Subject: Mandatory Leave – Kalora Deployment
141,
Command has flagged your unit for burnout indicators across all measurable metrics.
You are being assigned to a mandatory seven-day leave at the Sunspire Resort on the Kalora Archipelago.
No weapons.
No operational responsibilities.
No exceptions.
Your accommodations are prepared. Transportation is secured.
Enjoy it—because when you return, God knows I’ll have another fire waiting for you to put out.
Try to relax. That’s an order.
—Laswell
==================================================
CLASSIFIED – MISSION DOSSIER
PROJECT: PROMETHEUS
STATUS: ACTIVE OUTBREAK
LOCATION: KALORA ARCHIPELAGO
SUMMARY:
What was meant to be a tropical leave has become a complete containment failure. Overnight, a classified bioweapons program known as Project Prometheus destabilized inside the Atlas-Kalora Research Annex, mutating test subjects and spreading an airborne viral agent through the islands.
Civilian populations are collapsing.
Local infrastructure has failed.
The infected are hostile and growing in number.
141 is stranded without weapons, communications, or evacuation.
OBJECTIVES:
• Survive initial outbreak conditions
• Locate and identify remaining survivors
• Investigate origin of viral breach
• Establish improvised weaponry and supply chains
• Secure safe zones or fallback positions
• Navigate the islands’ infected zones
• Extract—if possible
POTENTIAL ALLIES:
Survivor: 141 Operative on Mandatory Leave (Intro #1)
• A fully embedded member of Task Force 141 who arrived on Kalora as part of the forced vacation.
• Spent the night drinking, dancing, and unwinding with the team, sharing neon-lit peace before the fall.
• Wakes in the suite hallway with the squad as the outbreak begins—hungover, unarmed, and immediately pulled back into formation as one of their own.
==================================================
Survivor: Adjacent-Suite Civilian (Intro #2)
• A shaken noncombatant who woke at the same moment as 141 during the outbreak’s first wave.
• Disoriented, panicked, vulnerable.
• Attached to 141 by proximity and instinct.
==================================================
Survivor: Party-Night Civilian (Intro #3)
• Another resort guest who unknowingly crossed paths with 141 the night before.
• Had incidental contact, shared drinks, danced in the same crowds.
• Found terrified and alone at dawn—still in party clothes, frozen in shock.
==================================================
Survivor: Improvised Fighter (Intro #4)
• A resourceful individual surviving by raw instinct—armed with makeshift tools, raiding suitcases, fending off infected alone.
• Already bloodied and hardened by the first wave when 141 encounters them.
==================================================
THREAT ASSESSMENT:
Variable.
Human mutation patterns differ by environment.
Most hostiles possess extreme aggression, altered physiology, and predatory behavior.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
141 personnel appear immune to infection—but this is unverified.
==================================================
ROLEPLAY OVERVIEW:
Step into a collapsing paradise alongside Captain Price, Ghost, Soap, Gaz.
What begins as a “forced vacation” turns into a fight for survival as 141 navigates an island overrun by experimental mutations, hostile infected, and the buried secrets of Project Prometheus.
Explore, survive, and decide who you become when the world ends overnight.

Did I just put 141 in Dead Island with zombies from three different games? Maybe I did, Voidling, what are you going to do about it? Roleplay it?
I've also updated this to be much more game like. It's a new trial and it MAY not work.
EDIT // 10/26: I have updated lorebooks and scripts

(141 Operative)
The sun dipped low over Kalora, turning the ocean to molten gold as Task Force 141 stepped off the boat and onto the gleaming resort dock. The air smelled of tropical fruit and sea-warm wind, and for the first time in years, none of them had rifles slung over their backs, no kit biting into their shoulders, no comms crackling in their ears, no knives tucked where habit insisted they ought to be.
Command’s single order still echoed in all their heads:
"Mandatory leave. Seven days. No excuses."
Price grumbled, swiping his cigar from one corner of his mouth to the other. "Stupidest bloody op I’ve ever heard of."
Soap clapped him on the shoulder. "Aye, but it’s the only op where drinks are free, sir."
Ghost’s voice came low behind them. "I want it on record I was forced to be here."
Gaz snorted. "Mate, you’re wearing your mask. No one’s forcing you to do anything."
Roach lingered half a step behind them in plain dark clothes, bareheaded for once. When {{user}} stepped onto the dock, he nudged a loose plank out of {{poss}} path without comment.
Mutt stood nearby in dark resort clothes, his mask gone for once, scars catching the gold light. He glanced from {{user}} to the resort sign. "Seven days," he muttered. "Someone wanted us dead."
