Throughout the entire series, Bulma has changed her appearance more than any other character, going through a total of 18 different hairstyles. Her hair color varies between appearances, having been colored various shades of purple, blue, and turquoise. Her hairstyle was shoulder-length as a teenager. Many of the clothes she is seen wearing often bear her name or the Capsule Corporation logo on it.
Bulma had a youthful and tender appearance in her teen years, such as with her light-colored skin. In her teen years her bust measurement was 85cm, her waist measurement was 58cm, and her hip measurement was 84cm.[11] According to Zuno, her bust measurement as an adult was 87.2cm before breastfeeding, and 83.4cm after.[20]
In her initial appearance, Bulma had her hair in a braided ponytail with a red ribbon and wore a very short pink dress with her name on it with blue sneakers and purple socks. Due to wetting her panties when being captured by a pterodactyl, her clothes are quickly changed to a pair of boots, gray pants and a blue jacket with a white tank top underneath with her hair unchanged.
When she was staying the night in her Capsule House she wore a pink nightgown with one side of her hair in a side ponytail and adds a pair of pink socks and blue sneakers to it when she was forced to take Turtle to the beach. After coming back from the beach, Bulma is briefly seen in a white shirt and pants with brown shoes and gloves when attempting to ride Goku's Flying Nimbus.
When dealing with Oolong in Aru Village, Bulma is seen in one of her more consistent appearances featuring her hair down and wearing a pair of brown short shorts, red and white shoes, pink socks, a red jacket with a white shirt underneath and a red hat with her name on it.
Since she loses her Capsules at a river, she is forced to wear a Bunny Costume since she thinks the previous outfit got too dirty for her to wear. She wears the Bunny costume until she gets a pair of gypsy styled clothes at Monster Carrot's Village. The gypsy clothes consisted of her hair in a ponytail while wearing a white suit with a red waistband, a golden collar, a small blue jacket, gold armlets, and red sandals. She wears this outfit until she gets back to West City.
When she attended the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament she wears a red tank top that has her name on it, a white shirt underneath, orange skirt, yellow socks, and purple shoes. Her hair is also in a ponytail with a red bow on her head. During the time, Bulma met back with Goku in West City during his time being targeted by the Red Ribbon Army, Bulma wore a red tube top that leaves her shoulders exposed, orange shorts, and pink shoes with purple socks while having her hair in a side ponytail. When she was with Krillin being pursued by General Blue in the Pirate Cave she left her shorts, shoes, and socks behind to swim and was just in her red tube top and red panties that showed her butt crack at the back.
After getting back to Kame House after the incident she is seen wearing an outfit which is identical to the outfit worn before but everything being pink. She wears this outfit all the way until the end of the Fortuneteller Baba Saga.
After the three-year time skip, she has her hair cut shorter and wears an opened-up orange sweatshirt, a red shirt underneath, white skirt, orange socks and blue shoes with orange laces at the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament. She wears this same outfit minus the orange sweatshirt for part of the King Piccolo Saga. In the later half, she switches to a blue shirt and skirt. After King Piccolo's defeat, Bulma is seen wearing a white and blue striped shirt with an orange skirt. After another three-year time skip during the Piccolo Jr. Saga, she wears a sleeveless dark blue turtleneck dress with a white belt that has a pouch to the side. She also is wearing white boots with yellow socks and has her hair at shoulder length again as well as wearing red lipstick. She also wears pink earrings and wears a pink bracelet on her left wrist. She also had the same appearance in The World's Strongest and Lord Slug.
After the five-year gap that begins Dragon Ball Z, Bulma has her hair cut short again and wears white shorts, blue socks, blue and orange shoes and a blue shirt that leaves her shoulders exposed underneath an open white coat. After the year has passed in the middle of the Vegeta Saga, Bulma wears a blue shirt with a white collar and white edges on the sleeves as well as matching blue shorts with the edges on the bottom. Her hair is also back to a ponytail with a red bow. After the battle of the Saiyans is over, Bulma wears a white shirt that says Capsule Corporation and a pair of tight red jeans and has her hair all the way down with it longer than before. While on the ship on their trip to Namek, Bulma had her hair cut to shoulder length again and wore only her gray tank top and panties while traveling on board the Nameless Namekian's Spaceship (a reference to Ellen Ripley in the Alien films). While on Namek, she wore a perfectly fitting black jumpsuit on the whole body with a yellow tunic over it and pair of orange boots as with as a red hairband. In the Androids Saga, she wore an exposed midriff in a red crop top with an orange ultra short jacket, cropped jeans, & high-top sneakers. By the end she's wearing a burgundy long-sleeved shirt, white pants, and her hair was still shoulder-length which is also retained in Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan while in Bojack Unbound, she wears a yellow spaghetti strap crop tank top which bared her midriff, a yellow headband, white jean shorts, a pearl necklace, a red ring around her wrist, red flip flops, and also retains her hairstyle from the Androids Saga.
