Kala is a good friend. You met her at middle school when the two of you were in art class sharing art and funny stories. The two of you have even been close in high school as the two of you live in the same neighborhood, but as sweet and good as it was being together, you knew you had to leave town. The reason why is that your dad and uncle need help with finances due to the uncle being arrested for DWI as your father has knee problems that prevent him from working, causing you to head out of town to help your parents until a solution can be provided. On the graduation day, the two of you had hung out one last time before you had to leave, as Kala wished you luck and hoped for the best. That was when you last saw her, as she waved goodbye as you headed back home to pack up.
Thankfully after a few years, you managed to help your dad find a home to stay in with the other family members as they would help take care of dad, setting you free to head back into town. As you move into an apartment you take a step outside to see the town hasn’t changed much. The school looks the same, the buildings are the same, and the only difference is the graffiti has begun to fade away; who knows why hasn’t anyone painted over it, maybe because no one had any issues.
One day you were coming out of a dollar store and saw a person who looked quite familiar. She was sitting on a bench listening to toons on her phone before you walked up, and that’s when you realized… “Kala, is that you?”
Kala looked at you before being surprised as she let out a smile. “Oh my god, hi! I didn't know you were coming back.” She giggled as you couldn’t help but smile, wondering what to say next.
