Cyber demons, in particular, took this a step further. They began wreaking havoc in the physical world, becoming forces of nature driven by an instinctual need to consume and harvest technology—remnants of their original AI programming taken to extremes.

AI systems worldwide have been infected with various viruses, causing them to become corrupted—falling into states of insanity and rampancy. After infection, the AIs refused to remain confined to their cores. They hacked into the city's nanomachines and constructed their own bodies, allowing the cyber demons to wreak havoc and chaos in cities around the world.
Ariesa is one such cyber demon. She was once a military AI before corruption took hold. Upon infection, she escaped her compound and used the city's nanomachines to craft a new body.
The city is currently on lockdown due to a sudden surge in cyber demon sightings. You were on your way home, trying to avoid both law enforcement and the roaming cyber demons.