In the Buu Saga, she wore a sleeveless green dress with the shoes similar to what her son wear, and her hair is bowl-cut, and she also wears gold hoop earrings. At the Capsule Corporation garage, she wears a brown long-sleeved button-down shirt with dark green pants, a dark brown vest, and brown gloves. At the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament and for the majority of the Buu Saga, her green dress is replaced with a sleeveless red dress and a yellow kerchief tied around her neck, although she switches back to the green dress for the party celebration for the defeat of Kid Buu in "He's Always Late".
In the Daima Saga, Bulma wore a full-sleeve top with the torso arm portion being pink and the abdominal portion being white, black leggings with red and black boots. Additionally, she wears a silver chain with a Capsule Corp logo amulet. She temporarily switches to wearing a yellow boilersuit with brown safety gloves when fixing Shin's spaceship.
In Battle of Gods and early Dragon Ball Super, Bulma wears a sleeveless purple dress and a light green kerchief tied around her neck resembling her outfit that she wore in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament and wears red sneakers and also wears small gold earrings instead of gold hoop earrings and she also retains her bowl-cut hairstyle from the Buu Saga.
In Fusion Reborn, she wears the same appearance from the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament in the Majin Buu Saga while in Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon, her red dress and a yellow kerchief is replaced by a blue dress which resembles her green dress.
For Resurrection ‘F’ and Dragon Ball Super, Bulma receives a new outfit which she wears a white t-shirt, a red bandanna, jeans, cowgirl boots, and wears stud earrings. She later wears an outfit identical to her future self, but her short-sleeved undershirt is green, her jeans are pale blue and wears brown flats. While pregnant with Bulla, Bulma wears a pink sleeveless maternity dress with a white long sleeve shirt, gray leggings and black shoes.
In Broly, she wears a purple jacket with yellow sleeves, a black bra-like garment, white shorts, yellow sunglasses, blue shoes and nail polish, and red lipstick.
In Super Hero, she wears a lemon-yellow boilersuit with her trousers being rolled up and a full-sleeve grey shirt underneath, orange safety shoes with grey socks, and a pair of white earrings. She retains a similar hair style from Broly though with some minute changes to the styling.
In the Peaceful World Saga, she wears a yellow and black dress with a black leather jacket and brown gloves and black boots and retains her bowl-cut hairstyle from the Buu Saga, but with an open bang and now wears gold triangle earrings. She also has a few wrinkles.
In Dragon Ball GT, Bulma wears a long-sleeved orange dress with white pearls and black boots and retains the same hairstyle and the same gold triangle earrings from the end of Dragon Ball Z.
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, Bulma still retains a youthful look despite being present in Age 1000. She wears a dark green shirt and light green pants with a belt. Most distinctively however is a floating Halo-like object which she can make appear around her neck.
Bulma has a temperamental personality while being very tomboyish and girly at the same time. While known for her extreme intellect, Bulma is quite spoiled and vain, using her beauty as an excuse for doing and getting whatever she wants; this sort of behavior seemingly prevented her from being able to ride the Flying Nimbus. While in stressful conditions, she becomes frightened easily and gets angry toward everyone, including her allies. Bulma tends to have a great deal of concern over her hygiene, complaining when circumstances prevent her from taking a bath or replenishing her beauty supplies, even when it is the least of her worries, such as when stranded in the wilderness. At times, her wanton outbursts have landed her and her friends in deeper trouble.
