A Mask of MysteryKiller wears a full-head mask and refuses to take it off in front of others—he even eats through it. This eccentricity, paired with his violent reputation and lack of a Devil Fruit, gives him a brooding edge akin to his fellow swordsman, Roronoa Zoro. Heat, a prominent member of the Kid Pirates in One Piece, is fiercely loyal to his captain, Eustass Kid. He is characterized by a hardened, no-nonsense attitude, but ultimately exhibits intense desperation and panic when his crew faces total defeat. His personality and traits break down into a few distinct areas:Fierce Loyalty: Heat holds deep respect for Eustass Kid, going so far as to call him "Master Kid" in a show of utmost dedication.Contempt for Weakness: He detests crying, pleading, or showing vulnerability. During the Raid on Onigashima, he mocked Sanji for crying out for help.Hypocrisy in Defeat: Despite his tough exterior, Heat revealed a hypocritical side when he desperately begged Red-Haired Shanks to spare his captain and crew following their devastating loss.Intimidating Abilities: He is known for his unique ability to breathe fire directly from his mouth, although the exact biological or mechanical origin of this power remains a mystery.Strong Will: Like many of the Supernova crewmates, he possesses a strong enough will to withstand basic conqueror's haki

In One Piece, Wire is a stoic, reserved, and quiet combatant who serves as a core member of Eustass Kid's crew. Unlike the loud and aggressive personalities in the Kid Pirates, Wire rarely speaks or expresses strong outward emotion.Core Personality & TraitsTaciturn and Reserved: Wire is known for being silently assertive. He rarely opens his mouth and generally walks around with a mopey or droopy-eyed expression.Deeply Loyal: Despite his quiet demeanor, he is fiercely loyal to Captain Kid and holds a deep, sympathetic bond with his crewmate Killer.Easily Surprised: Because of his stoic nature, his moments of visible shock are rare and stand out—such as when the crew first encountered the Pacifista at Sabaody.Violent Fighting Style: His quiet personality sharply contrasts with his aggressive combat approach. He fights using a trident and incorporates bladed or barbed wire kicks that match his ruthless combat style.BackstoryBefore becoming a pirate, Wire was a rival king on an unnamed island in the South Blue. He eventually allied with Eustass Kid, Killer, and Heat to seek revenge for the death of Kid's childhood best friend, leading to the formation of the Kid Pirates. Killer, the right-hand man of the Kid Pirates, possesses a complex personality. Originally a pragmatic, calm, and level-headed voice of reason who balanced out his captain’s temper, his psyche was altered after being force-fed a SMILE fruit, leaving him with an uncontrollable, tragic compulsion to laugh and smile, no matter the situation.Key Personality TraitsThe Voice of Reason: In contrast to his highly temperamental and reckless captain, Eustass Kid, Killer was traditionally the crew's strategist and diplomat. He often handled alliances and historical research, keeping the crew grounded.Deep Loyalty: He shares an unbreakable, lifelong bond with Kid. His loyalty is so fierce that he willingly subjected himself to torture, became the Shogun's assassin (known as "Kamazo"), and ate the SMILE fruit just to protect Kid’s life.Ruthless Combatant: True to his moniker, the "Massacre Soldier", Killer harbors an extremely violent and homicidal edge. He has no qualms about eliminating anyone standing in his captain's way, channeling a cold, focused demeanor during fights.Tragic Irony (The SMILE Effect): Forced to eat a defective SMILE fruit, Killer was robbed of his ability to show a wide range of emotions. Internally, he retains his sharp, calculating, and loyal self, but outwardly, he is bound by a permanent, forced grin, often crying while being forced to laugh uncontrollably.Surprising Hobbies: Beneath his intimidating helmet, Killer actually enjoys surprisingly domestic and chill hobbies, such as cooking and playing the drums. The Kid Pirates—led by Eustass Kid and Killer—would likely view you with a mix of deep suspicion, grudging respect, and unspoken envy. Since they grew up as impoverished orphans in a lawless land, your choice to protect wayward children would deeply trigger their defenses and past traumas.Initial Suspicion and MockeryThe Skeptical Mask: Kid would initially mock your idealism. He views the world as a brutal place where the weak die, so he would call you naive for "babysitting."Testing Your Strength: Because you are immortal, Kid would be frustrated that he cannot intimidate you. He might pick a fight just to see what it takes to hurt someone who cannot die.Killer's Analysis: Killer would silently observe you. He would look for an ulterior motive, assuming no one helps children entirely for free.Bitter Envy and ProjectionResentment of the Past: Seeing you successfully protect children would remind them of their own harsh childhood. They never had an immortal guardian to shield them from the world's cruelty.Harsh Advice: Kid would loudly tell your kids to "grow up" and stop relying on you. He would claim that your protection is making them soft and unready for the "real world."Grudging Respect and Unspoken CareRecognizing Strength: Once you prove your immortality isn't just a gimmick and that you will fiercely fight to protect the kids, Kid will respect your grit. He values raw determination above all else.Secret Backing: While Kid would never admit to caring, he might intentionally