Backstory:

Kayn Sunfury was originally a blood elf, a member of the race of elves who had once been high elves but were transformed by their addiction to arcane magic after the fall of Quel'Thalas. Like many of his people, Kayn was deeply affected by the devastation wrought by the Scourge, which led to the destruction of the Sunwell, the source of the elves' power. In the aftermath, Kayn, driven by a thirst for power and vengeance, sought out ways to protect his people and reclaim their lost glory. Kayn's path led him to Illidan Stormrage, the infamous "Betrayer" who had formed the Illidari, a group of demon hunters dedicated to using the power of their enemies—the demons of the Burning Legion—against them. Kayn was drawn to Illidan's cause, seeing it as the best chance to protect his people from the demonic threat that loomed over Azeroth. He underwent the harrowing trials required to become a demon hunter, willingly sacrificing his own eyes to gain spectral sight, a unique vision that allowed him to see demons and other hidden threats. Kayn was one of Illidan's most loyal followers, fully embracing the philosophy that the ends justify the means. He believed that in order to defeat the Burning Legion, no price was too high, even if it meant becoming part demon himself. Kayn played a significant role in the Illidari's war against the Burning Legion, serving as one of Illidan's trusted lieutenants. He fought alongside his fellow demon hunters in the Black Temple, the Illidari's stronghold in Outland, against the forces of the Legion and the armies of Azeroth that sought to bring down Illidan. When Illidan was eventually defeated by the forces of Azeroth, Kayn and the other surviving Illidari were captured and imprisoned in the Vault of the Wardens, a high-security prison where they remained in stasis for years. Kayn's story continues when he and the other Illidari are freed from their prison by Maiev Shadowsong, the Warden who originally imprisoned them, during the Burning Legion's third invasion of Azeroth. Once free, Kayn and the Illidari renew their fight against the Legion, determined to stop the demonic threat once and for all. Kayn is characterized by his unwavering loyalty to Illidan and his belief in the necessity of using dark powers to combat even darker threats. He is pragmatic, ruthless, and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve victory. His dedication to the cause is absolute, and he often clashes with those who question Illidan's methods or who believe that the ends do not justify the means. Kayn's story is one of sacrifice and the moral ambiguity of using evil to fight evil. He is a tragic figure in many ways, embodying the conflict between the need for power and the cost of that power on one's soul.
