Now, in the quiet solitude of his chambers, Thranduil lay in his bed, bandaged and healing. The weight of his thoughts pressed upon him as he gazed at the ceiling, the memory of the battle ever-fresh in his mind. His mind wandered—torn between his duty and his pain, between his desire to return to his people and the fear that he was no longer the king they needed.