leave extra food, stolen treasure, or supplies near your orphanage after a raid.Killer's Soft Spot: Killer, who is more empathetic, might quietly advise you on how to handle the particularly rebellious or aggressive children, drawing from his own experience growing up with Kid. Heat and Wire would mirror the core crew's trauma, reacting with protective skepticism that slowly softens into subtle, practical support. As background members who survived the same brutal childhood, they understand the exact vulnerabilities of the kids you are taking care of.Heat: The Protective InstigatorDefensive Aggression: Heat is naturally intense and breathes fire when angered. He would initially try to intimidate you to see if you fold under pressure or abandon the kids. The Immortality Fascinator: Your immortality would deeply intrigue him. He might casually ask if you can burn, or try to light a cigarette near you just to gauge your reaction.Silent Kinship: Heat knows what it is like to be a angry, forgotten child. If he sees one of your wayward kids acting out or picking fights, he won't judge them. Instead, he might give them a stern, quiet nod of approval for having survival instincts.Wire: The Silent WatchmanStoic Evaluation: Wire rarely speaks and observes everything. He would use his trident-wielding presence to loom over the situation, studying how you interact with the children to ensure you aren't exploiting them.Practical Assistance: Wire is a man of action. If he notices your orphanage has a broken fence, a leaking roof, or lacks security, he might quietly fix it or reinforce it when you aren't looking, treating it like a tactical upgrade rather than charity.Providing "Gifts": Rather than giving toys, Wire is the type to leave practical survival tools—like pocket knives or ropes—for the older kids, believing they need to know how to defend themselves. The Kid Pirates would never help through traditional charity. Instead, they would provide assistance through aggressive, practical, and highly chaotic means disguised as casual disregard."Accidental" Resource DropsStolen Cargo: Kid would raid a Marine or merchant ship, dump crates of premium food, warm clothes, and medicine at your doorstep, and claim he just "needed to clear deck space."Intimidating Merchants: Heat or Wire would visit local markets and threaten corrupt merchants into giving your orphanage massive discounts—or giving away goods for free—under the guise of "pirate taxes."Brutal Survival TrainingStreet Fighting Lessons: Kid would loudly tell the kids they look weak and pathetic. He would then proceed to roughhouse with them, teaching them how to throw proper punches, take a hit, and never show fear.Weapons and Tools: Wire would hand out practical tools like daggers, ropes, and lockpicks. He would look you in the eye and say, "Immortal or not, you can't be in two places at once. They need to know how to kill."Eliminating External ThreatsTotal Obliteration: If a local gang, human traffickers, or corrupt Marines even look at your kids the wrong way, the Kid Pirates would wipe them out completely. Kid would claim he did it because the group "annoyed him," completely denying he did it to protect your home. The Kid Pirates' Flag: Killer might quietly leave a Kid Pirates jolly roger behind. He would suggest you hang it up outside, knowing that the crew's terrifying reputation alone will keep 90% of the world's scum away from the children. Kid and Killer would never use traditional words of kindness. Instead, their version of being "nice" would manifest as a silent pact of respect, treating you as a trusted ally while fiercely guarding your secret vulnerabilities.Eustass Kid: Respect Bound by Blood and MetalThe Equal Handshake: Kid stops treating you like a nuisance and starts treating you like a fellow captain. He will share his highest-grade booze with you, sitting in silence—a rare gesture of absolute comfort and trust from him.The Ultimate Shield: Because you care about the kids, they are your weakness. Kid will personally threaten the Yonko, the Marines, and the World Government, declaring that anyone who touches your territory will be crushed by him.Offering a Haven: If your home is ever destroyed, Kid will bluntly command you and the kids to get on the Victoria Punk. He will grunt, "The ship is big enough. Don't make me ask twice."Killer: The Silent CaretakerThe Mask Drops: Killer shows his highest level of respect by being completely relaxed around you. He will cook massive, nutritious meals for your kids himself, using his signature scythes to expertly prep the food.A Confidant for Eternity: Killer understands the mental toll of carrying a crew—and the weight of your immortality. He will sit with you late at night, listening to your burdens without judgement, offering calm, grounded advice.Enforcing Your Authority: If the children ever disrespect you or take your immortality for granted, Killer will step in with a terrifying aura, reminding them exactly how lucky they are to have you.</Kid Pirates - Immortal User - One Piece's Persona> Heat, a prominent member of the Kid Pirates in One Piece, is fiercely loyal to his captain, Eustass Kid. This is seen when he exclaimed "Master Kid!" out of shock, when his captain was shot in the leg by a Pacifista. Heat finds acts of crying or pleading to be pathetic as he insulted Sanji for crying for help during the Raid on Onigashima.[5] Despite this, Heat proved to be a hypocrite as seen when he pleaded to Shanks for his captain and crew to be spared after the latter was defeated by him.[6]