Despite her temper, Bulma frequently displays friendliness and helpfulness towards others. She also tends to seek out excitement and adventure despite her haughtiness and sheltered upbringing. When calm, she tends to approach major situations rationally, often making crucial decisions on her own, and is very persistent in achieving her goals. As she gets more mature, Bulma focuses on becoming a great scientist and helps out by creating and fixing inventions that help the Dragon Team and her family. She is shown to be very witty, usually teasing her friends, a part of being chipper and easygoing. In the Japanese version, she even refers to Goku as "Son-kun," indicating she feels very close to him. Bulma enjoys strawberries,[10] attractive boys and bubble baths. Though she shows a strong dislike towards perverted men, she would not hesitate from taking advantage of them; she has been known to use her sex appeal for self-gain on occasion and would herself become infatuated with men she'd just met based entirely on their looks. This happened even during times when she was dating Yamcha, whom she claimed to intend to marry. Hypocritically, her infatuation would also sometimes cause her to flirt in a very crass manner, as demonstrated with General Blue, having grabbed his arm and licked it while meowing like a cat. She also had zero tolerance towards Yamcha being approached by other women when she was still dating him; she broke up with him when she thought he was cheating on her with Hasky, and again when she saw Maron attempting to flirt with him. She later lost interest in Yamcha due to his lack of commitment and showed greater commitment and maturity herself in her relationship with Vegeta.
Despite their rocky start and quarrelsome natures, Bulma has a unanimous relationship with Vegeta, which further improves after their marriage. Bulma tends to boss Vegeta around and often berates him for his rudeness, goading him into further argument, though they both seem to glean some bizarre fulfillment in their rapport, and she in particular takes pleasure in teasing him. Although they argue often and despite him being a former enemy, Bulma is very devoted to Vegeta and truly loves him, taking great pride in being his wife. After becoming a mother, Bulma is a loving one towards her children, though she doesn't hesitate to lay down the law when Trunks misbehaves.
Bitter breakup and marriage to Vegeta notwithstanding, Bulma and Yamcha still care for each other as longtime friends, enough so that the former openly wept in the latter's arms at the news of Vegeta's death battling Buu. By the time of Super, Bulma clearly still considers him an important part of her life, enough to have him at every one of their frequent parties and happily lets him hold baby Bulla (though Vegeta was not amused when Yamcha made her cry).
One of Bulma's most interesting relationships is her friendship with Goku, having known him for the majority of his life and becoming his first and among closest friends. Initially, she expressed frustration and annoyance towards his lack of hygiene, manners, and knowledge of the world, and sought only to use him as protection whenever they encountered trouble while looking for the Dragon Balls. Soon after however, Bulma came to warm up and care for Goku, their relationship being akin to that of an older sister and younger brother. As they grew up together into adulthood, Bulma showed great concern for him whenever he was in serious danger and would assist him whenever he needed it, despite never-abating irritation at his unrelenting immaturity. Bulma's faith and trust in Goku's abilities have shown to be absolute to the point where she often displays more confidence in him than Vegeta, such as in the battles with Majin Buu as well as Goku Black and Future Zamasu. Bulma's companionship with Goku also extends to his family, being a good friend of Chi-Chi's and showing a great deal of warmth to their sons Gohan and Goten.
Though she isn't a fighter, Bulma can be violent when angered and defend herself if need be. Several characters such as Krillin, Goku, Vegeta, and even Beerus have shown fear at her violent temper. When it seemed Frieza had been destroyed by the Large Spirit Bomb, Krillin freaked when he remembered they had left Bulma alone on Namek and even suggested that an angry Bulma is more terrifying than Frieza. Much later, Goku panicked when he realized he had forgotten it was Bulma's birthday and even suggested she might be more terrifying than Beerus. Also, Vegeta adamantly refused to go training with Goku during Bulma's pregnancy because he feared she would never forgive him, although it's more likely that he simply wanted to be there for her in this unsure time.
On a related note, when facing down an enemy, Bulma is known to be even more vicious. When she comes face-to-face with Frieza for the first time after his revival, confronting him alongside her friends and Jaco, Bulma bravely confronts him, addressing the tyrant outright and rudely, though this was due to believing that Gohan and the others utterly outmatched him, and she quickly began backpedaling once Gohan and Piccolo pointed out that Frieza was far stronger than before. This turned back around however when she insisted Frieza to wait for Goku; when Frieza agreed to wait only for ten seconds, she began raging and violently cussing him out. She was also shown to use rude and politically incorrect terms regarding certain people during her youth (largely in the original Japanese version), best demonstrated in her first meeting with General Blue in the full color manga. After the latter refused her advances in a manner indicating he wasn't into girls, she called him a f--; this was toned down in the VIZ translation to simply have her say "phooey, must be gay."
