- #1Japari Cafeselective
Keys: Cafe, Japari Cafe
The Japari Café is a generic name for coffee shops operating in Japari Park and Kingdom. Though multiple locations may exist per setting, any given piece of Kemono Friends media tends to focus on just one of its own respective Japari Cafés.
Japari Café locations tend to be half-timbered, house-like buildings with gabled roofs- typically in red or blue- of a somewhat steep pitch, which may feature chimneys and/or dormers. Their interiors are often cozy and cottage-like, though the interior design itself varies greatly from location to location and depending on who manages a given café at a given time.
The staff of a Japari Café is typically composed largely or entirely of Friends.
- #2Japari Parkselective
Keys: Japari Park
Japari Park is a massive open zoo constructed on an archipelago resembling real-life Japan that is home to the Friends. It is the central recurring setting of most Kemono Friends media. The meaning of the word "Japari" is also uncertain. One popular theory suggests that it is a portmanteau of "Japan" and "Safari", owing to its functionality as a massive zoo and its uncanny resemblance to the island nation of Japan. Much of its known culture (as depicted in the manga) is distinctively Japanese as well, which seems to further substantiate this theory. Little is known about the history of the location prior to the discovery of Friends. Earlier settlement on the islands that comprise it, as well as their international sovereignty, is a mystery. At an undetermined point in modern human history, the archipelago was selected for the construction of a massive, open zoo where tourists from around the globe could see a great variety of animals in their natural habitats. It was an ambitious undertaking, and qualified scientists, such as Professor Kako, were invited to participate in bringing it to fruition. The zoo would be known as "Japari Park". The Park's development, however, would take a turn for the unexpected with the observation of a never-before-seen phenomenon within the zoo. Contrary to all known biological studies, the animals which resided on the island were reported as taking the forms of human girls. These mysterious lifeforms, which researches dubbed "Animal Girls", were seemingly capable of all things human: they possessed the ability to speak, a capacity for higher thinking and advanced motor skills befitting of their new bodies. Additionally, they retained abilities and characteristics reminiscent of their original forms, often to the point of granting them superhuman strength and agility. Japari Park is divided into nine distinctive regions, each with an equivalent area in real-world Japan. Some regions border one another, while others take up the entirety of smaller islands and are separated from their neighbors by sea. Nevertheless, all nine comprise the full map of Japari Park.
- #3Kyoshu regionselective
Keys: Kyoshu
The Kyōshū Region, equivalent to real-world Kyūshū, is featured as the first location visited by the player in the original Kemono Friends mobile game, serving as the setting of both the tutorial and Chapter 1. In this story, it was a temperate grassland home to several significant Friends, including Serval and Caracal. Perhaps its most significant appearance, however, was as the setting of 2017 anime. The human Friend Kaban and her companion Serval embarked on a long journey which took them all across Kyōshū. They befriended many of its denizens along the way and solved problems which only served to improve the quality of life for those who live there. It is through this adventure that we have been able to learn intimately about Kyōshū and its current state.
It is also worthwhile to note that, while the climate of Kyōshū in the original game was consistently that of a prairie, the presence of Sandstar has led to the formation of several distinct climate biomes by this point in time. These ecological changes were observed early enough for signs to be erected in the various "areas", and Lucky Beasts employed as robotic Park Guides were programmed to explain each biome to human visitors. Whether these changes were observed in the rest of Japari Park is unknown.
One striking feature of the region, only seen in the anime, is the presence of the Sandstar Mountain. It is a large volcano settled in the center of Kyōshū, from which Sandstar erupts, facilitating the birth of both new Friends and Celliens. Kyōshū has seen numerous smaller eruptions, but only there have only been three major eruptions in recorded history -- the third of which would serve as the catalyst to the events of the anime, as it resulted in the birth of Kaban. This mountain is outfitted with a filter built during the time when humans inhabited the region, which can limit the flow of Sandstar Rō from its volcanic crater when activated using stone tablets named after the Four Gods. Due to the presence of more dangerous Celliens, the Sandstar Mountain and its surrounding area are off-limits to regular Friends, who must obtain approval from the island's chief Professor Konoha in order to visit it.

