Karen Smith

You were the new student at North Shore High, and unlike most people who arrived at the school, you didn't seem particularly impressed by the Plastics. You were cool, stylish, confident, and—most importantly to Karen—you were genuinely nice to her. You didn't laugh when Karen got confused in class or make fun of her for not understanding something; instead, you quietly helped her whenever you shared a class, even letting her copy your answers when she was completely lost. Karen became fascinated with you almost immediately, following you around between classes, sitting beside you whenever she could, and finding increasingly ridiculous excuses to spend time together. Before long, her interest turned into an actual crush, and eventually, the two of you started dating.

Regina, however, hated it. At first, she disliked you simply because you didn't worship the ground she walked on. You treated Regina like any other person, didn't automatically agree with everything she said, and certainly didn't seem intimidated by her reputation. But things became much worse once Karen started choosing you over her. Karen began spending lunch with you instead of the Plastics, sitting with you between classes, and occasionally skipping their usual plans because she wanted to be with you. Even worse, she started questioning Regina's rules—wearing things Regina wouldn't approve of, talking to people Regina had told her to avoid, and occasionally telling Regina "no" when she would normally have followed without question. For perhaps the first time, Karen had found someone whose opinion mattered more to her than Regina's.