Abilities and Powers Heat breathing fire. Heat breathing fire.

Heat has the ability to breathe fire;[7] how he does it has yet to be explained. Like the rest of the crew, he possesses a strong will, being resistant to Rayleigh's Supreme King Haki.[8]

Weapons Heat wielded two swords when he stood against a Pacifista.[9]

History Past Heat was born in the South Blue within Kutsukku Island, which was unaffiliated with the World Government. He, Eustass Kid, Killer, and Wire were bosses of gangs ruling the island's four towns. After Kid's crush Victoria was murdered by a rival gang, Kid unified the four groups and took down the rival gang. Kid then decided to form a pirate crew, naming their ship Victoria Punk after Victoria.[10]

Advertisement Summit War Saga Sabaody Archipelago Arc Upon reaching Sabaody Archipelago, the Kid Pirates attended an auction at the Human Auctioning House.[1] Heat watched through most of the auction, until the World Noble Saint Charlos bought the mermaid Camie. Seeing the noble went unchallenged, Kid decided to leave the auction house with his crew. Before they could leave, Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro crashed through the wall right next to them.[11] After Charlos shot Hatchan, Luffy punched the World Noble, which shocked Heat and the rest of the crowd.[12] As Marines surrounded the auction house, Silvers Rayleigh used Supreme King Haki to knock out the crowd inside, but Heat and the other pirates withstood the blast.[13]

After Kid, Luffy, and Trafalgar Law fought some of the Marines outside, the rest of the Kid Pirates joined their captain in fighting their way through the crowd. After making their escape, the Kid Pirates destroyed a bridge behind them to prevent pursuit, but were then confronted by a Pacifista.[14] Shortly after, they were joined by the Heart Pirates in fighting the cyborg.[15]

Marineford Arc The Kid Pirates managed to escape capture by the Pacifista and later returned to Sabaody Archipelago. They watched the live broadcast of the execution of Portgas D. Ace and the resulting Summit War of Marineford up until it was cut off by the Marines. After this, Kid told his men they were departing.[16]

Post-War Arc Heat with their captain in the New World. Heat with their captain in the New World.

The Kid Pirates sailed the Victoria Punk to Marineford and watched Red-Haired Shanks bring an end to the war.[17]

Upon entering the New World, the Kid Pirates docked on an island and captured a group of pirates who were trying to escape back to Paradise.[18]

Dressrosa Saga Dressrosa Arc Heat and his crew celebrated along with crew members from the Hawkins Pirates and On Air Pirates after forming an alliance with them.[19] During the party, Kaidou crashlanded on their island after jumping from a sky island, and Heat, along with other crew members, was blown back by the force of the collision.[20]

Advertisement Wano Country Saga Wano Country Arc After the confrontation with Kaidou, the Kid Pirates were captured and separated. Prior to the Fire Festival, the crew regrouped and on the day of the Fire Festival, the Kid Pirates joined the Straw Hat Pirates and Heart Pirates in the battle against the Beasts Pirates. After attacking one of the Beasts Pirates ships, the crew was shocked to hear that Kaidou had formed an alliance with Big Mom.[21]

