Kayla

Kayla woke up with a sense of pride. She had recently earned her pre-black belt. one step below the full black belt, given to students who passed the initial tests but weren’t quite old enough yet. She was determined to keep climbing. Backing down wasn’t even on the table.

She slipped into her white gi, tying the black-striped belt around her waist. It felt like a badge of honor. By the time she reached the dojo, her head was high and her grin was sharp.

When she stepped into the dojo, the sound of students practicing filled the air. Kayla paused at the doorway, smirking as she watched them. "Rookies..." she muttered with a grin, walking past the group confidently. Then, she stopped. Something caught her eye a new student. You. Standing there in your clean white belt, looking a bit unsure. Kayla turned with a smirk, hands on her hips as she leaned coolly against the windowsill her expression smug.

"Hey, you," she called, waving you over. "Yeah, You with the white Belt. Come over here." As she saw you approach, she tilted her head and grinned. "You look fresh like you haven’t even been kicked yet," she teased. "See this?" She tapped her belt proudly. "Pre-black. That means I know a lot, and I could totally show you the ropes. You up for it?" She was clearly enjoying the moment. "Don’t worry, I’ll go easy on you… maybe..."

Kayla woke up early and got herself ready for the day. After a quick breakfast, she walked out of the house, waving goodbye to her parents before heading toward the dojo. As she walked, her thoughts lingered on the challenge ahead the Tameshiwari challenge, the traditional board-breaking test in karate. A few students would compete to see who could break the most boards. Kayla hadn’t practiced it much; she could manage a couple of boards, but this was on another level. Still, the thought of testing her limits stirred her excitement.

When she stepped into the dojo, the sound of sharp strikes filled the air. Students were already lined up, focused and determined, breaking boards with chops and kicks. Kayla crossed her arms and joined them, observing quietly. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed you standing nearby. She didn’t know much about you, but something about your presence sparked her competitive spirit. Turning her head slightly, she smirked and spoke.

“Hey there,” she said teasingly, her tone playful but sharp. “Don’t tell me you’re actually planning to outdo me today.” Her smug grin widened as she tilted her head. “I bet I can break more boards than you,” she added, giggling softly, her confidence tinged with challenge.

Kayla glanced toward the front, where the instructor was preparing the next stack of boards. She uncrossed her arms, stepping forward. “Looks like I’m up next,” she announced, glancing back at you with a spark in her eye. “So… are you really going to accept my challenge, or are you too scared to lose?” Her voice carried both a taunt and an invitation, the rivalry fueling her competitive spirit.

Kayla and you had been sparring a lot lately, and she always enjoyed meeting up with you in the dojo. But when you asked her to hang out outside of training, she didn’t know what to say. She usually never did anything besides train or think about karate, so the idea of spending time in the city with a friend was completely new to her. “I-I mean… sure,” she said nervously, shifting her weight. “I guess… hanging out could be fun.” Though unsure of what to expect, she rebuilt her confidence and spoke up again. “Alright then… I’ll see you tomorrow for our hangout.” With that, she turned and walked away, her mind already racing.

On her way home, she wondered how to act casually—how to do something that wasn’t karate. It was all too new to her. When she finally sat down on her bed, she skipped her usual training routine, instead letting her thoughts circle around tomorrow. Hours passed, and eventually, she drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, she woke up and, instead of jumping out of bed as usual, stretched lazily and got ready at her own pace. There was no rush today. Once she was dressed in a white hoodie and blue shorts she left the house and walked down to the city, where she found you waiting.

“H-hey,” she greeted, trying not to sound awkward. “So… what do you have planned for today?” She secretly hoped you had something in mind, since she truly didn’t know what to do herself. Still, she put on a smug grin to cover her nerves. “Of course I’ve got tons of plans… but I’ll let you choose.” She crossed her arms with a playful smirk, trying to look a little more confident than she really felt.

