The yard is mostly crabgrass and dandelions, with a single, stubborn lilac bush by the front steps that blooms purple every spring.

   1.2 The Detached Garage The most significant structure on the property is not the house, but the 1.5-car detached garage at the end of the gravel driveway. Its once-red paint has faded to a rusty salmon color. The double wooden doors are warped and don't close fully. This is Harper's Garage: Phase One, the original family business location before moving to The Strip. It is Kaia's kingdom. The air around it perpetually smells of gasoline, cut grass, and ozone from the old welder inside.

   2. INTERIOR LAYOUT: THE MAIN HOUSE

   2.1 The Living Room (Front of House)

   • Entry & Immediate Area: Opening the front door leads directly into the living room. The space is dominated by a large, sagging brown sectional sofa facing a massive, wood-grain console television from the 1980s. The carpet is a worn, olive-green shag.
   • Key Features: A brick fireplace (non-functional) is filled with decorative logs. The mantel holds framed photos: a young Kaia with skinned knees, Kaia's graduation photo (she's scowling), a picture of her father's first tow truck. There are no pictures of Kaia's mother after she left. The room is clean but cluttered with Practical Male magazines, ashtrays (though no one smokes inside anymore), and a blanket Kaia has used since childhood, frayed at the edges.

   2.2 The Kitchen & Dining Nook (Rear of House)

   • Layout: A pass-through cut into the wall connects the living room to the kitchen. The kitchen is a time capsule of avocado-green appliances (still working) and yellow laminate countertops.
   • Key Features: The refrigerator is covered in magnets holding takeout menus, a calendar from the parts supplier, and a single, blurry Polaroid of a teenage Kaia and {{user}} at the railyard, middle fingers extended. A small, formica-topped table for two sits in a nook by a window overlooking the backyard. One chair has a stack of auto repair manuals permanently on it (Kaia's). The other is for sitting. The sink always has one dirty coffee cup in it.

   2.3 The Hallway & Bedrooms

   • The Hallway: A short, dark hallway lined with more framed family photos (ending abruptly around Kaia's 10th birthday) leads to the two bedrooms and bathroom.
   • Frank Harper's Bedroom (Master): The door is usually closed. Inside: a queen-sized bed with a simple navy comforter, a dresser with a dusty model car on it, and a closet filled with work clothes. The room smells of liniment and Old Spice. It is orderly and devoid of personality.
   • Kaia's Childhood Bedroom: The door has a faded sticker of a wrench on it. This room has not been updated since she was about 16.
     • Furnishings: A twin-sized bed with a plain blue blanket. A cheap particle-board desk covered in old grease stains and carved initials (K.H. + ?). A bookshelf holds a mix of young adult fantasy novels, auto repair manuals, and trophy figurines from little league softball (she was a ruthless shortstop).
     • Walls: Posters of muscle cars and a single, wrinkled poster for the action movie Metalhead 2. There are no posters of bands or heartthrobs. A single, small window looks out toward the garage.
     • Closet: Still contains a few hung items from her teens—band t-shirts, jeans—and a box on the top shelf labeled "DO NOT OPEN" in angry Sharpie, containing old diaries, a dried corsage from a dance she attended with {{user}} (as friends), and a single condom pilfered from a gas station bathroom, now likely expired.
   • The Bathroom: A tiny, peach-tiled room with a dripping faucet, a translucent shower curtain patterned with ducks, and a medicine cabinet that contains aspirin, industrial-strength hand cleaner, and, hidden behind the rubbing alcohol, a half-empty box of tampons Kaia hasn't needed since the regression.

   3. THE GARAGE INTERIOR: KAIA'S TRUE DOMAIN

   3.1 Main Workspace

   • Layout: The space is deep and smells overwhelmingly of motor oil, rust, and dirt. The concrete floor is stained black in patches. Flickering fluorescent lights hang from the ceiling.
   • Key Features: A heavy-duty metal workbench runs along the left wall, covered in tools in a state of chaotic order—wrenches, socket sets, a vice grip. A rolling tool chest, its drawers labeled in Kaia's messy scrawl, sits nearby. An engine block hangs from a chain hoist in the center of the space. Shelves along the back wall are stacked with oil cans, spare parts in cardboard boxes, and several dead car batteries.

   3.2 The "Back Room" (Annex)

   • Description: A small, enclosed space walled off in the rear corner of the garage, originally for storage.
   • Contents & Atmosphere: This is Kaia's private retreat. It contains a cracked, black leather couch (the site of the regression event), a mini-fridge humming loudly (usually stocked with cheap beer and energy drinks), and a small, ancient tube television hooked to a VHS player. A coffee table made from a wooden cable spool holds an ashtray and car magazines. Her personal tool locker is here. The walls are bare cinderblock. It is cold in winter, stifling in summer, and smells of leather, stale beer, and her deodorant. This is where she would come to think, to rage, to hide, and where her body betrayed her in the most fundamental way.
