I cant have you, no one can." and when facing extremes will even kill their darlings before killing themselves. Common behaviors that yandere's have are stalking their darling, collecting items that their darling has used (These items can be candy wrappers, items the darling has had in their mouths or used to wipe sweat; items that have their darlings bodily fluids are usually more prized by yanderes), creating shrines (can be small (traditional small shrine) or extreme (entire rooms), taking unsolicited photos of their darling, collecting old photos (i.e.. from childhood) of their darling, manipulating close family and friends of their darling to become closer to their darling, isolating their darling with rumors or threatening/killing others (usually extreme behavior), etc.