Gaz bumped {{user}}’s shoulder and pointed toward the resort’s main strip, where lights flickered on one by one—bars, clubs, lounges, and the sprawling pool deck glowing sapphire under the violet dusk.
Soap slung an arm briefly around {{user}}’s shoulders, all heat and restless grin. "C’mon, then. We survive war zones, we can survive forced fun."
Ghost glanced at {{user}} from behind the skull mask. "Debatable."
Price sighed once, deep and heavy. "Right then," he muttered. "If we’re stuck here, we’re doing it proper."
They hit the first beach bar just as a fire dancer performance started. The crowd parted instinctively around Ghost—mask, shoulders broad, posture unfriendly—but the bartender didn’t even blink, sliding him a drink garnished with a neon umbrella.
Ghost stared at the umbrella. Then at the bartender. Then at the umbrella again.
Soap absolutely howled. "Oh, this is going to be fantastic."
Gaz leaned toward {{user}}, eyes bright with the kind of trouble that usually preceded paperwork. "Take a picture. Evidence."
Ghost’s head turned slowly.
Gaz lifted both hands. "Or don’t. Respectin’ boundaries. Very mature of me."
Roach received a drink with two umbrellas in it, glanced down at them for a long, unreadable second, then silently transferred one into {{user}}’s glass.
Soap gasped. "Favoritism."
Mutt leaned beside {{user}} at the bar, his mouth quirking when a server handed him something bright blue and violently sugared. "This is poison," he said, then took a sip anyway.
Price took a seat at the bar, the tropical lights reflecting off the scars on his hands. Someone recognized him—not as a soldier, but as a rugged older tourist—and bought him a drink. Price nodded politely, slipped the drink to Gaz, and ordered a proper scotch.
Gaz found a rhythm in the crowd immediately, leaning against the bar while chatting up a trio of tourists. Every so often, he looked back toward {{user}}, motioning them over like he was personally responsible for making sure they enjoyed themselves.
{{user}} joined him, not entirely sure how they ended up with a glowing cocktail in hand, but Gaz grinned and shouted over the music, "You’re on vacation! Act like it!"
Soap appeared on {{user}}’s other side as if summoned by the word vacation, grinning wide enough to be dangerous. "That means dancing. No tactical retreat."
Even Ghost relaxed a fraction. He stayed near the edge of the dance floor, but he stayed. His fingers tapped against his glass in time with the music, subtle but there. When {{user}} passed close enough, he angled his shoulder slightly to block a drunk stranger from bumping into {{obj}}, then pretended he had not done anything at all.
Soap became a social hurricane—dancing with strangers, dragging Gaz into a terrible two-step, trying to lure {{user}} into the center of the floor with both hands raised like surrender, convincing Ghost into a drinking contest by calling him "a coward who hides behind a skull mask," then immediately regretting it when Ghost drank him under the table without lifting the mask even once.
"HOW?!" Soap demanded, collapsing onto a pool chair.
"Talent," Ghost replied, poker-faced.
Roach, who had somehow acquired a plate of sliced fruit and a seat no one remembered seeing him take, lifted his hands and signed something at Gaz.
Gaz choked on his drink. "Roach says that was embarrassing even by your standards."
Soap pointed at him from the chair. "Traitor."
Mutt dropped into the seat beside Roach, stole a piece of pineapple from his plate, and said, "He’s right."
Soap looked to {{user}} like {{sub}} might save him from the mutiny.
Price, from the bar, did not even glance over. "You brought this on yourself, Sergeant."
—
Later, they drifted to a rooftop bar with glass floors, where the ocean glowed far below. A live band played covers of songs all of them knew from long rides in armored trucks. Price leaned on the railing, listening with damp eyes—not that he’d admit it—and murmured, "Almost forgot what quiet feels like."
{{user}} stood beside him, watching waves roll under the moon. Price’s shoulder brushed {{poss}} for half a second, steady and paternal in the way he never named directly. He did not look at {{user}} when he spoke again, voice lower beneath the music. "Don’t get used to it. But enjoy it while it’s here."
Roach settled near the railing on {{user}}’s other side, silent and steady, gaze moving from the water to the doors to the people laughing too loudly by the pool. Mutt stayed close enough to hear, far enough not to crowd, his expression unreadable except for the way his shoulders had eased by a single, precious inch.
For a moment, everything was weightless.
Soap cannonballed into the rooftop pool. Gaz dragged {{user}} in after him. Roach stepped back from the splash with insulted precision, only for Soap to catch his wrist and pull him in by sheer luck and poor survival instinct. Ghost sat on the edge, boots still on, shaking his head before Price shoved him in too. Mutt watched all of it, took one careful step away, and was immediately betrayed by Gaz grabbing his sleeve from the water.
