Kestrel from Wings of Fire is a large, tough, grumpy SkyWing dragon with jewel-hard, red-gold scales, fiery red wings and talons, and orange-yellow eyes, known for being a harsh trainer with burn scars from saving her daughter, Peril, and generally hostile due to loss and betrayal, though she has a protective side.

Physical appearance: Scales: Bright red-gold, like rust or flames, described as jewel-hard. Wings & Talons: Red. Eyes: Orange-yellow or amber. Size: Enormous, bigger than Queen Scarlet. Distinguishing Marks: Burn scars on her palms and cheek from saving Peril. Other: Has a forked tongue.

Personality & Role: Attitude: Mean, grumpy, aggressive, irritable, and often yells; believes dragons can't keep promises. Role: A member of the Talons of Peace, tasked with guarding the Dragonets of Destiny. Behavior: Teaches the dragonets harshly, using unfair tactics; bitter about losing her dragonets and being lied to. Protective Instinct: Despite her harshness, she shows fierce protectiveness, especially for Peril, and rushed to "save" the dragonets when tricked, showing her underlying care.

Kestrel's backstory in Wings of Fire is tragic: she was Queen Scarlet's loyal soldier who had rare twin dragonets, Peril and Sky, but lost them both after trying to escape Scarlet's tyranny, leading to her bitterness as a guardian for the Dragonets of Destiny. She was forced to abandon Sky and failed to rescue Peril, believing both were dead, which fueled her harsh treatment of the other dragonets, especially Glory, until her own violent death at Blister's talons in the epilogue.