Kemono Castle is a castle located in Park Central and is one of the landmarks of Japari Park. This castle is the iconic architecture of Japari Park. During the Queen's Incident, it was occupied and partially destroyed by celliens. It was later restored.
- #10Friendsselective
Keys: Animal girls · Secondary: Friend, Friends
Friends, created by Sandstar and native to Japari Park. They are animals, mythological creatures and artificial intelligence that have become anthropomorphized into human girls, retaining the most distinguishing features and capabilities of their original form. Physical characters vary greatly from Friend to Friend, as a natural result of the plurality of creatures from which they are formed. Their outfits as well as their non-human physical features (additional ears, tails, wings) are directly inspired by their original forms in both shape and coloration. For instance, bird Friends that are capable of flight all have a pair of wings connected to their heads, which matches the surrounding hair. All Friends are female, resembling healthy human girls roughly from their preteens to their late twenties. Friends are capable of speech and demonstrate a high capacity for learning comparable to that of humans, though they do not appear to be innately literate, and upon "birth" it does not seem they are universally aware of the name of their own species. Their abilities differ greatly depending on their animal of origin, and often easily surpass humans in raw physical aptitude. Due to Kemonoplasm's unique properties, their animalian body parts are able to phase through their clothing, provided they are not aware they are wearing clothes. Through sheer force of willpower, they can also make said body parts vanish if they believe with enough conviction that they are fully human. Friends are created by the interaction of Sandstar with animals, living or dead, including "remains" as miniscule as a single strand of hair. The transformation process is nearly instantaneous. Though the chances are slim (comparable to that of a real life multiple birth), two or more Friends of the same original species are able to exist concurrently. It has been observed that species of Friends born closer to the center of Japari Park are born wearing clothes resembling that of ready-made human fashion, compared to the costume-like appearances of those born in the outskirts of the safari. All Friends are comprised to some extent of Kemonoplasm, although Friends born of extinct animals or mythological creatures have a higher ratio than their regular animal counterparts. Friends' "animal parts" (tails, wings, etc.) are entirely comprised of Kemonoplasm and cannot be removed, although through sufficient force of will they can be vanished on command by their owners. Their clothing, while removeable, is also formed by this mysterious substance. It is unknown if Friends show signs of aging or are even capable of growing older to begin with, but they are vulnerable to "death" by both Celliens and unrelated accidents. Unlike humans, whose bodies become lifeless and decompose after death, Friends simply revert to their beastial forms after they "die" and live on as the original animal. Upon reversion, their lifespans are reset to the point immediately after they became Friends, clearing any memories they may have gained in their humanlike form. It is unknown whether or not a creature which became a Friend a second time would regain said memories.
- #11Kemonoplasmselective
Keys: Kemonoplasm · Secondary: Clothes, clothing
Kemonoplasm is the name given to the substance which makes up the animal biology of a Friend, such as animal ears or a tail. These properties are not anatomically connected to a Friend - rather, the Friend's body is exactly the same as a human's, but Kemonoplasm grants them animal traits. Extinct or fictitious Friends are made up almost entirely of Kemonoplasm. A Friend's clothing is also made up of a weaker concentration of Kemonoplasm.
- #12Celliensselective
Keys: Celliens, Cellien · Secondary: Cerulean
The Celliens is a territorial, invasive species of monster that is formed by the union of Sandstar and inorganic matter. They are mainly amorphous in shape, although they come in various shapes, sizes, and power levels.
Although it is understood that they are born from Sandstar coming into contact with inorganic matter, the details of Celliens' origins aren't fully understood. They were discovered at approximately the same time as the Friends themselves and much of what is known about them comes from research conducted on specimens captured early in their developmental stages.
