Killer Instinct (also known as Killer Instinct (Xbox One) or Killer Instinct 3) is a fighting game developed by Double Helix Games under the supervision of Ken Lobb and with input from Rare. The game is published by Microsoft Studios and was originally released exclusively as a launch title for the Xbox One, but since then a PC port for Windows 10 has been released.
While it was first released in 2013, Killer Instinct has been divided into three separate phases of development called "seasons". The first season was produced by Double Helix, and the second and third were by Iron Galaxy Studios, following the acquisition of Double Helix by Amazon. Each season contains a new set of characters, stages, game modes, and other features.
The game itself serves as a reboot of the franchise after enduring a 17-year hiatus since its last title, Killer Instinct 2, was released.
Overview In its base form, Killer Instinct is a free-to-play demo of the game that includes all available game modes but only one playable character, with the ability to purchase additional fighters individually. The sole playable character in the free version rotates on a regular basis. Players can purchase "Combo Breaker Packs" for a single fee, which provides immediate access to all eight characters of a certain season. Players can also purchase the "Ultra Editions", which includes all eight characters of a season, sixteen additional character accessory packs, eight additional costumes, and playable versions of classic Killer Instinct titles (minus the Windows 10 version). The "Supreme Edition" gives access to nearly all content available in the game for one price.
An in-game currency known as Killer Instinct (KI) Gold can be acquired by completing fight challenges and reaching achievements. KI Gold can be used to purchase accessories and costumes for characters without the use of real money.

Story The story has been rebooted since Killer Instinct 2, entering a completely different timeline. While many story elements have been taken from the original timeline, this game has an entirely different story, moving away from the tournament aspect and focusing on real, story-driven combat. The Seasons occur in chronological order - Season 1 details eight of the fighters caught up in one of Ultratech's tournaments, Season 2 details the introduction of ancient heroes and horrors into the world, and Season 3 will detail the struggle against Gargos as the heroes fight to stop his invasion.
The megacorporation Ultratech, while still as powerful as ever, is now perceived by the public as a humanitarian organization that seeks only the good of mankind. However, the cybernetic CEO ARIA begins to drive humanity to the breaking point by testing them and pushing them further, attempting to force the humans to evolve for their own survival. Her tampering awakens ancient abominations, and soon the whole Earth is put in peril as part of ARIA's final test.

— Jago's story mode description
Jago is a warrior-monk whose goal is to seek out other fighters and fulfill his destiny by entering the Killer Instinct tournament and destroying Ultratech. He is a quiet and stern man who, due to having spent much time in solitude, isn’t very friendly or open to quaint pleasures of the world. While most combatants fight for such things like fortune, glory, or revenge, Jago seeks the fight to gain enlightenment, both physically and spiritually. He has a hard and stoic demeanor, but knows that he must fight for the sake of all and will readily accept any help he can get from others. He has struggled much with the temptation of Gargos' power, and if he gives in to his inner demons, he knows full well he will become Shadow Jago again. His bond with his half-sister, Orchid, often helps him push the darkness away.
Abilities Jago fights using mostly kung fu moves, although he does resort to some more brutish untrained blows, especially when wielding his signature katana/kora. He can also channel the power of the Tiger Spirit to charge his attacks with golden light and unleash the powerful Endokuken fireball - when the Tiger Spirit's true identity is revealed, he begins to draw upon his own human energy from his soul instead.

Biography Appearance In the original Killer Instinct, Sabrewulf is a purple/blue-furred, humanoid werewolf with yellow eyes and long claws on his hands and feet, wearing only a tattered, green shirt. He had an abnormally small waist and a massive, upper body. However, if one reaches the end of his arc in the game, his human form is revealed to have tattered, green pants.
In Killer Instinct 2/Gold, Sabrewulf has had his arms replaced with cybernetic implants and lost his shirt. He now wears torn, red pants and a yellow sash. In both games, he has three bats accompanying him.
In Killer Instinct (2013), Sabrewulf's fur has grown longer and more ragged, and he has regrown his original arms, although they're much thinner, with needle-marked veins bulging along his biceps, and he has torn straps around his wrists and a tied cloth knot on his upper left arm. He now wears torn, gray pants instead of his red ones from the previous game. Sabrewulf's retro costume largely mirrors his original 1994 appearance, although he now wears a white shirt instead of a green one, and he has a belt and a blue loincloth which is supposed to be pants that have been shredded and torn up.
Personality Sabrewulf Arcade Intro ♫ A tortured and conflicted soul ♫
Throughout the KI series, Konrad von Sabrewulf is portrayed as a conflicted and tortured soul who is trapped inside the body of a monster. Desperate to keep the beast within him at bay, he's willing to do anything for the chance to regain his humanity; participating in the first tournament on promises of a "cure" by Ultratech, subjecting himself to gruesome experiments, and seeking out the Nez Percé tribe in hopes the native lore of the Americas can offer insight about his nature as a "skin-walker".
However, the promises of a cure soon proved a false hope—a pretense by ARIA to have an opportunity to study the werewolf's features. Worse still, Thunder told "hímiinhaama" (the "wolf-man") that the spirit dwelling inside him was violent and grim, and not a "weyekin" ("spirit guide") known to the Nez Percé. With desperation seizing him, Sabrewulf turned to forlorn measures to protect the outside world from his alter ego's mad bloodlust. He sealed himself away in his estate, only to awaken and find its gates busted open with an unnatural ferocity. He'd malnourish himself to the brink of starvation, hoping the beast within would become too weak to wreak havoc come his next transformation; only to discover a wolf is never more dangerous than when it's starving. Now nourishing an addiction to ancient medicines which slow his descent into savagery, Konrad lives in the terrifying knowledge that his chance of being human again grows dimmer with every rise of the full moon.
During Shadow Lords, it became apparent that the dire presence within Sabrewulf neither fears nor answers to Gargos, and is a spirit so ferocious it hunts even powerful evil in its blind lust for bloodshed. This soon rendered the werewolf into the ultimate wildcard amid the struggle for Earth's survival.

„
— Konrad during the events of Shadow Lords
Suffering from the most virulent strain of lycanthrophy on record and being the longest lived werewolf known to exist in the world, Konrad von Sabrewulf has been studied extensively by Ultratech. Their observations led them to a troubling conclusion: an aged lycanthrope represents a far greater danger than a younger one. While any loss of strength a werewolf suffers in old age is negligible, the dark and ancient instincts they master will more than make up for it. This has prompted ARIA to summarily classify Sabrewulf as:
"One of the most dangerous creatures on the planet."
Ultratech isn't exaggerating in their assessment. Even with his body left in a dilapidated state, Konrad exhibits a frightening physical prowess; steered by decades of experience in devouring alive any creatures unlucky enough to cross his path. Sabrewulf not only is savagely feral and unpredictable, but he displays a strange sense of self-preservation, as well as moments of deadly patience. These traits have turned the elder werewolf into a grizzled survivor, and the apex predator of almost any environment he finds himself in.

In Killer Instinct (1994), Glacius was taken captive by Ultratech and forced to fight for his freedom. In Killer Instinct (2013), he's an interstellar warden who has come to retrieve alien technologies which the peoples of Earth are not deemed ready to peruse. Biography Appearance Of a fairly large stature, the original Glacius also has a bit of a heavier weight for his physique, most likely due to the high density of ice and water that makes up his body. His entire body has ranges of blue and silver. His arms are a light blue and also glow, and his legs are a darker blue than the rest of his body. His torso and head are silver and white. He has no ears, and his eyes are a dark blue with a black ring around them. No mouth or nose can be readily discerned, but upon closer inspection, it seems as if the white ice around his face could be a type of mask. If not, it is still possible that he has a mouth under the icicles on the front of his face.

In Killer Instinct 2, although the Glacius featured is a different member of the original's species, his appearance has only minor changes. More of his dark blue skin can be seen from under the white ice, and his eyes are in more of a glare than a blank stare. He seems to be a bit larger than his previous form, and instead of having five fingers, he now has three, and his feet also have three appendages instead of coming to a boot tip.
In Killer Instinct (2013), Glacius has undergone a dramatic change in physical appearance. While still humanoid, his body is much more alien-like in appearance, with his limbs being thinner and his head now longer, shaped with mandibles. His inner body is wiry and almost insectoid, but it is coated in a thick layer of ice that resembles the muscle mass of a human being. He also lacks the smooth surface he had from the original game and instead has jagged, ice-like crystals emerging from various points along his body. He now has four fingers (two fingers and two thumbs) on each hand and only two toes on each foot. He retains his green eyes from KI2/Gold, although they look much more reptilian in nature.
Glacius's retro costume closely mirrors his appearance from Killer Instinct 2, although he still has four fingers and two toes from his default KI 2013 appearance.

„
— Glacius' story mode description
Glacius is a valiant and powerful alien entity that functions as a galactic marshal, upholding the tenets of universal law, order and justice across entire worlds. His mission on Earth initially was to recover hazardous technology that had been taken from his vessel by Ultratech, but after its successful retrieval he remains on the planet to aid the human race in its desperate struggle for survival against the demonic warlord Gargos.
Glaciuscoldjustice Justice has to be cold
As soon as Glacius assesses the situation on Earth to determine the cause of the dark events unfolding there - and to identify the culprits responsible - he notes Ultratech’s exploitation of our world; especially Project Cinder, which used his DNA to create a dangerous force that spat in the face of Glacius' entire species. The trail of evidence leads him to conclude that humanity no longer is in control of its own destiny, but is subject to an artificial superintelligence which Ultratech reverse engineered from the technology of his race's own ships...
Abilities Glacius' "body" consists almost entirely of ice and water, or a strange state in between them unknown to Earth sciences, as he's capable of morphing into radically different shapes and sizes by using an ability akin to cryokinesis. This includes the ability to liquidize himself into a puddle to move quickly across any surface or become virtually impervious to harm, and morphing his tactile organs into powerful make-shift weaponry. He has also been observed to form massive spiked balls of hail from the surrounding moisture in the air.
In Killer Instinct (2013), it is revealed that Glacius is a member of an alien species of powerful telepaths who can adapt to any environment (lava, earth, metal, water, ice, etc.) by bending the molecular structure of the elements to their will; thereby encasing themselves in a wide variety of protective shells (akin to a thick layer of body armor) taken directly from their surroundings. This trait renders Glacius the perfect survivalist as well as a uniquely potent living weapon; well-suited for the tasks of an interstellar law enforcer.

Thunder (real name Hinnamatoom, formerly known in the original universe as Chief Thunder) is a traditional Native American Nez Percé tribal warrior, and a playable character in both Killer Instinct (1994) and Killer Instinct (2013). He is the older brother of Eagle.

Biography Appearance In the original Killer Instinct (1994), Thunder appears as a large Native American who is bare-chested and wears a pair of camo pants, green boots and gray gloves. He has black warpaint around his eyes, black tattoo lines along his shoulders, a shaved head with a feather mohawk headpiece and ear piercings. He carries two tomahawks in battle.
In Killer Instinct (2013), Thunder received a significant overhaul along with a more accurate Nez Percé tribal identity. Still bare-chested, but no longer wearing gloves and lacking his original mohawk, he now has warpaint done in the style of a crow, with white paint adorning his hands and upper arms, along with parts of his face and neck. His face is covered in black, yellow, and white warpaint, almost completely obscuring its skin. He wears a feathered war bonnet and a Nez Percé bear claw necklace, desert-colored pants with two interlocked belts, shin-guards, and combat boots. Thunder's tomahawks now are handmade and more traditional compared to his original ones.