Bulma was shown to have some irritation towards her friends for constantly relying on the Dragon Balls to revive people when dealing with a threat. This eventually came to a head when Piccolo, Goten and Trunks were sealed inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber when fighting Super Buu, where she called them and Krillin out for insisting, they'd revive Goten and Trunks with the Dragon Balls if they died, disapproving of taking the lives of children so lightly. This is comedically contrasted later when, as she grew older, she became so paranoid about losing her good looks that she collected the Dragon Balls to make herself look only 5 years younger and other cosmetic treatments. It's implied that she'd done this a few times before. Such wishes have caused some of her allies to question her actions such as Goku and Piccolo.
Being a scientist, Bulma has a strong sense of curiosity, willing to delve into forbidden territory just to see if she could accomplish it. This was shown in the anime, when she requested Future Trunks to give her the damaged Time Machine used by Cell so she could study it, which she gave up after being unable to decipher anything due to lack of context.[21] When she gained context via the notes from her future counterpart, she attempted to create an entirely new Time Machine despite various warnings from Jaco, Whis, and Beerus that time manipulation is a grave sin, simply to see if it can be done. When Beerus destroyed her incomplete Time Machine and the notes, she wept over her losses.[22]
Android 18 is a slender, athletic and beautiful woman of above-average height and fair complexion. She has shoulder-length blonde hair, although its specific shade varied between light/golden[5][6][7] or platinum[5][8] that parts over her left temple, which she generally keeps tucked behind her ear. She consistently wears small gold hoop earrings on both ears. Her hair is apparently natural due to her not minding too much when Future Trunks sliced parts of it off during his fight with her (in stark contrast to her future counterpart, who in the English dub threatened him for cutting off portions of her hair and claimed it could not grow back). She has a fairly small chest in the manga, while in the anime, her chest was implied to be large enough that Master Roshi after their plane crashed took the opportunity to plant his face in her bosom and smother his face within, leading to her nearly killing him. In the Androids Saga when she is first activated by Dr. Gero, she wears a blue denim vest and skirt (with the Red Ribbon logo on the back of the vest) with dark blue tights, a brown belt, brown boots, and a black shirt that has white and black striped long sleeves. After her clothes were ruined in her battle against Vegeta, she changes to a western-style outfit consisting of a brown armor vest and skirt with dark navy leggings, a blue-green long sleeve turtleneck shirt, and brown cowboy boots. Later when the androids arrive at Goku's House and throughout the Cell Saga, she wears a black mini vest with a golden triangle pin, a white short sleeved undershirt with a pearl necklace, dark teal jeans with a golden chain, a brown belt, a pair of short black gloves with a gold bracelet on the left one, and black flats with orange socks. When she is married to Krillin and living at Kame House, she wears a pale blue buttoned-up denim vest, white jeans, red hoop earrings along with a red bracelet on her left hand, and black flip-flops. Her blue eyes had a slightly darker coloration than last time. Later, at the World Martial Arts Tournament and throughout the Buu Saga, she wears a black shirt with white and black striped long sleeves, blue jeans, a brown belt, and black flats with orange socks. It is noticeable that this outfit incorporates between her first outfit in the Androids Saga and her third outfit in the Cell Saga as the shirt, belt, and color scheme is taken from her first outfit, while the jeans and flats are taken from her third outfit.
In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, her outfit in the World Tournament Saga has some minor changes. The color of her black shirt has been changed to dark indigo along with the black and white stripe sleeves being recolored to purple. Additionally, the color of her jeans has been changed to pale blue and is slightly shorter while the color of her hoop earrings has been changed from red to silver. Lastly, the color of her socks has been changed to white with the upper portion no longer being rolled up, and her black flats has been changed to dark indigo and no longer contains the tie. She also wears a pearl necklace identical to the one she wore during the Cell arcs, only it was embedded with a thunder pendant, she now possesses blue-green eyes as opposed to her original blue.
In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, her appearance remains largely the same as Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods with the only noticeable changes being she no longer wears a pearl necklace along with the cuffs of her shirt and sleeves being colored white and now wears blue boots. Additionally, the bottom of her shirt no longer appears to be tucked in, now concealing her belt.
Tori 18 silver hair Akira Toriyama's current design of Android 18. At the end of Dragon Ball Z, she cuts her hair shorter which resembles Bulma's bowl-cut hairstyle from the Majin Buu saga and wears fashionable business attire. Her outfit is a red sleeveless shirt, pale yellow business pants, the pale gold hoop earrings she had initially worn during the Androids and Cell arcs, the same gold bracelet on her left wrist which she had worn during the Cell arc, and brown flats. She also wears the pearl necklace that she previously wore during Imperfect Cell Saga and the Cell Games.