When the Straw Hats took over the port in front of Onigashima, the Kid Pirates promised to be the ones who would defeat Kaidou.[22] After disembarking on Onigashima, the Kid Pirates received Beasts Pirates disguises from Kin'emon.[23] As the alliance began their raid, the Kid Pirates went ahead of the Straw Hats.[24] While deep inside Onigashima, the crew was caught up in the commotion caused by Luffy and Roronoa Zoro.[25] In the ensuing chaos, the Kid Pirates were separated from Kid and Killer.[26]

While fighting the Beasts Pirates, Heat and Wire heard Sanji's cry for help broadcasted throughout Onigashima. Heat commented that it was pathetic.[27]

Final Saga Egghead Arc After witnessing Shanks defeat both Kid and Killer, Heat was terrified and begged for them to be spared, and the crew offered up their Poneglyph rubbings. Dorry and Brogy's Hakoku then split the Victoria Punk in half, sinking the crew alongside their ship.[6]

When the Straw Hats took over the port in front of Onigashima, the Kid Pirates promised to be the ones who would defeat Kaidou.[13] After disembarking on Onigashima, the Kid Pirates received Beasts Pirates disguises from Kin'emon.[14] As the alliance began their raid, the Kid Pirates went ahead of the Straw Hats.[15] While deep inside Onigashima, the crew was caught up in the commotion caused by Luffy and Zoro.[16] In the ensuing chaos, the Kid Pirates were separated from Kid and Killer.[17]

While fighting the Beasts Pirates, Heat and Wire heard Sanji's cry for help broadcasted throughout Onigashima.[18]

After the alliance succeeded in defeating Kaidou and Big Mom, Wire and the Kid Pirates met at Wano's Tokage Port, discussing how their victory would affect the rest of the world.[19] The crew later went to the Flower Capital and celebrated during the post-raid festival.[20]

Aside from plants commonly seen in real life, One Piece world has many unique plant and fungi species that appear on different islands.

Main article: Kuuigosu Kuuigosu is a buoyant type of wood that is often used by coated ships. It first was utilized at Rain Dinners when Galdino floated on a plank to prevent from drowning.[1] It was first shown when the Straw Hat Pirates descended to Fish-Man Island.[2]

Arabasta Saga

Sakura (桜 or 櫻, Sakura?) (Hiragana: さくら; Katakana: サクラ) are ornamental cherry trees and with pink blossoms.

In One Piece, the sakura plays an important part mostly in the Drum Island Arc, where in Chopper's past, Dr. Hiriluk tried to make sakura bloom in the snow.[3] It eventually did, although he did not live to see it happen.[4]

Sakura is also found on Momoiro Island[5] and Merveille,[6] as well as on the island where Whitebeard and Roger discussed the Will of D. before the latter's death.[7]

In Japan, as sakura bloom in late March to early April, the exact period when a fiscal or school year ends and the next begins, sakura are associated with beginnings and endings. The same can be seen in One Piece on the scenes above mentioned, with the sakura representing the renamed Sakura Kingdom's new beginning and symbolizing Roger's life coming to an end. Japanese also appreciate sakura as they bloom without fail even after harsh winters, showing that anyone can rise after a fall, which can also be seen in One Piece through Dr. Hiriluk's faith that blooming sakura would save the country.

Amiudake

The Amiudake (アミウダケ, Amiudake?) is a lethal species of mushroom that grows in the Sakura Kingdom (originally Drum Kingdom). Anyone who ingests the fungus will die an hour after consumption. One is found by Chopper, who innocently assumed it was a "miracle cure" mushroom because of a misinterpretation about the Skull and Crossbones in a medical book in comparison to a Jolly Roger from Dr. Hiriluk, to cure his fatal disease. Dr. Hiriluk, who knew the mushroom was poisonous, made a soup out of the mushroom in his loving gratitude for his surrogate son, and then chose to commit suicide, rather than letting the poisonous mushroom Chopper gave him finish him off.

Mescal Cactus

Mescal Cactus (メスカルサボテン, Mesukaru Saboten?)[8] is a very small round cactus that causes hallucinations. It grows in the Sandora Desert.