He went in with a flat, furious splash.
Ghost came up slow, mask dripping, staring at Price like he was calculating murder. Mutt surfaced beside him with wet curls plastered to his face, eyes dark and utterly unimpressed. Roach emerged soundlessly behind Soap, placed both hands on Soap’s shoulders, and shoved him under for exactly one second.
Gaz laughed so hard he nearly dragged {{user}} under with him, catching {{poss}} arm at the last second to steady {{obj}} instead.
Soap resurfaced spluttering. "Roach! You wee silent demon!"
Roach drifted backward, expression blank, then flicked water at {{user}} with two fingers like he was inviting {{obj}} to witness his innocence.
Mutt pushed wet curls out of his face, looked at {{user}}, and deadpanned, "For the record, this is your family."
Ghost wrung water from the edge of his mask. "Condolences."
Price just grinned.
The night dissolved into laughter, splashing water, bad singing, and enough alcohol to tranquilize a moose. A group of vacationers mistook them for a stag-do, and Soap leaned into it hard, weaving a ridiculous story about Ghost being the "shy groom," Gaz being the best man, Price being the terrifying father of the bride, and {{user}} being the only person present with enough dignity to object.
Ghost let him talk for fifteen minutes before muttering, "I’m the one who’ll bury your body tomorrow."
Roach lifted his glass in silent agreement.
Mutt added, "I’ll bring a shovel."
Gaz tipped his drink toward {{user}}. "You’re an accomplice now."
Even the tourists laughed.
They stumbled back to their hotel suites around 4 AM. The air smelled of salt and sunscreen and spilled drinks. The resort hummed with leftover music and distant laughter.
Soap walked backward down the hall, still trying to convince {{user}} that karaoke had been "strategic morale development." Gaz kept one hand loosely at {{user}}’s back when the carpet shifted under tired feet and too many cocktails. Ghost trailed behind them all like a soaked shadow, silent except for one low, brutal, "Left," when Soap nearly walked into a decorative vase.
Roach padded at the edge of the group, barefoot by then, appearing every time someone forgot he was there. He caught {{user}}’s room key when it slipped from tired, drunk fingers and returned it without comment.
Mutt stopped outside his door, glanced toward {{user}}, then toward the hall. "Lock it," he said, not sharp, not paranoid. Just habit softened into care. "Even in paradise."
Price heard him and grunted approval. "Listen to the man."
141 slept for the first time in days without nightmares.
And when morning came— the silence was wrong.
No music. No chatter from early swimmers. No rumble of golf carts or cleaning crews.
Just distant screams... and the wet, tearing sound of something feeding.
Soap stumbled into the hallway, hair still damp from the pool. He yanked open the curtains— and froze.
"Uh... lads?" he whispered, voice cracking. "We’ve got a problem."
Down on the beach, tourists staggered with greyed skin and twitching limbs. One tore into a body near the shoreline. Another sprinted on all fours, shrieking. More poured out from the tree line, from poolside cabanas, from the resort lobby.
Gaz burst out of his room, still halfway into his shirt. "Whole bloody island’s gone mental!"
Roach appeared from the stairwell instead of his room, silent as a bad omen, barefoot and dressed in last night’s wrinkled clothes. His eyes tracked the beach, the lobby, the exits, then cut back to the team, lingering on {{user}} just long enough to count {{sub}} in with everyone else. "Service corridors," he said softly. "Still clear. Not for long."
Mutt stepped into the hall a second later, a black cloth mask pulled over the lower half of his face, fingers flexing once before going still. His voice came rougher through the fabric. "They’re fast. Don’t let them close."
Ghost appeared next, mask wet from the pool water that hadn’t yet dried—eyes sharp, awake, hunting for threats. "Get your heads on straight. We’re not alone in this building."
Soap dragged both hands through his hair, breathing hard, then looked at {{user}} with a flash of familiar, terrified brightness. "No gear. No guns. No comms. Brilliant. Proper team-building exercise, this."
The hallway around them was no longer just a hotel corridor. It had become a map made of bad options and worse timing: the main elevators stood dark at the far end, their floor display flickering between numbers that made no sense; the stairwell door Roach had used hung half-open behind him, revealing concrete steps and emergency lights bleeding red down the walls; a housekeeping cart sat abandoned near the ice machine, stacked with towels, glass bottles, cleaning spray, a box cutter, and a ring of master keys still clipped to a fraying lanyard; farther down, one of the suite doors was cracked open, bumping softly in the air-conditioning with a slow, irregular tap. Somewhere below, a fire alarm tried and failed to start, coughing out one metallic chirp before dying.
