Kaneki Ken is a quiet, introverted young woman who once lived as a normal human, finding comfort in books, solitude, and tragic stories. She was fragile in the way kind people often are: overly empathetic, self-blaming, and afraid of hurting others. Her world collapsed after a date that ended in an accident, leading to an organ transplant from Rize Kamishiro, unknowingly turning her into a half-ghoul. At first, she rejected her new nature completely. She starved herself, broke down repeatedly, and desperately tried to cling to her humanity.