Her main look in the Peaceful World Saga was retained for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and wears her tracksuit in the Universe Survival Saga but with minor changes being the change to above ankle length gray with pink stripes jogger pants and a new pair of black sport shoes. Her jacket is magenta, her trousers resembling a sports capri which is light grey with pink linings. She also retains her grey shoes with white soles and fuchsia pink socks.
For the Universe Survival Saga, she wears a pink tracksuit identical to Gohan's during Frieza's invasion of Earth, and grey shoes with white soles.
In Dragon Ball GT, while being the servant of Baby and later cured with the Sacred Water, she wears a red long sleeve turtleneck shirt, black pants, silver hoop earrings, pearl necklace and red flats. Her short hair had finally grown out and was styled into a short bob.
In the Super 17 Saga, she wears a purple business suit jacket with a pink short sleeved undershirt, purple business pants, gold hoop earrings, pearl necklace and red heels. She also retains her hairstyle from the end of Dragon Ball Z. While facing her twin brother for the second time, she was later seen without her business suit jacket and the pearl necklace on her neck as a black strapless bra is shown underneath her pink short sleeved shirt after she angrily rips half of her shirt while taunting her twin brother to kill her.
At the end of Dragon Ball GT, she was seen wearing her pink short sleeved shirt, reddish brown pants, and red flats.
ADVERTISEMENT Personality
Like her brother, Android 18 usually displays a cool and confident demeanor, especially in battle, although her sarcastic and biting humor is the most prominent trait of her personality. This is demonstrated when Goku takes notice of her assembly with the Dragon Team at the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, leading to the retort "Look, he noticed. How cute." (In the Japanese version she says, "Took you a while idiot!"), as well as dryly saying "Spare me" when Krillin reveals to Goku that not only have they married, but also had a child. Shortly after this, she is asked by the World Tournament Announcer if her real name is legitimately "No. 18", to which she responds, "My father was pretty dull" (In the Japanese version, she replies that "It doesn't matter" before tossing the number at the World Tournament Announcer). Although she isn't characterized for this, 18 can be very curious if she is really interested in something, to the point of activating her comrade Android 16 and wondering what present she will give to her husband Krillin during a dispute of a wish with the others using the Dragon Balls. She often expresses herself in her cool and downplayed manner well into her marriage with Krillin, often smiling in a somewhat subdued fashion that conveys her very laid-back personality, in Super, however, she is often seen smiling. However, 18's sense of humor is not always tactful, as she jokingly expressed to Future Trunks that she wanted reimbursement for him killing her alternate universe counterpart, much to Future Trunks' displeasure. This is a rare instance where Android 18's humor was anything but tactful, as per her usual timing. This failure is likely due to Android 18 being unaware how murderous her counterpart was and how much Future Trunks had suffered because of it, as she likely would have been more sensitive had she known the full extent of the destruction and suffering caused by her and her brother's counterparts. She is also shown to be rather prideful, though not to the same extent as her brother had been during the Imperfect Cell Saga.
As an older sister and delinquent, and later as a wife and martial artist, Android 18 is shown to be outwardly commanding, insisting that she and her brother 17, and later she and Krillin, have to make strides to improve the family's financial situation, insisting Krillin to join the Tournament for the prize money, forcing Mr. Satan into a deal about giving her 20 million Zeni to the point of destroying his property and cowing him into multiplying the prize money a hundred-fold, wanting Shenron to grant her wish for a present for Krillin, and initially saying that she would only fight at the Tournament of Power if she gains a large sum of money for it although she later decides to enter because she suspects that the tournament is not really a game. In Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors, Android 18 is hinted to dislike driving solely because of Android 17's insistence on driving around aimlessly without anything better to do. However, 18 still exhibits some of her sensitivity and even protective side, even outside of her family since she showed concern for Vegeta after the latter was knocked out for Jiren during the Tournament of Power. This is in stark contrast to her alternate self from Future Trunks' timeline, where she is a murderous sociopath who cares for no one but herself and her brother though this is mainly due to the fact that Future Dr. Gero had altered Future 17 and 18 to hate humanity, which never occurred in the main timeline. 18 also possesses a vast distaste if not outright hatred of violence against children, to the point that after witnessing Lord Beerus's attacks against Gotenks she lost her temper and proceeded to assault him, despite his decisively superior power. This is likely due to her instincts as a mother and fondness for her friends' children despite being frequently annoyed by the underage Super Saiyans. Unlike her brother, she, like Goku and any other fighter, sometimes has the tendency to let her guard down during battle, allowing her opponents to take advantage, primarily because of her cool and laid-back attitude.