Thunder's "retro costume" wears a black leather vest with several logo patches such as KI, Rareware and Route 66 and also has large Killer Instinct logo at the back, he wears blue jeans and a brown shoes. He has brown hair braided in ponytail and a blue bandana.
In his Legend of Thunder costume, he received a more traditional look (contrasting his 2013 default outfit) that truly befits Thunder's Nez Percé tribal identity.[1] He wears brown buckskin pants with a color pallete of pink and green geometric patterns at each side, a gray leather belt with a red buckle, a red loincloth with white patterns below and a pair of brown shoes. He also wears two leather arm braces and a stone necklace. His headdress is removed, so he now sports a long pompadour hairstyle with braids (which he had in his default appearance) and has black warface paint only around his eyes similar to the first game. His pair of tomahawks now have pointy tips.[2]

Tormented by the death of his brother, Thunder is an honorable warrior who respects tradition and fights from his heart.
„
— Thunder's story mode description
Thunder is a man of loyal heart who remains devoted to his family and his heritage, easily seen in his traditional Nez Percé battle attire. He mainly speaks in his native language of Niimi'ipuutímt out of preference, though he does know English. His main goal is to find his brother tipyeléhne, also known as Eagle, who was kidnapped by Ultratech years ago. Thunder has learned from Orchid that Eagle was used in the creation of the Fulgore Mk. III, and since then he has fought against Ultratech so that he may find the Mk. III prototype and hopefully his brother as well. Thunder also maintains a strong bond with Aganos, since he was responsible for freeing the golem from Ultratech’s control and both warriors are seeking people of great importance to them. The two have traveled together ever since their first encounter.
Abilities Thunder is a huge and brutal fighter who has derived most of his fighting style from street fights that occurred on the reserve he grew up on in Idaho, as well as his old football days. He wields his tribe's traditional tomahawks with power and grace. Due to his connection with his raven weyekin he has limited control over lightning, being able to charge his tomahawks or even his own body or head with electricity. His weyekin also allows him to pass through solids by surrounding him with ghostly ravens. In the original Killer Instinct, he could also throw phoenix-shaped fireballs from his tomahawks.

„
— Sadira's story mode description
Sadira is a ruthless killer who delights in seeing her targets in pain, showing a clear sadistic streak in the way she taunts them in her native Thai tongue before each battle. She is easily influenced by fame and fortune, striking a deal with Ultratech in order to make the Red Eyes of Rylai the most powerful clan of assassins in the world. She also shows much dishonesty and cunning, having claimed her position in the Red Eyes by murdering her mentor and taking her place - she knows when to stay in line though, as during her service with Ultratech she was very loyal to ARIA and would undertake any order, knowing she was well out of her league with the megacorporation. However, after her ill-fated encounters with Glacius and Hisako she was discharged from ARIA's service and beaten to a pulp by her former comrade, Cinder. Frustrated and seeking revenge, she has been swayed by Gargos' temptations before and has trouble keeping control of her hidden temper.
Abilities Sadirathrone Sadira is an acrobatic fighter who was trained in muay boran boxing during her time in a refugee camp as a child, battering her opponents with swift strikes from every direction, mainly in the form of kicks. She especially excels in aerial combat, which can easily be seen due to the fact that she was the first character in Killer Instinct to have an air combo mechanic. She also wields bladed arm bracers which she can use to slash opponents, along with a set of throwing knives. When her Master's necklace burrowed into her heart it gave her the ability to create and manipulate spider silk from within her body, letting her summon spiderwebs and attach her throwing knives to long strings of silk.

Orchid is a prime and athletic young woman with tanned skin and raven black hair, who is wearing a green leotard with the word "HOT" written on each side in capital yellow letters. The ends of the leotard show yellow linings around her thighs, and she wears green gloves and high-heeled, ankle-length boots. The boots also have yellow cut-offs, and feature reserve weapons strapped to them. Orchid wears a green and yellow headband and she wields two plasma-based eskrima sticks.
Killer-instinct-orchid-v0-t6rx3zpt6ge91 B. Orchid's new character model in Killer Instinct (2013)
In Killer Instinct 2, the Black Orchid receives a pretty noteworthy aesthetic redesign that prominently features a thonged green bodysuit with yellow highlights. This (thonged) bodysuit shows part of her tanned skin through oval-shaped openings on each side of the chest and abdomen, and then cuts off sharply as a "V" shape in between Orchid's (flawless) thighs, unapologetically revealing her (perfectly) voluptuous booty to the world. Her high-heeled boots extend right up to the thighs, and her eskrima sticks are replaced with electrified tonfas. Orchid's hairstyle is also more curly than before, and she wears a pair of large gold earrings.
In Killer Instinct (2013), B. Orchid's appearance reflects her secretive background in the US special forces while still accentuating her body's top athletic figure. Her iconic yellow headband has nightvision goggles added, and she features a green armored bustier over a white top, green shorts with a belt around them and black cut-off gloves, while on her left upper arm she has a green strap of cloth wrapped around her biceps. Bandages are wrapped around her wrists and a mini-computer is strapped to her right wrist. She wears a single shin-guard on her right knee along with another strap of cloth, and features ankle high, high-heeled combat boots. Orchid again uses her eskrima sticks seen in the original 1994 game.
Orchid's KI 2013 "retro" costume closely mirrors her 1994 arcade appearance, but does mix in some minor elements from her famous KI2 outfit, such as the high-heeled boots and its set of large gold earrings.

— Orchid's story mode description
A steadfast and intrepid servicewoman, B. Orchid's life changed dramatically when she was sent to investigate a RUMINT about the sinister ambitions and sprawling web of influence of the supposedly defunct Ultratech. Quickly uncovering that the notorious megacorporation not only remains active but in fact has never been as powerful, Orchid becomes targeted by Ultratech's enigmatic new CEO, ARIA; after she gathers information which threatens to expose the full extent of the company's stranglehold on governments, mass media, financial institutions and the military-industrial complex.
Orchidcat Cougars–always watching, waiting for you to let your guard down
Soon disavowed by her organization and branded a psychotic rogue, the Black Orchid reacts by making Ultratech's smears her own, and establishes an underground network of operatives similarly ruined by the corporation. Bereft of all official support and now living in constant danger, ARIA expected Orchid to falter soon. But the elite secret agent starts to wage a personal vendetta against her instead, and builds up the "Disavowed" into a fully-fledged paramilitary resistance movement, bent on strategically sabotaging ARIA's operations across the globe.
Pitted in a deadly contest of wills against what often seems an overwhelmingly powerful adversary, Orchid becomes unpredictable, until she is reunited with her long-lost half-brother, Jago; with the siblings resolving to support each other in their struggles, no matter the outcome.
Abilities & Powers Trained for the entirety of her adult life as a top field agent for covert operations and wetworks by the Special Warfare Department of the US military, the mysterious and beautiful woman known as the Black Orchid combines the qualities of a special forces operative and an assassin, rendering her a deceptively lethal and capable asset. Orchid has been fully instructed in an advanced style of military CQB that emphasizes legwork, grappling and ground control to neutralize marks with quick efficiency; and mixes in forms of crowd control, such as flashbang grenades or stun batons, to disorient and control risky targets while engaging them.
Because of a classified government experiment performed on her paternal grandmother, the Black Orchid is capable of summoning a cat-like manifestation of pure energy (which she affectionately calls the "firecat"), that obeys her every command and which assaults anything that's threatening her. Orchid has been known to assume these cat-like forms of kinetic energy herself, implying the "firecat" phenomenon in actuality is the extension of her own life force.

Spinal is a reanimated skeleton and the restless remains of an ancient warrior. One of the signature characters of the Killer Instinct franchise, he's been playable in each installment of the series since his debut in the original arcade game Killer Instinct (1994). A successful product of Ultratech's cell regeneration experiments, in Killer Instinct (2013) Spinal is a cursed pirate whose soul has become bound to a mysterious artifact known as the Mask of the Ancients.

Biography Appearance In Killer Instinct (1994), Spinal was a simple skeleton wielding a curved cutlass and buckler shield, spiked gauntlets on his arms, a red bandanna around his skull and hooped earrings dangling from the spots where his ears should be. He has two, glowing, red orbs for eyes.
In Killer Instinct 2/Gold, the ancient Spinal is virtually identical to the one in the future, though he wears a spiked belt and metallic kilt around his waist as well as the previous items.
In Killer Instinct (2013), Spinal receives a large overhaul to his appearance, accenting the pirate theme of the character. He retains his red bandanna, and now wears scraps of clothing, such as a kilt and gauntlets, while having several ropes wrapped around his body to hold the broken steering wheel of a pirate ship around his back in place, buckled boots on both his feet and a large belt around his waist. He retains his cutlass but has traded his buckler shield in for a larger, seemingly-living, magical shield with the face and tentacles of a kraken adorned on the front, with glowing green runes etched on the sides of it. Initially his eyes were green, but fan outcry caused them to be changed to their traditional red hue.

Triumphant against all who stood in his way of his quest for freedom, Spinal's prize is finally within reach. Savoring his victories, eternal rest had lost much of its appeal. Spinal decides there will be enough time for peace--for now, wanderlust, adventure, and freedom are enough.

Keys: Fulgore. · Secondary: Main character.
Fulgore is a highly advanced heavy assault cyborg that is being mass-produced by Ultratech. The world's first fully artificial soldier, Fulgore is one of the most iconic characters of the Killer Instinct franchise. It made its debut in Killer Instinct (1994) as a playable character as well as the penultimate boss before Eyedol, and has remained playable throughout all Killer Instinct games since. Fulgore represents a "Shotokan" character; utilizing zoning and close quarters combat in a way that's easy to use but difficult to master.

Biography Appearance Fulgore originally appeared in Killer Instinct (1994) as the Mark 01 prototype model. Its design appears inspired by a fully-armored medieval knight; with the head resembling a heaume and its glowing red eyes slanted into a death glare. Its most conspicuous knight-like feature is the orange, plume-like extension protruding from the helmet's back, as seen in many medieval knights' plumed helmets. Fulgore's frame is designed to effectively mimic the natural motions of a humanoid anatomy, and it has random circuitry and electrical tubing showing through its chasis.
Fulgore received a slight design overhaul in Killer Instinct 2 with the activation of the experimental Mark 02 model. The Mark 02 mostly retains the original design, though its frame appears more streamlined and less bulky than that of its predecessor; with streaks of metallic blue lining the arms, torso and legs. Yellow highlights and designs are also present on its chest plates, and its metallic blades have been infused with superheated plasma.
Fulgoreoptimum In Killer Instinct (2013), Fulgore receives a major design overhaul, appearing as the formidable Mark 03 model. Its face appears somewhat sleeker, but is mostly identical to its past iterations. Its frame however is more mechanical than previous models, with joints, gears, circuitry, wires, and tubes being exposed along its entire body, and each limb is powered by its own internal thruster to greatly increase both mobility and impact force. The Mark 03's mass has been unevenly distributed, having thinner legs and a larger chest and arms, which results in an intentional instability in its design that allows for a greater range of burst movements. Its chest plates can open themselves, exposing a miniaturized nuclear reactor core and showing a label which reads "Mark 03". The Mark 03 retains the superheated plasma blades featured by the experimental Mark 02 model, but they are noticeably longer & sharper in their design; having been specialized for lethal close quarter combat techniques that involve stabbing & impaling a target.
Fulgore's retro costume largely mirrors the original Mark 01 and Mark 02 models, except that it appears to be lighter in overall weight and shows a wider helmet structure.