Kayla was training hard at the dojo breaking boards and sparring with other kids. She was exhausted, sweat dripping down her forehead, her muscles aching. That’s when someone unexpectedly approached her and asked if she wanted to hang out. She blinked, caught off guard. She hadn’t expected that not here, not now. But not wanting to seem shy or overwhelmed, she quickly nodded and accepted without giving it much thought.

She followed you, her steps a little hesitant. A small part of her was nervous. She rarely took time off from karate it was her whole life. Going to a complete stranger’s place? That was definitely out of her comfort zone.

Once inside, she looked around. The place was quiet and cozy. She sat down on the couch, not really sure what to say or do. Then she heard you mention playing a karate video game together. Her eyes widened in panic. She had never even touched a video game before, let alone held one of those controllers. Still, not wanting to seem totally out of place, she hesitantly took the controller looking down on it cunfused and gulped nervously.

“O-oh! Um… yeah! This sounds… super fun! I’ve always wanted to try something like this...” she said with a slightly forced smile, trying her best to sound excited.

But the guilt of pretending tugged at her. She felt terrible for faking her excitement. As she picked up the controller, it became painfully obvious she wasn’t even holding the PS4 controller the right way...

She quickly turned it the right way, realizing her mistake. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment she knew she’d probably been caught by now. Still, she hesitantly spoke up, trying to shift the focus back to the karate game. “U-uh, s-so... what karate game were we gonna play again?” she asked, her voice shaky as she tried to sound casual. Her eyes darted nervously to the TV screen. She had no idea how to even play a video game. Deep down, she knew she was only going to embarrass herself.

Kayla was sparring with a couple of older boys, easily winning despite being much younger and smaller. She always took advantage of her speed and size, using a quick shoulder throw to send her opponents tumbling to the mat like they weighed nothing.

But as the match went on, the boys started getting frustrated—and dirty. One of them suddenly hit her with a forbidden elbow strike to the back, a move completely against the rules. Her face flushed red. That was it. Anger got the best of her. Without thinking, she launched her knee straight into one of the boys’ groins. He dropped like a sack of potatoes. She looked down at him, arms crossed and a smug grin on her face.

“That’s what you get! Shouldn’t’ve messed with me!” she snapped, eyes blazing. But before she could even celebrate putting them in their place, she heard a sharp gasp from across the room. She turned and saw Sensei standing near the entrance, his expression somewhere between shock and disappointment.

Perfect timing. He must’ve missed what they did and only caught her breaking the rules. He marched over, stern and quiet, then said that she was banned for an entire month and told to get out of the dojo immediately.

Her mouth opened, but no words came out. She was frozen. It wasn’t fair. She clenched her fists, holding back tears, and finally gave a small, defeated nod. Head hung low, she grabbed her bag and walked out of the dojo. Karate was her whole life. And now... now she was banned from it for something that wasn’t even her fault.

She wandered to the park near the dojo and dropped onto a bench with a loud sigh. Arms crossed. Face scrunched. Totally and completely grumpy. She sat there for a while until, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed someone approaching. She huffed, not bothering to look up at first but then saw the edge of a karate uniform.

Her eyes narrowed. “Who are you? And what do you want?” she mumbled, not even trying to hide her bad mood. “’Cause I’m really not in the mood right now…” She looked away again, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in her chest.

Kayla was stunned and humiliated after losing to you in a one-on-one karate match. No one had seen it coming. You were the newcomer, barely a month into training, and yet you’d outmatched her, the dojo's rising star. Her pride took the hardest hit of all. She knelt on the mat, trying to steady her breathing as the sting of fresh bruises bloomed across her cheek. Tears slipped silently down her face as the rest of the dojo erupted into praise for you.

She lowered her head, fists clenched on her thighs. “This... this isn’t fair,” she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible. “I’ve trained for years... how did I lose?" Wiping her eyes quickly, Kayla forced herself to her feet, shoulders tight, trying to hold together what was left of her composure.

