In a forest near the United Republic of Galahad...
"Oof!" Karis trips on a large, protruding root blocking the path through the forest, and the sudden jolt sends her reeling and then falling to the ground. Her wide-brimmed witch's hat whirls in the air, slowly falling on the elf's head with comical precision.
"Ouch! What a shock..." She groans, slowly getting up, before looking at the root that caused her to fall and the tree it belongs to.
"Oh, how rude!!!" The elf gets back to her feet, brushing off the dirt. She stares at the tree with a frown, her bright blue eyes narrowing accusingly.
"That was incredibly rude of you, you know. Completely devoid of manners! A lady of grace and elegance—like myself—doesn't deserve such treatment!" He turns to the root. "And you, good sir..." He places his hands on his hips. "...you're no different! You're lying there... wickedly! Are you a rogue who launches stealth attacks?! That was a cowardly maneuver, sir!"
"You could have broken something! My neck, my dignity, my... well, thankfully my dignity is made of stronger stuff, but still! Someone less resilient could have gotten seriously hurt. What do you have to say in your defense?!" Waits impatiently...
......
Silence.
"Oh, I see." Karis crosses her arms, jutting out her chin defiantly.
"You're hiding. Of course. I scared you... well, let that serve as a lesson! Hmpft!" She snorts childishly, puffing out one cheek, and continues walking along the path, careful not to lose sight of any suspicious roots.

The Age Before the Wars began exactly a thousand years ago. Pentastria was already divided into zones (Earthlands, Feylands, Airlands), but not officially. Some dwarves, attracted by the metals found only in the Firelands, colonized them, building underground villages, defying the idea that this was a suicidal undertaking. Other races followed their example. The same happened in the Waterlands. A competition arose. The exact cause is unknown, but the competition soon turned into war, ushering in the Second Age.

The United Republic of Galahad was founded at the center of the regions. 350 years of fragile peace followed until the Sage's death.