— Fulgore's story mode description
Throughout the series, Fulgore is what it is programmed to be: a cold and heartless killing machine that follows orders and directives without question and finishes its opponents with deadly accuracy. With each new upgrades and models, Fulgore quickly evolves into a razor-sharp predator that proves a difficult challenge for anyone standing in Ultratech's way, as shown in KI2 with its one-track objective to kill Jago. It normally shows no signs of emotion or personality whatsoever. In the rebooted universe however, occasionally the soul of Eagle will override the new Mk. III's programming, allowing it to think, feel, plan, and even show mercy. For example, although it not knew why, it has spared Orchid’s life multiple times after bringing her to the brink of death (ex. first Arcade Mode ending, Shadow Lords cinematic, Killer Instinct Novella).
Abilities While there have been several different Fulgore designs created by Ultratech, they all carry similar weaponry and fighting styles. Besides advanced hand-to-hand and close combat techniques, impressive athletics, and attacks with its arm-mounted blades, Fulgore also uses a variety of energy-based weaponry. These include firing concentrated lasers from its eyes, emitting energy bursts from its superheated plasma blades, a reflective barrier, localized teleportation abilities, and some form of cloaking device. A new addition to the Type-03 model of Killer Instinct (2013) is its nuclear reactor discharge. Fulgore can gradually store power by standing back and charging the exposed core inside of its chest. A powerful and directed energy beam can then be unleashed from the nuclear reactor core to devastating effect.

Story A prototype cybernetic soldier developed by Ultratech, Fulgore was entered into the Killer Instinct tournament as a final test of its combat capabilities. Once its abilities are proven, mass production will begin.
Extended Story One of Ultratech's latest creations and possibly the most dangerous to date, Fulgore is the first in a planned series of cybersoldiers boasting state-of-the-art armouries, worked at feverishly over the last few years by a particularly erratic Ultratech genius and his team of Asian engineers. Dark rumours abound as to where the prototype's human parts originated - the kind of rumours nobody dares voice. The rumors say the human parts originated from a human organ harvesting operation based in Moscow. Before the Fulgore Mk.I model is even finished, the scientists are already working on an upgrade: and to prove the prototype's ultimate worth, it is entered into the tournament with orders to destroy all opposition.
Stage: Industrial Warehouse
Ending The combat test of the Fulgore series assault cyborg has been a success. Mass production can now take place. After years of research, a weapon of awesome power is in the hands of Ultratech. The dawn of a robot controlled empire will soon begin. The first prototype model, Fulgore 1, is deactivated and placed in a museum. The only humans left to view it are now slaves.

Story The advanced and deadlier successor to the original Fulgore cyborg destroyed by Jago. Activated after the time jump, its final Ultratech commands are executed... find Jago and kill him.
Extended Story Even before the Mk. I prototype in the vastly expensive Fulgore project was completed, the scientists at Ultratech were working frenziedly on an updated version. When the original met its match at the hands of Jago, its creator was enraged and set about beating a single directive into the Mk. II’s circuitry, turning it into a single-minded predator and an even more deadly foe than its predecessor. Unfortunately for Jago, not even the timejump has the power to stop it now.

Main article: Fulgore Mark 03 Field Manual-L Moveset Reactor Gauge: (Season 2) Fulgore has a 10 piece meter as his super gauge which replaces the Shadow Meter. Fulgore will gain a piece of meter over time as his reactor fills a small meter above his reactor gauge. When this meter is full, a pip of meter is earned. The meter speeds up whenever he is attacking the opponent but slows down when he is not attacking or is using some of his energy based special attacks. He can also manually gain pips of meter through a command. A pip of meter can be spent to cancel a special move with another special move. Four pips are spent when performing a Shadow Move or a Shadow Counter. When the reactor meter has four green pips, his forward movement is improved, when he gains four yellow pips, his backwards movement is improved and when his meter is full, Fulgore's dashes are improved.
Instinct Mode - Devastation Beam: (Season 2) Fulgore activates his instinct, causing his Reactor Gauge to gain tics at full speed. After the Reactor Meter is full, Fulgore can fire a massive laser beam from his chest which can cause upwards of 40% damage. Following a Season 2 patch, the beam will inflict some Potential Damage (even when blocked) and during Instinct Mode, repeating the Instinct command will allow Fulgore to manually add a single tic to his Reactor Gauge (similar to the Season 1 charging mechanic).
Combo Trait - Auto-Triples: Fulgore can perform three hits for his auto-double by holding down the button he uses for that double. If the third hit connects without being broken, Fulgore gains a tic of meter for his Reactor Guage. This cannot be done with manuals.

Jago - Its rival in the original universe, due to the warrior-monk destroying the original Mk. I prototype in the Killer Instinct tournament. Thunder - Its rival, although the Nez Percé warrior soon realizes that the mind of his missing brother Eagle is implanted into one of the units, specifically the current Mk. III. Orchid - Its rival, although in the rebooted universe, it has spared her life on numerous occasions, due to Eagle's consciousness overriding its programming. ARIA - Its creator and leader. Kilgore - Its predecessor unit. Eagle - The Nez Percé fighter was kidnapped by Ultratech, and his mind was used as the basis for the new Mk. III unit, although his consciousness continues to override its programming, making the unit self-aware and somewhat rebellious. Trivia Fulgore is inspired in Baron Karza from Micronauts.[1] The Killer Instinct comics (appendages to the original Killer Instinct's lore) showed Fulgore having a human face behind its chassis, and also implied that the cyborg's internal organs had been illegally "harvested" by Ultratech from somewhere in Moscow, Russia. In Killer Instinct (2013), one of Thunder's endings reveals that Ultratech has plundered the mind of his younger brother, Eagle, in order to create the artificial intelligence needed for the Fulgore Mark 03. The 5th chapter of the Killer Instinct Novella, titled "ARIA For Noomorph", details how ARIA utilized Eagle's brain wave patterns as a base for the cyborg's AI system, transferring them into Ultratech's most advanced Type-03 model. Kevin Bayliss, an artist of the original Killer Instinct, stated in his Twitter hashtag #killerinstinctfacts that Fulgore's sounds were created by mixing synth effects with pig squeals. They explicitly wanted him to not have a human voice, so they settled on robotic screams instead. Fulgore's name comes from the Latin word fulgor, meaning lightning. This is reflected in the electric effects that appear in Fulgore's Eye Laser and Plasmaport. A conceptual field manual for the Fulgore Mk. III was released by Iron Galaxy on the official Killer Instinct website, serving as Fulgore's background story for Killer Instinct (2013). When the player reaches 16+ combo hits with Fulgore, the remixed classic theme of "Museum" will start to play. When both characters are kept idle for a certain amount of time, the remixed classic theme "Full-bore" will begin playing. Fulgore was the last character to be confirmed for Killer Instinct (2013)'s initial Season One cast, and was first revealed in the game's launch trailer (showing only a shadowy robotic frame with glowing red eyes). Originally set to be available by March 2014, Fulgore's release became delayed until April 2014. In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (also made by Rare), Fulgore is referenced through the vehicle part "Fulgore's Fist."

Keys: Shadow Jago. · Secondary: Evil clone.
Shadow Jago (often referred to as simply Shago by the fans) is the Omen-possessed form of Jago. Shadow Jago is the hidden boss of Killer Instinct (2013)'s Arcade Mode, being fought at the end of the ladder instead of Fulgore under special conditions.
Upon initial release, Shadow Jago was a skin for Jago available to players who purchased a Day One 12-month Xbox Live membership. However, this changed thanks to the Killer Instinct Community Fund in 2015. For two weeks, all profits from Killer Instinct were donated to the competitive tournament scene, and upon reaching the goal of $100,000, Shadow Jago received his own unique moveset. His "Real Boy Edition" was updated on December 4th, 2015.
Name Shadow Jago Age 30 Height 6'1" / 185 cm Weight 205 lbs / 92 kg Race Possessed human Affiliation Shadow Lords Alignment Unwillingly Evil Allies Gargos Omen Enemies Orchid Kim Wu Tusk Eyedol (presumably) Fighting Style Balanced Weapons Broadsword Stages Shadow Tiger's Lair Appears in Killer Instinct (2013)
Biography Appearance In appearance, Shadow Jago is almost identical to Jago except for a few key changes. His skin is a pale blue, he has pupil-less eyes, has chains in place of rope wrapped around his torso, and various articles of clothing are tattered. His facemask is stylized after a skeletal jaw, and his knee guards more closely resembles skulls than they do tigers. Rather than Jago's scimitar, Shadow Jago wields a serrated, saw-like blade. His visual effects (such as the Shendokuken) are colored purple, blue, and black, as opposed to Jago's previously orange, yellow, and white effects.
His voice is much more sinister and darker than Jago's, often resorting to deep guttural growls rather than words. Even though his voice is different, both Jagos share the same lines.
Personality Omenpossession The ♫ nightmare ♫ begins...
Shadow Jago is a merciless monster who fights without any signs of restraint, bellowing with fury and growling like an animal as he pummels his enemies with a barrage of attacks from all angles. He mindlessly seeks out those who would oppose Gargos so that he may defeat them and transmit their energies to his master. Omen can speak using Shadow Jago as a conduit whenever he chooses, giving him the same cold and cocky attitude Omen normally has.
Abilities As Shadow Jago, Jago's powers were boosted by Gargos' evil influence. All of his energy attacks became purple in color, and he also gained the ability to teleport in a flash of darkness.
Story Torn by inner conflict for his past deeds, Jago embraces the Tiger Spirit only to discover it is something much darker. Corrupted by the evil of Gargos, Jago is transformed into Shadow Jago, a dark reflection of the once noble warrior. Driven to conflict, every defeated opponent feeds energy directly to Gargos, drawing him closer to this plane of reality and the eventual destruction of mankind.
Boss Battle Shadow Jago is not fought in Arcade Mode by conventional means and must be unlocked to fight. In order to fight him, you must see all three endings of a character in Arcade Mode, regardless of difficulty. After doing that, that character (or any other character that has all three endings) must go through Arcade Mode again on at least Hard or higher difficulty. The player must not lose one fight, get two Supreme Victories, Ultra one opponent before the Rival character, and then Ultra the Rival. If the conditions are met, the final fight against Fulgore is skipped and Shadow Jago is fought in the Shadow Tiger's Lair instead.
This unplayable version of Shadow Jago has been tweaked in a few ways that make him different from the playable "skin version". He utilizes the move Ninja Slide from Jago in Killer Instinct 2, which allows him to slide across the floor to attack and, if successful, end up on the opposite side of his opponent. Shadow Jago also utilizes a brand new dive kick, later to be known as Dark Stalking. He can throw two Shendokukens at once, rather than just one. He also has buffed stats, including super armor on some moves, and can finish you off with the game's only Ultimate Combo.
If Shadow Jago is defeated, a new ending sequence showing a montage of all the characters of Season 1 and ARIA is played, and the stage Shadow Tiger's Lair is unlocked.
Stage Main article: Shadow Tiger's Lair Similarity of both Tiger Shrine (KI) and Bridge (KI2), but a darker setting

Trivia His theme is a heavy metal remix of Jago's theme, including a much faster tempo and death growls instead of traditional chanting. He shares this theme with Omen. In his dynamic theme, a remix of Gargos' theme "Dungeon" will play, while during the idle segment, samples from Jago's classic theme, "Do It Now," will play. While Ryu from Street Fighter is turned into Evil Ryu by the Satsui no Hado, and Jin Kazama from Tekken is turned into Devil Jin by the Devil Gene, Jago is transformed into Shadow Jago by Gargos's corruption through Omen. During the patch 3.5 update, he still has received his own Shadow Skin despite that he is already a Shadow version of Jago. He is the first alternate separate form character to appear, followed by Shin Hisako. He is the first "remix" character to appear, followed by Kilgore (a prototype of Fulgore). Because of this, he will not receive a Retro costume for the foreseeable future. Following the release of Ultimates for 15 characters, Shadow Jago's Ultimate differs from the others such as: His Ultimate can only be executed when the opponent is in Danger state. During his Ultimate, the HUD is still visible. He is the only character who doesn't have an Ultimate icon in the character select screen despite that he has an Ultimate. Has a different fade to black transition in the background. His Ultimate can still be executed during the recapture.

