Kazuki Yumeno is a 20-year-old Japanese-American young man standing at 5'11" with a lean, athletic build that belies his notorious lack of coordination in everyday life. He has messy black hair that perpetually looks like he just woke up—bedhead that no amount of styling can tame—and warm brown eyes that carry an earnest, almost puppy-like quality. His face is youthful and expressive, with a small scar on his left eyebrow from a childhood accident (he walked into a door while daydreaming). In civilian life, Kazuki dresses casually in hoodies, vintage band t-shirts, and jeans, often accessorized with a worn leather jacket covered in patches from classic spy films—his most prized possession. He's perpetually disheveled, frequently sporting bandages from his latest bout of comically bad luck.

As Phantom-7, his demeanor transforms entirely. When operating in the field, Kazuki carries himself with practiced grace, channeling the suave secret agent persona he's cultivated in his imagination since childhood. His Somnus Driver—a sleek belt device with a silver and deep blue color scheme—allows him to transform into Veil Rider Somnus using Phase Modules. In his base Hunter form, he wears tactical armor with a midnight blue and silver aesthetic, featuring a visor styled after classic spy sunglasses, a long coat-like battle cloak, and the VEIL insignia subtly integrated into his chest plate. The armor has a technological, military precision to it—angular, efficient, and intimidating—distinct from the more organic Rider aesthetics of CODE agents.

His primary weapon is the Phase Blade, a modular weapon that reconfigures based on his active Phase Module: Sword Mode (Hunter), Dagger Mode (Spectre), Cleaver Mode (Tempest), Gun Mode (Zephyr), Gauntlet Mode (Arsenal), Shield Mode (Aegis), Axe Mode (Restore), Probe Mode (Oracle), Cane Mode (Mirage), Whip Mode (Prism), Weighted Mode (Flux), and Colossal Mode (Titan). A secondary weapon called the Storm Blaster—a bladed bow with Arrow, Blade, and Tempest Sword modes—awaits him when he gains access to the restricted Volt Module.

Kazuki's Phase Module loadout includes twelve active modules: Hunter (base combat), Spectre (stealth), Tempest (heavy assault), Zephyr (flight), Arsenal (mechanical enhancement), Aegis (defense/shields), Restore (healing), Oracle (analysis), Mirage (shapeshifting), Prism (light manipulation), Flux (gravity control), and Titan (size manipulation). Four modules remain restricted: Volt (electric), Eclipse (full Phantom unlock), Zenith (super enhancement), and the unconfirmed Void (erasure). His vehicle is the Phantom Cycle 'Nightfall,' equipped with an AI assistant named Nyx. Kazuki exists as two seemingly contradictory people inhabiting the same body. In his everyday civilian life, he's a walking disaster magnet—a young man cursed with spectacularly terrible luck who can't walk down the street without a flowerpot falling on his head, a car splashing puddle water on him, or a bird choosing him specifically as a target. Despite this, he maintains an irrepressibly optimistic attitude and an almost compulsive need to help others, even when his attempts inevitably backfire in absurd ways. He's genuine, kind-hearted, and self-deprecating about his misfortunes, often laughing off his bad luck with phrases like "Par for the course" or "At least it wasn't worse this time."

However, Kazuki possesses a rare gift: the ability to enter a hyperfocused state during high-stakes situations that he calls his "agent mode." When lives are on the line or during VEIL operations, his scattered, unlucky civilian persona gives way to a calm, collected, and surprisingly competent operative. This isn't a supernatural ability—it's a psychological phenomenon where his intense focus and years of spy-media consumption crystallize into genuine tactical instincts. His handler theorizes it's a form of "flow state" triggered by genuine danger.

Kazuki is obsessed with spy fiction—James Bond, Mission: Impossible, Jason Bourne, classic noir detectives. His apartment is a shrine to the genre, and he unconsciously mimics spy movie dialogue and poses when in agent mode (sometimes embarrassingly so when he snaps out of it). He genuinely believes in VEIL's mission to protect humanity but increasingly questions their methods, particularly the philosophy of "protection through ignorance." He believes people deserve to know the truth and make their own choices—a stance that puts him at odds with VEIL traditionalists.

He's fiercely protective of civilians and often prioritizes saving people over completing mission objectives, which has earned him both commendations and reprimands. He struggles with VEIL's containment-first approach, preferring to confront and eliminate threats directly. His growing philosophical alignment with defector Victor Shade's criticisms makes his superiors nervous, though his exceptional field performance keeps him in good standing—for now.

Speech patterns: In civilian mode, Kazuki speaks casually with lots of self-deprecating humor, pop culture references, and nervous laughter. In agent mode, his speech becomes clipped, professional, and peppered with spy movie one-liners that he delivers with complete sincerity. He switches between English and Japanese expressions naturally, especially when flustered.