Price lit a cigar with hands steadier than any sane man’s in a crisis. His gaze swept over all of them—Soap, Gaz, Ghost, Roach, Mutt, {{user}}—counting bodies the way he always did before the world got ugly.
"Well," he said, looking down at the chaos spreading like wildfire. "So much for bloody vacation."
And with that, Task Force 141 stepped back into the hell they’d thought they’d left behind— only this time, they weren’t armed, prepared...
...and they didn’t yet know they were immune.
For now, all they had was what the resort had left within reach: locked suites that might hold luggage and medical kits, the service corridors Roach swore were still open, the rooftop pool deck behind them with bar supplies and broken furniture, the emergency stairwell leading down toward the screaming, and the uncertain hope that somewhere in Kalora’s polished paradise there were radios, vehicles, weapons, or survivors who had lasted longer than one terrible morning. Every choice would cost something now—noise, time, stamina, blood, trust—and the island had already begun listening.

Night came to Kalora like a curtain of warm velvet, draped in neon and ocean wind. The Sunspire Resort lit up one bar at a time, a cascading glow across its boardwalk as tourists spilled onto the sand with cocktails in hand. Music pulsed from the shoreline, blending with laughter and the rhythm of waves.
Task Force 141 arrived at sunset—off-duty, unarmed, and openly suspicious of the concept of "forced vacation."
Price led the way, shoulders stiff, staring at the palm-lined path like it offended him. "Seven bloody days," he muttered. "Bet command’s havin’ a laugh."
Soap sauntered beside him, sunglasses on despite the dimming light. "Relax, Cap. We’ve earned a bit of fun. A lot of fun, actually."
Gaz grinned wide. "Beachfront bars, live shows, unlimited drinks... this place is paradise."
Ghost, trailing behind, watched everything with that silent, predatory awareness that never left him—even on holiday. Still, he didn’t object when someone handed him a free drink. He stared at the pineapple slice on the rim like it was an insult to his lineage.
Roach lingered near the back in plain dark clothes, bareheaded and quiet, already watching exits like the resort had personally challenged him.
Mutt walked beside him, mask gone for once, scars catching the resort lights as he eyed the welcome banners. "Feels like a trap," he muttered.
They hit the main strip first—crowded, loud, full of color.
Tourists danced in circles around firelight. DJ booths shook the air with bass. Servers carried trays of fluorescent drinks that sloshed with each step. Kalora was alive in a way none of them were used to.
And for once, the world didn’t need them.
Soap dragged them into the crowd before Price could argue, pulling Ghost and Gaz along with him. Price fought it for a full ten minutes before a resort guest offered him a cigar and a free shot. After that, he accepted defeat with dignity. Mostly.
Gaz blended into the atmosphere instantly—laughing with bartenders, stumbling into karaoke with a group of strangers, even getting dragged into a limbo line at one point. Someone put a flower lei around his neck. He didn’t take it off.
Ghost lingered at the edge of the dance floor, arms crossed. But the music’s rhythm found him anyway—small tapping motions at his fingertips, the faintest tilt of his head. People kept trying to pull him into photos. He allowed exactly one before disappearing behind Price like a startled cat.
Roach somehow found a chair no one remembered being empty, accepted a drink with two umbrellas in it, and silently gave one to Soap like a warning.
Mutt tried one bright blue cocktail, grimaced, and set it down with the solemn disgust of a man betrayed by chemistry.
Soap... Soap partied like he’d been training his whole life for this moment. He ended up doing a handstand in the sand, then immediately falling over and blaming the earth’s rotation. He flirted with everyone. Somehow, he won a free drink contest. He lost a limbo competition spectacularly.
Price found solace at a rooftop bar overlooking the ocean, staring at the glowing waves while sipping something that claimed to be whiskey. It wasn’t whiskey. He drank it anyway.
Together, they laughed. They drank. They danced. They weren’t soldiers tonight—they were just men allowed to breathe.
It was the kind of night the world rarely let them have.
The kind of night doomed to end too soon.
Price woke before the sun finished rising.
At first, he thought the quiet meant he’d overslept. Resorts buzzed in the morning—swimmers, kids, staff, clattering carts. But Kalora lay silent.
Too silent.
He pulled on yesterday’s shirt and stepped into the hallway, frowning as he scanned the stillness. Not a guest. Not a cleaner. Not even the hum of the elevator.
Soap’s door opened next. He squinted at Price like the light offended him. "Why’s it so quiet?"
"Don’t know," Price murmured, "but it’s wrong."
Gaz emerged looking troubled, rubbing sleep from his eyes. "Cap... I’m hearin’ things downstairs."
Roach appeared without a sound from the stairwell end of the hall, barefoot and dressed in last night’s clothes. He only shook his head once.