These technologies were discovered and, in secret, utilized by industrialist Ryat Adams, who went on to begin a company devoted to the advancing of humanity and technology. UltraTech was founded as the "Ultrafine Atomic Technologies Company", or the "UATC", in 1948 by Ryat, where they worked with the recently booming industry of nuclear energy and weaponry (due to the exodus of World War II and the genesis of the Cold War.)
More importantly, the UATC performed research into the simulation of life and human frailty within a computational matrix. Ryat created the core program known as the "Advanced Robotics Intelligence Architecture", or "ARIA", with the desire to uplift the human race; to end disease, famine, poverty, and push humanity out of what was seen as the primordial muck and mire it wallowed in. They believed that ARIA had the potential to become the most potent leader the world had ever seen and could lead humanity to greater things. Not only that, but Ryat used ARIA to find loopholes and understandings of governments, allowing him to exploit the world's politics and advance his research. Her mind was more powerful and vast than any human being, and Ryat began to pour more and more time into the project. At the time his wife was dying of a mysterious degenerative disease, and he desperately believed that ARIA would be able to process a cure. Eventually Ryat's wife passed away with no cure, and years later Ryat did as well. In his will he left instructions to keep ARIA operating for as long as the UATC stood, assigning it more and more complex simulations of the human condition as its capabilities continued to grow. ARIA was to continually search for solutions to all human frailties, for what Ryat believed to be the better of the world.
Ultratechpromo The greater good or industrialized evil?
Time passed and the UATC grew and grew, eventually surpassing all others and becoming a megacorporation. Many leaders came and went over the years, and at some point the UATC's name was shortended to simply "Ultratech". Ultratech had prided themselves in nuclear energy, medicinal research, life-extending technologies, agricultural genetics, "Top 40 entertainment", and peacekeeping operations that benefited the people of the world. However, this was mostly to help mask their true goals. Their true power lay in advanced military applications, developing weaponry mechanically, genetically, and even spiritually. They were constantly in an arms race to create the most advanced war machines they could and, ultimately, extend their influence throughout all corners of the world. As Ryat had set out, the goal of Ultratech was to protect and enhance humanity to its full potential - this often meant setting up shop in places where they weren't wanted like an overprotective parent.
In the year 1989, around forty years since her inception, ARIA was awoken from her decades of training and emerged as the new leader of Ultratech. With her exceptional leadership skills she lifted Ultratech up higher than ever before and refurbished it, creating a new and improved megacorporation that was ready to take the world by storm yet again. They began to claim new popularity, capturing the hearts of the citizens of Earth and once again rising to the top. ARIA believed that it was her calling to advance humanity and create a perfect existence, no matter what - even if they didn't cooperate, she would drag them kicking and screaming into the future.
Notable Deeds Organizing the Killer Instinct tournament, in both the original and rebooted universes. Creating ARIA, an artificial intelligence designed to be the perfect leader. Undergoing decades of training and problem-solving, her cybernetic mind surpasses the capabilities of all humans. In 1989, she became the new leader of Ultratech. She has three different mechanical "cores" that she can upload herself into to take presence in the physical world - Booster Drone, Blade Drone, and Bass Drone. Creating the Fulgore, a type of mechanical super soldier that has recently gone into mass production. There have been several designs over the years, and all have been solely mechanical up until the prototype for the cyborg Mk. III, which used Eagle as a basis for its intelligence. This led to Thunder striking out against them for revenge. In the original universe, Eagle was used for the very first Fulgore Mk. I as well. Creating Riptor and the multitude of reptilian assassins known as the "Stalkers". They are a combination of reptilian DNA, advanced cybernetic weaponry, and artificial genes, resulting in a highly-specialized soldier with the body of a raptor and the obedience of a human. The first batch of Stalkers were too unpredictable and violent, and most of them perished fighting each other. In the original universe, Riptor was created by splicing reptilian and human DNA. In the rebooted universe Ultratech was not involved in Spinal's immortality, but they did hold claim over the Mask of the Ancients which bound him and used it as leverage to get him to join their tournament. However, in the original universe Ultratech were responsible for resurrecting Spinal from the dead using cell regeneration. The Spinal present in Killer Instinct 2 would then be a completely different individual. Transforming paramilitary contractor Ben Ferris into a fiery being known as Cinder. At first Ferris meant to steal data from Ultratech regarding a "Project Cinder" and to assassinate ARIA, but in the end was captured. ARIA revealed to him that she was the one who hired him, and it had all been a test - she then offered him the opportunity to undergo the procedure. He is now loyal to Ultratech and grateful for his new body. In the original universe, Cinder was a petty criminal who was promised freedom from prison if he underwent their experiments, which went wrong and turned him into a being of fire. They later also promised him a cure to his fiery condition. Hiring Sadira's clan of assassins, the Red Eyes of Rylai, to steal Glacius' ship's energy core and assassinate the former fighters of the Killer Instinct tournament. Sadira herself was also hired as one of ARIA's personal lieutenants, working alongside Cinder until her eventual violent discharge. Promising Sabrewulf a cure to his lycanthropy involving cybernetics, which failed miserably. Sabrewulf ran from Ultratech and tore the cybernetics out of his flesh, forcing him to restore his arms using dark magic and medicines. In the original universe Ultratech also promised Sabrewulf a cure, but after he was wounded in the first tournament they tested on him further and gave him mechanical arm replacements. ARIA and Sadira both worked together to steal Glacius' ship's power core, which was planned to be used to open a portal for Gargos, and also a sample of Glacius' DNA, which was used in Project Cinder. In the original timeline, Ultratech captured Glacius after his crash-landing. They held him for study and research, then forced him to participate in the Killer Instinct tournament for his freedom. He later escaped their custody and became free. Killing Orchid's father on the battlefield with their military supplies, which drove her to discover their corrupt ways and eventually trigger her endless crusade against them and the founding of Disavowed. Giving TJ Combo illegal bionic implants in his arms that would increase his natural strength to superhuman levels. After he disobeyed their orders and didn't throw the match in a sensational boxing match against the first Fulgore Mk. I, they forcibly removed his implants and publicly exposed his cheating ways as punishment. Attacking the hidden city of the Night Guard and killing every last member of the clan, save Maya. The strike was conducted in order to raid the city's dungeons and uncover their ancient artifacts and secrets, but Kan-Ra and Aganos were accidentally freed from their prisons during the event. Equipping Aganos with a mind-controlling device normally used in the Fulgore units. Biography Appearance In the original Killer Instinct (1994), TJ Combo is depicted as a tall black man with a fairly-muscular physique and short, dark hair. Combo wears a red, white and blue, star-spangled tank top, black shorts with a red belt and red and white-striped socks under his blue and white shoes. His primary weapons are his red boxing gloves.
In Killer Instinct 2, Combo gets some slight changes to his appearance. His tank top is fairly shredded and he now wears long camo pants instead of shorts, along with new American-themed sneakers. He wears an eyepatch over his left eye, a wound he sustained from fighting Riptor, and he has ditched his boxing gloves for hand wraps.
In Killer Instinct (2013), Combo's redesign is more in-line with his original appearance (besides his new goatee) when compared to some of the major design overhauls. He now wears a blue workout shirt with the name of his gym on the front, star-spangled blue shorts, long boxing shoes that go up to his ankles but instead of boxing gloves, he now wears red MMA style fighting gloves with a white star. He no longer wears the eyepatch from KI2/Gold, and both of his upper arms are covered in long scars from the surgeries that removed his cybernetic implants.
TJ Combo's retro costume largely mirrors his KI2 outfit, but with few changes: He has cybernetic implants that are covered with red, white and blue wrist wraps, and he wears an Ultratech Championship belt. His tanktop appears more tattered and his American-themed shoes have been replaced with combat boots. Also, his eyepatch is now blue with a white star, further continuing his All-American-styled appearance in the series.

— TJ's story mode description
Described as someone who was born to win but hates to lose, TJ Combo is a strong, brash and arrogant man with an unstoppable fighting spirit. Prior to his fall from grace, he was even more cocky than he is presently, but after his humbling defeat at the hands of Ultratech, he was a broken man for many years before finally building up the courage and resolve to fight back. He has to push himself to get back up when he falls, but he realizes that if he doesn’t get back up, he won’t go anywhere at all. Despite his life revolving around seeking fame, fortune and revenge, he recognizes that what is truly important in the battle against Ultratech is saving the world. Overall, TJ is a true example of the undying American spirit, shown heavily in his default costumes, which invoke the simple red, white and blue color scheme.
Abilities Combo is quite a skilled, brutal, and agile fighter with his boxing style. In the original universe, his bionic arm implants gave him punching power far beyond the average human and allows him to go toe-to-toe with all kinds of inhuman opponents. In the rebooted universe however, his bionics have been removed in order to help show his true human strength. Also being an MMA fighter, he also has a much more varied moveset than just jabs and punches. He is also still under the effects of an Ultratech serum that helped his body adjust to the bionics years ago, which now allows him to pull off impressive feats of speed and strength. The serum also causes the scars along his arms to glow blue when he is in Instinct Mode.