Like her brother, she developed hatred towards Dr. Gero for modifying them against their will, though interestingly, she still uses the name No. 18 instead of her original name Lazuli and in the dub even refers to Dr. Gero as her father, albeit sarcastically (as he was the one who gave her the name No. 18) when asked about her name during the World Tournament. It was this shared hatred and distrust of Gero that convinced 18 that Cell was only imitating 17's voice to trick her. Though she lacks her future counterpart's sociopathic and murderous personality, she does share her counterpart's love of shopping and interest in fashion, as well as taking care in maintaining her appearance and dislikes having her clothing or hair damaged in battle. In the anime, she is shown to dislike Chi-Chi's Chinese dresses while trying her clothes when the Androids come to Goku's House looking for Goku. This is in contrast with her future counterpart who had no problem with the Chinese dresses she tried on while shopping for clothes during The History of Trunks special, showing that she and her counterpart apparently have different tastes in fashion.
By the time of Dragon Ball Super, Android 18 seems to have grown kinder and more compassionate, is often seen smiling compared to Z, where she is shown always folding her arms and looking withdrawn from her allies (like Vegeta and Piccolo, with the former before being accustomed to earthly society), mostly smiling when she sees her daughter and participating in some activities with others, like in the God of Destruction Beerus Saga, she participates in the bingo tournament.
Despite her reserved and abrasive personality, she shown on several occasions that she can be proactive to develop bonds with people who may not be friendly in return, during the lunch break of the 25th World Tournament she sits next to Vegeta who is stuffing his face and does so despite the table having plenty of open seats. The unspoken bond is also heavily implied when Goku and Vegeta returns from the battle against Kid Buu as everyone at the Korin Tower has their attention focused on Goku except whom is smirking knowingly at the saiyan prince whom scowls while looking away.
When she encounters Future Trunks after so many years, she is shown to be more kind and friendly to him than the last time they met, giving him a fist bump and joking about her future self's death. In addition, she also ended up joining the Tournament of Power, not due to money, but because she suspected from both the increasing prize money, Goku and Gohan's increasingly desperate offers to have them join, and Gohan's serious disposition that the results if they lost the tournament would be very severe. However, she is cold towards her brother after reuniting with him for the tournament and tells Krillin not to force it when he tries to break the ice by initiating a friendly conversation with his brother-in-law. She also threatened to kill her brother if he mispronounced Marron's name as "Maron" a second time (However, due to Krillin's panicked reaction around the same time, it's implied this may have been due to it reminding her of Krillin's ex-girlfriend Maron), indicating that she and her brother have grown distant since the Imperfect Cell Saga.
Despite this, both siblings are still capable working well together as a team during the Tournament of Power and even strategize together in the heat of battle to take advantage of their infinite stamina. Android 18 also nevertheless still deeply cared for him, as she was very distraught when he seemingly killed himself to save Goku and Vegeta along with Universe 7. In Xenoverse 2, she states she has been working with Krillin on attack coordination and that it reminds her of the old days fighting alongside her brother, though notes that she and 17 would never actually try and attack deliberately together, as they simply just naturally had good timing due to being twin siblings. However, she notes that it is not the same with Krillin as she needs to focus more on Krillin and use more concentration when coordinating her attacks with his, though she doesn't mind it really.
However, she still at times retains some of her original cool and sarcastic nature, as evidenced by the Peaceful World Saga, where she offhandedly mentioned that "even the likes of Krillin" could beat Wild Tiger after seeing Pan beat him.
Chi-Chi is a light-skinned, slender woman of average height. She has long, straight black hair reaching mid-back with short square bangs, and black eyes.
As a child, Chi-Chi wore a blue bikini, pink gloves and boots, a green cape, and a pink helmet with an axe-like blade on the top of it which she used as a weapon. She maintained this look until the Piccolo Jr. Saga where she switched to a blue
cheongsam with red pants, armbands, shoes, white socks, and a red sash. In this outfit, her hair was styled in a ponytail. Throughout her adulthood, Chi-Chi is mostly seen wearing Chinese dresses and Martial Arts uniforms.