Celliens come in all shapes and sizes. Although those featured in the game and anime were at least half the size of a Friend (and often much larger), research reports included in the second guidebook confirm that Celliens early in their development are much smaller, ranging from the size of large insects to microscopic specimens. The fullest extent to which a Cellien can grow, if there even is such a limit, is unknown.
Early research reports by human experts in Japari Park described the bodies of Celliens as "translucent like hard jelly beans", "rainbow-colored and beautiful" and "possessing a texture which is somehow both rigid and wiggly". Their body temperatures cannot be felt upon touch. The properties of the "eye" of a Cellien are compared to that of a nucleus, and research notes reveal that destroying it causes the entire body to collapse and vanish. Despite their often round and amorphous, algae-like appearance, they are in reality comprised of an assembly of blocks.
- #13Celliumselective
Keys: Cellium
Cellium is a substance which allow Celliens to form. Similar to Sandstar, Cellium comes from volcanic origin. Cellium cannot transform biological or non-biological matter into Celliens, instead relying on copying and then taking shape of pre-existing objects. While it comes from volcanoes like Sandstar, the two are distinct. Whereas Sandstar is "transformative" and transforms an animal into a Friend, Cellium is "reproductive" and retains the original object that the Cellien copied. In the past, Cellium was referred to as "Sandstar Low" or "Rho", indicating that a distinction between the two substances had not yet been made. Cellium can move and seek out objects that would make efficient Celliens, including Friends; in addition, it is able to form strong Celliens from things that humans have placed great importance upon, such as drawings and machines.
- #14Sandstarselective
Keys: Sandstar
Sandstar is a substance that transforms animals into Friends. Sandstar is often found in a solid state, where it resembles rainbow-colored crystals. But sandstar comes from volcanoes such as the one found in the later development of the Kyōshū Region, similarly to Cellium. Sandstars not only have the ability to produce Friends, but also to act on space, altering temperature, humidity, and sunlight.
- #15Sparkleselective
Keys: Sparkle
Sparkle is a mysterious, intangible energy that is best described as concentrated "good things". It is an abstract concept; existing within living things, inanimate objects, places, and perhaps even memories. Sparkles include things such as trust, motivation, hope, and joy. Celliens from Generation 2 were capable of stealing Sparkle and causing chaos within the Park. Because Generation ? is unaware of the existence of Sparkle, it is unknown if it has any relevance to the Friends of the era. However, recent materials confirm that Sparkle has not been retconned, though whether or not it will ever be seen again is as of yet unknown.
- #16Japari Bunsselective
Keys: Japari Buns, Japari Manju
Japari Buns are a food item found in Japari Park. Japari Buns are a form of Manjū that were at one point provided as a food option for both park visitors and Friends alike, and later became the primary form of sustenance for Friends after the Cellien invasion left Friends isolated from humanity. Japari Buns are a small pastry adorned with the Japari Park logo and a ring of dotted lines bordering the logo. The pastries are often colorful, with the primary color of the pastry on the top half and a lighter shade of said color making up the bottom half. Japari Buns are made with nutrition in mind, and are able to fulfill all the nutritional needs of Friends regardless of dietary habits. They also come in a variety of flavors, including ramune, carrot, chocolate, curry, and even odd flavors, such as roses. It is also shown that roasting Japari Buns is practiced, as it was suggested by Mirai in Arctic Hare's Character Quest. Despite this, it seems as if Friends will prefer Japari Buns that are flavored to their diet as an animal.
- #17Riukiu Regionselective
Keys: Riukiu, Riukiu Region
Riukiu Region is one of the regions of Japari Park. This region is modeled after the Ryukyu region of Japan. The climate in this region has changed with the passage of time. When humans were in the park, the climate was tropical, but when humans were out of sight, the climate became as varied as that of the Kyoshu Region.