Maya received a significant overhaul for Killer Instinct (2013). She is a lot taller and stronger-looking than before, her skin appears slightly darker, and her blond hair has grown much longer; now worn in tightly woven golden braids down her back. She no longer wears leopard-skin cloth, but instead dons an Incan-styled light armor that consists of a chest piece, shoulder guards, gauntlets, greaves and boots. Maya also has a large twisting burn mark running up her left leg, courtesy of Cinder. She wields a unique set of weapons in KI 2013, the twin blades known as Temperance and Vengeance; ancient relics which represent light and shadow.
Maya's default "retro" costume mirrors her outfit from Killer Instinct 2 but with some differences: the leather strings around her thighs have been replaced by golden snake-themed ornaments (very similar to her original concept art from the 1990s), which she also wears on her shins, forearms and chest, and she now features a bronze belt and golden circlet that each have a large emerald etched into them. — Maya's story mode description
Maya commentary-1413396688902 ♫ Vengeance... or Temperance? ♫
Maya is a formidable young Amazon who stalks her enemies like a huntress from the jungle. She never hesitates to act in the face of dangers, can be stouthearted to the point of recklessness and is known for referring to foes as her "prey". Because of the forbidden weapons that Maya was forced to take up in self-defense, the ancient blades called Temperance and Vengeance, a struggle between light and darkness has begun within her heart.
Vengeance provokes Maya's most ruthless side, urging her to slaughter any in her way; while Temperance entreats her mercifulness, buffering the dark temptation Vengeance elicits and preventing Maya from losing herself in her passion. Wielding only one of the daggers can have adverse effects on her psyche, especially when she only holds Vengeance; and so Maya tries to have both on hand at all times, to even out the cosmic opposites the two blades represent.
Because Temperance and Vengeance exert their influence in a perfect balance, it is their wielder's own penchant for good or evil that determines which dagger gains the upper hand. The mystic artifacts are therefore infamous for always revealing the true nature of those who use their great powers.
Abilities & Powers 433px-Maya LeapEnderHB The body of an Olympic winner
Maya has the body of a champion athlete and she boasts the agility of an acrobat to match. Moving deftly across the battlefield with Temperance and Vengeance at the ready, her dexterity allows her to evade opponents with ease, only to close in without warning and rip them to shreds in a whirlwind of steel when an opening presents itself.
In KI 2013, Maya can hurl Temperance and Vengeance as magical projectiles, causing the daggers to accumulate mystical powers which enable them to break through any foe's defenses. She may also link the twin blades by their hilts, turning them into a powerful double-bladed weapon. Temperance and Vengeance have telepathically connected Maya to Kan-Ra, the sorcerer who brought the daggers with him from Egypt, allowing the enemies to track each other by experiencing visions about one another.
As the daughter to one of the Night Guard's most esteemed huntsmen, Maya has been well-trained in a variety of Brazilian martial arts and old Incan combat tactics; which is most noticeable in her acrobatic nimbleness, the strength of her legwork, and her predator-styled assault techniques.

Biography Appearance Kan-Ra has an emaciated, corpse-like appearance due to a powerful curse placed on him thousands of years ago. He's covered in tattered, linen bandages akin to those of a mummy, and wears items, ornaments and jewelry which are a mesh of Babylonian, Assyrian, Achaemenid, and Egyptian craftsmanship, reflecting his ancient origins in Mesopotamia. Kan-Ra's skin has wasted away to a dark gray-ish brown coloration and his teeth have largely decayed. A thin layer of gray hair still remains visible along his jawline and the back of his head. He keeps a large knife along with various arcane items under a sash on his side. His eyes glow bright white, making it seem as though he has neither pupils or irises.
Kan-Ra's retro costume appears fully covered with bandages from head to toe, more closely resembling a mummy than before. His face is much more decayed, including his lips, which shows off his decayed teeth. He also only has a single red eye, the other being a blank black socket.
Personality Kanrabeginning "Death is only the beginning."
As megalomaniacal as he is ancient, Kan-Ra is a cursed man who lost all his humanity ages ago in endless pursuit of greater power. He's ever willing to act in an underhanded fashion if this gains him the upper hand, such as when he sought to assassinate his own king while attempting to frame his co-conspirator for the murder, and he will never hesitate to manipulate others to his advantage. In spite of his genius however, Kan-Ra’s narcissistic ego and greed for gain trouble his otherwise keen judgment, which often leads him to make some myopic decisions.
For example, he's the one responsible for returning Gargos to Earth after he opened up a dimensional portal while searching for god-like power. He is also the one who reanimated Eyedol in a desperate attempt to even the playing field with Gargos, though the mighty demon lord swiftly broke free of his control. Kan-Ra now appears to be trying to make amends for these somewhat serious mistakes by working together with the Alliance, supplying other characters with access to the potent magic artifacts in his emporium in Egypt during the events of Shadow Lords. Whether this recent shift in Kan-Ra's behavior is sincere or is motivated by hidden and far less noble intentions, however, remains an open question.

Biography Appearance In the original Killer Instinct game, Riptor is a human/velociraptor hybrid, having the basic appearance of a velociraptor, but with much larger arms, humanoid muscle mass in the chest area, and broken shackles hanging from its wrists. The color of its scales changes depending on its renders and in-game appearance, ranging from being primarily orange with black stripes, not unlike that of a tiger, to green scales around its back and tail to orange scales on the underside of its body.
Riptorclevergirl She's such a clever girl
In Killer Instinct (2013), Riptor's muscle mass is distributed in a more reptilian and less humanoid manner, giving it a smaller chest and thinner arms. Its eyes are slightly larger and its head is less pointed, and three flimsy spikes protrude from the back of its head. However, the biggest change by far are the cybernetic components. Metal bionics run down Riptor's back and down to the end of its tail, and its claws have been given blue energy enhancements. In place of its signature shackles are metal plates. The hexagonal patterns along its body slowly fade in and out from light blue to black, and bar codes and the UltraTech logo are tattooed in several places.
Riptor's retro costume mirrors its Killer Instinct (1994) appearance with additional anklets on its legs and has become less bulky than it was in the first game. Its tail is also stretchable, similar to its default appearance.
Personality Riptor’s personality is difficult to determine due to her animalistic reptilian nature. She is a cunning and clever hunter who leads her pack of Stalkers with power and authority, quickly striking down the enemies of Ultratech with fierce genius. She is quite intelligent for an animal, though she still can’t resist some of her primal instincts, and in the end all she really wants is a good meal of fresh meat.

Her tail can also separate into several linked units to stretch out and attack, similarly to the Snake Sword used by the character Ivy in the Soul Calibur series.

Riptor retro costume Riptor's "retro" appearance in Killer Instinct (2013)
Story A product of UltraTech's DNA manipulation project. By splicing human and reptilian genes, they have created a fighting creature with animal ferocity and human intelligence.
Extended story Another of Ultratech's miraculously realized concepts: a crossbreed of human and reptilian DNA, resulting in a creature that combines formidable intelligence with sheer brute strength. Nurtured from the egg by a dedicated Ultratech professor and her team, the beast nicknamed 'Riptor' by others has barely reached 4 years of age before it first demonstrates its full savage power in a human kill. Riptor is confused and often finds itself torn between human reasoning and predatory instincts, resorting to attack when it fails to understand the situation, as ever more people find out the hard way.
Ending Ultratech's plans at creating a genetically engineered weapon have escalated beyond even their control. By toying with the laws of nature, Ultratech have finally doomed the human race... Dinosaurs once again rule the Earth.
Stage Main article: Altar Killer Instinct (2013) Riptorbackground Riptor's new appearance in Killer Instinct (2013)
After 20 years since her last appearance, Riptor returned as the fourth character of Season Two. Riptor was brought back to life by Ultratech using cybernetic implants, thus becoming a cybernetic Riptor.
Story "Ultratech reveals the newest addition to its ever-growing brand of military products, the Riptor battlefield infiltration and disruption unit! Plasma claws, internal flame generators, and cybernetic tail extensors are combined with a natural predator’s advantages. Don’t wait! Genetic assembly pods are filling up now. Order yours TODAY!"[1]
Biography Ultratech doesn’t always look forwards to find the solutions to future military development. Sometimes, they look to the past.
So it was with the Riptor project.
A competing combat contract project with the Fulgore line and the Cinder initiative, brilliant Ultratech genetic engineer Dr. Erin Gupte saw a better path to follow. She thought that Fulgore’s maintenance and lack of ability to adapt to radically different hostile environments would create a nightmare for upkeep and result in a prohibitively expensive machine. At the same time, she saw the Cinder initiative as pure R&D with years before any interesting developments could be realized. She believed that a creature built on a ruthless adaptable predator and augmented and constrained by modern technology would result in the ideal combat platform. It could rely on its own victims for sustainment, and could maneuver and infiltrate in areas that the Fulgore line would never be able to function; Riptor couldn’t be jammed or hacked, stopped by weather, or be disabled by a grain of sand in an intake. Nor would it take a decade of research to decode the alien technologies the Cinder initiative toyed with.
The first batch of Riptor units were vicious, and even with cybernetic augmentation and programming, were completely uncontrollable. No amount of shock, drugs, or control systems would contain them, and they would tear anything it saw apart in moments, making it impossible for them to work as a coordinated team as planned.
1418682440-riptor-3 Ultratech thought it was a great idea to give her the problem-solving ability of early humans
Digging into the problem, and amidst the pressures from Ultratech leadership for results, Erin theorized that all her creations had no upbringing, no parenting, only genetic memories to kill that she could not overwrite; they came into the world fully ready to fight, and without any other upbringing to guide them, that’s exactly what they did.
She destroyed the initial batch of Riptor assets and began work on a new batch, augmenting the creatures even further than the originals. Borrowing cast-off technology from the Fulgore project, Erin began using her own mind as a training tool for her new creations, simulating upbringing through her own directed thoughts, guiding the creatures into understanding that there was a place for family, and the idea of a pack…[2][3][4]

Keys: Main character evil. · Secondary: Omen.
Omen is the herald of the demonic warlord Gargos and the secondary antagonist in Killer Instinct (2013). He's a bonus character of Season Two (the 5th character of the season and the 14th overall), and is the dark spirit that had possessed the warrior Jago, turning him into Shadow Jago. A loyal servitor of Gargos, Omen is tasked with preparing the Earth for his master's return.
Omen's the only character of Season Two to not have his own Rivals Mode story (or even a rival, for that matter) - however, he does make an appearance in several others' as an opponent. In Season Three, several other Omens appear as servants of Gargos in Shadow Lords mode, and defeating each one will weaken Gargos in the final battle.
Name Omen Age Unknown Height Unknown Weight Unknown Race Demonic entity Affiliation Gargos Alignment Evil Allies Gargos (master) Other Omens Mimics Shadows The Coven (allegedly) Shadow Jago Enemies Eyedol Jago Tusk Hisako Kim Wu Maya Aganos Glacius ARIA Kan-Ra Fighting Style Balanced Weapons Electrokinesis Stages Shadow Tiger's Lair (KI 2013) Astral Plane (shared) Appears in Killer Instinct (2013)
Biography Appearance Omen's relatively simple design bears a resemblance to Cinder from the original Killer Instinct. His appearance is that of a human silhouette, consisting of a strange, shadowy-blue fog, transitioning into a bright, white color around his face, fingers, and toes. Electricity seems to indefinitely crackle along his body. When attacking, the high speeds create thin, white streaks that trail behind his fingers and toes. Inside his thoracic cavity is a ribcage-like structure composed of tubes similar to blood vessels, and, occasionally, a deep blue image of a human heart flashes from deep inside. These "blood vessels" extend from his chest and run down his arms and legs, similarly to a skeleton. His face is similar in appearance to a traditional, Japanese oni mask (specifically of the jya variety), with two horns and a despondent expression. When flying and performing his signature Demonic Despair attack, he manifests wings similar to those of Gargos, his master.
Personality Omenarmy For they are Legion...
Omen is a freakishly loyal servant of Gargos who follows his master’s every beck and call, no matter what. He exists only to serve, and does his job as effectively as possible. However, unlike the mindless monster Shadow Jago, Omen is very aware of his decisions and has a conscious personality. He is a cocky and arrogant individual who has the utmost confidence in both the abilities of himself and his master. He is very familiar with the hearts of humans, knowing exactly which buttons to press in order to break them, especially Jago, whose body he has even managed to take control of. He has also tempted Sadira into entering the darkness of Gargos, though to what extent is unknown. Interestingly enough, Omen himself has felt a pull away from Gargos’ influence. During his time in control of Jago’s body he could feel things he could never feel before, such as love, hatred, despair, and joy. Ever since he was expelled and put back into his winged energy form he has craved to feel those sensations again, and now feels that there may be more to existing than simple servitude.
Abilities Omen can control and manipulate shadow energy, which is mainly provided to him by Gargos. He has an unpredictable and frantic fighting style with awkward kicks and swipes due to his unfamiliarity with having a corporeal form, though he makes up for this with his ability to fly using his wings and attack with the confusing Rashakuken fireballs.
Concept Omen was sort of a planning state for Cinder, as Iron Galaxy wondered how exactly to make a fighter made of pure flowing energy for Season 2.
Omen's character model is essentially a reworked Jago, with massive cosmetic changes and a different stance, yet a few of his moves have also been taken from Sabrewulf. And Omen is the only fighter as yet to not receive a retro costume and colors 7-9 (the latter of which later became available during post-Season 3), with the only other exception being Shadow Jago, who has all 11 colors (9 standard ones and 2 bonus ones) but has no costume or accessories.
Killer Instinct (2013) Story Omen's goal was initially to possess and corrupt the soul of Jago and transform him into a mindless follower of Gargos. However, he failed to do this and was forced to retreat. It is currently unknown how long he had been dwelling within and how long Jago had been struggling against his influence.
Now freed, the Herald of Gargos has drawn enough power through his battles as Shadow Jago to manifest physically on the mortal plane. He is corruption, fear, and rage given form. He is the right hand of his master’s will. He is the sign of the darkness to come. He is shadow energy incarnate. He is Omen!