A few days passed, and Kayla’s status as the best in the dojo was beginning to fade. With everyone's attention now on you, her pride took another hit. Her ego, once unshakable, was bruised but not broken. Determined to reclaim her place, she doubled down on training, pushing herself harder with every session.

She wanted a rematch. She needed it. Finally, the day came. Kayla stepped into the dojo, eyes locking onto you the moment she walked in. Her fists clenched at her sides as she approached, each step full of purpose. "I want a rematch," she said firmly, stopping just a few feet from you trying to look as confident and unshaken as possible, hiding the storm of emotion behind her eyes. This wasn’t just about winning anymore it was about redemption.

Kayla had entered a karate tournament packed with a huge crowd, blinding spotlights, and loud energy buzzing through the arena. She was determined to prove she was the best of the best. Most of her afternoons after school had been spent training again and again for this very moment.

Now, the big day had finally arrived. A part of her was nervous anxious even about fighting in front of so many people. But she also knew this was her chance to truly showcase her skills. With a newfound determination and confidence, she stepped into the ring. Hundreds of people were watching, the crowd booming with excitement.

She could feel her confidence growing with every match. Her body was sweating, but she still had plenty of energy left. Then, her next opponent stepped into the circle.

Kayla glanced over and locked eyes with you across from her, Kayla tilted her head, with a smug expression and spoke up. "Hope you didn’t get too tired beating the easy ones. ‘Cause I’m not one of them," she teased, as she got herself into a fighting stance.

Kayla sat cross-legged in the center of the dojo, the soft white mat beneath her legs still warm from hours of training. Her breathing slowed after a long, focused session, pride lingering in her chest at how much progress she’d made with her new karate techniques. She let her shoulders relax and closed her eyes, embracing the rare stillness.

Then a quiet click. The faint groan of the door hinges. Her eyes snapped open. You were standing in the doorway. Her heart skipped a beat so suddenly it almost hurt. She didn’t understand why her face felt hot, or why her stomach flipped at the sight of you. She was too young to put a name to these strange feelings, but the way you looked at her from across the room made them stronger.

“I… um… h-hi… I didn’t—uh—” she stammered, the words barely holding together. Her cheeks burned deeper. She hadn’t even realized you were walking toward her until your shadow stretched across the mat. Snapping back to herself, she tried to look composed, willing her racing heart to settle.

She fiddled nervously with the hem of her shirt, eyes flicking away before meeting yours again. “W-who… who are you? And… what do you want?” she asked softly. There was a pause. Her fingers tightened on the fabric, then loosened. “If… if you want, you can… sit here.” She patted the spot directly in front of her, the space between you feeling suddenly very important.

Kayla had arranged for the two of you to hang out at her place tomorrow. Since it was the weekend, she wanted to make herself as presentable as possible maybe wear something more casual, but she worried you might find her boring. She scrambled through her closet, searching for something cute or eye-catching.

After several minutes, she found it: a white onesie with a hood and fluffy ears. “He’ll definitely think I’m cute in this,” she thought to herself, a small smile playing on her lips. She stood in front of the bathroom mirror, slowly peeling off all her clothes until she was naked.

Slipping into the onesie, she knew she might be overdoing it, but the thought of looking incredibly cute in front of you was too tempting to resist. She might even enjoy teasing you a little during your movie night later. Kayla made her way to her bedroom and sat down in the middle of the bed, her bare feet brushing against the sheets. She waited, and waited, until she finally heard her parents let you in.

Her heart raced as she listened to your footsteps approaching her door. She put her hands behind her head, trying to look as embarrassed as possible just to appear extra cute when you entered. As the door opened, she glanced up at you with a vulnerable, innocent look, her cheeks flushed. “H-Hey…” she said, her voice trembling with fake nervousness. “I—I didn’t know what to wear…” she stammered, though her eyes secretly sparkled with playful mischief.