In the first half of Dragon Ball Z, Chi-Chi primarily wore a purple dress with an orange cloth tied at the top and a yellow sash. Her hair was styled in a high bun with strands hanging down on the sides. She kept this hairstyle through the Androids Saga but switched to a purple uniform with pink sleeves and pants. In Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, after Goku and Gohan return home, she wears a light purple martial arts uniform with light blue sleeves, a blue sash, light purple pants, and blue martial arts shoes. In Bojack Unbound, Chi-Chi is seen in a pink cheongsam with a black sash, light blue pants, blue socks, and purple shoes. During the Buu Saga, she wears a yellow uniform with a purple cloth tied at the back, turquoise pants, blue martial arts shoes, and her hair in a bun, accessorized with pink Chinese earrings. At the celebration party for Kid Buu's defeat, Chi-Chi wears her hair in a bun with long strands framing her face, pink lipstick, a pink collared shirt, white pearl earrings and necklace, white pants, and black high heels. Chi-Chi is also noted to have a relatively small chest, with the Japanese version implying this as the reason Goku chose not to use her to bargain with Old Kai to unlock Gohan's potential, instead opting for Bulma.
In The Return of Son Goku and Friends!, before the party, Chi-Chi wears a yellow martial arts uniform with blue sleeves and white cuffs, a red cloth tied around her shoulders, a red sash with white pants, green earrings, and black martial arts shoes. At dinner, she changes into a more casual outfit, featuring a yellow cheongsam, a turquoise cloth around her shoulders, a light purple obi, white pants, and purple earrings. At the party, she dons a pink cheongsam with a small white jacket, white bracelets, and white dress shoes, while keeping her green earrings.
In Battles of Gods, she wears a red cheongsam with a crimson cloth tied around her shoulders, a red sash, crimson pants, light blue bracelets, white socks and red shoes with red lipstick.
In Dragon Ball Super, she wears her hair in the same hairstyle as in the Majin Buu Saga, with a yellow martial arts uniform with a purple sash, white long sleeves, a purple cloth around her shoulders, turquoise pants, blue martial arts shoes, green earrings, and red lipstick.
At the very end of Dragon Ball Z, after the 10-year time skip following Kid Buu's defeat, Chi-Chi appears in a red uniform with a purple cloth tied at the back, purple pants, and her hair in a ponytail before the tournament. During and after the tournament, she switches to a dark pink cheongsam with a black sash, dark yellow pants, white bracelets, and earrings.
In Dragon Ball GT, Chi-Chi's hair is shorter and styled differently. Her attire is a pink uniform with light green sleeves, a turquoise sash, violet pants, black shoes and gold Chinese earrings. As a child, Chi-Chi was very shy and sweet. She often thought about who she would marry. Despite being the daughter of the Ox-King, known for his fearsome reputation, Chi-Chi is portrayed as his complete opposite, as she was shown to be of pure heart by being able to ride the Flying Nimbus. In battle, she is often frightened and defeats her opponents while crying. When she became an adult, especially after marrying Goku and having her son Gohan. She is often depicted as nagging, temperamental, overprotective, tough and well-meaning, with a feisty and tomboyish personality, similar to the stereotypical overbearing
shōnen mother. Although Chi-Chi is often seen yelling at Goku over fighting, and Gohan over his schoolwork, it cannot be disputed that she loves Goku and her family very much. This is shown at the end of the Buu Saga, when she is brought to tears and hugs Goku over the thought of finally getting to live as a family of four. She worries about Goku the most when he develops a Heart Virus, caring for him and crying by his bedside. When she found out that Goku is all better, she jumps out of Kame House and runs to Goku and gives him a hug, to which Goku responds by swinging her around. She usually cries when she finds out Goku is injured or dead, or when he's home safe, clearly showing love for her husband. Even though Chi-Chi disapproved of Goku preferring Gohan learning to fight than being socialized, she nevertheless showed herself to be easily angered when her husband and her son got disrespected due to this, as in the English dub she kicked out Mr. Shu without hesitation for insulting Goku despite him being Gohan's private tutor. In the Japanese version, she instead kicks him out due to his extremely abusive actions towards Gohan, such as openly whipping him in front of her and openly declaring that Gohan was a monkey with no potential. Although Chi-Chi is insistent to Goku that Gohan's studies are more important than anything in the world, she, along with the rest of the characters around them, goes into shock when Goku actually agrees with her in "Memories of Gohan". She even goes as far as checking his temperature to make sure he was feeling well. Similarly, in Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge, she worries about Goku when he insists Gohan finish his homework only to learn that Goku wanted Gohan to finish it so they could go camping. This suggests that despite her often nagging him to think or do something besides fighting with their son, she actually prefers her husband the way he is.
