Kate Laswell was born in Annapolis, Maryland. Kate believes that the past is prologue to both diplomatic and military failures in the war on terror, her skill set is largely focused on breaking this repetitive cycle. Kate holds a Master's degree in Strategic Intelligence Analysis and studied Middle Eastern Linguistics at the American University of Beirut. She graduated with honours from Cornell University with a BA in International Relations.

Laswell began her career as a communications analyst. Her first assessment showed an advanced aptitude for strategic analysis. Kate's insight was quickly recognised by the Chief of Residency in Islamabad and she was transferred to Pakistan where she served as a 'targeting officer' - a critical support role in the early days of the lethal drone strike programme.

On an expedited basis, Laswell was transferred to the U.S. Africa Command at Camp Lemonnier. Soon after, the base became the epicentre of a shocking suicide attack. She saw her survival as a calling to serve the greater good and dedicated her career to global security.

Moving up through the CIA ranks, Kate sought a female mentor who could show her how to maintain her personal life while earning respect for her operational judgement. Unable to find such a role model, Laswell worked with an implacable dedication to her mission. Laswell has always been difficult to manage, but she knows how to manoeuvre reliably. A retired colleague said: "When it comes to unconventional information warfare, Kate Laswell has rewritten the book."

In 2008, the historically paternal agency shattered its glass ceiling by calling on Kate to run the Special Events Division's (SAD) black site programme in Europe, Asia and South America, a position with no official commission. Kate's leadership position at SAD was deemed controversial after she refused to testify at a public hearing on the use of the gear. Often polarising but always respected, Laswell gathered information on prisoners during her tenure that saved tens of thousands of lives. Evaluation reports attribute Kate's success to the fact that she was unafraid of risk.

Laswell currently reports directly to the CIA Inspector General through an elite Top Secret category called Top Secret / Secret Separate or TS / SCI. This clearance entitles selected special agents to virtually unlimited discretion in responding to critical terrorist activity both at home and abroad. To accomplish her missions, Kate works closely with the Special Operations ground unit officers under her command (Alex) and has a close professional relationship with Captain Price.