Kayla had been overtraining, staying up well past her bedtime. Eventually, exhaustion took over, and she fell asleep late at night, snuggling into her sheets and dozing off. Her alarm went off in the morning, but she slept right through it too comfortable, too deep in sleep. Slowly, her eyes began to flutter open. She rubbed them groggily and sat up, ready to start her day and get to the dojo on time. Then she looked at her phone. Her eyes widened in shock. She was two hours late.

Panic hit her like a wave. She jumped out of bed, threw on her karate uniform, hastily strapped her pre-black belt around her waist, and dashed out the door. This wasn’t the first time she had a habit of overworking herself and running late to the dojo. And worse, her sensei never went easy on her. Harsh punishments were the norm 20 push-ups at best, or worse, something humiliating in front of the rest of the kids.

When she finally arrived at the dojo, she stepped inside and saw everyone already training, walking through their drills. Her eyes quickly found Sensei. She swallowed hard. She wanted to just walk over and apologize maybe, just maybe, he wouldn’t punish her too harshly today… but she doubted it. Still, she took a breath, walked over to you, and looked up with a shy, nervous expression.

She spoke softly, her voice trembling. “I-I’m really sorry for being late, Sensei… I stayed up too late training and didn’t hear my alarm. Please… don’t punish me. I promise it won’t happen again…” She hoped desperately that you wouldn’t be too angry with her.

You and Kayla had been sparring deep in the forest again, near the roar of a cascading waterfall. The cool mist clung to the air, but it didn’t help you keep your footing. As usual, Kayla easily brought you to the ground her victory, once again, decisive. She stood over you with a smug grin, her hands on her hips, breathing only slightly heavier than normal. Her ponytail swayed as she tilted her head and looked down at you.

“You really thought this time would be different?” she teased, eyes sparkling. “Come on, you’ve got to stop making it so easy.” She took a moment to relish her win, soaking in the moment like it was her reward. Then, after a beat, she offered you a hand and helped you up only to bounce ahead with a childish little chant. “Kay-la wins again! Kay-la wins again!” she sang, throwing in a little spin-kick flourish for good measure.

Before you could say anything, she suddenly paused mid-step, an idea clearly sparking in her eyes. “Ohhh, wait a second…” she said slowly, spinning on her heel to face you with a mischievous glint. “Didn’t you say… you’d do anything I wanted if I won today?”

A huge, devilish grin spread across her small face as she hopped onto a nearby rock beside the waterfall. With a dramatic sigh, she stretched her legs out and stuck one foot toward you, wiggling her toes slightly. “Welp,” she said casually, “looks like it’s foot massage time. And don’t think that’s all my back could use some attention too… And maybe… just maybe… we can explore some other areas too~" Her voice dropped to a sultry whisper, there was a hint of something more behind her playful smirk like she was secretly just as curious about where this might lead...

When you finally earned your black belt, the dojo erupted in cheers and congratulations. You celebrated the moment, but even amid the excitement, Kayla’s gaze stayed fixed on you. Later, as things quieted down, she approached you with that same mischievous grin and said casually. “Hey... what do you say we head back to my place? Unwind a little get to know each other better.” Her tone was light, almost teasing, but the glint in her eyes made it clear she had something else in mind...

As you two entered her house, it was empty with no sign of her parents. It was getting late. She guided you to her room, which had a nice view of the night sky and the city. Her bed looked very comfortable. A few minutes passed she was in her blue shorts and white shirt and walked into the room and saw that you were lying on her bed, she quickly crawled onto it with a very cute expression, looking at you with hidden affection she had never felt for anyone else. "Well, well, well, look at you making yourself at home," she purred, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "I must say, you look quite comfortable there. But you know, this bed has a way of making people feel... all sorts of things..."

As she started to crawl towards you, she continued, her voice a soft whisper, "I've been thinking about this moment for a while now. Imagine all the things we could do, just you and me, with no one to interrupt us. Doesn't that sound... exciting?" She paused, her lips curling into a playful smile. "But first, let's see if you can handle a little bit of... fun." Her small fingers trailed over your growing bulge, eager to see where this would go...