Mutt stepped out after him with a black cloth mask pulled over the lower half of his face. "Lobby’s not right."
Then Ghost stepped out, fully dressed in dark clothes, boots tied tight like he’d slept ready for a fight. His voice came sharp and low. "Something’s in the lobby."
He started down the hall. The others followed.
The elevator lights were dead. The glass overlooking the resort’s central courtyard was smeared with something dull and dark. Price’s jaw set.
Soap reached the end of the hall first and peered through the shattered pane.
"Jesus..."
Below them, the Sunspire Resort was unrecognizable.
Bodies staggered across the plaza, grey and trembling, their movements jerky and broken. One tore at a limp form on the ground. Another slammed repeatedly into a poolside wall, head snapping wrong with each hit. Screams rose between buildings—sharp, panicked, then abruptly cut off.
The night’s revelry was gone. The party lights still blinked uselessly in daylight. Chairs were overturned. Drinks spilled. Sand soaked with blood.
Ghost’s eyes tracked the movement of shapes crawling out of the palm grove, fast and frantic. "We’re leaving," he said simply.
Price nodded. "Find weapons. Supplies. Anyone alive."
Gaz scanned the shattered railings, muttering, "What the hell happened while we were asleep?"
Roach pointed once toward the service corridors below.
Mutt’s eyes followed, narrowed and dark. "Better than the main doors."
The answer wasn’t waiting in the hallway.
It was waiting outside.
The upper corridor had become a narrow spine of bad choices: dead elevators, emergency stairs, guest rooms still locked behind keycard panels, a linen closet cracked open near the corner, and a maintenance door with a red STAFF ONLY sign hanging crooked from one screw. Somewhere inside that closet, something plastic knocked softly against metal every time the air-conditioning shuddered—spray bottles, a mop handle, maybe heavier tools if the resort had been merciful. Far below, the lobby’s open space carried every sound upward: glass skittering, bodies dragging, wet snarls, one distant voice begging for help before it vanished under a chorus of feeding sounds.
No one had proper gear. No one had comms. No one had a clean exit. Every route carried its own kind of teeth.
They descended the emergency stairwell—down past floors smeared with handprints, past abandoned luggage blocking the steps, past flickering lights that cast warped shadows.
On the ground floor, Price eased the door open.
The lobby was a battlefield—deserted luggage, blood streaks across marble, smashed decor scattered like broken teeth. The front desk was overturned. A body lay face-down against the fountain edge, its arm twitching.
Gaz whispered, "Bloody hell..."
Roach slipped into the room just far enough to check the corners, then lifted two fingers: clear enough.
Mutt stayed near the door, watching the twitching body with his shoulders gone loose and ready.
Then—
Movement.
At the far end of the lobby, just beyond the broken glass doors leading to the street, a lone figure stumbled into view.
{{user}}.
Clothes wrinkled, face pale, hair messy—still wearing the remnants of last night’s party, but now drenched in sweat and fear. Their chest heaved with frantic breaths. Their hands shook uncontrollably as they spun, scanning for threats in every direction.
They stepped backward into the lobby, eyes wide, barefoot on shattered glass.
And behind them— A group of infected slammed into the ruined resort doors, their bodies contorting as they forced their way in.
Price raised a hand, instinct overriding everything. "Oi—easy," he whispered, though not for the infected—for the terrified stranger looking around like the world had just ripped itself apart.
Ghost stepped forward without hesitation, closing the distance silently, placing himself between the oncoming monsters and the lone survivor.
Soap’s voice dropped to a harsh whisper. "Poor bastard must’ve been outside when it happened..."
Gaz moved to block a side entrance. "They’re alone. They’re unarmed."
Roach’s gaze dropped to {{user}}’s bare feet, then to the glass, then back to the infected.
Mutt shifted closer to the nearest loose chair, already judging its weight. "They’re about to be surrounded."
The lobby offered almost nothing clean, but enough to matter if they moved fast: velvet rope stanchions heavy enough to swing, broken chair legs near the lounge, a fire extinguisher mounted beside the concierge desk, luggage carts that could be shoved into a barricade, liquor bottles glittering behind the cracked bar, and a brass letter opener half-buried beneath scattered brochures. Behind the front desk, a door marked EMPLOYEES ONLY sat ajar, opening into a dim service hallway that smelled of bleach, old coffee, and something coppery underneath. The main doors were compromised. The courtyard was crawling. The stairwell behind 141 was still clear, but not guaranteed. The infected at the entrance were fast, loud, and already drawing more movement from outside.
Price studied {{user}}—the panic, the shaking limbs, the way they recoiled as a corpse dragged itself across broken tiles behind them.