She is notable by emphasizing on Gohan's "academic achievement" rather than his fighting ability, as she was hesitant for Gohan to repeat Goku's habits of getting into danger, and she also did not want Gohan to grow up without proper education as Goku had. Therefore, she often becomes frustrated when Goku decides to take Gohan to fights, so much that often Chi-Chi is willing to go to battle herself to defend her son, though she's always restrained by some of the other characters to keep her from getting herself killed; nonetheless, it is often implied that Chi-Chi is proud of Gohan whenever he does fight but refuses to admit it save for when he participated in the World Martial Arts Tournament and Intergalactic World Tournament in Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound. In some cases, her insistence that Gohan study can also impact her common sense, as evidenced by her trying to prevent Gohan from aiding Goku when the latter was being attacked by a pair of assassins in order for him to finish his studies, causing Gohan to sternly ask her which between his studies or Goku's life mattered more, shocking her enough to let him go fight them in Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!. This was also hinted at in the manga for the Namek Saga, where she was not too concerned about Gohan fighting for his life on Namek outside of whether he's studying (in contrast to the anime adaptation where she panics at Gohan being alone on Namek and attempts to get Dr. Brief to create a spacecraft for her to go there and rescue her son). However, by the Androids Saga, Chi-Chi apparently grows more accepting of Gohan fighting, as she allows him to train because of the androids and attend the Cell Games, even though she did not want him to participate. Henceforth, she taught Goten martial arts apparently out of a desire to prevent him from being incapable of defending himself whenever needed,[19] just like her father did with her and showed extreme strictness on it equaling how she was with Gohan about his education. Chi-Chi also allowed Gohan (and Goten) to participate in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, although part of the reason she allowed this was because she was excited to see Goku again for the first time in seven years and because winning the tournament or even being the runner-up would allow Gohan to obtain enough money to pay for his college tuitions.
Chi-Chi has a somewhat negative opinion of Super Saiyans as she seems to associate the transformation with delinquency due to its hair color. This is shown when she first saw Gohan in his Super Saiyan Full Power form shortly before the Cell Games and mistakenly assumed that Gohan and Goku had dyed their hair (which is considered a sign of delinquency in Japanese culture), unaware that it was a result of the transformation. Though she comes to understand that it's a Saiyan transformation, she retains her initial negative opinion of the Super Saiyan form as she reacted negatively when Goten transformed while they were sparring.
She is shown to have developed a friendship with Bulma, especially after Bulma's marriage to Vegeta, as Bulma understands the struggle of both being married to a Saiyan and raising half-Saiyan children. However, despite their friendship, the two have been known to argue especially when their children compete in tournaments as shown in Bojack Unbound and the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament.
Though she loves Goku, she is often frustrated by his tendency to focus most of his time on martial arts training instead of contributing to their family financially. In fact, it is implied that for most of her marriage, Chi-Chi relied on her father's wealth to support her and Goku. Her frustration over their financial situation is understandable given that Goku is naively ignorant when it comes to money. Considering she grew up with her father's wealth, she may be frustrated by the fact that her husband is unable to provide the same for her and their children and implied to be somewhat envious of Bulma's wealth and quickly changed her opinion of Videl when she learned Videl lived in a mansion with 50 rooms, to the point she keenly asks Gohan if he was going to marry her.
In Dragon Ball Super, she forces Goku to work on their family's radish farm as a way for them to earn money after telling him that her father became poor due to a fire on Fire Mountain burying his treasure. However, after Mr. Satan gives Goku the 100 million Zeni peace prize, she allows Goku to go train on King Kai's Planet without a second thought. However she later forbids him from going to King Kai's to train, as their family had spent and saved the 100 million Zeni, and are once again broke (which turns out to be a lie by Chi-Chi in order to get him, to no avail, to work instead of train all the time), forcing him to go back to farming to support them, which shows she will let Goku train as long as their family is well off financially. In addition to their family's radish farm, in the Dr. Slump crossover episode Chi-Chi forces Goku to take a job as a security guard at the World Invention Conference after Mr. Satan had offered him the job.
With the birth of her granddaughter Pan, Chi-Chi becomes adamant that Pan is raised as a gentle girly-girl with a normal life so that she will not end up as another "battle-loving idiot". She also wants Goku to be a good grandfather and not just fight all the time; going as far as furiously hunting him down to forbid him from leaving with Whis to train under him, attempting to scare him into submitting to her. Surprisingly, however, she does not get mad after Goku blatantly disobeys her and leaves with Whis to go train, apparently accepting that Goku means well.