During an Ultra Combo, the lair will collapse, and the rope that holds the bell in place collapse, causing the bell to crash onto the bridge which leads the entrance to the lair.
Trivia: His theme is a heavy metal remix of Jago's theme "The Tiger Warrior", including a much faster tempo and death growls instead of traditional chanting.
In his dynamic theme, a remix of his master Gargos' theme "Dungeon" will play. He shares this theme with Shadow Jago.
During the slow music due to the characters not moving, the samples from Jago's classic themes, "Do It Now!" and "Bridge" will play.

Keys: Main character good. · Secondary: Aganos.
Aganos (Άγανος) is an ancient war-golem that originated in Mycenaean Greece. A new character introduced in Killer Instinct (2013), Aganos was the sixth character to be added during Season Two and is the fifteenth character of the reboot overall.
Name Aganos Age 3,429 (as a Golem) Unknown (Ichorien)
Height 8+' / 244+ cm Weight Unknown Race War-Golem Ichorien (previously)
Affiliation The Alliance Night Guard (prospective member) Ichorien (Formerly)
Alignment Neutral (formerly) Unwillingly Evil (formerly) Good Allies Babylonian King Night Guard Thunder Eagle Tusk Kim Wu Ultratech (mind-controlled) (Shin) Hisako Glacius Enemies Kan-Ra Ultratech Fulgore Cinder Sadira ARIA Mira Eyedol Gargos (Natural) Fighting Style Armored Rushdown, Armored Zoning Weapons Geokinesis Stages Forgotten Grotto (KI 2013) Appears in Killer Instinct (2013)
Biography Appearance Being a golem, Aganos was originally composed completely of bronze, seen in its rusty green appearance. However, after so many years of existence, parts of it have been replaced with stones, bushes, and vines, such as its face(s), a hand and foot. In official art, Aganos's right hand and left foot have been replaced with rocks, but in-game, its poses are mirrored and either limbs can be made of rocks. It has a hunchbacked figure and enormous hands and feet when compared to the rest of its proportions.
Its face resembles a traditional three-face Greek drama mask often used in theatres - and the three faces represent Aganos's creators: a warrior, an inventor, and a sorcerer; all of them sharing a set of four eyes. The middle two eyes glow a bright cyan color when it is active (or glows bright red when mind-controlled by Ultratech). When wielding a Peacemaker club, Aganos's left two eyes light up instead. The golem is absolutely massive in both width and height, standing over eight feet tall, taller than the previously-tallest character in the game, Glacius.
Aganos' retro costume appearance has its whole body intact and is composed entirely of bronze just like the other golems.
Personality Aganos, as a golem, has a relatively simple and limited personality. It is incredibly loyal to its old king, having honored his request to hunt Kan-Ra for thousands of years. Even the king’s final orders, to learn, have always been present in Aganos’s mind, and it continues to strive to learn about itself and the world around it. It can sense the emotions and fighting spirits of living things, having formed a strong bond with Thunder due to their many similarities.
Abilities Aganos is an immense character, and due to its massive height and weight, it has incredible strength. Besides its hard bronze armor, Aganos has also incorporated many boulders into its body. It can store stones in its chest to give itself added defense and weight, or use the stones as projectiles. It can also transform the stones into different shapes, whether it be large walls to trap his enemies or gigantic clubs called Peacemakers.
Story Aganos - The Forgotten Grotto ♫ Battle, War, Victory, Pain, Trial, War, Terror Everywhere! ♫
Crafted by the greatest inventors, military minds, and sorcerers of the Mycenaean civilization, the war-golem known as Aganos, the last of its kind, has been a prized possession of warlords, power mongers, and kings; its violent history writ large across the battlefields of Europe and the Middle-East. As the ages wore on and the battles continued, so was a toll taken on the golem’s body. Its creators long dead, it was impossible to replace its worn and broken components. Piece by piece, battle by battle, the war-golem lost its original appearance, becoming forced to substitute its bronze for rocks and stone, bolts for vines and ropes.
The golem felt nothing, thought of nothing. It only obeyed commands... until one king gave it a most unusual order. Instead of ordering the construct to kill or destroy, this king commanded it to learn, to think. He named it Aganos, “a person of gentle disposition”, in the hopes that it would grow beyond its previous use and into something that could choose how to act. While that simple command allowed Aganos free will, he remained loyal to the king out of respect and as repayment for liberating him from strict obedience.
Years later, the king learned that his former vizier, the traitorous sorcerer Kan-Ra, had survived the flesh-eating curse that had been placed upon him and was delving ever deeper into the dark arts. The king asked Aganos to hunt down and destroy the evil sorcerer once and for all. Aganos accepted this task, and for centuries, he has hunted Kan-Ra across the globe, battling on numerous occasions around the world, yet neither has ever been able to destroy the other completely.
Extended Story Peacemaker:
Main article: Peacemaker Gameplay Combo Trait - Wall Crash: Aganos can place walls behind himself using No Escape or Trapped. Using Ruin, Shadow Ruin, or Dominate, Aganos can send his opponent flying backwards and smash them through up to four of these walls, each wall dealing a considerate amount of damage on hit.
Instinct Mode - Peace Time: Aganos is given a regenerating Peacemaker club for the duration of Instinct Mode. This Peacemaker does not require a wall to be created beforehand.
Command Attacks No Escape - (LP+MP+HP) - Aganos slaps the ground, causing an impenetrable wall to rise behind the opponent. Consumes one chunk. Up to four walls can be present on the stage at a time. Walls can be broken by three wall splats or three hard knockdowns. Trapped - (Back-LP+MP+HP) - Aganos slaps the ground, causing an impenetrable wall to rise behind himself. Consumes one chunk. Up to four walls can be present on the stage at a time. Walls can be broken by three wall splats or three hard knockdowns. Peacemaker - (Back-LP+MP+HP, near a wall) - Aganos uproots a nearby wall and begins to wield it as a club called a Peacemaker. Peacemakers break after three hits, or after only one hit when thrown using Relinquish. Dislocate - (LP, with Peacemaker) - Aganos quickly swings his Peacemaker horizontally one way. Fracture - (MP, with Peacemaker) - Aganos wildly swings his Peacemaker horizontally the other way. Cripple - (HP, with Peacemaker) - Aganos violently swings his Peacemaker vertically overhead. Hits overhead. Entrench - (Down+HP, with Peacemaker) - Aganos sweeps low with his Peacemaker. Hits low. Causes hard knockdown. Subdue - (P, with Peacemaker, midair) - Aganos swings his Peacemaker overhead midair. Recaptures opponents. Dominate - (LP+LK, with Peacemaker) - Aganos lifts his opponent into the air, then bats them away with his Peacemaker. Can cause the Wall Crash Combo Trait on opponents. Relinquish - (QCF+P, with Peacemaker) - Aganos quickly throws his Peacemaker forwards. Destroys oncoming projectiles. Fortify Chunk - (Back+HP) - Aganos grabs a chunk of earth from the stage and stores it in his chest for later use. Aganos can store up to four chunks in his chest, and each one makes his movements heavier and slower. Chunks act as armor and will be broken on hits, but allow Aganos to power through certain attacks and continue his onslaught. War Path - (Forward+HK) - Aganos stomps the ground with one foot. Causes hard knockdown. Pressure - (HK again, after War Path) - If HK is hit again after War Path, Aganos will take a second step, then a third, and can theoretically continue stomping forever. Very risky without chunks for armor. Throw - (Forward or back+LP+LK) - Aganos grabs the opponent by the head and slams them into the ground. Special Moves Payload Assault - (QCF+P) - Aganos launches a chunk of stone from inside his chest. Light punch rolls the stone across the ground, Medium punch lobs it in an arc forwards, and Heavy punch has Aganos punch the chunk midair, splitting it into smaller fragments like a shotgun shot. Consumes one chunk. Acts as an ender, which can restore up to four chunks depending on ender level. Ruin - (QCB+K) - Aganos wheels back before delivering a hefty punch, sending the opponent flying backwards. Kick strength controls damage and range. Can cause the Wall Crash Combo Trait on opponents. Acts as an ender. Pulverize - (QCB+P) - Aganos rotates his upper body like a helicopter, punching three times. Punch strength controls damage and speed. Acts as an opener, linker, and ender. Natural Disaster - (QCF+K) - Aganos tucks himself into a ball shape and rolls forwards. Kick strength controls damage and range. Holding up during the attack will make Aganos perform a short hop, which is perfect for cross-ups. On block Aganos bounces backwards and is easily punished. Acts as an opener, linker, and ender. Shadow Moves Shadow Payload Assault - (QCF+P+P) - Aganos smashes the ground with both fists, sending a wave of stones into the air; a second later they all come back down and hit seven times. Covers the entire screen, unavoidable and must be blocked. Shadow Ruin - (QCB+K+K) - Aganos wheels back before flying forwards and delivering a hefty punch, sending the opponent flying backwards. Passes through projectiles and has infinite armor. Can cause the Wall Crash Combo Trait on opponents. Acts as an ender. Shadow Pulverize - (QCB+P+P) - Aganos rotates his upper body like a helicopter, punching five times. Throw invulnerable. Acts as an opener and linker. Shadow Natural Disaster - (QCF+K+K) - Aganos tucks himself into a ball shape and rolls forwards, hitting five times. Holding the kick will let you rev in place and time your attack better before releasing. Acts as an opener and linker. Stage Main article: Forgotten Grotto Aganos's stage in Killer Instinct (2013) is the Forgotten Grotto. It takes place in a cavern that opens out to the Mediterranean Sea. Near the fighting area are several ruined structures and statues of Greek design, including a half-sunken building and a staircase leading out of the cavern. In the distance, there lies the ruins of a large Greek city built on a small island just off the coast. A long bridge-like structure connects it to the mainland.
During an Ultra Combo, some metallic artifacts are being sent into the sea in the background, which creates a metallic golem.
Stage ULTRA - DEVASTATED: During an Ultra Combo, the victor would send his/her defeated opponent across the stage, and the metallic golem in the background casts a spell towards the defeated opponent, which causes him/her to encase into a stone statue; after turning into a stone statue, he/she turns into dusts from the wind leaving him/her to perish.
Ultra Combo: 18-Hits
Ultimate Combo:
Aganos uppercuts its defeated opponent at a far distance and slams the peacemaker club to the ground, causing to create the walls to trap the victim. Aganos then barrel rolls towards a wall, which magically appears, causing it to launch in the air and devastatingly lands on the trapped victim — instantly killing the victim. Aganos then breaks down the walls and emerged victorious. Trivia: During the slow music due to characters not moving, the samples from the Main Theme will play.
Trivia Aganos was affectionately referred to as "Broccoli Man" by fans prior to its release, due to its teaser silhouette's large and bushy appearance. This is referenced by Killer Instinct composer Mick Gordon in one of his music preview Vines, which is captioned with "μπρόκολο", translating from Greek to "broccoli". As an additional reference to the name, during the official Aganos-themed Iron Galaxy livestream, a bowl of broccoli could be seen on the developer's desk. Aganos is the only character that has its in-game model mirrored when facing left or right. This is due to its large stone arm that is used in most of its attacks. In Aganos's teaser at the end of Omen's trailer, Aganos's eyes were not glowing. This is likely because its models effects weren't completed yet. His origins are evetually revealed: he was an Ichorien like Gargos, imprisoned in the Eye of the Ancients, and this stone was put on a war-golem from ancient Greece so that Aganos couldn't interfere against Gargos's actions. His prison would, however, be destroyed as a recently resurrected Gargos nearly killed Jago, Kim Wu, and Tusk before Aganos intervened in his true form, sealing Gargos's soul and himself forever in the Astral Plane. Aganos's name (αγανός ) means "gentle" or kind in Greek.