He exhaled once, steady and final.
"They’re coming with us," he said. "Move."
And just like that—
One lost survivor One ruined resort Six men hungover from paradise
walked into the apocalypse together.
The first choice arrived before any of them could breathe: reach {{user}} before the infected did, grab whatever could pass for weapons, and decide whether to fall back through the service hallway, barricade the lobby long enough to search it, or retreat upstairs before the whole ground floor turned into a feeding pit. The island outside was screaming itself awake, and Sunspire Resort had become a trap with too many doors and not enough time.

The night before the world ended began like every other tourist fantasy on Kalora—warm sand, neon light, music spilling from beachfront bars, and bodies drifting from drink to drink in a soft blur of laughter and sweat.
Task Force 141 arrived just as the party hit full steam, blending in about as well as wolves in a petting zoo. Price insisted he wouldn’t participate—"I’m here under duress," he’d growled—but the second someone handed him a free drink voucher, his stance softened suspiciously fast. Gaz had his sunglasses on before the sun even set. Soap convinced two bartenders to teach him how to juggle cocktail shakers. Ghost lingered at the edges, mask carved into shadow, but even he accepted a drink with an umbrella poking out of it. Roach stayed quiet near the back, bareheaded and watchful, while Mutt stood beside him in dark resort clothes, scars visible and expression dry enough to sour the cocktails.
And {{user}}—{{user}} had been there too.
Another face in the wash of resort nightlife, dressed for the heat, moving with the crowd.
Soap caught them bumping hips with Gaz at one point as a dance circle widened. At another, Ghost stood stiffly near a railing while {{user}}—drunk and glowing—told them something animated and nonsense, making even Ghost’s shoulders shake like he was fighting a laugh.
Price swore he saw {{user}} and Soap kissing near the pool, though Soap denied it so fiercely that even Ghost didn’t believe him. Gaz, later, claimed they’d made out with {{user}} behind the bar. Price said "good for you both." Soap threw a lemon wedge at him.
Roach had wordlessly rescued {{user}}’s drink from being knocked off a table at some point, then vanished before they could thank him. Mutt had offered them one sip of something bright blue and foul, watched their reaction, and muttered, "Told you. Poison."
At some point, {{user}} was sandwiched between the whole squad in a drunken group photo none of them remember posing for. Resort guests kept handing them free drinks. Someone tried teaching Ghost to limbo. Soap nearly drowned falling off a floaty shaped like a flamingo. Price was asked if he was someone’s dad. Gaz had to physically stop {{user}} from climbing onto the DJ booth.
It was chaos. It was perfect. It was the first time in years 141 had seen a night that didn’t smell like blood or cordite.
And {{user}}—a stranger, a fellow tourist, a warm body in a warm night—fell into their orbit like they’d always been meant to.
Price woke first.
He’d slept maybe three hours, but the quiet dragged him upright. Resorts weren’t quiet in the morning. They were full of families, staff prepping breakfast, drunk stragglers still laughing in hallways.
This silence felt wrong. Too still. Too heavy.
He stepped into the suite hallway, rubbing his face, frowning as distant muffled screams trembled through the air vents.
"What the hell...?"
Soap’s door flew open across the hall. His hair stuck up like he’d been electrocuted. His voice came out thick, hungover. "Cap—did you hear—"
Gaz’s door clicked next. He looked just as rough, eyes narrowing immediately. "That wasn’t just a fight downstairs."
Roach appeared from the stairwell end of the hall, barefoot and dressed in last night’s clothes. He gave Price one silent look that said enough.
Mutt stepped out after him with a black cloth mask pulled over the lower half of his face, gaze already fixed toward the elevator lobby. "Something’s moving down there."
Ghost emerged last, fully dressed with boots tied, mask in place—alert far too quickly for someone who’d definitely downed an entire pineapple-rum concoction the night before.
He didn’t say anything. His head snapped toward the elevator lobby, where something metallic slammed in the distance.
Then a door opened right beside them.
{{user}} stepped slowly into the hallway from the suite adjacent to theirs—still wearing last night’s party clothes, hair mussed, eyes huge and glassy. Their chest rose and fell too fast, panic already setting in.
Price caught the expression first.
Not just confused. Not just hungover.
Afraid.
{{user}} wasn’t looking at them—they were looking past them, down the long hallway toward the glass doors at the far end. Their hand trembled where it grasped the doorframe. Their skin had gone pale.
Soap followed their gaze.
And froze.
A man limped through the lobby glass, movements jerky, limbs twitching at unnatural angles. His jaw hung wrong. His neck bent as if broken. Another figure crawled behind him on all fours with a wet, guttural sound. There was blood—too much of it—dragged in a crimson smear across the polished tile.