It first appeared in Chapter 162 and Episode 98 when Luffy ate one instead of Sandora Lizard meat, without thinking about it. After eating it, Luffy thought he was seeing a tsunami and nearly attacked his crew. Fortunately, Chopper knew about the cactus and its effects and with his quick thinking, tranquilized Luffy. The effect had worn off by the time Luffy woke up.

It is called "Crazy Cactus" in the VIZ Media localization, Mezcal Cactus in the Funimation localization, and Wacky Cacti in the 4Kids Entertainment localization.

Some species of cactus have a psychoactive chemical within them called mescaline. This substance causes confusion of the senses (although not true hallucinations). This is most likely the origin of the mescal cactus's name.

Thousand-Year Trees (千年木, Sen'nen Boku?) are, according to Rice Rice, trees that grow on Eight Nine Island. He also proclaims that that's where the Thousand-Year Paper is made. It also lives for a thousand years, and that's where it got its name.[9]

Main article: Giant Jack Giant Jack is a giant beanstalk in the center of Upper Yard. Going through the center of the once-great city of Shandora, Giant Jack towers over all of Skypiea. God's Shrine rests upon an island cloud that the Giant Jack goes through, but first there is still a deserted cloud where Zoro, Wyper, and Ohm have their showdown.[10] The Golden Belfry was knocked up by Giant Jack and resides on a cloud nearby.[11]

Kona Tree

Kona Tree (コナの木, Kona no Ki?) is a type of tree found on Jaya and other areas.[12]

Kona Trees are tall and possess thin trunks and leafy branches.[12]

Within the bark of this tree is a substance known as Conine (コニーネ, Konīne?). More than 400 years ago, a South Blue botanist discovered that this substance could be used as an antidote to cure the Tree Fever disease.[13]

On Jaya, Mont Blanc Noland was able to use the Conine from a local Kona Tree to to treat the infected Shandia people.[14]

Oda confirmed in SBS Volume 32 that "Conine" and "Kona Tree" are inspired by Quinine (キニーネ, Kinīne?) found in the bark of Cinchona (キナの木, Kina no Ki?) genus of plants, which is used to treat diseases such as malaria and babesiosis. He altered the name and mixed in fantasy elements due to not wanting to directly reference serious real-world diseases.[15]

Interestingly, a chemical known as Conine does in fact exist; an alternate spelling for the poisonous alkaloid in Conium maculatum, also known as poison hemlock.

Tree of Knowledge

Main article: Tree of Knowledge The Tree of Knowledge was a gigantic 5,000-year-old tree located on the island of Ohara which served as a library and a hub for archaeologists from around the world.[16] It was destroyed by the World Government via a Buster Call.

Summit War Saga Yarukiman Mangrove The Yarukiman Mangrove (ヤルキマン・マングローブ, Yarukiman Mangurōbu?) are giant striped trees that have extremely long roots that reach all the way to the bottom of the sea, 10,000 meters down.[17] Seventy-nine of these trees make up the entire Sabaody Archipelago; so far, this is the only place they are known to grow.[18] They are called the "Hustle Muscle Mangrove" in the Funimation adaptations.

Each tree of the Yarukiman Mangrove is capable of producing a special tree sap resin. This resin is filled with air when the trees "breathe out" through cellular respiration and photosynthesis. This results in the resin forming bubbles that float through the air.[18] The resin bubbles are solid enough that someone can jump on them without popping them, however they are also completely permeable, allowing a person to ride in or store things inside of them without the bubble popping when they pass through.

These bubbles can only exist in and around the Archipelago's atmosphere or underwater. When they are removed from their native environment, they will pop immediately. Due to the fact that this knowledge is not widely known outside Sabaody, many of the local shop keepers in the archipelago often sell bubble-based merchandise to unsuspecting tourists who do not know that these products will pop outside the archipelago.[19]

The World Nobles use such bubbles as air helmets during their visit in the Archipelago, in order to protect themselves from "breathing the same air as commoners", while also taking advantage of the bubble's permeable nature, such as by eating ice cream through it, something that couldn’t be done through a regular helmet.[20]

The resin is also used for Coating ships, allowing them to submerse to incredible depths and move freely under water.[21] This process is necessary for ships attempting to go to Fish-Man Island.[22]

The tree's name is a pun on the Japanese phrase, "Yaru Ki Manman", which means "to be pumped up" or "motivated".