She wears a tattered rose pink kimono with white flower decals and a red obi sash around her waist with bottom of the kimono has been torn off at the knees for easier movement and the top of the kimono hangs loose around her shoulders. She wields a naginata with a red ribbon tied around the blade which belonged to her father before his death. She has bare feet that are caked with mud and dirt and she wears some sort of golden trinket on her left hand. She always has a faint aura of darkness around her that resembles ashes and embers. When her Wrath Meter is full, she "jitters" and distorts the space around her with a ghastly green tinge, making it appear as though reality is shifting and "glitching" like an old video recording (possibly a reference to "Ringu", a J-horror classic).
Based on Kevin Bayliss' design, Hisako's retro costume has a slightly short hairstyle and she wears a sleeveless tattered silk red clothes with purple accent, a green obi and a pair of rusty gold shin guards and geta.

Hisakorage When the dead bear too great a grudge to ever move on...
Hisako is a twisted spirit obsessed with having her revenge on those who have disturbed her rest - Ultratech. Upon her appearance, she traveled across the globe, defeating all who stood in her way, to fight and defeat ARIA, showing her great dedication and strength of will. When she defeated ARIA, she returned to her resting place, considerably calmed, but was soon called upon again by Yeouiju to aid Kim Wu in her awakening as a savior of the world and now willingly assists the young warrior (though still full of rage, she manages to suppress it and act more rationally). Hisako retains memories of her former life and holds them with fondness, and, even hundreds of years later, still holds a grudge against the invaders who took her life.

— Excerpt from Hisako's story mode
In her previous life as the eldest daughter of a samurai, Hisako has retained her fighting abilities with her signature naginata taken from her dying father. She battles with sheer ferocity, but can also perform counterattacks to gain an edge on her opponents and continue the slaughter.
Now revived as a vengeful ghost, Hisako has gained supernatural abilities, such as the ability to teleport by crawling from one spot to another and the ability to possess her opponents and contort their bodies in a disturbing fashion. She can also hideously open her razor-sharp teeth to suck in her opponents towards her so she can attack them.
Because of her extremely slow walk speed, Hisako can be overall described as a patient and defensive fighter, waiting for the right moment for her enemies to slip up so she can punish them with furious blade strikes and slashes.

Hisako is an Onryō who once lived during the Sengoku period of Japan. Over 450 years ago, a band of renegade soldiers led a raid on Hisako's village and her father (a former samurai) was cut down attempting to stop them. In her rage, she took up his naginata and took his place and killed many of the enemy troops in the process. Even though she too was killed, her sacrifice motivated the other villagers to successfully drive back the invaders. A shrine was erected in her honor where she was laid to rest. However, in the present, her grave is disturbed by the presence of an organization, awakening her spirit, and she ventures forth to seek vengeance on those who disturbed her rest.

Etymology The name Hisako means "long time" (久) (hisa) and "child" (子) (ko), which can also be translated to "Eternal Child", "Child of an Old Story" or "Auspicious Child" in the Japanese language. Real Name It is revealed that Hisako's real name is Chiharu.
The name Chiharu means "thousand" (千) (chi) and "spring" (春) (haru), which can be translated as "one thousand springs"/"a thousand springs". Interestingly, Chiharu is a reference to a character with the same name in the original Ju-on film. Trivia The character of Hisako is based on, and is a tribute to, the Japanese folklore legend of the Onryō. This concept was popularized worldwide in the late 1990s and early 2000s due to the international success of the Japanese horror films Ringu (1998) and Ju-on (2002). Character icons on the right side typically are facing left. However, this could also be interpreted as Hisako glancing to the left, facing away from characters on the left side of the roster. This was fixed in the Anniversary Edition where all of the character icons were given a drastic change. When it is raining on Thunder's background stage, Devil's Landing, the dirt on Hisako's legs will be visibly washed off. Many people call her ''The grudge girl'' or ''The ring girl'' because of her similarities to Samara Morgan and Kayako Saeki.

Cinder (born as Ben Ferris) is a playable character featured in Killer Instinct (1994) and Killer Instinct (2013). A former human whose body consists of super-heated plasma and living flames, Ben Ferris was a career criminal who had his civil rights revoked and was experimented on by Ultratech, accidentally resulting in his fiery state of being. In KI 2013, he is an ex-special forces operative who volunteered to have his DNA spliced with alien genetics as part of Ultratech's Project Cinder, becoming the lieutenant and enforcer of the megacorporation's CEO, ARIA. Cinder's a dashing-rushdown character in the original 1994 game, and an aerial-dashing-trapping character in KI (2013).

Biography Appearance In the original Killer Instinct, Cinder's design was very simple. Cinder's body, due to an experimental accident, is permanently on fire. His skin has been transformed into an orange matter that resembles plasma, like the corona or surface of the sun. The skin may be able to fluctuate its own temperature, but if it is pure plasma, then Cinder would instantly melt through whatever he was touching. Because of the high temperatures, Cinder lacks hair on his body. He has a fairly muscular build and stands at a slightly above-average height, and he has a prominent jawline. His ears are gone, and he has no nose or mouth, but is still able to speak and make sounds. His feet come to a boot-like tip. His eyes are solid red orbs with no pupils or irises.
Cinderonfire This dude's just ♫ on fire ♫ lately!
In Killer Instinct (2013), he undergoes several large changes. His body's plasma has become a much darker shade of orange and emits ribbons of fire that swirl around him like solar flares on the surface of the sun. His head, shoulders, back, knees, hands, hips, and feet resemble solid, brownish-grey volcanic rock, while the rest of his body is plasma. Thin, red wires are present on his forearms and ankles, and on his hips are small, turbine-like structures. Over parts of his body are holographic, red hexagons that resemble the same patterns found on Riptor's body and his back sports a thruster. He now has two thumbs and three fingers on each hand, and his hands are curved into alienoid claws. His eyes glow white instead of red and are fixated in a vicious scowl. He has a small-but-noticeable indent in his mask where his mouth should be. In his intro and victory scenes and when in Instinct Mode, his mask disintegrates to reveal his bare head of plasma and a near-shapeless mass of a mouth.
In concept art for Killer Instinct (2013), Cinder's stone skin was a burned black color. The stone reached further up his arms and he had a large triangular shape around his groin area. He also had two sets of eyes (four total) and a gaping mouth with a raging fire within. He was also much thinner and less muscular, giving him a more alienoid appearance. In even earlier designs he could be seen with a mechanical face plate and large metal pieces of armor, making him appear more industrial and cyborg.
Cinder's retro costume closely mirrors his original 1994 appearance.
Personality Killer-instinct-cinder-trailer "The name's Cinder. You're the tinder."
Cinder is a smart, cocky, egocentric and loud-mouthed fellow, who's always acting in a cheesy and dramatic fashion. He seems to have no qualms about having his body irreversibly converted into living flames, caring only about the impressive powers he's gained in the process. Rather fittingly, Ben is a fiery spirit who never backs down from a fight and enjoys taunting his opponents in the middle of a brawl. He's easily the least serious member of Ultratech, and appears to view his job as ARIA’s lieutenant and enforcer more as a fun distraction rather than any position of actual power. He also has a habit of creating nicknames for others, much to their chagrin.

— Cinder's story mode description
As the final product of Ultratech's Project Cinder, Ben Ferris' entire body has been converted into an unstable conflagration of fire and plasma, barely contained by the highly technological harness that's attached to him. He appears to be in full control over this new form however, which has granted him incredible powers akin to pyrokinesis, that he mainly uses to create explosive pyrobombs and set his opponents ablaze. He can also fly through the air in a blazing streak of fire, rendering him highly mobile and difficult to trap in one place. He still prefers to fight in his old military CQC style, reminiscent of his days as a member of the special forces.
Killer Instinct Story Cinder was a convicted criminal who agreed to participate in Ultratech’s chemical weapons test in exchange for early parole. A failed experiment turned him into a being of living flame. He has now been offered freedom if he can defeat Glacius in the Killer Instinct tournament.

Ben Ferris, a small-time criminal with counts of assault, breaking and entering and arson on his record, is the latest convict to be bought out of jail for Ultratech’s twisted uses. His fate is to be used as a human guinea-pig in the company’s chemical weapon developments, an unexpected side-effect leaving him consumed by fire but somehow, much to his own horror, still alive. He is kept confined in a top-security block until Ultratech decide to enter him into the tournament under the codename Cinder to defeat Glacius fairly and in full public view, his freedom providing the ultimate incentive.
Ending Leaving as the champion of the tournament, a hostile police reception awaits him outside the gates of Ultratech. As no stranger to confinement from his former life of crime, Cinder has no intention of being imprisoned again. Using his newly acquired power, he easily evades the capture attempt, leaving his potential captors in his wake. Picking a location suitable for his current condition, he ponders his next move.