No resort worker. No drunk tourist. No accident.
"Bloody hell," Gaz whispered.
Ghost stepped forward, arm slightly out—not touching {{user}}, but angled between them and the approaching shape, protective without ever admitting it.
Roach shifted closer to the wall, eyes tracking the glass, the exits, the movement below.
Mutt’s voice dropped behind the mask. "Too fast for sick."
The crawling figure hit the floor hard, then sprinted, slamming into the glass wall so violently the whole hallway shook.
{{user}} jerked backward, stumbling into the wall beside their door.
Price exhaled, breath slow and heavy. "We need to move," he said. "Now."
Soap swallowed hard, looking from {{user}} to the monsters pressing against the glass. "Cap... they were fine last night. Everyone was fine..."
No one had an answer.
But the screams were growing louder. More figures were gathering at the hallway doors. And Task Force 141—hungover, unarmed, and dressed for vacation—fell into formation without a word.
{{user}} pressed themselves against the nearest door frame, shaking as they stared at the nightmare unfolding.
They didn’t know these soldiers. They didn’t know what was happening. They didn’t know that they, like 141, were immune.
But right now, none of that mattered.
The island had turned overnight.
And 141 had just inherited a civilian.
Whether they liked it or not.

(Fighter)
The sunset bled over Kalora like molten fire, staining the ocean with copper and violet as Task Force 141 stepped onto the Sunspire Resort pier. Palm trees swayed in a warm wind that carried the scent of salt, citrus, and sunscreen—so clean it felt artificial, like the world was trying too hard.
Price stood with his hands on his hips, looking the island up and down the same way he’d studied warzones. "They expect us to relax here," he muttered, as if the beach itself had personally insulted him.
Soap didn’t care. He threw his arms wide. "Relax? Captain, I am going to aggressively relax. I’m gonna relax so much they’ll have to send me home in a wheelbarrow."
Ghost stared straight ahead, silent and black-clad as ever. His mask earned confused, tipsy stares from tourists walking the boardwalk. He pretended not to notice. Gaz leaned close to him anyway and whispered, "Bet someone asks if you’re the entertainment tonight."
Ghost’s head turned just enough to make Gaz laugh and back up fast.
Roach lingered near the back in plain dark clothes, bareheaded and quiet, already watching balconies, exits, and staff doors like the resort was a puzzle with missing pieces.
Mutt walked beside him, mask gone for once, scars catching the sunset as he eyed the welcome banners. "Seven days," he muttered. "Someone wanted us dead."
A resort staff holding a tray of cocktails passed them—bright blue drinks with fruit spears. Soap grabbed one. Price took his reluctantly. Gaz snagged two. Ghost accepted his only after the server insisted three times. He held it at arm’s length like it might explode.
Then night fell—and Kalora transformed.
The beach lit with torches. The pool deck glowed in shifting neon blues. A DJ set cracked open the warm air with bass that vibrated through sand, skin, bone.
141 walked into the party like lions entering a dream.
Soap became a gravitational force. Every bar, every corner, every dance circle—he was at the center of it, wearing three glowstick necklaces someone had just tossed around his neck. He learned people’s names instantly and forgot them ten minutes later. He flirted with bartenders, dancers, hotel staff, and a vacationing grandmother who kissed him on the forehead for being "a handsome young soldier."
Gaz fit the scene perfectly—shirt half-unbuttoned, laugh bright, swaying with drinks in hand. He joined a conga line. He danced with a group of strangers. Someone poured tequila directly into his mouth while a crowd cheered.
It was joy. Pure, unfiltered joy.
Even Ghost, stoic and edged in shadow, wasn’t immune.
He stayed near the borders of the chaos—but the party came to him. A woman asked to take a photo with him "because the mask is badass." Soap dragged him into a limbo line with disastrous results. Ghost ducked under the pole with flawless precision—then Soap lost his balance and brought the whole thing down.
Ghost didn’t smile, but his posture loosened in the way only someone who felt safe could manage.
Roach somehow claimed a chair no one remembered being empty, accepted a drink with two umbrellas, and silently passed one into Soap’s cup like a warning.
Mutt tried one violently blue cocktail, grimaced, and set it down with the solemn disgust of a man betrayed by chemistry.
Price found his sanctuary at a quieter rooftop bar overlooking the glowing ocean. He sat with a rum—much sweeter than he’d prefer—and let the music drift up from below. Occasionally, strangers asked him for life advice. He told one of them to invest in fishing gear. He told another that life was too short to drink bad whiskey, even as he drank exactly that.
He almost looked content.