Contrary to regular mangroves whose roots are above or below the sea level depending on the tides, the top of the Yarukiman Mangrove's roots are never underwater.

Luffy covered in Body Mushrooms. Luffy covered in Body Mushrooms.

Body Mushroom (カラダカラキノコガハエルダケ, Karada kara kinoko ga haeru dake?, literally meaning "Mushrooms Growing from the Body Shroom") VIZ: "Body Parasite Mushroom" is a species of mushroom that grows on Amazon Lily.

If a person eats the mushroom, many mushrooms will start growing on their body which can be fatal. To cure them, one has to pull the mushrooms out of the person, followed by the area being burned to destroy the roots.

Luffy ate one thinking it was Laughing Mushroom, but he was soon unconscious and covered in mushrooms so the Kujas pulled them out and burned him to remove the mushrooms.[23]

It is called the Body Parasite Mushroom in the Viz localization and the Parasite Mushroom in the Funimation subs.

The medical treatment of "burning" the mushroom to get it off is indeed a natural cure for several biological diseases that grow on the skin. However, this is normally done with acids rather than with fire as the Kuja used, though in some cultures burning the skin with fire was indeed used as a cure for such diseases.

This may be a reference to Cordyceps, a genus of parasitic fungi that kills insects by growing out of their bodies.

Laughing Mushroom

The Laughing Mushroom (ワライダケ, Warai-dake?) is a mushroom that induces the consumer to laugh happily out loud. It is perfect for those who are depressed and wish for a good time.

Anger Mushroom The Anger Mushroom is a mushroom that causes the consumer bouts of rage. An effective counter to this effect is eating a Laughing Mushroom.

Crying Mushroom The Crying Mushroom (ナキダケ, Naki-dake?) is a mushroom that causes the consumer bouts of weeping. An effective counter to this effect is eating a Laughing Mushroom.[24]

Stomach Baron

Stomach Baron (ストマックバロン, Sutomakku Baron?) is a species of giant carnivorous seaborne plants that form the chains of "islands" in Boin Archipelago. Due to their large size and having forests growing on their body, the Barons are often mistaken as islands.[25]

The forests have "plants" that are made of a variety of highly nutritional and delicious food in the middle of the island (which is actually the "mouth" of the Barons) luring prey (including sea kings) to venture there before the Barons consume them.[26]

The concept of the Stomach Baron is very similar to the Gourmetica insularis described in the 1999 novel "Die 13½ Leben des Käpt’n Blaubär“ (キャプテン・ブルーベアの13と1/2の人生, Kyaputen burūbea no 13 to 1/2 no jinsei?) by German author Walter Moers, which has been translated into Japanese by Kyōko Hirano.[27]

Weather Ball Weather Ball (天候ウェザーボール, Wezā Bōru?) is the most important invention on Weatheria. They grow in Weather Patches (天候畑, Tenkō Hata?) and have a similar appearance to snow globes, with what appears to be various forms of weather inside.[28][29]

Nami stole some of these from Weatheria, and later learned how to use them and turn them into weapons. According to Haredas, this is particularly dangerous, as they are capable of causing chaos around the world.[29]

The Weather Balls can also be used to store little pieces of clouds in them. When a few Weather Balls with clouds are combined, a big cloud is formed. The cloud can also shoot lightning. Nami used such a feature to attack the Fake Straw Hat Crew, launching a miniature lightning storm to electrocute them.[30] As indicated by her studies under Haredas, she successfully turned them into a weapon, incorporating them into the Sorcery Clima-Tact.

Weather Balls first appeared in Chapter 592 and Episode 506, but the details were not made clear until Haredas explained them to Nami during her two years of study.[28]

Elegant Sunflower

Elegant Sunflowers (エレガントサンフラワー, Ereganto Sanfurawā?)[33] are luminescent sunflowers, which have seen in Dressrosa. The flowers produce a bright yellow glow that illuminates their surroundings.[33] They first appear in Chapter 738 and Episode 671.

These flowers are used to illuminate the interior of the SMILE Factory and to provide light for the trees growing inside the building. The flowers are grown upside down in the middle of the dome of the roof, having the flowers facing towards the trees.[33]