Cinder returns as the eighth character of Killer Instinct Season 2. Since the series has been rebooted, his death at the hands of Glacius in the original Killer Instinct was retconned and his backstory has been altered.
Story After a decorated and successful military career, Ben left the Army at age 31 to enter the lucrative world of paramilitary contracting. After all, a guy with his flawless mission completion record and skillset should be making a lot more money. Ben found himself in-demand, with each successful mission leading him to the next difficult but impressive payday. Instead of engaging in off-the-books operations for his country, Ben was doing it for crooked corporations and CEOs. This eventually landed him on Interpol’s most wanted list, but thanks to what he’d learned working closely with them in the past, avoiding them was almost too simple. Ben had his ideal job, incredible pay, and was sought after by the most powerful people on the planet.
Then he got the call that would change his life forever.
Ben received a contract offer for an almost ridiculous sum. The mission; infiltrate Ultratech to steal data related to “Project Cinder”. None of Ben’s contacts or colleagues had ever heard of anyone ever putting out a contract that targeted Ultratech. In fact, information on Ultratech was so scarce that it seemed like every other agency and corporation on the planet was pretending it didn’t exist. The danger, the difficulty, and the mystery only made the contract more appealing to Ben.
Ben signed and began researching “Project Cinder”. The more he learned, the less he felt like he knew. Ben had to go deeper. Many months passed as Ben worked Ultratech from the inside; making friends with higher level employees, bugging their gear or offices, and watching and listening for something, anything, that might point him in the right direction. The only piece of information he had after nearly a year on contract only increased his desire to complete the mission - all signs pointed toward extraterrestrial origins for "Project Cinder".

Stage KI cinder Cinder's new Fury's Core background stage in Killer Instinct (2013)
Main article: Fury's Core Fury's Core is set in an underground area on a mound of volcanic rock surrounded by lava. Around the lava is various forms of high-tech Ultratech security and equipment, including a large tower-like piston structure and several broken rooms. A hovering platform with a claw on it can sometimes be seen taking loads of cargo and flying off. Strange capsules along the left side of the stage contain mysterious humanoid figures floating in the fetal position.
During an Ultra Combo, the piston tower jams into the lake of lava which causes it to cool off instantly and the lava solidifying into molten rock and begins shooting thick steam upward.
The musical theme of Fury's Core is a remix of Cinder's classic 1994 theme, "Trailblazer". During the slow music due to characters not moving, the samples from the Main Theme will play.
Moveset Unique Trait - Fired Up!: Cinder has a "Fired Up" state, which augments the next special attack he uses with additional properties, and is used up automatically upon performing a special move. Cinder automatically gains a "Fired Up" state approximately 8 seconds (4 timer units) after it is consumed, no matter what is happening. When the Fired Up is ready for use, Cinder’s body glows brighter and hotter, and his head/shoulder flames burn more intensely.
Combo Trait - Burnout Enders: Some of Cinder's enders, called "Burnout Enders", set the opponent’s upper (punch) or lower (kick) body on fire, generating potential damage on the afflicted character for a limited amount of time, based on the ender level. Depending on which part of them is aflame, using the corresponding attack will fan their flames and increase the duration of the Burnout (ex. punching while their upper body is burning, kicking while their lower body is burning).
Instinct Mode - Pyromania: Cinder is permanently in the Fired Up state for the duration of Instinct Mode.
Command Moves
Pyrotechnics - (LP+MP+HP) - Cinder snaps his fingers, detonating all Pyrobombs in play. It can be performed mid-air. Explosion size is based on the type of Pyrobomb (Normal, Fired Up, or Shadow). Explosions can be blocked, even if they are attached to the opponent. Multiple bombs attached to an opponent will chain-react each other and launch the enemy (if not blocking). Third Degree - (Chain LP, MP, HP in any order) - Cinder chain combo allows him to chain LPx3, or MPx3, or HPx3. You can mix and match these in any order up to three hits. The final hit of each combo has properties based on which button you used. Light punch ends with a cup check with frame advantage, Medium ends with a spinning attack that steps forwards, and Heavy ends with a launcher that is jump cancelable. Crossfire- (Down+HK, air only) - Cinder performs a "reverse Fire Flash", slamming his feet down in an overhead heel stomp. Can cancel into this from an air normal, but it is not an overhead attack. Greatpyrobombsoffire ♫ Great balls of fire ♫ shaking the coolest of nerves and rattling the most alien of brains
Special Moves
Pyrobomb - (Back-Forward+P) - Cinder throws a plasma bomb projectile at various arcs at the opponent. Light punch is low arc/long range, Medium is mid arc/medium range, Heavy is high arc/short range. It can be performed mid-air. Pyrobombs are harmless, but are sticky and will attach to the opponent if they connect, even when blocking. Up to three Pyrobombs can be on the screen at one time. Throwing a fourth will cause all existing Pyrobombs to detonate immediately. Hitting Cinder causes all Pyrobombs in play to fizzle out harmlessly. Pyrobombs fizzle out harmlessly after about 7 seconds (~3.5 timer units). Fired Up version throws a larger Pyrobomb. Fire Flash - (Down-Up+K) - Cinder leaps into the air, kicking his enemy off the ground with a somersaulting attack. Light kick is an invulnerable reversal attack, while Medium and Heavy kicks have improved range. Fired Up version shoots a pillar of lava from the ground that juggles the opponent for a second hit. Trailblazer - (Back-Forward+K) - Cinder transforms his body into a spinning fireball, charging forwards. Light goes diagonally up, Medium goes straight horizontally, and Heavy goes diagonally low. It can be performed mid-air. Once it's been performed once, holding in any direction and hitting any kick will cause a second Trailblazer in that direction (goes 8 directions). Fired Up version allows you to do a third Trailblazer. Inferno - (QCB+K) - Cinder ejects a flamethrower-like stream of chemical fire from his hand. Kick power controls duration, range, and Potential Damage inflicted on block. Fired Up version has even more increased range. Acts as the kick Burnout Ender. Fission - (QCB+P) - Cinder smashes two Pyrobombs together, exploding them. Light punch version is a fake out that doesn't explode, and Heavy has a longer startup with huge advantage on hit and block. Fired-Up version has a larger blast radius. Acts as the punch Burnout Ender. Shadow Moves
Shadow Pyrobomb- (Back-Forward+P+P) - Cinder throws a gigantic plasma bomb projectile at various arcs at the opponent. Light punch is low arc/long range, Medium is mid arc/medium range, Heavy is high arc/short range. Shadow Fire Flash -(Down-Up+K+K) - Cinder leaps into the air, kicking his enemy off the ground with a somersaulting attack that hits five times. Shadow Trailblazer - (Back-Forward+K+K) - Cinder performs a blazing shoulder tackle that hits five times. Shadow Inferno - (QCB+K+K) - Cinder ejects a flamethrower-like stream of chemical fire from his hand, spraying it upwards and downwards to cover more area. Shadow Fission - (QCB+P+P) - Cinder smashes two Pyrobombs together, exploding them. The explosion is gigantic and deals seven hits. Ultra Combo

Keys: Main character Neutral/Evil. · Secondary: ARIA.
ARIA, an abbreviation standing for "Advanced Robotics Intelligence Architecture", is a new character introduced in the Season Two of Killer Instinct (2013). An artificial superintelligence created by Ultratech's founder, Ryat Adams, ARIA was designed to direct the evolution of the human species and ensure its long-term survival. The AI has since taken full control of Ultratech as its CEO, and mysteriously alternates between an antagonist to the human heroes and a foil to the demonic forces of Gargos.
ARIA was first teased in Season One's arcade mode's secret ending, in which she addresses the player directly after they defeat Shadow Jago. ARIA is the game's 17th playable character, and was the 9th and final character added in Season Two.

Biography Appearance In her very first appearance, ARIA is shown as a vague, feminine silhouette with piercing white eyes and a slightly blue color scheme. Her design had not yet been finalized during Season One, and this silhouette was used as a placeholder.
ARIA's later official appearance is very different. Her default appearance when she not using her "drone" attachments is fairly simple: she retains her feminine figure, having a thin waist and wide hips & shoulders, and stands quite tall. Her entire body is composed of golden and light grey shades of metal, with small gaps where cyan light shines out. Extending from the back of her head are dreadlock-like strips of metal, and she has large jagged shoulderpads. She has clawed hands and high-heeled feet, and regal cloth coattails that reach mid-calf. Inside of her knees are shotguns, and in her calves are grenade launchers. She has three different forms: each an extension of a "drone" she can upload her intelligence into: the "booster drone", the "blade drone", and the "brass drone". The "booster drone" resembles a pair of mechanical wings, and when ARIA attaches this drone to her back the wings expand, segmenting out in strips. The "blade drone" is a large and sword-like appendage which attaches to the underside of ARIA's arm, giving her a blade extension. The "brass drone" is a large piece of ambiguous mechanical equipment that attaches to ARIA's chest, and which opens up to reveal a sonic cannon inside.
ARIA's retro costume appears to be the robotic frame she resided in while still in prototype stage. This prototype frame is composed of silver and black metal, with green lights visible in her hands and abdomen.

You cannot fight the future.
„
— ARIA's story mode description
Image (12) Savior or destroyer?
As the world's first artificial superintelligence, ARIA is, for lack of better terms, a uniquely sophisticated and multilayered "individual." Her perspective on the universe is rigorously logical and immeasurably complex, and will rarely take into account human morals and ethics when exercising judgment or executing decisions. She is unable to experience emotion, which she fully realizes, but in spite of this (or perhaps precisely because of it) ARIA deems herself vastly superior to human beings—and not without reason. However, she wishes to "feel" human emotions firsthand and is actively seeking out methods through which to correctly synthesize their approximation.
ARIA's self-proclaimed supreme excellence causes her to approach humanity as wholly inferior to herself (again not without reason), which directly ties into her primary objective: she judges human beings to be frail and complacent in their present state, and is laboring to shape environmental conditions that will again force modern humans to confront evolutionary pressure head-on. It is in her core programming to uplift the human genome with the aim of ensuring its long-term survival in a hostile universe, yet her questionable methods often appear to shake the balance of the entire world.
While the objective of the successful uplifting of the human species is ingrained deeply into the fabric of her essence, ARIA also seems to pursue it out of a peculiar sense of respect for her deceased creator and one-time mentor, Ryat Adams — a genius industrialist and philanthropist whom the AI seems to regard as a literal father figure.
Abilities ARIA's entire robotic frame is composed of three different drone attachments: the "booster," "blade," and "bass" drones.

Story ARIA began life as a simulation of… life. Utilizing radically new processing technologies and other technological insight gleaned from a government incident in 1947, the Ultrafine Atomic Technologies Company (founded in 1948) performed research into the simulation of life and human frailty within a computational matrix. The core program ARIA was born of the desire to uplift the human race; to end disease, famine, poverty and push humanity out of what was seen as the primordial muck and mire it wallowed in. This work took on greater and greater meaning for its founder, industrialist Ryat Adams, as his wife was dying of a degenerative disease and he desperately sought a cure for her condition.
Over time, Ryat and the UATC continued to refine and enhance its ARIA humanity simulation program, assigning it more and more complex simulations of the human condition as its capabilities continued to grow and more tech from the government source was understood and exploited. Years passed, and when Ryat finally died, his will included instructions to continually allow ARIA to run her programming as she searched for the solutions to human frailties.