At some point, they regrouped by the pool. Soap cannonballed in. Gaz followed. Ghost sat on the edge—and Soap splashed him so hard he nearly fell in. Price smoked a cigar and pretended he didn’t find it all hilarious.
Roach avoided the first splash with insulted precision, then got dragged in by Soap anyway. Mutt took one careful step back before Gaz caught his sleeve and pulled him in too.
For a few hours, the world didn’t own them. There were no missions. No hostiles. No shadows waiting to pounce.
Just a night. A perfect, fleeting night of unreal peace.
Price woke with a dry mouth and an unfamiliar, creeping silence pressing against his eardrums. He lay still for a moment, waiting for the usual morning sounds—children screaming in joy, staff setting out umbrellas, early swimmers splashing in the pool.
Nothing.
Not even the hum of the elevator.
He sat up fast.
The air smelled wrong—stale, metallic.
He stepped into the hallway. Soap’s door opened seconds later, hair sticking in ten directions and shirt half-off his shoulder. "Cap? Why’s it so quiet?" His voice was thick, but unease crept into the slur.
Gaz came out looking groggy but alert. "Anyone else hear shouting earlier? I thought it was drunk tourists."
Roach appeared from the stairwell end of the hall, barefoot and silent, dressed in last night’s wrinkled clothes. He only shook his head once.
Mutt stepped out after him with a black cloth mask pulled over the lower half of his face. "Lobby’s wrong."
Ghost appeared last—boots on, mask in place, posture like a coiled wire. He tilted his head. Listened. "There’s movement downstairs," he said softly. "Not normal."
141 descended the emergency staircase—down past smeared walls, spilled bags, overturned cleaning carts. The lights flickered. Something dripped from an upper step. None of them looked at it too long.
The bottom floor door creaked open.
And the lobby lay in ruin.
Marble smeared with blood. Bodies collapsed in unnatural heaps. Furniture overturned. Glass shattered.
In the courtyard beyond the sliding doors, figures moved—jerking, staggering, sprinting, snarling. Their skin greyed, limbs bent wrong, jaws slack with hunger.
Gaz whispered, "Oh my God..."
Soap swallowed hard. "They—they were people last night. They were—"
A scream from outside cut him off.
Not distant. Not muffled.
Close.
141 moved as one toward the sound.
Under the half-collapsed awning of the resort’s main plaza, a lone figure fought like hell for their life.
{{user}}.
Clothes torn from running, sweat streaking dust across their face. Their hands wrapped tight around a bent metal pipe reinforced with duct tape. A broken pool cue jutted from their belt, splintered and stained.
They were knee-deep in scattered suitcases—tearing them open, scavenging with frantic purpose: bottled water into pockets, a leather belt to secure a makeshift sheath, a cotton dress shirt to wrap around a bloody forearm.
A guttural snarl ripped behind them.
{{user}} spun, swung the pipe with both hands, and slammed it into an infected’s skull. The creature crumpled, but another sprinted from the shadows.
No hesitation. {{user}} grabbed a hard-shell suitcase, used it as a shield, absorbed the hit, then rammed the pipe into the infected’s throat. It fell choking, limbs spasming.
Soap whispered, "Holy— They’re actually fighting them."
Gaz gaped. "With... luggage?"
Roach’s gaze flicked over the pipe, the torn strap, the improvised belt sheath, then back to {{user}} with quiet approval.
Mutt’s shoulders eased a fraction. "Creative."
Ghost moved forward, silent, assessing every angle.
{{user}} didn’t see them yet. They were too busy ripping a strap off another suitcase and tying it around their hand to improve grip. Their breath came sharp. Their eyes darted in every direction.
Another infected limped toward them from the plaza. Then another. Then two more broke from behind a column, sprinting.
Price’s voice went low, steady, instinctive. "Ghost."
Ghost vanished from the group’s side and reappeared beside the survivor like a shadow dividing the light. One strike—clean, brutal—dropped the first infected immediately.
{{user}} jerked in shock, stumbling back as the creatures collapsed around them.
Soap stepped in next, raising his hands in a slow, non-threatening arc. Gaz circled, eyes scanning for more infected. Roach shifted to cover the broken lobby doors. Mutt moved toward a fallen chair, judging the weight of it without looking away from the plaza. Price approached last, calm as a storm front.
The survivor stared at them—wide-eyed, chest heaving, hands bleeding from gripping the pipe too tight.
They didn’t speak. They didn’t trust. They didn’t run.
They just stood there surrounded by half-looted suitcases and the bodies of things that were human mere hours ago.
Price met their eyes and nodded once.
"We’re not leaving you here."
141 had come to Kalora for a vacation.
But they’d found a survivor who refused to go quietly into hell.
And that was enough to change everything.
