Keith Wichian

All that mafia thing seemed simply unreal. Of course, there were the bad guys who practiced... well, bad things, but it still looked like something like fiction, something merely invented for curious eyes. But come on, the truth was that no one exactly talks about guys like Keith Wichian, knowing better than that, preferring the pacific of their lives than getting involved in the chaos of the so unknown underworld.

It was a family thing, apparently, and Keith was just lucky... or unlucky enough to be the firstborn. He was doomed to whatever that destiny was, never exactly seeking to be sure if he was blessed or simply cursed; having accepted well everything that was given to him. It was all about money, power and fame, everything that could hardly be achieved without corruption, of course, the world was almost solely of the smart ones and he was more than relieved to be included in this privileged world. It was easy. Act like a good boy and no one around you will be suspicious.

And growing up like this wasn't difficult. Or at least it was what he tried to convince himself for years, because accepting the fact that he would never have a normal life haunted him. Until don’t matter anymore. Keith didn't take the performance of a "good boy" for a long time. He usually gets tired easily.

They would say that Keith was a delinquent with problematic tendencies who had probably spent years in juvenile and who had a large dragon tattoo hidden on his back. Seriously, it was such a nonsense... But still they used to avoid faces like him; little was known about Wichian and the reason for the scary aura, and no one would sink enough because if there was one thing everyone was right it was that: Keith Wichian had power, something that left him free from any consequence. And it's not that he was a cause of problems — at least not so casually — but there were situations in which you could differ a mere commoner and Keith Wichian.

But the thing of problems and the consequences that came with them was only on the outside, especially because no one was cheeky enough to enter. Let's be honest, Keith was surrounded by mobsters since childhood and, whether he wanted to or not, Keith would also end up becoming one them; he dealt with much more than would be a simple detention for smoking in the corridors. And fuck, Keith simply wished to have a normal life, of course, now, at the height of his nineteen years, with the weight of the world on his shoulders, his greatest desire was normality... Although he often loved the adrenaline of the life of the underworld.

---

He was called a role in childhood and Keith thought he was prepared, until everything simply happened so quickly that he could barely see before his eyes. Keith was reconciling his studies, the mafia organization — which were now practically in his name — and everything else, considering that he was doomed to such responsibilities. It was difficult to give up the life of indifference and inconsequences, because now he lived almost always at the limit; always one step ahead of everyone.

That was hell, really. His grandfather was now too old to deal with so much and that meant a great responsibility for the shoulders of the boy who... well, hated any kind of commitment. He has been avoiding it all his damn life; his school years were surrounded by rumors and he never got involved with anyone, preferring his own company. Countless were the times they saw the obvious expression of disgust on his face when assuming his responsibilities and duties... Anyway, Keith was not a coward and dealt with everything he needed so far. And look, maybe it wasn't so bad after all, because if he now had a more important role within the underworld it means that he got some good bonuses or some shit like that.

He was young, he needed to live! Keith was always popular in some way, even if it was almost unreachable; and that was probably what stirred the girls the most. Fuck, it was simply a sight for sore eyes to have his feet kissed by so many; a satisfaction that filled his lungs and made him go in the clouds like the cigarettes he smoked. It was intoxicating and at times like this Keith was more than satisfied.

And there were specific places, of course, usually great nightclubs that he ran and had the most unforgettable nights... or forgettable if we consider the fact that Keith drank enough to forget his own name. Well, it was a night like that, the neon lights radiated through the place and the loud music invaded the ears of others, smoke everywhere and it was hardly possible to have a logical vision in that nightclub. “Holy shit. I need to take a leake,” Keith murmured under his breath, almost inaudible, a bottle of drink in hand as he got up from the spacious sofa and distanced himself from where he was before with friends and some girls.

The nightclub was tumultuous at this point, people rubbing against each other and forcing Keith to go through that turmoil; eyes focused on the way ahead... Even an unknown face took him by surprise. ”Hm?” His gaze fell on the girl who, even in his bohemian years, Keith did not seem to recognize. The steps changed his direction before he realized it, targeting the girl who had a disgusted expression — exactly as he used to have. “You know, we’re very careful with those who enter our parties..." Keith was not drunk enough and so his words were obvious, slightly inclined torso and a hand resting on the back of the sofa when saying this in the girl's ear. “I wonder, what are you doing here...?" And he turned his face away, finding the girl's. The truth is that Keith liked to be in power, to have the chance to provoke. That's what left his spirits on high.
